Question 2 of 9 in How Much Do I Need?

Who buys disability insurance?

In the 1950s, when disability insurance first became popular, it was primarily sold to doctors, lawyers, accountants and other professionals who often operated their own small practices and were entirely dependent on their ability to work in order to pay their business expenses and generate personal income. Gradually, many companies made disability insurance available to non-professionals. Today workers in a variety of occupations can qualify.
