"I HAD A CAR ACCIDENT WHERE BOTH PARTIES WHERE FOUND AT FAULT AND AMICA SAID I HAD FULL COVERAGE BUT THEY ARE A BUNCH OF LIERS COZ THEY MADE ME PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR 20% OF THE DAMAGES ON TOP OF MY DEDUCTIBLE I WILL NEVER RENEW MY POLICY WITH THEM THEY ARE GARBAGE AND THEIR REPS ARE RUDE " 2007-11-20 15:43:13 EST
"Extremely prompt claim settlement. Agents have been great customer advocates --- asked questions to be sure I was getting full coverage for my claim." 2007-04-12 13:38:22 EST
"The agents are very helpfull and its being a pleasure to be a Amica customer.I am very satisfied with the preminum which they have offered me for my car insurance." 2007-05-31 14:23:13 EST
"Amica is responsive, and fair. The premiums may not be the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. I like the fact that when they say they will follow up, they do so without having me calling back to prompt them. I highly recommend them to anyone." 2007-07-05 19:14:04 EST
"Amica has been a great insurer. I have had no problems with them, whatsoever and appreciate the professional handling of my inquiries and my claims. I am just sorry that my son cannot remain on their policies due to his driving record (before even 18)..but that is understandable." 2007-08-08 02:15:26 EST
"A deer ran into the car. Premiums went up." 2007-08-08 12:49:13 EST
"My only gripe is that Amica takes its jolly good time in processing premium payments. Even when my bank does an overnight payment it takes Amica four days to credit my account. Don't they know we are in the 21st century?" 2007-08-15 11:26:09 EST
"i receivied more help from the other's driver's insurance company, The one i filed the claim againest" 2007-08-28 17:08:22 EST
"Amica is somewhat difficult to deal with- can't understand why they're at the top of the JD Power ratings..they ask seemingly a thousand questions when starting coverage, price is competitive, but not lowest, & they want to over-insure houses (over-value the structure, undervalue the lot)..I'm looking elsewhere now..though much they're higher on my list than allstate, liberty mutual or farmers." 2007-09-10 13:43:07 EST
"Absolutely second to none customer service. One rep said, "We do not want to be the biggest, just the best" and that, they are! " 2007-09-16 19:14:16 EST
"They increased my rate once i filed a claim. Also they increased the rate very much because Katrina and I live in the North." 2007-09-26 15:59:37 EST
"POINT BLANK. BEST INSURANCE COMPANY THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. GREAT RATES. COULD NOT ASK FOR MORE." 2007-09-28 19:56:26 EST
"After being told that i would not be charged a premium surcharge for filing a claim on my home owners insurance, AMICA charged me anyway. I was told the laws had changed in MA and even though my claim was several years ago, they can and did charge me retroactively, even though they told me they wouldn't at the time of the claim (I asked specifically about this). The surcharge will cost me thousands of $ more than the actual claim paid out." 2007-10-05 16:38:17 EST
"I have used Amica for over 30 years and have been extremely satisfied. They have always been prompt and fair." 2007-10-18 17:43:09 EST
"I've had my auto and homeowners with Amica for 10 plus years. I always get a friendly, knowledgeable person on the phone who seems genuinely interested in helping me (both with filing a claim and making a change to my policy). When talking with friends, they always seem to have some horror story on their insurance company. I never have anything but great things to say about Amica. " 2007-10-14 22:49:56 EST
"Have insured with AMICA for over 25 years, have found them unfailingly helpful in (mercifully rare) instances when I have had to file claims, pleasant to deal with when I have had questions, efficient when I needed to transfer coverage from NC to MA and to change some types of policies to reflect changing needs/situation. " 2007-12-03 12:56:36 EST
"My agent left the company. I called three weeks after she left and was told she was out or not available. Today I pushed the issue and insisted they at least connect me to her voice mail. Then they told me she was no longer there. I asked when they were going to tell me and they acted like it didn't matter then they transfered me to a voice mail where a male voice aske me to leave a message but he didn't say who he was. I left my name and my concern. Not how I would do businees. " 2007-12-17 18:37:05 EST
"I filed a claim with Amica. My wife and I had hit a deer. They realized that we were out in the middle of nowhere and were basically "stranded". Chain of events: Hit deer on Monday morning - adjuster out to body shop on Monday evening - repairs authorized on Tuesday. Keep in mind, this was in the middle of Montana - over one hundred miles to the closest major city. They worked fast and their customer service was top notch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!" 2007-12-27 19:27:43 EST
"I recently suffered two spinal injuries in an auto accident where I needed to have two separate spinal surgeries with titanium plates implanted. I have nerve damage in my left leg leaving me permanently disabled. I put an under-insured claim in with Amica, my own insurance company. They hired a "high-priced" insurance attorney because I had a million dollar insurance coverage. Due to my large insurance coverage, my own insurance company, Amica, fought me tooth and nail until they finally won the claim. I ended up only receiving 5% of my total coverage for all of my pain, suffering, surgeries, and permanent disabilities. They also refused to pay my lost wages which were included in my insurance claim. I have been paying my premiums all along but when it comes to collecting from Amica, they will fight it until their own client loses his suit. I am very dissatisfied with Amica as they did not even stand by their own client trying to settle the case fairly. If I could do things over again, I would NEVER have chosen Amica as MY insurance company. They collected and cashed all of my premium checks but refused to offer me any compensation when it came to settling my legitimate claim. I hope that everyone who reads this will think twice before signing up with Amica. I only wish that someone else warned me that I am not in "good hands with Amica." " 2007-12-28 19:53:51 EST
"I got into an accident and my car was claimed a total loss. It's been a month and my claim has not been settled. I've called my claims adjuster and she ignores my calls and has left me hanging. It's frustating to have recieved such poor customer service." 2008-01-06 17:30:47 EST
"Upon selling me a policy, my sales rep moved away and nobody contacted me to let me know. I only found out six months later when I called the 800 number with a policy question. Also, one month the check for my payment was not received. Nobody called me; Amica simply cancelled all my policies and sent me ONE letter in the mail to let me know (I was reinstated, but drove without insurance for several weeks). Amica's coverage for personal property, such as jewelry, is very low ($1500, and this is their "premium" policy). Prepare to pay through the nose to have everything you own scheduled separately...what is the point of this insurance, since their exclusions include so many items average people are likely to own (cameras, artwork, jewelry)?" 2008-01-15 16:48:04 EST
"Have been an auto insurance most of the last 20 years since the rates have been on the lower end of the scale (RI, CT, and CA). I've relied on them less for home insurance." 2008-01-21 21:41:07 EST
"Straight forward. No hassles. Very fair. Very fast response to claims. 40 years with AMICA. Sons also over 20 years and have also had extremely good results on claims such as hurricane ($30,000), tornado ($70,000) and water leak damage of $80,000 plus two auto accidents over last 20 years." 2008-02-18 00:41:34 EST
"Will consider Amica for a whole Life Insurance Policy." 2008-02-20 11:09:06 EST
"This company is the cream of the crop!!!
I feel very confident that they would be there for me in the event of a claim." 2008-03-13 12:29:37 EST
"As a trial laywer, I sue insurance companies for bad faith as a major part of my law practice. I have been with Amica for over twenty-five years. If all insurance companies ran like Amica, I'd have to sell my plane." 2008-03-18 11:59:40 EST
"We never had a claim, only paid the premium and our rates went up 41% from 2007 to 2008." 2008-04-02 13:06:16 EST
"we didnt know what to do, but with the friendly claims people,we made it thur. we will always stay with amica." 2008-04-11 16:31:03 EST
"you get what you pay for!!" 2008-04-13 11:00:10 EST
"We had hail damage to our roof (but no leaks) a few years ago. We didn't notice the damage, but our carpenter did several months after the event. We notified AMICA, they sent out a claims agent right away, and promptly sent us a check to cover the repair. The check amount was actually more than the repair cost, but when I contacted AMICA to inform them of this, I was told that it didn't matter, and we pocketed the difference. A great company. I've compared other policies, and AMICA has consistently provided us a very good rate. When I've received lower quotes, they've been from companies with poor customer satisfaction, according to this site." 2008-04-15 21:20:02 EST
"I've been told that if I buy a trampoline for my kids, Amica will cancel or not renew my policy. That seems unreasonable to me, and I don't like saying no to my kids, especially when the trampoline will be in use for only a few years. Isn't home owners insurance there to back up our lives, not control them?" 2008-04-15 21:26:00 EST
"Amica is for sure one of the more expensive companies out there. I have only had to use them once in 30 years and there was no issue. No rate increase. They seem to be pleasant over the phone as well.
I wish they insured motorcycles and boats but they usually tell you to go to Progressive." 2008-04-16 14:15:53 EST
"I started the policy in 2000. At that time, I was under the age of 25 and my premiums were very high despite my excellent driving record. Amica gave me the lowest price for my age and so they earned my business. Nearly ten years later, I am still with them. I've had one claim due to vandalism while visiting friends out of town. It was handled exceptionally quickly and repairs were done by the best, not the cheapest. Amica is tops in my book! I only wish they offered health insurance..." 2008-04-18 10:39:53 EST
"The inspectors take 7-10 days to appear. That is ridiculous. Then the claim is grossly underestimated. We have been without a vehicle for up to 5 weeks. There is contention each step of the way. We have been hit while parked, no moving accidents, no one hurt. I can only imagine what a claim for personal injury would be like with Amica. " 2008-04-21 16:57:30 EST
"My car was totalled. I had to fight with amica for them to give me the fair market value for my car. It took 35 days to settle. in the end, they wanted 'proof' that my car was worth mor than they offered. I sent 11 pages of auto ads to prove to them that they were low balling the figure. In the end, they came up $1500. Also, because it took so long to settle, the car rental coverage ran out.I asked Amica to call Farmers and have farmers pay for the extra week. Laura at Amica told me that that was my problem and I would have to contact Farmers. Isn't this WHAT I PAY AMICA TO DO???? 35 days of headache.35 days of TRYING to find a replacement car for the pittance that they originally offered me. I really had to fight for a fair settlement. considering all the money I have paid over the last 15 years, with no prior claims, I would have thought Amica would have been a bit more ..ethical. There were several other custoer service issues too, but that's all in the 35 days worht of documentation that is filed away. keep looking, bypass Amica." 2008-04-23 23:25:43 EST
"In areas of the country where Amica has a "presence", they are an outstanding value for homeowners because they give rebates and will provide 100% replacement cost. We didn't have any damage, but my wife had her purse with electronics, jewelry, etc. stolen on public transportation which was covered under our homeowners policy. The claim was not outrageously expensive and of course they had to ask a lot of questions & surcharge our policy a little afterwards, but they were very understanding and helpful during the whole process. On the other hand, we own a vacation house about 150 miles away that is a mile from any kind of water and not in a flood plain, but because of the paranoia in the insurance industry after Katrina, they charged us as if the property was on the waterfront. After the first year, we switched insurance on that property to another company more familiar with the area & they charged us approximately 60% less for the same coverage. So, although I think Amica is an extremely good company with very good customer service, if their underwriters are not familiar with the area your property is in, you will pay through the nose, so you really should shop around. But if their rate is competitive, go with them as they are honest and responsive.

"Excellent service. Reasonable rates." 2008-05-09 20:44:51 EST
"Seems expensive - especially car insurance for teenaged drivers." 2008-06-02 16:13:16 EST
"What a great company.I have no problems. They have really great rates and they let you make 10 monthly payments for your policies." 2008-06-06 08:24:39 EST
"We've been with AMICA for over twenty years and have found their service to be exceptional. However, their premiums have increased over the years to the point where other alternatives look much better.
Hate to leave them, but Liberty Mutual, here we come..." 2008-06-12 09:33:51 EST
"your on line payment system is horrible. You cannot access it. This can cause pmts to be late. " 2008-06-13 18:43:08 EST
"We are the subject of an open claim, which at present is entering it's seventh month.
Mostly, the local office is not helpful in solving problems and offering information and assistance.
It's riddled with stupidity and corruption too.
1. The Branch Manager, serving as our Adjustor, directly ordered a Vendor to sand a pre-finished floor that resulted in it's receiving a seven inch by five inch gash down to the plywood. The Vendor had 25 years of experience, and KNEW that our floor would be damaged...his defense was that he was "ordered to" sand the floor to repair it. This information was revealed by a local office employee, IN FRONT OF WITNESSES !
2. The first adjustor or record was a trainee, who in the course of their work, falsified documentary photographic evidence of our initial claim.
This same adjustor had NO evidence of our Claim, at all, as a part of our claim file !
3. The same branch manager, above, admitted to me that a Vendor did work on his mother's home. Alone this is innocent, but when the same Vendor destroyed our kitchen floor, it takes on sinister tones...at least to me, when the office staff is hypnotized by the Vendor, into taking their side in the resulting dispute.
4. During a time when we lost use of our kitchen and basement where our clothing washer/dryer was, the adjustor didnt care to tell us that we were eligible for Loss of Use coverage, to cover meals and cleaning costs. We had to go to the home office to find that out, and the home office emailed the adjustor to tell us.
YES, overall they have a good policy but our local office is a NIGHTMARE, full of, seemingly, malicious non-helpful people.
JD Powers would Croak if they heard the details of our "experience".

"Whenever there has been a need to file a claim with this company they have been so easy to deal with. They never hassle you or make it difficlut to collect a payment. We have been extremely satisfied. One of the best companies to be insured with. I live in Florida and THEY CALL ME after a hurricane to see if we are alright and if we have any damage!!! It's UNBELIEVEABLE.Highly recommend" 2008-06-23 10:48:10 EST
"I made a big mistake staying with military-affiliated insurance for homeowners. AMICA is far superior...the cost is greater, but the price is worth it. " 2008-06-23 11:20:40 EST
"Amica violated The Law by not telling me how much they were charging extra as a premium
for a claim with another company. They were cited by The Colorado Insurance Commissioner
for not revealing their $ amounts. When they did they were way over what they originally
quoted to me. I will see these people in court.
They cannot be trusted as a Company. Their ethic is take all we can get without a word!" 2008-07-14 01:51:37 EST
"Changed recently from renters to home owner and they were very easy to deal with appreciated the fact that I had renters with them for several years and no claims; gave me a very competitive quote. Since I have never had a claim I cannot comment on that aspect, which really is key." 2008-07-14 12:21:41 EST
"I've insured both home and autos with AMICA for 40+ years. I've had to file claims on both policies. During this entire time, they have been fast to respond, processed claims extremely fairly, as inexpensive as one can find for excellent service, and very friendly and helpful. They are one of the best companies I've ever encountered." 2008-07-23 11:41:51 EST
"Amica is great!! I've had two claims since I've been with them. One was my fault, the other was not, but the other driver was not insured. Both claims were handled quickly. No problems what so ever with either one." 2008-08-12 14:46:11 EST
"They refused to process my claim after giving me the wrong information regarding my policy. The told me had collision when I didn't have it. On other occasions, they didn't return numerous calls to them." 2008-07-31 15:10:38 EST
"I do not find that they follow up in a timely manner. I have called and the average time for me to have my call returned is one to two weeks. The local agent is not very customer oriented and the impression that I get is that she could care less wheather I am a customer or not. Would not recomend and likely to change." 2008-08-03 13:43:15 EST
"Cheap isnt always the best. I switched to amica because of their "good" rates and they were highly reccomended.
I was hit by an under insured motorist in early july! It was well over a month before my car was repaired, which is fine, considering the damage. But when amica agrees to send payment within 24 hours of completion and doesn't.. then who's the liar? (read the pamplet it clearly states it)
When you call the claims office to find out whats going on, you are sent in the black hole of voice mail. i left several messeges for the person i was to be speaking with and never once recieved a phone call back. finally talked with some random person who couldnt tell me anything because that's not their department... i had been given the run around for 5 weeks and nothing had been settled yet.--- and my car was REPAIRED!!!
If Customer satisfaction is what got them the highest ranking with J D Powers, what a croc.
" 2008-08-19 11:18:01 EST
"Excellent Company. Fair and Fast" 2008-08-11 17:25:35 EST
"Amica is very thorough in assuring that you have the correct coverage. I've always found them to be informative, not just advocates of more products.
It's easy to reach them on the phone.
Web interactivity is good too. I don't have to deal with paper, but once a year." 2008-08-22 10:53:03 EST
"Always been very Satisfied.
" 2008-09-02 16:03:13 EST
"I have been with Amica for 12 years. They always were the best. They have changed tremendously in the past 2 years, for the worse! I will not stay with them." 2008-09-06 16:10:12 EST
"As a LONG_TIME customer of Amica, I have seen the best and more recently the worst of them. Overall, we have had great customer service and on the few rare occasions when we had a claim, they were more than fair and very prompt in settling the claim. Recently, their desire to grow has led to more impersonal service and big increases in rates even though we have had no claims in over 15 years. I NEVER would have thought of shopping our coverage until this year when my exchange of letters with senior management confirmed (for me) they are no longer the company I have loved for over 30 years. They state they have to get bigger to be competitive but in the process are at high risk of destroying what made them great - careful underwriting and great client service. I will be very sad to leave but I am resigned to the fact that they are well on the way to becoming just another big insurance company. " 2008-09-22 22:39:27 EST
"they work for the customer!!" 2008-09-25 15:22:31 EST
"Two auto claims- one a woman ran a red light and hit the side of our car, and the second a deer hit us head on. Both times- in one year- the claims were handled exceedingly well and very promptly; nice people too." 2008-09-26 16:42:55 EST
"i have always had great service with amica." 2008-09-27 12:54:25 EST
"Both claims - one home, one auto and both relatively minor - were settled in no time at all and covered more or less the full cost of my loss." 2008-10-21 13:43:15 EST
"Amica has a wonderful rating mainly because they only sell to 'O" risk drivers meaning that if you have moving violations on your driving record they will not risk taking you on as a customers. This is smart business however it really makes the truth on their rating suspect. For the perfect driver...Amica is your company...however know that they will drop you the second you become a normal driver. " 2008-10-29 17:05:40 EST
"We've had two claims since we've being using Amica. One was an auto claim that was handled fairly and efficiently.
The second involved Hurricane Ike and while it was diffficult to get an adjuster because of the large volume of claims so far we are very satisfied." 2008-11-08 18:50:46 EST
"My experience with claims service involving two accidents has been very satisfactory. Their follow-up has been exemplary. From my experience, I can recommend them as a customer oriented insurer." 2008-11-22 10:00:39 EST
"Best to select a dividend policy." 2008-11-24 15:38:05 EST
"Well I have been with this company for a long time - over 10 years. I had 2 car accidents in that time - one I was not at fault and AMICA did very little to get me the value of my car that was totaled. The second time I got repairs to my vehicle. My main dissatisfaction comes when I tried to bundle my car and home insurance. I spent 3 weeks! trying to get AMICA to confirm and in the end they said they dont insure duplexes - now I am screwed with my closing date - definately going to drop my car insurance by them and make sure everyone knows they are slow and don't really care about their customers" 2008-11-26 14:46:46 EST
"My wife and I have had auto insurance with AMICA for over 15 years, hence, tons of money paid. When cars were new and had collision insurance AMICA paid, however for minor accidents where the car is not totaled($6,000 or less)AMICA pays the bill but then surcharges you an exorbitant amount for a long time. They basically recoup every penny they paid you through surcharges so you are basically paying for the damage yourself. What is the point of carrying auto insurance if you basically pay the bill yourself anyway?!!!" 2008-12-06 09:23:47 EST
"Beware....I am furious with AMICA insurance company. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone!! We have been a customer of theirs for over 15 years (home owners insurance). We have NEVER filed a claim..NEVER!! Last year my policy went up 33.00 a yr. I accepted that. I wrote it off to inflation. This year it went up 234.00 that's unacceptable!!" 2008-11-28 19:26:49 EST
"They were not very helpful in filing or resolving my claim. I ended up calling the other company myself and resolved the issues." 2008-12-03 15:24:03 EST
"My windshield cracked earlier this year and we used one of their contract windshield replacement shops to keep overall costs down. Recently we found out that the replacement windshield leaked and caused some damage. The rep at Amica 'owned' the problem and ensured that a new windshield was installed and the damage to our fan motor, etc. was taken care of. Absolutely top notch people!!! I've been with them over 20 years and would never leave." 2009-01-01 20:22:24 EST
"Nice people " 2009-02-02 13:25:17 EST
"Was hit from behind by another driver. Called Amica and was given two choices, file a claim through the other person's insurance (since it was their fault) or pay the deductible and file a claim through Amica and they would, in-turn, file a claim for reimbursement from the other insurance company. I chose #2. This happened in September and here we are in December and I still have not received my deductible back. I've called the insurance agent and she does not return calls or follows up with the other insurance company. I called the other company yesterday and the man told me that they were waiting on a response from an email that they sent in October. Over a month later and Amica has not responded. I called the agent at Amica's 1st line supervisor and left a message on her voice mail and wow, I still haven't received a call. It's been 3 1/2 hours. Not as helpful as some of these reviews say they are. I think all insurance companies need to be regulated more." 2008-12-16 15:51:25 EST
"based my quote and rate on inaccurate information that was not mine but belonged to other people not living with me and who have never lived at my address yet because they had negative information it was used against me to INCREASE MY RATE and despite numerous attempts to get rate to reflect accurate information (in writing sent certified mail, email and numerous phone calls where I was given the run around and talked down to by both local and corparte offices) AMICA refused to update my account." 2009-01-07 19:45:30 EST
"I am in the middle of an auto claim and have found the process and the outcome to completely awful. A couple of years ago I filed home claims and they were wonderful.
The auto claim has been like pulling teeth to get the adjuster to communicate clearly and to approve repairs that will leave my vehicle in similar condition to what it was before the wreck.
The staff at Amica did not explain how much different ***and worse*** the auto claims process would be vs. a home claim. I asked for a supervisor and was told there were none available.
I have reconciled myself to Amica leaving me with a poorly repaired vehicle that I will have to sell as soon as I can get it to a different mechanic who can do additional repairs to make it driveable and sellable. I'll try USAA or someone else. I have loved Amica for years but for years I haven't filed an auto claim. This sucked." 2008-12-28 23:49:06 EST
"Never had a claim with any insurance company. I shopped around and Amica had the strongest reputation for service and they were definitely inexpensive for us. We pay our bills on time, excellent credit, and perfect driving records. I realize that this isn't the case for everyone, so I suggest doing your own homework.
Only complaint is that they ALWAYS try to cross-sell life insurance...and I have had cancer twice, so don't qualify. I have to say that they're persistant." 2009-01-09 19:24:23 EST
"I have been with AMICA for over 30 years. I do not believe I would ever leave them. Just recently, my daughter's car was broken into (windshield broken). AMICA had the windshield repaired before the police arrived at the home - that says a lot for both AMICA and the police! I have had both homeowners and auto claims - no hassle and always with great speed to resolution." 2009-01-12 15:25:57 EST
"I was given 3 different responses by 3 different claims reviewers. Also, I was told that the situation was covered by Underwriting. The claims office gave me misinformation on 4 occasions and then also had the date of the occurrence wrong. When I ask for an interpretation of their own policies, I was put on hold 6 times because the person did not know what it mean and how to interpret several provisions. AWFUL SERVICE!" 2009-01-22 14:59:27 EST
"Company raises rates without previous claims over time. I have seen complaints about this on other review sites. They bait you in with low premium but increase it significantly annually. Bait and switch! Beware" 2009-01-19 12:52:13 EST
"They raised our rates right after I inquired about making a claim. Even though nothing was paid out. Then, this year, they raised our rates 40% because our credit rating dipped slightly." 2009-01-19 21:13:00 EST
"Been with this company over 15 years. Recently had my car broken in to. Company does not want me to deal with the auto repair shop I've used for many years. Trying to steer me to other repair shops. Definitely will not renew my policy. Only one or two minor claims over the years.Very disappointed. " 2009-01-20 09:56:22 EST
"With 2 auto accidents I received instant, compassionate, thoughtful emotional support with virtuallly overnight payment and was blown away by what superb service and quick
renumeration happened. One case was complex and a long time to settle, but they kept me apprised throughout months of action." 2009-01-27 18:47:25 EST
"When I asked about home owners insurance they told me that they will not insure homes with guns. All homes should have guns and they should be out of business." 2009-02-23 23:41:48 EST
"mu husband was in a accident with a professional con artist. He ran into this woman at 7 mph because she abruptly stopped at a driveway intead of at the corner 30 ft beyond the driveway. Amica paid a claim of 5500. More than 1/2 was for a car rental. we questioned them and they had no answers for us re: this hight rental car fee they paid out. Then months later she claimed injury. at the time of the accident she jumped out of the car and yelled at my husband. We learned that she never went to a doctor for nearly 6 months and she was in a 2nd accident 2 wks after my husbands unfortunate incident with her. Amica paid out an extraordinary amount on this claim as well. When asked why they said there was little evidence for paying the claim but it was a nuisance and they preferred to pay it. AS GOOD CUSTOMERS WE FELT LET DOWN. They paid on illegitimate claims to make there jobs easier and so they could raise our rates. We thought they would be our advocate they were not. "I was just reading over the other responses on the site...it just baffles me that some people write things and I dont think really THINK about things. A trampoline is a HUGE liability concern, why would they not be concerned? Do you think that your insurance company wants to have to pay out when someone sues you because their kids fall off it? Also, if you hit a car, you are at fault, thus it is your insurance companies responsibility to pay out on your belalf...that is the deal. I think that a company would do anything in its power to NOT have to pay out if they dont have to. It does not take a lot of time or effort to realize that all rates with all companies are filed with the states that they underwrite in. They cant just 'raise a rate because I asked about a claim'...that is the stupidest thing I think I have ever heard. It is also illegal to sway someone to use one body shop for an accidents vs another...why would Amica break the law? They have no incentive to do so. Amica DOES NOT HAVE AGENTS. So if a person leaves the company it is no big deal. The whole idea of a direct writer is that you can talk to anyone at any time, it is easy and pain free. I think these consumers are not happy because they need to find SOMETHING to whine about. Amica is #1 for a reason. They are not the lowest rate and they dont claim to be. They are the best. I would love to switch to save money, but when something bad happens, I need to know that I have someone in my corner that will represent me fairly. That is Amica's deal." 2009-02-14 19:55:27 EST
"May not be the cheapest but you get a fair value for your dollar. I have been with them almost 40 years." 2009-02-16 16:55:07 EST
"I live in Tampa Florida and have home and hurricane and flood insurance through Amica. They are a very conservative company but the best. They also have re-insurance in case they have too many claims in a year. Though my house value has increased every year since it was built in 2001 my yearly insurance bill went down by $70 this year. A Great Company!!!!" 2009-02-19 19:19:01 EST
"I love Amica! I am treated very well" 2009-03-02 01:34:27 EST
"While this compmany has been in business for over 100 years, I don't suspect that it will stay another 30. They continue to move away from local offices that know their customers to customer service centers that are based on life referrals and bugging you to buy and spend more and more. If you get a Representative that knows what they are doing, they still have to send it to whatever state you live in to fix anything. I think that knowing your customer is much more productive for the customer then a company wanting to make so much money that knowing the customer does not matter any more. " 2009-03-03 13:32:50 EST
"Had 3 claims on our homeowners insurance in 2 years due to hail damage and extensive wood rot due to unflashed patio door (10k combined for all). Just received notice of non-renewal due to the claim. Never had other issues with the company until now. Used their contractor all times. Hail damage was 7 days after bought the house. Am going to switch car insurance as well if someone will take us. Got to love it - it is legalized loan sharking. They want their $$ but when you ask to cover damages, you get dropped." 2009-03-19 20:15:25 EST
"Auto insurance canceled because they misapplied my payment - some to my mother's amica policy, some to my other amica policy. After I made 20% payment, they reinstated, told me they would take care of RMV so my plates were not revoked. Came home from vacation last night to find a letter from the RMV notifying me that my plates would be canceled effective today. Called Amica immediately - was told not to worry - I could drive the car. So I drove the car to work - only to recieve a call from Amica today telling me the plates HAD been revoked. I have spent the whole day on the phone with them trying to resolve this. They keep telling me I am all set, yet I have yet to recieve written confirmation. I will NEVER renew a policy with them. (None of this even touches on the fact that I don't think there website has been updated since 1991. It's truly awful - since I live in the same state as my parents' and we both have policies with Amica, it does not seem that we can both use the website.)" 2009-03-12 16:29:40 EST
"the "front office" is very helpful. When dealing with the "back office" when I made a claim, things didn't go well. They didn't communicate at all, were overly eager to settle when I wasn't at fault, and took a good deal of proding to stand up for my claim. It's been over 8 months and I sitll have no resolution." 2009-03-20 18:30:37 EST
"I have been with AMICA for 39 years and when I filed a claim they sent an adjustor who war rude and abrasive. I ordered him off of my roof because of his lack of professionalism and when he got back to the office he accused my roofer of lifting tabs. I was out with the roofer the whole time and never saw anything of the kind. The adjuster was just angry to have been called off of the roof. Service is not a priority at AMICA anymore,, guess I havent been a member long enough." 2009-03-25 13:33:46 EST
"First I was told that my homeowner's policy would not cover an accident in my home. After I said I would contact an attorney, I got a call back early the next morning telling me that I was covered. Rates are much higher than other companies." 2009-03-27 12:27:44 EST
"One homeowners claim dues to ice damage, our rate goes up after claim. Poor homeowners claim handling. One Auto claim where I was rear ended by another vehicle, Amica deems the car totaled but no timely or fair settlement. Adjusters just do not return calls. Over 20 years, I had not had any insurance claims prior to these two at all. This was a very poor and frustrating claim handling experience, as bad as it gets! Will switch definitely." 2009-04-02 16:24:18 EST
"Amica has great ratings for customer service from JD Powers and other independent ratings companies & I'm always able to get through to somebody who can help me. Everybody there is very friendly." 2009-04-07 13:22:28 EST
"Extremely prompt service with equitable claims payments. " 2009-04-14 10:16:28 EST
"I have been with Amica for over 45 yrs and have always found them to be very fair and very helpful" 2009-04-17 17:28:42 EST
"Parallel parking I touched the car behind very lightly. A women jumped out claiming I had scratched her bumper. I am two passengers in my car examined her bumper and found nothing but she made a claim against Amica. Amica informed me that it would pay her $600. That amount would have raised my rate $500 a year. I brow beat my agent into calling my witnesses and lowering the pay out to some $300, which wouldn't raise my rate. Still it was a fraudulent claim. The agent admitted that contesting a claim, even if fraudulent, took too much time. I finally did prevail, but feel put upon and annoyed." 2009-05-13 14:04:51 EST
"as a former Rhode Island resident with about 40 years of auto insurance with this company, I can only say good things about them. I do not like it however that after 30 plus years of homeowners insurance I have to take my business elsewhere because I live in Florida" 2009-05-23 20:52:12 EST
"After 23 years with the company they dropped me to a state mandatory limit of coverage - $5K. They stated it was because I had too many claims and moving violations. I have five cars costing over $7K/yr. Although I had a clean record for about 20 years the prior three years there were 3 minor fender benders (Amica paid no more than $1K out of their pocket) and 3 moving violations. This seems like a lot but two were in a parking lot and one was low speed impact in rotary. Right after they dropped my coverage my wife was in an accident. Because of the low coverage it cost me $8.5 K out of pocket. AFter 23 years of paying thousands of dollars and a very clean record for the majority of the time they dropped my coverage and left me vulnerable. I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!" 2009-05-24 18:45:43 EST
"They only will provide excellent service to get you in. Once you are in with them, you will never receive the right services from them anymore, not even be able to get in touch with them!" 2009-07-27 18:20:47 EST
"Filed homeowners claim and used the contractor that Amica highly recommended..Has been a disaster." 2009-07-23 07:38:24 EST
"Have had Amica auto coverage for 38 years. Have had Amica home and life insurance for almost as long. Service has always been outstanding and rates are competitive. I have had to file a couple of auto claims for the kids fender benders (one turned into a total even though it was a minor crash) and I was very impressed with how they were handled. I was unable to get home coverage in LA but was able to insure my current home in TX." 2009-07-24 10:02:45 EST
"We had Amica insurance. Never again.
We were driving on I-290 and were hit by a tire that fell off a large tractor-trailer truck.
Essentially, Amica blamed my husband for the accident. He has a meticulous driving record, and he certainly was not charged in the accident by the police. The tire came rolling and bouncing down the highway. He maneuvered incredibly well, but we were hit in the front of our vehicle.
We ended up having to pay much more for car repair than we should have.
We advise everyone against doing business with Amica. Their policies are unfair to the consumer." 2009-07-31 17:35:59 EST
"Been with them for years. Very fast and fair in paying my auto claim. My brother also has auto insurance with them and has a similar experience.
" 2009-08-03 12:09:50 EST
"We had a serious hail storm that damaged our roof and one car. They promptly wrote the claim for a reasonable amount with no attempts to lowball.
My other car got broken into 4 months later, I had the same great experience, and they are still willing to renew my coverage. I figured I was headed for insurance purgatory after 3 claims in my first year." 2009-08-11 17:22:48 EST
"best insurance company ever. they send your money so promptly. after a claim in made." 2009-09-04 19:14:08 EST
"auto accident police report states other party was at fault ,car should have been totaled.almost 4 months later car is still in repair shop, very unhappy customer." 2009-09-28 21:34:26 EST

"Our claims were handled quickly and professionally. The claims associates were very friendly and listened when we told them our situation. The claims adjustor sent to us was punctual, friendly, and did a thorough job with his inspection. The inspection report was available to the claims department by the next business day. The computer access allowed us to follow the claims process on line. They are not the least expensive insurance company around but they do pay out legitimate claims in a timely manner" 2009-10-07 12:16:17 EST
"First of all they cancelled my policy over $ 3.75 fee that they said i owed whenn i paid my policy when i had auto payments i fought with them and they additted it was there mistake I had to file a claim when my truck caught on fire and it took them 6 weeks to settle it took 4 weeks just for them to send an adjuster to look at my truck then he messed up and it took another week to get him back to look at the truck my i carry full coverage on my cars and get the extra coverage for towing and rental and low and behold my policy changed without my knowing and tried to use the sub. transportaion and that was not there once again they addmited it was there fault that it was dropped but they wouldnt reimburse me for the 6 weeks of the rental pay attention to your policy with amica they told me all my problems happened when there system crashed and all i got was we are sorry our system failed but we wont help you about the changes that happened to your policy." 2009-10-20 22:43:49 EST
"Friendly, helpful, professional and fair" 2009-10-13 01:16:31 EST
"38% increase in home owner premium after 1st year. Trying to find out why. We have not filed any claims and have excellent credit. Our home is less than 1 yr old and valued at approx. 420K." 2009-11-04 13:42:21 EST
