"The one claim we reported was handled fine. Our problem occurred when we dropped a vehicle and added a another one. I received the statement with the policy change 2 weeks before the next draft from the bank and the monthly rate increased $260. I shopped around and found a less expensive company, went to my agent and canceled travelers. Travelers sent me a $358 refund and then a $692 bill that I still am trying to talk with the company and understand why. I have called, wrote letters, emailed, and still have not talked with anyone. My agent gave me a number to call but it's automated but it is automated and when I enter the account number I am given another number to call which appears to be fax machine. "I signed with Travelers through a broker because of the low premiums. Now after 11 months they send me a letter stating that they will not be renewing my homeowners, citing that I do not have railing on my front poarch. They never informed me that I had to have the railing for this policy, and there is no code for it in my county. The least they could have done would be to allow me some time to comply; but NO!! "I bought auto insurance, the insurance company sent me the paperwork by mail two weeks later with the wrong VIN number. I called my agent or representative to have it corrected. Two weeks later, i got new id cards with the same mistake, i called the guy again. After about two months, i got my paperwork right. "My place of employment carried Travelers Ins. When I was injured at work, and had to use these services it has been, and continues to be a nightmare. Getting doctors, surgeries, physical therapy, and on going treatments has been an obstacle since day one. It seems that Travelers goes out of its way to make these necessary treatments very hard to accomplish, and cares very little about the patients health and well being. It has added a great deal of stress to my already stressful situation. I am beside myself, and very worried about my long term care due to Travelers negligent behavior when dealing with these approvals of treatments. When contacting staff for help, you get pushed to the side, when you do actually speak with adjusters, they are rude, and do little to solve your problem with their own handling of business. It is a vicious circle. A permanent report has been issued where as 7 different doctors and specialists (and many CT, MRI, and neurological tests have been done to back this report), and surgeons have been consulted, and still Travelers is denying the report wanting me to be seen by one of their IMC, while neglecting my ordered care in the mean time. "The rates I have been paying the past years were higher then other people I spoke to. I recently got a lower quote from a competitor which was much lower. I thought the rates were higher because I live near Washington,DC. I asked Travelers if they could be more competitive to keep my business. They told about a program called Quantum. "A blessing...we found out about the company practices on our first claim, a small one. Roof hail damage. 1st they lost the claim. 2nd gave us half a roof, the only one like that within all the houses around us. 3rd of the 4 houses next to us that I talked to the owners, 3 had gutter damage(guess we had uber gutters. 4th the payment was half what the 6 houses next to us received (generalizing that all other house roofs could not be 1/2 ours.) 5th payment was very slow. We didn't ask for peripherial compensation, like the outdoor furniture covers that were destroyed. Just a roof. So atleast it was a large disaster. We can take our money to another company. "We insured both home and auto with Travelers just under three years ago due to lower rates.
Wrong move, unless you are positive that never in your life will you have a claim. If you are not that super natural being, you had best continue shopping.
Your rates after a claim will be more than offset any initial savings.
They handle the claim OK, but when you renew - hang onto your hat.

"We had our home broken into on Sept 13th 2007 and it is now October 27th 2007 and we are not even half way through with anything to do with it. There are a lot of things missing from our family. My son's whole room was cleaned out of over $10,000.00 worth of video game items. He had multiple systems and games. He is heart broken and asks all the time when he can get his stuff back or replacement and now all I can tall him is WHO THE HECK KNOWS. I also have conveyed to my adjuster and anyone else I have complained to that I take two online college courses and we have no computer now in our home and it is effecting my school work and very hard to find somewhere and go and do it, I really get no response from my claims handler, no I'm sorry how long this is taking but.....just a really no answer and she was passing the delay onto the investigater not getting the rpt to her and her hand out ties, I NEED TO TALK TO HIM, well he handed his report in and called and called Andi and no call back. Finallly get a call back and she says were still investigating and I answered Mike said his report is in to you and how long can this take, she pretty much told me as long as they need or in my opinion WANT IT TO. She also told me NOT TO CALL HER, what kind of place that you pay money to for business says don't call me and that she would call me whenever she gets everything done, what a crock of sh&^+&!* So now we are supposed to wait until Andi and this is being handled by a brank in Naperville IL to finish this but I get no updates on what is going on. NOT ONE TIME was I told I am so sorry for your loss and we are trying to get things together, JUST VERY RUDE! My whole family feels like we are being victimized again! As soon as this yearly contract is up WE ARE RUNNING FROM TRAVELERS. I went with them because they were cheaper and I never had to deal with ins claims for the most part so didn't think anything of it. People do your research online here and see what people are saying before you sign with a C. because of the price. This whole this has SO NOT BEEN WORTH ANY SAVINGS I HAVE HAD. Also they sure are quick to withdrawl my money on the exact day every month but once their customers need help, they could care less. I've been treated better when being pulled over for speeding from a police officer. I firmly believe that they practice BAD FAITH INSURANCE BIG TIME. As from what I have dealt with so far I plan on complaining and spreading the word on these snakes as much as possible, unless for some reason there's a mircle nice and caring person that actually works at travelers....lol Also I called there 1800 line to complain multiple times, those are the only nice people I get on the phone but they can't do anything except transfer me to Andi my claims handler and that's it. By the way, the 1800 employee told me that basically that get calls like this ALL THE TIME, COMPLAINTS ON CLAIMS being handled slowly. This company makes so much money and so quick to take your money but once in trouble pretty much screw you and they don't wan't to part with any money. I am so stressed out over all this and how hard school classes and whatnot with my family that I am actually losing sleep and weight and unhealthy. If things don't move somewhere soon I will file a complaint with the IN insurance board on them and will probably have to look into an attorney, but hay what they hell does Travelers care if you get an attorney any money they spend on them is a drop in the bucket to the millions they have and the longer they get to hold onto replacement claim money that THEY OWE MY FAMILY. "Home was broken into, Only a few items were taken, a video camera, a digital camera, an envelope with about #300 dollars, etc. Anyway They made it difficult in filling out a loss claim. Plus an individual whom I thought was a decent friend, was with me when we came back from shopping. He called them and stole my indentity ( in other words he called claimed he was me because of a few details, that "only I would know" ) found out I was getting just $200 to cover just damage from broken door and frame. So he decided to extort money from me claiming if I didnt help him out with $70, he would call my insurance and claim a false claim. "After 9 years with State Farm I was wooed into a change after gettig a great quote from Geico who parteners with Travelers in PA for Homeowners. two months into this Travelers sends a Cancellation notice because the condition of my home was so poor - they said vegitation growing on the roof and missing handrails on a deck. Interestingly, it was just appraised by a LICENSED PROFESSIONAL and deemed in excellent condition. We had 2 contractors come in the spring (07) to look at the roof and BOTH said it has 5 to 7 years left. Travelers is extremely unprofessional and i hope everyone does what they can to ge tthe word out. now i have to deal with getting a new insurer anad having to explain a cancellation. Shame on them. "This is by far the worse Auto Insurance firm in the business. They are late at paying out claims. They are slow at investigations. Their customer service is the worse. STAY AWAY. "My daughter was hit head on, with witnesses proving it is not her fault. My own insurance is treating us like we have the plague. The car was 6 weeks old with 1000 miles, they are offering trade in value and want me to provide all back up for them. Do not want to say medical testing is necessary, My daughter was taken by ambulance to hospital, car was totaled. But they will not say medical treatment is necessary. I have never had a claim in 15 years and this is how they are treating me. Actually said to the doctors office isn't this interesting this person is having medical treating in PA when she is a NY resident, what are they trying to cover up. (she had just returned to her college located in PA) The only paperwork I received was a form to have my daughter get notarized stating we have no other type of car insurance. "The only claim we have had is some weather related damage to our roof, needless to say they denied our claim, claiming the people before us had been paid to replace the roof and did not and they came to that conclusion looking at the gutters saying they had damage and the gutter guards did not. "Their process of paying claims is horrible and they take forever to make a decision, and seem to find reasons as to why they should not pay. They completely under assessed my damages and did not pay the value of the original assessed amount.
I would not recommend Travelers to anyone.

Travelers is dropping homeowners whose homes are safe, in safe locations, well-kept, have never had to file any major claims, are cooperating and have exquisite credit.
Apparently Travelers wants the customers' loyalty but refuses to return any.
Beware. I warn all people to avoid Travelers, if not because of this lack of lolaty to customers, for the principle of the matter.

Our home had a fire and Travelers' was very responsive for a day, and since then has been dishonest, vindictive and made my family's life miserable. They even attempted to say we set the fire, even when we were 3 states away when the fire happened. They use ANY excuse to belittle and run over you, ignore you and flat out lie to you. We are now subjected to investigation (which the authorities have dropped) and are being evicted from our temporary housing because Travelers' will not pay the due amount. As a result our landlord is suing us and we have to move to another town to stay with family and lose our jobs. We are going to sue this company raw and are not going to let them get away with their crap. "My 19 year old daughter was victim to a hit and run accident that totalled her car. Travelers issued us a settlement check for our car in less than one week so that we could purchase a replacement vehicle. Not only were we pleased with the quick response, but we were satisfied with the amount of the settlement. "GEICO (auto) and TRAVELERS (home) are tied together at the hip. GEICO auto insurance has been good. I have only had 1 accident in the 18 years I've been with them but I like them. "Had kitchen fire in January 08. It is now May 08 and still not in house. Whole experience is a nightmare. We have had to move 4 times. Company is unresponsive. To top it off while in the midst of the claim and still displaced we get a letter from the company informing us that they would be dropping us. What poor customer service. 8 years as client only one claim and dropped. I will be writing letter to company and informing them that I will tell everyone I meet NEVER to deal with this company. Totally stressed out for 5 months. There is not enough space to describe the horror. However I have to mention a few of the crazy situations.
1. The temporary housing company is trying to sue us because Travelers would not pay them the deposit on the home that was found for us.
2. The temp house we were placed in did not have adequate hot water for 2 1/2 weeks. When we finally decided to leave the landlord threatened to sue us for breach of contract and would not return the deposit.
3. Travelers would not pay for the utilities in the temp house. Now they have added the cost to our damaged house and are threatening to turn utilities off. It goes on and on. Somebody wake me up. NEVER GET TRAVELERS!!!!!!!" 2008-05-10 18:19:48 EST
"A pipe burst releasing 36 gallons of water. A plumber fixed the pipe and another company dried out the walls.
About 36 sqare feet of wallboard needed replacing and painting etc.
Travelers combed my policy until they found a reason to deny coverage. They were rude and unprofessional.
This claim is active as of May 2008 and I surmise this will be a long battle. The amount of money is minimal for the claim compared to what I have paid in premiums AND I am doing all of the repair work myself.
The people I dealt with at Travelers were either rude, deceitful or underqualified.

"The roof of my home was damaged in the March, 2008 tornadoes that hit the Atlanta areas. My roof (cedar shake) was destroyed to the point of no repair. Travelers refused to replace - I contacted 8 established roofers and could not get a quote to repair from any of them. None would do it with any warranty at all. I got quotes to replace, the least expensive was $10,575 for a shingle roof. The least expensive quote for cedar shake roof, which I had was, $23,000. My policy carries replacement coverage. They refused to pay for any type of replacement and sent me a check for $2,200, saying the roof could be 'patched'(their word) which I have not cashed. Their treatment was not even courteous, let alone helpful. After waiting and doing everything in my power to deal with the Traveler Claims Office in Alpharetta, GA and being stonewalled from every angle, I had the roof replaced to mitigate any further damage to my home from leaks, etc, with less expensive roof. They kept telling me they would send out a readjuster three times and then, finally, said they were not. I have heard of other homeowners in this area who have received treatment almost 'chapter and verse' to same as my situation. Calls were not returned and no one I spoke with would tell me the name of the Home Office Claims Manager nor phone number. To say the least, this has been the most stressful and frustrating experience I have ever had with any business of any kind.
Another home in my small subdivision had damage to her roof. Her roof was 21 years old, mine 10 years old and her damage was not as bad as mine. Her carrier (State Farm) covered her total expense to replace her roof.
Travelers had kept telling me one of the reasons they declined coverage was that my roof was so old and there were some knot holes in some of the shingles.

"Adjuster ignored me entirely; didn't show up and never returned calls. I had to track down a manager just to get him to call me. Claim was set to defraud me my replacing items with items of lower quality. According to them a 36" flat screen HDTV is equivalent to a 27" standard cathode tv. Then they even had the nerve to depreciated it! 48" floor speakers = 5" bookshelf speakers. The list goes on. "Had to hire a private adjuster to obtain rightful payout on a claim and had to hire a lawyer to sue them for another claim. Company constantly demands their right to inspect house and tries every way possibly to cancel. If you have a had a claim within 5 years of seeking new home insurance (no matter how small) no one wants to insure you. I have not had a claim for over 5 years and now the company is again sending someone to "inspect" the house. No doubt looking for a reason to cancel me. "Not supportive at all when it comes down to filing a claim. They would rather accuse you indirectly of filing a faulty claim and try to disprove you rather than to be there when you need them.

"I had hail damage 5/31/2008. The first adjuster said that they could only replace half of my roof. All my neighbors that surround me had their entire roof replaced with in three weeks. I am still trying to deal with them but they are impossible. In fact after the adjuster re-inspected he stated that he is not sure why the first adjuster said there was damage. We had golf ball sized hail!! Give me a break. Anyone considering Travels look some where else as when you need them most they will turn their backs on you. Customer service??? What customer service. "I have Travelers through AAA (whom I've been with for over 30 years). I've had no violations, claims, etc., yet my insurance rates have gone up 63% in the past year! They have no explanation for it. Travelers was very quick to cover a few small loss items like refrigerator spoilage and four hotel nights, but they were completely unwilling to deal with loss of use issues. We were out of the unit for two and half months while the unit was re-drywalled.
Travelers will not make good on alternate living arrangements for this two and a half month period. Two and a half months of mortgage payments was by far the bulk of my claim.
If you need an insurance policy to check off a box, this is probably a good choice.

"I have had Travelers Auto and Home insurance for over 21 years. I had a $100 deductible on the home insurance and after 20 years of no claims I had 3 paid claims in 2007 for just over $1,200 paid. I also had water damage from a deck that was apparently connected to the home wrong. The deck was on the home when I bought it. The adjuster said that is not their problem. Now I have received a non renewal letter from Travelers. Because of the 3 claims they paid in 2007 I cannot get home insurance and may have to go in the State Insurance Program. "This company denied our claim for hail damage. In late summer 2008, there was a hail damage storm and our roof was hit. About 90% of the people in our neighborhood received new roofs from the damage. We contacted the Travelers agent and he stated that we ha no damage and that we had dents on the covers to the fireplace...
We requested that they come out again to look at the roof because everyone in our neighborhood had roof damage. The agent made it seem like we were making the damage up and stated that pictures were taken from the initial inspection. The agent made reference to the age of the roof, the roof is extremely old and does need replaced. Regardless of the age of the roof, if we have insurance coverage and we have hail damage we should get the roof covered, no matter how old the roof is. In addition, our roof has little tree coverage compared to the other neighbors that received new roofs.
The second agent came out with an expert and they stated that we only had one hit every so many square feet and that it did not justify a new roof.
Through out this entire process we had heard stories about Travelers and how they denied claims. Thanks Travelers... Nice to know that we can count on our insurance company when we need it..... We will switch and do better research the next time we purchase home owners insurance.
This was just one issue, we even had problems with setting up the account... I guess we should have know better.

"When Hurricane Ike came through St. Louis MO, last October, we recorded over four inches of rainfall in just one of the over five hours of hard, wind blown rainfall. Water cascaded over our gutter on the west exposure. It ran down the outside brick wall surface below the gutter and leaked through a hole in the mortar joint a foot above ground level. The rainwater ran through the wall four inches above the foundation and came down the inside foudation wall, across the carpeted area of basement, ruining the carpet, pad and installation work. We immediately removed the soaked carpet to prevent mold formation.
The next day we called our broker and got the adjuster's number; called and she said they had many claims to examine and could I send in photos/email. I did this thinking it was a routine claim and would be covered since ground water was not the cause. The claim was denied offhand, without adjuster inspection.
Then our broker came to examine the problem and appealed to Travelers to reconsider because "ground water" in the exclusion rider was not the cause of damage. A week or so after this they finally sent an adjuster who seemed satisfied that the water did not come from the ground or after ground contact, or through the foundation or sewer. After a week the adjuster called to tell me they would still deny the claim and would send a letter to that end.

"i'm in the middle of a claim with this company. i was struck by another driver in a rear end collision. the other driver has been so far been determined at fault. i have whiplash injuries that have resulted in painful spinal defects, and am still undergoing treatment. it's been almost 2 months since the accident happened. i've found my adjusters to be for the most part extremely slow to respond, or in several situations grossly incompetent. they 'loose' medical forms and act like they don't have my doctors info, when i've provided it multiple times, via faxes, phone calls, and direct calls to agents. despite having whiplash, when i did not show enough improvement in a short enough time span, i was threated by being told i would have to see 'their' doctor. i've been told this is often a ploy to say that you are 'all better' even when you are far from it. i pay my premiums, and have a home insurance policy with this company, in addition to my car insurance. i have not felt supported or helped at all. i've had to hire a lawyer because i felt that i was being ignored and treated llke a pest, instead of being helped. my car still isn't fixed, and worse still any time i call them they either take the better part of week to get back to me, and then sometimes not at all. this treatment has continued even after getting a lawyer and speaking to a direct supervisor at branch who provides my policy. they are terrible. do not go with this company. i've definitely decided to get insurance elsewhere as soon as i can do the research needed to ensure i don't get another dud. "I've had renters insurance with Traveler for about 9 years. My apartment was broken into and cameras / lenses and a laptop were stolen. I sent the claim in within two week's of the incident which would have been sooner but it took time to get the police report. After waiting another two-plus weeks, they then tell me they need to send an ivestigator based on the size of the claim (about $7,000). He interview me for about 30 minutes (what I make, what I drive, what was stolen, etc.) This was two weeks ago a have still not gotten any word on the claim, only that the adjuster has to get the final report from the investigator and review it with a supervisor. How long am I supposed to wait? Why did it take two-plus weeks for them to realize that they needed to investigate this? My downstairs neighbor who was also robbed settled with an isurance company I never heard of before I even met with the investigator for almost the same amount I am claiming. It's coming up on two months since being robbed and I want an answer on my claim. I will certainly not renew this policy, if they don't drop me first. To top it off, I purchased the insurance through a close friend and when he submitted the original claim mentioned to the adjusted that I was a personal friend. So much for that. "I had my pipes burst this winter, leaving me with no heat and no water. Travelers took their sweet old time to even start paying, demanding ridiculous amounts of paperwork, above and beyond what was necessary to provide them all necessary information. My adjuster failed to tell me they needed papers from me up front, I think, just to delay the process further. Then my adjuster would not call me or return my emails, his supervisor wouldn't return my calls, even their supervisor never returned my calls. When I questioned why the process was taking so long, my adjuster had the nerve to complain about how he was too busy and wasn't even working on my claim yet. It took them over 2 months to pay, this being a very cold winter, led to my boiler freezing, after not being on for over 2 months. Then they had a whole other long process to get me that money. I'm still waiting for a portion of the payout, and now they're harassing me as to why the repairs aren't done yet. They demanded to reinspect the house, and are now demanding that all repairs be done in the next 3 months. I work 6 days a week, the repairs have been slow coming. And the fact that I don't yet have all the money they said they'd give, puts the financial burden on me. I hate Travelers and am currently looking to change insurers. They tried to rip me off for replacement of my TV after a lightning strike. I had the best money could buy in 2000 50 inch Theaterview TV with split screen technology (I could watch 2 full sized stations at once). Cost in 2000 was $3000. Today (2009) they were willing to replace it with a bottom of the line 50 inch TV. The reason they gave is that I had 720p and 1080 is an upgrade. Well no crap!!! You have to search far and wide to find a 720p TV today. Where is my integrated sound system? Where is my split screen technology. Seems that I am not entitled to those features anymore!!! Here I was trying to reasonable by finding a middle of the road solution.

"my parents business burnt down a few months ago. we had our insurence under Travelers. We were paying for a insured amoutn of $475,000. when the building burnt down they brought in someone from out of state to tell us how much it was worth, they then tried to make us settle for $200,000. that being $275,000 under the price that was agreed. yet did they know we know people that are now helping us get what is rightfully ours. I do not know how Travelers sleep at night knowing they could financialy ruin a fam. I am determined and will distroy travelers reputation and business for what they have done. be sure they will be expecting a HUGE LAWSUIT, and years of bad reputation spreaded for causing a family of six to go through such stressful and financial probs.
