"My mother has a long-term care policy with Conseco.
Conseco takes a long time to pay claims, sometimes two months.
The ltc policy has an inflation protection rider that increases the daily benefit 5% every year.
Conseco has tried to claim there was no inflation protection rider.
Conseco often claims they never receive the annual election to take advantage of the annual increase. Having an annual election is one way to beat old, forgetful folks out of their rider.
My mother has Alzheimers. If it weren't for my constant supervision of their handling of her case, Conseco would have ripped mom off for over $137,000 so far if they had gotten away with denying the existence of the inflation rider. Presumably, they have tried that on every policy holder because the letter she received denying the existence of the rider was a form letter.

"Evidently only one woman in office, cannot understand her, supposedly puts on supervisor,-but same person! I keep getting a run around, saying they have not received necessary papers while all have been sent more than once. She keeps telling me she needs a UB92 form, which is obsolete. It has been over 6 months now, and I feel they will not pay off this claim. What to do now? I am still paying almost $40 a month for this policy that I feel I cannot drop or they will surely not pay, but how long do I have to put up with this?" 2008-06-14 11:48:07 EST
"Do not buy any insurance from this company. I have had a policy since 1988. Now I am filing a claim and have had constant frustration over the whole process. The claims dept relies on confusion in hopes that you will give up on the claim. Every time you call to inquire about your claim status, they will tell you different information about your claim. There is no way to collect on a claim because they never complete the process. They just keep putting you off in hopes that you will give up. The consumer call center is in another country. They are impossible to understand with their heavy accents. You can never talk to a person in the US or at the headquarters. They have better security than the pope has. You will never get a straight answer or collect on your claims. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. "I have a cancer income policy for many years.I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. They paid the claims for chemotherapy in 2005 and for radiation therapy in 2006, up to the limits of the policy and I was very impressed and satisfied. However, now that we've reached the hormonal level of therapy, which is covered under the policy, they are using every delay tactic possible, and now wish to know if my cancer is "active". I have answered every question they've delayed the process with, have called on a weekly basis as they are now 6 mos. of claims in arrears, and keep getting the "canned" responses from their offshore claims dept. I understand from the internet that their senior health care policies have been transferred to a trust as of Dec. 2008, and that funds will most likely not cover claims. I have had no correspondence from the company which is insult to injury. I plan to continue to fight this as I feel I am getting ripped off and am especially concerned for all those who are not able to fight for their rights." 2009-02-18 13:30:34 EST

"I have had to change my bank account information for the ACH debit about 4x since I have had this policy starting in 1992. Every single time I do that there are problems. Their systems and bookkeeping are THE WORST I have ever encountered. They're customer service people are inept and condescending. I am thoroughly disgusted with this company and have no alternative but to continue for another 3 years until my policy matures so I can get my premoum refund of $4,000. "I have just retired and realized that I have paid almost $10,000 towards two policies-- cancer and heart--and have not filed any claims to date. This policy does not mature till 2021 which equals another $14,000 out of pocket for me. I don't know whether to cut my losses or continue to pay to a company that might not be around in 2021! "My spouse had a transplant as cancer surgery. They pay according to the difficulty of the surgery $135.00 being the least and $8000.00 as the most difficult. They paid $135.00 for a transplant. "My mother has the home health care policy which was written before they changed the name to Conseco. She is now 98 and needs care. They are refusing to pay saying her provider is not eligible. Also, like others have said, they seem to want more info all the time. My mom still pays every month. They now owe her quite a bit of money. The last letter from this company said I should go to the Illinois Insurance in downtown Chicago to discuss this matter. I hope they will provide me with a lawyer." 2009-07-21 19:43:16 EST
