Question 35 of 42 in Overview

Do I need to buy insurance coverage when I rent a car?

This is a personal choice that the individual must make depending on his/her circumstances. Very often, there is no need to buy additional insurance from the car rental company because you may be covered already.

For instance, many credit and travel cards provide some auto coverage when you use the card for the car rental charge.

Your auto, health and homeowner’s (or renter’s) policies may also include provisions that will give you some liability and other coverage when using a rental car for vacation (not business).

Additionally, if you are renting the car while on company business, your employer may have an insurance plan.
