"The adjusters are not very bright. One adjuster was supposed to reimburse me for my rental fees and they changed the tax rate to a lower rate because they THOUGHT I lived in a county that had the lower tax rate because of the area code of my work number. They should pay me for whatever I paid. In addition, my residental address was in the same county as the place of business where I had paid for the rental. That is so nick picky. "WATER DAMAGE FROM WATER HEATER CLAIM DENIED BY MERCURY IN "BAD FAITH" BEWARE OF WHAT IS AN EXCLUSION FOR WATER DAMAGE IF MERCURY FEELS THE LEAK WAS OVER 7-DAYS. "After being in a hit and run accident that was not our fault a Mercury agent claimed our vehicle totaled. They refused to pay our claim sighting it was the other parties insurance was responsible. Luckily we had the other parties plate ID and we did all the investigative work and found that they had no insurance. Mercury then said, OH! that's different. "The people in the claims dept lied constantly about the vehicle which was stolen. First they didn't know where it was until I told them. I live in LA, the vehicle was recoved in Phoenix. The Phoenix Police department called me to tell me where it was.
I told Mercury. They advised that their "representative" in Phoenix would look into it.
Two weeks later I called they said it was taken to their "place". I asked where that was. I declined to tell me.
I went to Phoenix and found they had taken it from the original tow yard to a place where the Large sign in front of it said

I called them from that place and again asked where the vehicle was. They said their representative hadn't looked at it yet.
Then they changed their minds and said the
vehicle was "total".
I rented a trailer for the car I had driven
to Phoenix, towed it back to LA, with the
vehicle they said was totaled. Had the
vehicle inspected by a shop they recommended.
This shop said the estimate for repair was over $4000 and since this was more than halld the
value of the vehicle, it was a "total"
I have no idea where that "rule" came from.
I did not total the vehicle. Had it repaired at a different shop. Sent Mercury the bill,
including the charge for Hotel Bills in
Phoenix, the bill for the trailer rental
and Gas to go to Phoenix and back. It took
a lot of phones call to get this done.
The vehicle is in prime condidtion now as it was before it was stolen.
Obviously my Experience with Mercury was a real I opener. Especially after I watch TV
commercials in which Mercury advertise the "lowest rates".

"A woman(because she was no lady) backed into my bumper on the rear passenger side in a parking lot. But because it was done at a very slow speed, the paint only cracked on the the tail end of my car. Mercury deemed the accident 50/50 after a scant inspection by a body shop they recommended. This person didn't even bother to take pictures (there were faint marks made by the other driver's rubberized bumper) and said "oh that's okay, we don't need pictures, Mercury will get all the information they need from me". The other driver's insurance at least took the time to really inspect the damage, bumper scuffs and take pictures. But of course they claimed it wasn't their customer's fault.
There were cameras in the parking lot, but the adjuster told me that since it was such small claim they would not subpoena the video coverage. In other words it was too much trouble for them to be bothered by something so insignificant. The cost to repair the bumper was the almost the same as my deductible ($500), so yes I would definitely make a claim and have my premiums rocket sky high. Not to mention that it was tough to get a hold of my adjuster. I spoke to a machine more often than I spoke to a real live person. Sure, I'm as happy as a clam. I've been with them for over 4 years and they sure treat their customers well. RIGHT!! I WILL NEVER INSURE WITH MERCURY EVER AGAIN!! AND I WILL TELL ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO NEVER INSURE WITH THEM! THANKS MERCURY...FOR THE DIDDLY SQUAT YOU DID FOR ME, AFTER ALL THE PREMIUMS I PAID ALL THESE YEARS." 2007-08-07 03:43:30 EST
"They did NOT fulfill their mandate in holding me harmless as if the rear end accident had never occurred. The body shop recommended by them was atrocious. Had my car for over three months, tried to dicker around with "used parts" and the repair I would rate 2 out of 5.

"HAD ONE CLAIM WITH OUR AUTO POLICY WHICH I THOUGHT WAS FAIR A FAIR SETTEMENT. RECENTLY HAD A SMALL CLAIM ON MY HOMEOWNERS, $1500, AND THEY REFUSED CLAIM ON A BASIS OF A LEGAL DEFINITION OF A WORD USED IN OUR STATEMENT. "We were rear ended by an illegal alien, unlicensed & drunk. I suffered a herniated disk, my wife lost her teeth went into shock, my son suffers from epileptic seizures. Claim was made against our unisured motorist coverage almost two years ago and still no settlement. Had to hire an attorney to step in because Mercury fought us every step of the way. I am unable to work and on disability, my credit is ruined because Mercury has not yet paid the medical claims. I need either epidural injections or surgery and Mercury refuses to even advance the costs to undergo the procedures. We were with this company for almost 12 years and they have treated us like dirt. We highly recommend that anyone thinking about obtaining auto insurance through Mercury take the time to think again. "Mercury was okay until they were put to the test of performing on an auto accident claim.

"We have had auto and homeowner policies for many years with Mercury. We have had a few auto claims over the years: two or three "not at fault" and one "at fault". All claims were handled quickly, with problem. Surprisingly, the rates did not experience an increase after the claims.
We recently bought a new house, and took out a fire policy on the old one, which is now a rental. No problems.
Unfortunately, Mercury cancelled our new HO policy on our new house shortly after we moved in without explanation. Have not had a HO claim ever, but was dropped. We had to call several times to get answers as to why. The reason? We bought a bank owned house that needed some repairs (which have been done or will be done soon). Had Mercury contacted us, I'm sure we could have rectified the issue. Now they will lose all of our business. " 2008-09-02 17:49:00 EST

"New car stolen and recovered: they tried to replace the stolen interior parts (seats) with used parts from a junk yard. They dragged out the process and finally agreed to total the car and gave me less then fair value. "I paid for my insurance in full for six months and 4 months later Mercury decides to send me a bill dated 3 months prior stating that I owed them more money. They claimed I owed them more money because my drivers license expired in 2006, which never happened, and that made me not qualify for a good driver discount anymore. "Filed a claim to have a cracked windshield replaced. The company that they sent to fix it performed faulty workmanship. Now they want me to file a new claim stating that my car was vandalized, or they won't resolve the problem. Also, the original company they sent is no longer in business. "We've had our auto insurance with Mercury for over 13 years. During this time both myself and my husband have been involved in auto accidents. Mercury has ALWAYS been there for us. "I have had Mercury insurance for about 8 years now and I haven't really had any issues with them. The only problems I ran into where with the "recommended" body shop I used once. "I have had auto insurance with Mercury for over 10 years. I had one incident where I was actually at fault and they took care of everything very timely. Also, even though I was at fault my insurance premiums did not go up. The only problem I am having now is my husband passed and I only have one car on the policy. My premium when up almost $300 a year without the other car. So I am paying as much for one car that we were paying for two. I am thinking of switching to another company that will save me over $200 a year and save one half on my renters policy. "Had 2 accidents with my car, first one was at fault, the other one was not. Took a while for the adjustor to arrive at the repair shop for the first accident, so it delayed the repair. Anyway, I experienced no other hassles on my claim for that first accident. For the second accident, I was not at fault but went ahead and had my car repaired the same day. I received the reimbursement for the amount that I paid within a week without any problems. They are also very quick in applying the credits to my account for any changes in coverage/policies.
