Question 7 of 14 in Naming Beneficiaries |
Filing a claim |
 |
To file a claim on a life insurance policy, for which you are the beneficiary, you should contact a local office of the company, if it has one. Call and ask for instructions or go in person. If you visit the office, bring along the policy or other documents relating to the policy. Also bring the death certificate.
If there is no local office for the company, you could call the company’s home office and ask how to proceed.
If the deceased had policies from several companies, the representative of one of the companies will sometimes offer to submit the claims to the other companies’ as well. It is OK to let one agent handle it if you like, but make sure he gives you receipts for all the policies. |
