"In California, and possibly elsewhere, AIG has implemented a "Permissive User" drop-down clause which effectively lowers your policy limits to the state minimums when a person other than yourself or a family member drives the car and is involved in an auto accident. How the claim is paid is apparently up to the AIG adjustor. Customer Service representatitives describe this clause in manner that seems to contradict the written policy declaration page. Whether you can allow a licensed friend or associate to drive your car with you in it (or on a errand for you) --and be fully covered -- is unclear.

"I received a letter in Oct of 2005 stating my policy will lapse on Dec 1 2005 unless i send $141.62. I sent a check for said amount and it was deposited by them before the deadline. The company, American General, did not give me any information as to when another payment would be due or any other pertinate information concerning my policy.
I sent an inquiry on AIG web site. Answer came ba ck that policy has lapsed and i could be reinstated if i srnd them $549.91 with no information asto what period this would cover. They will not accept a reply back unless i fill out another form. I will call their toll free number. They should have sent me a notice without me contacting them!

"I went through a terrible claims process. The adjustor was hard to get a hold of. They rarely called back. They took forever authorizing repairs to my car.
I am insured by them, and my particular accident was the other driver's fault, yet I felt like a criminal when talking to them. The other driver's insurance was much more pleasant to deal with." 2007-07-03 18:08:41 EST

"AIG provided excellent service in terms of renewal notices, receiving and crediting payments, and mailing of my auto insurance
documents each year. I was very satisfied with AIG until I filed a claim relating to
an auto accident in January of 2007.
My car was stopped in the left lane, waiting
to turn left into a side street, when it was
rear-ended by a big truck. The truck driver and his insurance company admitted fault and
the police officer who appeared at the scene
within minutes issued a traffic violation to
the truck driver for causing the accident.
Fault causation has never been in any doubt.
In handling my claim AIG has treated me like an enemy, and not a valued client. It has been 8 months since the claim was filed and
AIG still has not completed the processing of my claim. (Still waiting to be reimbursed for doctor-prescribed pain medications and
my collision deductable of $200.) Can anyone
blame me for cancelling my AIG auto policy?

"I felt AIG was not reducing my collision coverage cost to compensate for the reducing value resulting from the vehicles age. I decided to check other companies and found a better policy at 45% less with Owners Insurance Company, who focus on drivers over the age of 55. "The claim process has been very poor. The adjuster would not return calls or emails. the value of our car was not adequate even after I provided them with sell prices on similar models on locale lots. The claim would still be open if I would not have been making the calls and email. I ended up insisting upon talking to a manager just to settle the claim. "The claim Reperentatives are not polite, they are ironic when they spek to you even at the very first time.
They do not provide any information when you are the affected party by their insured.
No costumer service whatsoever, IF any of them anwers a call, they are very irritating.

"I originally signed up for automatic payments. They botched it because they data entered the wrong account. Then they sent me a bill for triple the amount due. I explained that it was their error. They then said that they would only take the payment that was past due, $214.00 and that 214.00 was again due by the end of the month. I received another bill for triple the amount due. They said that the individual never took out the $214.00 paymemt. I told them that I did not have $694.00. They investigated it and said that they would take me off direct payment and have me pay directly. I called in a payment of $214.00 a few days later as was agreed. I was told that I was no longer on direct payment. I just checked my checking account. THEY TOOK OUT $692.04!!! Due to this, I can't pay my mortgage. I have never worked with a more incompetant insurance company in my life!!!! I will be cancelling my coverage first thing on Monday morning!!!

"I was in an accident. I slid on ice and totaled an my SUV. I was given an offer way below the vehicles value. I then tried to negociate with my adjuster. I was told to prove my vehicles worth by obtaining individuals selling the same vehicle with the same amount of miles in my area. Well, that is impossible when I have no transportastion and there is only one listing (Eddie Bauer Expedition 1999 150,000 mi) that I could find on the internet. She said I needed way more than that. "After 5 months going to doctors, labs and hospitals I found out that they were not paying anything, and never contacted me to say anything. I found out that they were not paying anything because I started getting bills from labs, and I will probably receive bills from everywhere from now on. All they asked me in my application was my name, passport number and address, that's all. Now, after 5 months, they want more information about pre-existing conditions. Pregnancy is not pre-existing condition (they know that better than me) and they cover pregnancy, it's writting in my contract. Now it's more difficult to find another insurance that will take me. "I have only filed small claims, using the free AAA-like feature AIG calls Security Advantage, and every time they have performed above and beyond my expectations. I have never had a rude employee, and I have never had any problems, even though I once let the policy lapse. "The time it took for AIG to contact me(I had to call my adjuster after 1 week to make contact), finally total my vehicle(it took 2 weeks), and pay off the loan to the bank(about 1 month) ,was pathetic! My questions were never answered the way I proposed them. I never got the chance to buy back my truck (with a non drivable title)as I requested. No rental.No reimbursement for personnel property loss in the accident. NO CONTACT! I will surely tell the people I know, all about how AIG follows up and helps their insured patrons. "Aig beat Statefarm hands down on both my home and auto. My Statefarm homeowners ins has risen over $300 every since New Orleans went under water. They say thats not why it went up yet I have never had a claim in over 20 years so I went with AIG and there car ins is just as good and $20 cheaper per 6mos. And I just joined them, so give AIG a look like I did. Also AIG, I feel can save by not having all this brick and mortor stores and agents to pay, so I end up paying for ins. instead of a store and a 3pc suit, also never ever go with Allstate, them chuckleheads had me insured for 25,000/50,000 on my auto ins. until I noticed it then I fired them. "My car needed a new hood, because of a crease in it, the adjuster said no the body shop working with me stated that he would just rather not do business with aig because they do not treat thier customers right,I had to settle for cosmetic fixers just so I could have my car back.they just punched the dent out but is very noticable, aig sucks!!!!" 2008-04-07 22:08:14 EST
"I went to a local agent in Florida, they sold me AIG auto insurance, the cost with no accidents, and 2 teenage drivers $1100 a month. This agent billed my credit card monthly and everything was fine the first 6-8 months. But then I started getting letters that my payments were behind. I thought maybe the card had not processed, or something so I called my local agent, and she told me they would look into it. Well after about 2 weeks and before it cancelled, I called the company direct (LOL yeah a nightmare too) and made the double payment on my card. Finally, the agent said that the payments were posted, and it should have been ok, but calling AIG direct, I found out it wasn't. Well the agent closed their office,and I had charges to my card but AIG didn't have them posted. I finally left AIG, and found a new company. It seems that my agent was stealing my money, and AIG wasn't getting it. Now my problem... AIG should have credited me these payments, and went after THEIR AGENT. "Absolutely the worst companhy I have ever had the displeasure to work with. I even needed some work done and I called AIG for their list of recommended places to use. When I called them, they were very nice until they heard I had AIG insurance. They then told me they wouldn't do the work. I told them that I was referred to them by AIG and they said that they can't ever get reimbursement from AIG and so they won't do work for them anymore!
When I had a claim, I had to call relentlessly in order to get my money from them. Everytime I called and asked for the person I spoke to before, they would tell met that the person no longer worked there.

"Cancel my account with them because of price increased in my policy, they still pulled money out of my account via auto payment, to make all this worse 15 days after cancellation they send me a bill for $35.00, when i call my agent they explained to me that i was getting charge because that was money that i was supposed to paid due to a change in my insurance premium which i had cancelled anyway, so basically i was getting charge for canceling the policy and that was money that they were supposed to make if i had not cancelled my account.

"They did not mail out my premium notice in November or February. Then I got a letter stating I was past due on my Nov. payment and needed to make up about $600 and they were raising my premium. A few days later I got my premium that was due in February, but they hadn't mailed it until April. I got caught up.
Now they've done it again. I did not get my April bill and now another letter stating I have to send them over $600 by Sept10 and my premium is going up again.
We never had a problem in 20 years, but now we are older and might at sometime in the near future collect. I feel they are creating a situation so we will become so aggravted with them we would cancel the policy. "i was injured at work. this is the workman's comp co. we have injury happened on 2/25/07. not received a dime yet. when told to have surgery to repair injury, was assured by attorney for other side that as soon as i had surgery that a check would be issued. surgery on 3/13/08. when told then that surgical report needed before claim could start to be paid, report sent and verified received by end of april. not a payment received yet. this is not an honorable company. i am very close to losing my home. i cannot at present afford health care. icannot pay for very much needed heart medication. this is not a nice company!!" 2008-07-27 12:48:07 EST

"I HATE this company!! They sold me a name non-owner policy, which I just found out I'm not even allowed to have!! You can't have regular access to a vehicle and they KNEW that my boyfriend had 3 vehicles at our address. If I would've gotten into an accident, the policy wouldn't have been valid. "AIG/Homesite are a large insurance company that focuses on collection of premiums and denial of claims. Their claims website was horrible and their response times unacceptable. When our home was damaged by a 50 year snow storm, AIG/Homesite hired so called experts to basically conclude that my roof was not built to withstand the storm therefore workmanship was the problem. "I just got word that AIG will not renew my policy because of an At Fault Accident 3 years ago - at which time no damage was done to my vehicle and very little was done to the other vehicle. 3 years ago - No accident's since and no late payments ever.
