Question 7 of 10 in Basics

What government agency has regulatory authority over life insurance? How do I find the address and phone number for my state insurance department?

While there are some federal laws that affect life insurance, most regulation of insurance is at the state level. Your state probably has an insurance regulatory agency that is commonly referred to as the “State Department of Insurance” (fill-in the name of your particular state).

As far as the address and phone number, you can find this information by clicking here, or you can call the offices of your State Capitol or your Local State Representative.

Your insurance company may also be able to provide you with this information.
