Company History: Unigard Insurance Company is the successor to a company incorporated under a different name in 1960. In 1993, it became a part of Winterthur U.S., a subsidiary of Swiss insurer Winterthur Swiss Insurance Company. In 2006 European insurer AXA purchased Winterthur. Winterthur U.S. Holdings, Inc., the U.S. part of the Swiss company, is now in the process of selling Unigard, and another insurer, General Casualty to the Australia based QBE Insurance Group. "Insured my home since 1967 with uniguard. One claim about 25 years ago. Another claim this summer for kitchen stove grease fire. Then about six weeks later when someone shot a hole in living room window with a pellet gun. The house has always been extremely well maintained. Uniguard just sent a letter informing me they will no longer insure me because of the two claims. Very unfair."
