"Anyone that has Nationwide as their insurance on their home better think twice. Don't try to make a claim because you will be very disappointed. They don't like claims they only like to deposit your check into their bank account and hope there are plenty of fools to feed their account. If you ever have hail damage call them immediately after a hail storm no matter what. I am definitely changing my home and auto policy to another company that has the decency to work with me on a claim.I had three roofers tell me that I had hail damage which happened last year and I didn't know about the damage until my roof leaked into my home. They denied the claim and I am very disappointed in thinking I had a good company and found out it was the worse company that I could have selected.Do your homework and shop around and be sure to stay away from this company. "No NATIONWIDE IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE." "

"The company cancelled my homeowner's policy that I had for more than 20 years with NO claims. The reason they used? I have ivy growing on a brick wall. The real reason revealed to me by an employee They were instructed to "find a reason" to cancel older policies with no claims because "they were probably due for a claim." What kind of logic is this? I have now cancelled all policies with this company and will never use them again for anything They also treat their employees badly... so it is no wonder that their service is not good."

"I was told to repair a piece of wood and send in picture of repair or my policy would be cancelled. I completed the work on time and called to verify everything was completed on the insurance end. Instead of hearing everything was finished i was emailed a picture dated 6 months earlier showing a repair/add-on the building "needed" to be insurable. This "add-on" would take a week to complete and several thousand dollars. On was on the phone talking and waiting on hold for 3 hours all to find out my insurance policy was cancelled but that the usual underwriters were out and would be back in several days to review the issue. In the end my policy was reinstated oops their little mix up and they did not notify my mortgage company to notify them of their mistake and that my policy had my policy reinstated so my mortgage company bought their own expensive insurance at my expense. Everything was settled today after 30 mins on the phone with mortgage company and nationwide insurance. Summary wasted unpaid time and a big headache. Not worth it im shopping for other insurance companies to cover my car house and investment properties."

"Every year since i had my insurance with this company may rates have gone up I called and asked them why and they said it wasn't my fault just the claims in my area have gone up so they have to increase my rate.I think my state of pa should go back and start regulating these insurance companies.Like they use to and they shouldn't be allowed to raise your rate based on your credit rating it should be based on your driving record. That is another hook up our elected poloticians allowed the insurance companies to do."

"I have been with Nationwide for 28 years. I get the paperwork to renew insurance on my Truck and my wife Jeep and now they have changed our insurance from Nationwide Auto to Nationwide Fire and the price went up by 100.00 for six months. We are tired of the price going up every year with no clams. Found Insurance that is half the price of nationwide. So after 28 years we are going to make the change before they just drop us next."

"Nationwide cancelled my homeowners policy within 3 months due to a prexisting condition flat roof on patio. They had me switch the policy before the underwriter approved the inspection report. The sent me a cancellation letter and a refund check minus 250. The agency's office did not call me to let me know there was a problem. Nationwide is not on your side. This is a very unprofessional company and they only care about the money. They representative was very friendly when she was trying to get my business and called me several times to follow up. When I told her about the cancellation letter I received she said that there was nothing she could do. I never heard from her again. "

"I don't understand why Nationwide's rates increase every time you renew. All I get from the agent is that Nationwide has increased its rates and its nothing that I did. I have found a company that will save me approximately 400 dollars per year for the same insurance and this amount does not even include the so called discounts that I get from Nationwide. I have been with this company for over 40 years and it is time that I leave. The rate hikes are just way too much. "

"Nationwide keeps raising my homeowners insurance. It is now 200 per year higher than when I started the policy three years ago. I went to my local insurance agent today and he got me a Metlife home/auto policy. I saved 40/yr on auto and 145/yr on homeowners policy. I can't wait to call Nationwide and cancel my policies with them."

"My 2013 Toyota was totaled due to no fault of my own. Nationwide totaled it and issued two checks one to Toyota and the balance of the settlement to me. Then they issued a stop payment on both checks due to a mistake of their own. Now they aren't replacing the check and can't tell me when I'll receive payment. I can't get any of the claims reps I had been working with to help me or answer phone calls or return emails. Throughout this entire process I dealt with nothing but incompetent people who didn't know how to do their jobs and could not answer questions. My own agent was useless throughout this entire process and has done nothing to help me."

"I submitted a couple of auto claims during the past 20 years and was satisfied with the claims handling HOWEVER I also had a homeowner's policy for 20 years and they suddenly cancelled my policy because I had some ivy growing on a brick wall I sent the underwriters a 65-page report by the University of Oxford that showed that ivy does NOT cause any damage to brick walls. Nationwide stated "well it might still cause some damage." They refused to consider any evidence. Then my agent got mad because I refused to pay crazy high prices with her for a sub-standard homeowner's policy with another company I moved my home and auto policies and am saving a significant amount of money Nationwide tends to be overpriced. Thank you Nationwide for making a stupid decision. Because of that I am now saving money"

"My insurance adjuster was ruid accussed my husband and I of getting up on the roof and kicking up tiles. My husband is 60 years old iam 55. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW SHE THINKS WE GOT UP THERE CONSIDERING WE DONT OWN A LADDER AND WE BOTH HAVE FEAR OF HEIGHTS? They refused our claim and in addition to that when we asked what our insurance does cover she informed us that depends on what precautions we take to protect our homethey could refuse our claims if they find negligence. I am guessing they dont pay out much in claims considering all the ring you have to jump through to make THEM happy."

Unable to afford Nationwide they made a very big error. Quoted 187 monthly to paying the actal 240 is too much of a difference for an experinced rep to be off. "

He would not return emails and calls on the rate increase. Eventually had to cancel in Nov after nearly one year of running around. Of course they would not provide me a correct refund of my prepaid premium. Please be aware. Never again. Shame on Nationwide. "

"I contacted my agent on a homeowner claim for water damage. It took Nationwide over 30 days to inspect the home then send a report denying my claim. I had to live in a home with mold water damage with no approval to fix the problem. Water was entering the home through damaged flashing around my chimney and after getting approval from my Claims Examiner I sealed the damaged flashing to prevent further damage before the Examiner came out to inspect it. When the Examiner finally was able to inspect it in addition to an Engineer they both stated "water could not have come into the house at the flashing because that is all sealed up"."

"I have had Nationwide on my home in California for the last seven years and have made no claims. I received a letter that they would no longer be providing earthquake coverage but that coverage would be available through the California Earthquake Authority. I received the renewal policy and a few days later the proposed California Earthquake Authority policy. If I stay with Nationwide and use CAA for earthquake my cost would be 2800 annually and the CAA policy would not cover the same as the Nationwide policy did. I was forced to change to Amica because it would cost me over 1000 less and they are higher rated. Nationwide considered its own interests and not mine when they unilaterally decided to no longer offer earthquake coverage direct. "

"I have multiple policies with Nationwide. Ove the years there have been constant problems with changes in coverage. They have cancelled policies for no apparent reason and I have had to spend unnecessary time on the phone trying to get the policies reinstated. I decided to get an umbrella policy with them but to do so I had to switch my auto policy. Over the course of two days I spent about three hours on the phone setting up all of the policy changes. Then about a month later I received a notification that the umbrella policy had been cancelled because the auto policy had not been set up properly - after they set the two policies up at the same time. So I had to spend another 30 minutes on the phone to get everything fixed. This has gotten to be ridiculous and Im planning to switch soon. "

They only view external damage so when you have your own shop do the work they will always find additional damage that must be approved by a different adjuster who takes days to come out holding up the repair. "My home was severely damaged by a hail storm. The adjusters solution to fixing the damaged siding mind you there are holes some of them the size of softballs in all of the siding on two sides of my house the solution salvage 12-15 pieces of siding from one side to repair the other. My broken windows Manufacturer recommended replacing due to the damage nope the adjuster said the manufacturer just wanted to sell me windows they can be reglazed. On top of that my record shows that adjusters have been in contact with me multiple times. Ive seen one adjuster who was at my house one time so not sure how this would constitute multiple times. There was an adjuster scheduled to be at my house but he want to the wrong address spent at least 45 minutes at my neighbors house where there was no one home and they werent even insured by Nationwide. "I was looking over previous bad comments and I can tell you that if an insuance company cancelled you it probably for a good reason and everyone is quick to say that the insurance company didnt send out the proper documents and they werent notified. The truth is that most people dont want their coverages explained to them nor do they read the doucments that are sent nor do they check their banks accounts on a monthly basics to make sure the insurance company is taking out their payment. So blame it on the insurance company all you want but the truth is that when you are not paying attention to the important things an not asking questions about what is covered and how it is covered. Well then its the consumers fault Insurance is important nobody wants to carry but you have to carry it so the next time you start a policy ask what each coverage covers and what extra you need to carry instead of trying to look for the cheapest rate because I can tell one thing about insurance its about quality not price"

"Customer for years literally cannot remember when I did not have Nationwide Insurance. Recently they canceled my homeowners insurance without my knowledge and sent notification of such to a pre-2008 address of course I did not receive that notification. In addition on their own accord they chose to quit withdrawing the automatic payment from my bank account though for some reason they continued to withdraw my RV and automobile premiums. Finally they turned me into a collections agency for non-payment of the homeowners premium that they had control to pull out and always had control of for years. At no time did I request this cause this have insufficient funds or withdraw authorization this was all directed by Nationwide and Nationwide alone. The way I found out about this was from an automated phone call from their collections agency. Imagine my distress when I found out that I had been without homeowners insurance for months the biggest asset of my life My stellar credit was now in the toilet for non-payment of insurance to Nationwide who had total control of whether or not to automatically withdraw this from my bank...why was I turned in Why was this notice sent to an old address when I have documents showing that since 2008 Nationwide had my correct address on my homeowners policy Why did I received mailings that week to my correct address from Nationwide on my RV and auto policies Why was I not called They do not feel homeowners insurance and the cancellation of it would be a big deal to a longtime loyal customer When called Nationwide showed total indifference to my plight. They tell me I was canceled because they couldnt verify my address - though like I said I have numerous documents including that week with my correct address on it. No other reason whatsoever for them to cancel my homeowners and turn me into the collections agency. They tell me its up to me to correct the situation with the collections agency though I have absolutely nothing from Nationwide on why I was turned in or who to contact nothing...only that one automated phone call that made me aware that I had no homeowners insurance. Had my house burned down in this time frame it would have wiped me out and Nationwide didnt care. I am happy to say I am now with Hartford AARP and am saving 600 over what I was paying with Nationwide. I am working on getting a class action suit together and have contacted every news agency I can think of. I canceled every policy I had remaining with Nationwide and feel it is my obligation to warn other consumers. How dare they cancel my homeowners and put my family in jeopardy plus turn me into collections due to no fault of my own and then hold my credit rating and me hostage to their bureaucracy They are not on your side I wish someone had told me long ago. To think I trusted my largest assets with these indifferent fools be warned."

"Nationwide made a couple of errors on my auto policy. The main one being that they inadvertently removed my collision coverage from one of my cars--without my approval or knowledge. In the 10 years I have been a customer with them I have not had to file a claim until I scratched a pole a couple of weeks ago. They said I only had liability--they dont have any records as to how my collision coverage got removed but because I had not caught their error they would not reinstate my collision coverage. Clearly Nationwide is on your side as long as you dont have a claim. If you do they are no longer on your side."

Happens year after year. They know there is a problem and do not fix it.Increases are frequent and large-29-49.Cannot rely on website or personnel to know if a provider is covered.Cannot fix their errors quickly or easily.Used to blame all the uninsured for rising cost now it is blame Obama care for increases because everyone eventually is to have insurance. Also say because preventive care is to be covered they have greater costs yet Health Net will not cover all preventive care. They found a loop hole saying a policy is grandfathered so preventive care coverage is limited. If I could at this time not continue my policy I would not."

"I have experienced wind damage to my roof over the last 3 years and paid out of pocket for repairs to keep from filing a claim. On April 26th and 27th the storms caused severe damage to my roof causing a leak in my living room. I called Nationwide and filed a claim on April 27th and didnt see an adjuster until June 1st. The adjuster recommended to replace 1/2 the roof. I requested a quote from two different roofing companies 1 recommended by Nationwide and both said there was also hail damage and the structure needed a full roof. Besides that Ive learned that the matching shingle is no longer produced. Nationwide says they do not have to match the shingle type or even the color to fulfill their obligation to the policy. They are going to send out an engineering company to investigate shingle damage. It has now been over two months and I have still have a defective roof both fuctionally and aesthetically. Im quickly learning that Nationwide is not really on my side after 9 years without a claim. I will definitely seek another insurance carrier once this is settled."

"I am basing my review solely on my experience in filing a recent claim, although I have held policies for over ten years with no other incident. The claim filed was to replace a storm-damaged roof. Other neighbors went through the same process with their various insurance companies -- some being adamantly denied. But Nationwide determined within minutes that the roof needed total replacement, no questions asked. The process was surprisingly smooth. It was nice to know an insurance company had my back, for once."

They refuse to pay because it was not billed as in=patient. Surgery was pre-occupied. He had a total knee replacement in March. We just received a bill from the anesthiologist where they did not pay. Nationwide will give you a low quote, write a policy and shortly afterward you start receiving these notifications of changes to your policy which takes a lawyer to understand. When we asked for a face to face meeting to talk about the high risk rates we were paying when having a perfect credit score and accident free record, the agent out and out lied to us. Customer service agent refused to call a tow to take us out of the water. Hours later and after much argument they finally called a tow BUT tried forcing me to pay for it. The vehicle was recovered but the interior was severely damaged. My girlfriends purse, watch, and credit cards were stolen and used at gas stations downtown. My tools were also stolen. When filing the claim they told me my tools were not covered because they are work related. Thats awefully funny considering I am unemployed. I had to fight to get the theft of my tools covered. I have never filed a claim, I have never been in trouble with the law, and I am current on all my bills, including my car payment and now they are sending an insurance investigator after me. Its absolutly disgusting. Yeah they are on you side and great UNTIL you have to file a claim then you might as well just hire an attorney. The worst customer service ever. "

This error in billing probably cost me over $1000 over 8 years. Nationwide sent me a check for $62 and said they only went back 1 year for matters such as this. "1. Unlike other insurers we have used, they do not send someone to you for inspection after an auto accident. YOU have to get your vehicle to one of their shops (they give you a few choices). They will REIMBURSE you for the tow. But, you do all the work. 2. We experienced a significant delay in auto repair due to them requiring used parts. Each part arrives and must be inspected, then if unsatisfactory they have to search for another part, etc. 2. The parts were then painted and flaked off within 1 week. Neither the shop nor Nationwide would acknowledge any responsibility for this. The shop later tells me that Nationwide is the worst to deal with because of their policies and they have to really cut some corners to make any money on any repairs they do. which is probably why their insurance rates are reasonable. 3. We have policies with 3 different agencies in 3 different states and only ONE agent has ever spoken with me personally. i am always dealing with the secretary or assistant. My formers Farmers and Travelers agents always had time for me and always had the answers or got them. With Nationwide I am ALWAYS told by the agent office person that I have to call the central office, that she THINKS they could tell me the answer to that question. Even when I was in an accident and called their office, they redirected me and never even followed up."

To make matters worse, they are using a body shop to repair my front suspension. They also refuse to give me any estimates.I have been a loyal customer for twelve years and this is my first claim. I now see that Nationwide does not value its loyal customers. "

Of course after having a claim the have canceled the policy which is making it very difficult to obtain other insurance. This is definitely a company to avoid."

But have learned that the service from the competitors was not of the same standard as Nationwide. So I am sticking with them. "My problems started when I sold my old car and tried to get Nationwide to put the replacement car on my policy. At that, they started deluging me with one revised policy after the other (each one with a higher rate than the one before). Finally they demanded that, in order to continue insuring me, I would have to write a letter explaining to their satisfaction how I was insuring the replacement car PRIOR TO THE DATE THAT I BOUGHT IT!! (Like I'm in the habit of insuring unsold used cars in dealer's lots all over the country just for the fun of it.) That was the last straw. I gave up, canceled the policy and went with another company that at least had a minimum of COMMON SENSE. "

I discovered that he hadn't done it when I went to make a claim and the company told me I didn't have coverage. The company wouldn't honor the claim even though they agreed their agent messed up and I had documentation to prove it. Also, the agent didn't cancel my insurance on a house that I sold even though he was involved in the transaction. I ended up paying premiums for coverage on the house for 6 months after the I sold it. Nationwide kept insisting that I owed them for both properties. They finally agreed to refund my money after I showed them closing documents. It took me another 3 months to get the extra premiums refunded to me. I've been with Natiowide for over 25 years but I've had it with them. They no longer seem to know what they're doing and I would not recommend them. "

"Alot depends on the Agent you go with. My Agent was responsive to questions whenever I had one. I had one claim, from hail damage to my house roof. They sent an estimator out and he was knowledgable about hail damage here in Texas. The estimate to fix the entire roof was well within 3 estimates I got from roofers in the area. Nationwide paid promptly and I got the roof repaired within two weeks of the claim. Now for the not so good comments: PRICE After nearly 15 years being with Nationwide, I learned from shopping around that I was being overcharged by 30% or more for car insurance (I had home and cars in a package). Home insurance was adequate but others offered more coverage for the same coverage from Nationwide in my area. I have a small trailer insured, too. Cost to insure from Natiowide was double what others offered. I went to JD Powers survey of insurance and selected the top 5 to call and get quotes from. I chose the top ranking insurer because of their price, repuation, and prompt access, not to mention that I am now saving almost $1300 per year over Nationwide. If Nationwide would have offered me a better price for my cars, and trailer I would not have found a reason to look elesewhere. Home policy was adequate but over priced for the coverage I had. I was told by Nationwide that the charge higher becuase they are a Country Mutual, not a Mutual insurer . . and could not get an explaination beyond that. Sorry Nationwide, you could have saved a customer."

It has "experts" advise about whether or not you should have injuries covered, experts who have never seen nor talked to you. However, they know better than you and your doctor if you need treatment. The company does not respond when you offer to be examined by the "expert". They do not pay you to the full extent of your medical benefits coverage and find all sorts of other reasons that you might be suffering from the injuries that you are having treatment for other than that the injuries resulted from the accident. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND THEM - they should change their slogan to "Nationwide, we're on our side (not yours).""

"I had my auto insurance with Nationwide all my life. My wife also had Nationwide when we got married. We stayed with Nationwide, added 2 more kids and 2 cars to our policy. My premium kept jumping even though we had no claim or traffic violations. My semi-annual premiun topped $3300. When I saw what other people were paying for insuance I questioned my agent and was told that I currently received 9 disounts for various reasons and was not paying an "annual" rate and the premium was correct. I always thought my company would take care of me. I'm now 55 years old..no claims and no tickets. I went through an independant agent and received 9 estimates, comparing apples to apples, for other insurance. The WORST estimate would have saved me $600. semi-annually. I opted for Travelers Insurance and added $50,000 in property damage for $1762 semi-annually. This included the same cars, amounts of coverage, and my wife and two daughters on the policy ( and no extra discounts). Prior to signing with the company I called my agent once more and asked if his premium was actually an annual rate which I was paying twice a year. He reiterated I was getting the best rates I could get.I dropped Nationwide and went with Travelers. I was billed $800+ several months later by Nationwide. I called my agent and he said that it was for several months after I had discontinued coverage because he had been trying to get my rates down and did not actually stop my insurance.I did not pay the extra since I had told him to drop my insurance several days before my coverage would have stopped. I still had my homeowners, which had a watercraft rider on the policy for a 20ft. boat. I received the bill in June, payable by July 17 for $783.I had sold the boat in Feb. and did not need the watercraft rider. My wife called the agent and informed his secretary that we sold the boat and no longer need coverage. The rider was $243. The homeowners bill was $540. She told us to only forward the $540 and that we could possibly get a prorated refund for the unused watercraft rider from Feb to July if we send them a copy of the bill of sale for the boat. My wife and I never got around to doing that and it would have been a small amount anyway. I did send the check for the $540 which was cashed by Nationwide prior to July 17 when it was due.Now it is November and I received a bill for the 2nd installment of my homeowners insurance in th amount of $251. I already paid t he full homeowners amount. my wifew called the agent Saturday when the bill came. Today, Wednesday, a message was left on our machine from our agent. We called him and he said he had our note there about the dale of our boat and he was waiting to see the bill of sale that we promised to send. My wife explained that was only for a refund of the prior billing and that we had dropped the boat coverage in July when we called since we do not have the boat any longer. He said he would try to pro-rate our bill back to July to get some of our money back but we still needed to pay our premium. What, for a boat we do not own any longer? We had cancelled this in July and paid our full homeowners coverage. He asked again for our bill of sale. My wife told him that was for a refund of the previous billing, which we declined, and we would NOT show it to him at this point and we will NOT pay this new, 2nd installment, of our homeowners policy. I have the cancelled check. He is now going to try? to get this 2nd bill quashed and will hopefully have information for us tomorrow. What a rip. He could not tell us to ignore the new bill and he would take care of this?? He is going to try? to get us out from under this. This was OUR fault??? I do not recommend Nationwide to anyone. A friend of mine, with his families auto policy with the same agent for many years, dropped his coverage also when he saw how much he was paying compared to other insurers. He too thought a life long insurance carrier would by looking out for them. They were only looking out for our increased premiums...."

Our agent office is very close. He should have warned his customers. Answer: If roofing companies knock at your door, that's how you find out. The roofing agent said he didn't know Nationwide is the only one that had changed the time limit to 6 mo's to file a claim. He was replacing several roofs for hail around our house. "I had a tree fall on my house, so I called Nationwide to see if they knew anyone who could come out on short notice to remove the tree (it was the 3rd of July). I was having problems finding anyone in my area, because of the storm damage to the area. I was told by Nationwide that they would have a contractor call me that could remove the tree. (This was about noon on the 3rd) So I waited and waited, but no one ever called. So I called them back and the person on the other end was no help at all. Told me that I better find someone, because it wasn't their problem. So, I called the broker to see if I could get any help and again nothing, they told me that if I could not get someone out there, that I better go buy a chain saw and do it my self (yea right 10000 lb. tree on the roof I'm sure that I can remove that) So yes, I think that was the worst customer service I have ever got in my 50 yrs of existence."

"I have been insured with Nationwide since 1998. I have had to report two claims. In one of the claims, I was rear ended by an Uninsured Drunk Driver at about 9 am. It took a while for Nationwide to determine that the other party had no insurance because the driver of the vehicle was not the owner of the vehicle and Nationwide was active in trying to contact both, but neither would return phone calls, etc. As soon as it was determined there was no insurance, my car was in the shop and got the proper repairs. I used a Blue Ribbon Shop and had a wonderful experience. My second claim was a Towing/Labor claim. My daughter locked the keys in the truck. I had someone come out to open the car, I submitted the bill to Nationwide via fax and had the refund in hand in less than a week. I have always had prompt Service from knowledgable, kind Service Agents when dealing direct with the company. I do not have a local agent, but have done business direct with Nationwide."

"We had a wind storm in our area. This resulted in wind damage to our roof. We called Nationwide and they had one of their adjusters come out to estimate the damage. He gave us a $161.37 check, $350 for food and $311.37 for the roof (electricity went out and some food went bad). There were 4 shingles that came completely off and Nationwide said they would fix those. The reason for not fixing the other shingles that were lifted up and damaged was due to improper installation. They came to this conclusion by looking at one shingle that had one nail in the wrong place. Why fix the other shingles that came off then? Never got an answer for that. I had 2 roofing companies come out and show me where we had wind damage. I received an estimate of around $3,000 to fix it. That $100 check is really going to help. I argued with the adjuster on the phone and he finally asked me "what do you want us to do?" I told them that I wanted another adjuster to come out with my roofing guy and come to an agreement on what needs to be fixed due to wind damage. The guy on the phone actually said "Well, I would rather go ahead and do the backside of your house because it would cost me more money to send another adjuster out". Evidence right there that all of their decisions are based on money and not what is truely damaged. I don't have an outcome from all of this as I am still fighting with them. Once I am done, I will be changing companies."

They refused to fix the electronic antenna, which was damaged by the accident, and was in the section that was hit. They told our friend, that they needed to pick up the car though not complete, or they would be billed for the rental car within two hours. They were five hours away. I was very embarressed for the company that represented us."

"Be very careful if you make changes to your policy. I made changes over the phone. they did not make the changes properly. I called to stop the payment from coming out of my checking account and they did not stop it. All of this with them telling me they did all my changes. I went in to their office to add a teenage driver 2 weeks later and my paperwork from my previous changes was still sitting on the desk. Then they never could tell me a quote for my changes. I finally received the bill with the wrong coverages. I changed insurance companies before the due date of my premium. That should have been the end. However, they sent me the same bill and said it was to cover the changes that I had already paid for the previous month!! This is still unresolved. I will now change my homeowners insurance and tell everyone I know how bad nationwide is."

"We recently filed a claim on damage done on our car. They were quick to response and the work was finished in a few days. What I learned was don't wait till something happens to your car or home to find out what is covered in accidents of any kind. Ask the questions that are important to you like deductibles, wreck coverage, rental coverage etc and get them to example it to you in english instead of trying to read the insurance coverage information they send out. It really helps to know what is covered BEFORE you have any accidents and need that insurance coverage. Seems like we don't really know what kind of insurance we purchase until we need it. I learned a little after this accident and change by poilicy by $14.00 a month for a lot better coverage. Everyone should fit there insurance need to themselve and whats important to them. It helps to have a insurance agent that you are comfortable with, that is one reason we stay with Nationwide, they explain things and do things in a timely matter and that's important to me. I may could get insurance a little cheaper somewhere else but service also means a lot."

"My local agent patronized me while I was in need of help concerning an auto accident that was not my fault. He never offered me an explanation of how the process of filing a claim worked, never returned my calls (took me 3 days to actually speak with him concerning this matter), held conversations with others in his office, and checked his personal email (one of which was a negative "joke" concerning one of the presidential candidates that was offensive and he shared it with his co-workers). He has NOT been of any help in resolving this matter. As for the claims department, I'm still waiting to here some information regarding my claim (I'm now on business day 5) and I know no more than the day the accident happened (which was 7 days ago). I'm also being told that I can file a claim with Nationwide and pay my deductible up front then wait for compensation. This is not why a pay a high premium."

"We have had Nationwide for 14 years. This is yet another situation that has been regrettable with them. IKE damaged one bedroom, a small part of the roof, a fence and trees. We lost food and purchased a generator the 2nd day after we lost power. I called Nationwide to report the damages that we have. The storm occured Sept. 12-13. I reported on Sept.14th to Nationwide our damage. A apraiser after many calls came out on Sept. 27th. On Oct.5th I was called by another appraisal agent who infromed me he was making an appointment to assess our damage. Our experience with this man was far from congenial. It also turns out that we have a 2% deductable that had been imposed if a storm has a name! My agent convinced me to increase my insured amount just last year which yes, increased the deductabel. She did not tell me about the increase from $500 to $2772. After the duductable is subtracted we received.$2600.00 to redo a whole bedroom, replace a fence, repair the roof and take down a tree. They said all insurances are charging this 2% deductable. It really makes one feel secure to be insured."

Their web site had to be constructed by a kindergarten class. That is not said in a light tone, I design web sites and theirs is not even on the chart of 1-10....maybe a -5. You have anything other than a storm related HO claim and your rates will go up 25 percent. Have been with NW for 35 plus years, they are not on my side anymore. My agent is doing all he can, the people in Raleigh are not, but they use part time college kids now, who have very little training and do not stay there long. "I have been with Nationwide since 1985. They have been a great company, but the Agent is the most important factor with regard to filing claims and pricing. The most recent experience I had was disappointing, but easily resolved. My agent decided to retire, but did not tell anyone. I happen to notice the office was closed. I called the central office and they gave me an agent on the other side of town. I was able to get a better agent close to my home. Switching the agent was not trivial. First get a hard quote from the new agent. Signup for coverage to begin on a particular date. Cancel your current policy to end on the same date. I saved money ($240/yr) switching to a new agent in the same company."

"The home insurance is very high & continues to rise. Our premium has gone up $249 in less than 2 years w/no claims. We've only had one tiny claim since 1996. If you get a new roof, new heat pump or do electrical/plumbing improvements you need to inform your agent so you will be given credit--they don't tell you that beforehand. Our new heat pump installed this Jan. will reduce our premuim by about $58. I just found out that if we provide a receipt for the new roof on our house we can get another discount. Too bad we bought the house almost 2 yrs ago and the sellers put the new roof on. We've had good experiences with auto claims. However, because our sons (18 & 21) aren't the best drivers, we've paid hundreds of dollar out of pocket to prevent reporting incidents to the company. I'm currently getting quotes from Erie & Allstate. The thought of changing is scary after being w/the same agent who actually knows me by name for so long."

Hail damage claim: paid for damaged vents on roof, builders (3 different ones) all said there is significant damage and Nationwide keeps denying it. Last time adjuster was to meet with my contractor at 11:30 in the morning, he showed up at 3 pm, claimed he was tied up, went on the roof for 2 minutes, came down and said "that roof isn't leaking, it has two layers of singles." He then handed us off to a sub-contractor who eventually repaired drywall. Once we told the adjuster the estimate amount was not worth us filing for reimbursement, he never called back to check to see if we were at least satisfied with the repair or if he can do anything else to help us. They won't even give her the bluebook price of what her car was worth. She was bruised and batter and laid up for a week so the insurance company went and cleaned out the car without her permission and charged her $150 for the cleaning service and now they say we can't prove that she had anything lost in the crash because they threw it all away. She was hit from behind and the car was split in two. All they want to give her for the car is $4200 and the blue book price is $4500. No money to cover rental fees or items lost in the car. And the accident wasn't her fault. If you get hit by someone, pray that the person responsible for hitting you doesn't have the same insurance company as they just don't want to pay out anything, even when it wasn't your fault. Couldn't get any answers from the agent and asked to speak to the supervisor. He basically told me I didn't know anything and was very rude. He said to go to the Ohio Department of Transportation and read about the laws on the rental car. If you can find the reason NATIONWIDE won't pay for more than a week for a rental car under that web site let me know ..... all I found was the laws abouting building a highway. We are going to have to get a lawyer .... good luck if you have Nationwide ... you'll need it!"

"Over the last thirdteen years I have had 1 claim,a auto.A deer ran out in front of my Explorer causing damage to the front bumper, grill, header panel, headlight, valance panel, parking light and the hood. Nation Wide uses reconditioned and aftermarket parts they call it the Nationwide Parts Program-NWPP or the Nationwide Crash Parts Program-NWCPP. With all this being said they are not OEM part, but they will replace any defective like and quality(used) parts for as long as you own the vehicle. The problem is I took my vehicle to a(BLUE RIBBON Repair Center) a Ford Dealership . After about a week I went to pick up my Explorer and took it home late in the day.The next morning I drove to work and after finishing you daily dutys I went to look at the work. The tag bracket was missing, bumper was pointing down, header pandel had gaps on both sides, one side of the pandal had no paint on it, and the right side fender had two big dents in it. At this point I will say something good about the work. The grill looked good and the hood looked good except for the paint runs on them.So after sending the dealership and Nation Wide nine e-mails I was told to bring my SUV back. The next day I took it back and after showing the problems to them I was told that some people would think that the work was good and wouldn't have anything bad to say and because Nation Wide approved the uses of NWPP or NWCPP that the parts didn't always line up and may not ever line up. I understand that the dealership cann't make chickin soap out of chickin sh.. and that the money for the work is being payed my the insurance companys. But the people that pay for the insurance is people like me. I have had 2 claims on my home ( hail damage & hit by lighnting)where i was very satisfied with both claims, I just recently had to use their glass claims due to our vehicle having been shot. Safelite was came to our house and did an excellent job, Ist thing the next business day! Very pleased with them!"

"After a hail storm in 2001, my neighbors were still working with their insurance companies. The adjuster from Nationwide had been out, inspected my home and given me a check to perform the repairs to my roof, fence and gutters. "

"Only company I've been with, my parents and grandparents were with them since the 50's. However my parents decided to shop around and saved a significant amount moving all their policies to another company. I just think they're over priced. Of the two claims I've made they went smoothly. The thing I don't understand is what the actual agent does besides collect money. When you submit the claim you dial a 800 number and they take care of it."

"Nationwide practices illegal tie-in sales practices. They required me to drop Geico and purchase their auto insurance at much higher prices before they would insure my home. Then they dropped my homeowners, although I had no claims. No loyalty, shady business practices and an uncaring attitude mark this company. Avoid."

"They charge too much and continually increase rates on auto and homeowner policies. They have poor customer service and no loyalty to longterm customers. "

"We had a major hail storm with baseball size hail and larger, but nationwide will not repair my roof. Several estimates from roofers and Nationwide will only accept one company that works for them. Several other homes have already had their roofs replaced. Stay away from Nationwide!!!!!!!"

"Nationwide is NOT on my side! Their "Blue Ribbon" repair shop deal is a joke. I was rear-ended by an uninsured driver this month. I submitted my claim, and was steered to a blue ribbon repair shop, all the while being assured that I would be satisfied with the repair work, and that they would not stop until I was satisfied. However, the repair shop did not properly replace the bumper. The FIRST time I went to pick up my car, the "new" bumper was already damaged, the repair shop had painted it a different shade than the rest of my car, the "clearances" between the bumper and rest of the car were about 1 in. (which is ridiculous), the repair shop chipped paint off the newly painted bumper, and they chipped paint off the quarterpanel, which they were not supposed to even touch. I refused to accept this work. The SECOND time I went to pick up my car, the bumper was not aligned with the car (still) and the repair shop "blended" the paint onto the quarter panel, added a clear coat, to make the bumper blend with the car. Now the bumper and quarterpanels are a shade darker than the doors, trunk, and rest of the car. Nationwide's re-adjustor and my agent told me that Nationwide did not have to make paint match. Apparently, they just have to replace the bumper, and, in the words of both men, "bumpers never match; that's as good as its going to get." I asked why they couldn't blend the paint on the entire car and they told me that would cost too much money - Nationwide won't pay more than the bare minimum. I repeatedly asked about why they told me I would be satisfied over and over, but when I wasn't satisfied, they didn't care to resolve the issues. Both the re-adjustor and my (former) agent were RUDE and told me I was lucky they did anything at all. I just wanted to be put in the position I was in before someone hit my car. That's all - no more, no less. If the paint doesn't match, the car is still damaged. Nationwide doesn't see it that way. I feel that Nationwide colludes with its blue ribbon repair shops to do shoddy work in a quick amount of time to save money. I think their practices are deceptive, in that they advertise customer satisfaction, but don't really care to comply. "

"I was hit by a drunk driver insured by Nationwide and they denied my claim. This in spite of the fact that the drunk driver was arrested and listed as the at-fault driver and police found an open bottle of liquor in a brown paper bag stashed under his front seat. So guess what? Nationwide didn't pay a cent to anyone. It's the worst insurance company in the nation."

"I have been with nationwide for 36 years. I only had to use them a few times in all these years. I was hit in the rear twice and hit head on and totaled my car in April. T.B. that works for nationwide was the rudest medical person I have ever dealt with. Because I was not completely well within the 3-6months they allow to get well they wanted me turned over to MES. She would call me at work and say things like don't use up all your money or maybe you better see one of our guys. When are you going to be released she would hound me at work continuosly. Then she would tell my agent she never said to me I did not tell you that she could not use up all her Medical Money. In the meantime I have paid medical for 36 years and when I need to use them they same as said you get well in 3 months or no insurance. Why have I been paying them for 36 years. I am definietly looking for another insurance. My family of 11 have been with Nationwide for years but we no longer will be with Nationwide anymore. Also she would call the Dr. and say you better release her or else. "

"I'm sure this is the way with all the moneybrokers, but after filing a claim my rates went up. And after not having a ticket in twenty-five years, I got a speeding ticket, they raised my rates. Insurance companies are all rip-offs. They take your money as long as they don't have to pay anything out and as soon as they do, they try there damnedest to not pay and then raise your rates."

"Nationwide auto insurance was fine but the home insurance was a total waste. Had policies with them for 37 years and no claims when we had hail damage they refused to pay. The employee that notified us actually laughed and made a joke about it. Our agent tried to help but got nowhere."

"When I purchased a new car I immediately called and added the vehicle to my policy. I asked my agent AT THAT TIME, the amount I needed to send in to cover the increase in costs. I deployed and did not keep up with my mail for two months. When I returned (After paying the premiums I was told by my agent would be needed) my insurance had lapsed. When I confronted my agent they denied ever telling me the cost of the additional vehicle. Even when I showed them that I had increased my monthly payments to cover the new vehicle (based on what they told me to pay) they still denied responsibility. I had to pay fees to the state for allowing my covereage to lapse. "

"Auto claim adjuster was switched mid-claim. New adjuster impossible to reach, and when finally met in person, had a attitude as he was doing the customer a favor. When I tried to give adjuster accident evidence, refused it saying he was starting vacation and another department would be contacting me. They never did, a I finally called 6 or 7 numbers at the main office. My broker was useless, as he said he is not part of the claims operation. Guess he is just there to write policy and collect your money. When the company contacted me later, it was with an employee that has English as a second language. Still waiting for that persons findings 2 and a half weeks later. JUST don't be later with the premiums or the real power of nationwide kicks in and will reek havoc with your mind."

"So far, I felt the rates were comparable but I've bought another, newer car and did some shopping. Safeco was the cheapest, then Allstate but after reading these reviews, I think I'll stay with Nationwide. The grass is not greener and cheaper doesn't mean better."

"I have had this insurance company for 15 years. We are building a house which was broken into and power tools and building material was stolen. We specifically asked our agent when we took out the policy when we were building if we were covered for theft and we were assured we were. Now they are claiming that it is not covered because we aren't living in the house yet. "
