I’m a smoker. Do disability policies charge smokers more than nonsmokers?


Yes. One of the factors insurance underwriters consider in determining your eligibility for disability insurance and setting an appropriate premium, is your risk of getting ill. Smoking is related to many illnesses which could cause disability and so will be a factor to be considered by most companies in setting your rates.
