Question 5 of 7 in Insurance Company |
How important are "ratings"? |
 |
Disability contracts can require the insurance company to make payments over many years, so you want some assurance that the company will still be able to honor those commitments when they come due. It is best to deal with insurance companies that are financially strong, but do not get too hung up on ratings. Most insurance companies are strong enough to continue operations from year to year. Only a small number become unable to honor their policy commitments -- and those will eventually be taken over and bailed out by other companies under the guarantee arrangements that all states employ to protect policyholders. |
