"They charge too much and continually increase rates on auto and homeowner policies. They have poor customer service and no loyalty to longterm customers. "

"My problems started when I sold my old car and tried to get Nationwide to put the replacement car on my policy. At that, they started deluging me with one revised policy after the other (each one with a higher rate than the one before). Finally they demanded that, in order to continue insuring me, I would have to write a letter explaining to their satisfaction how I was insuring the replacement car PRIOR TO THE DATE THAT I BOUGHT IT!! (Like I'm in the habit of insuring unsold used cars in dealer's lots all over the country just for the fun of it.) That was the last straw. I gave up, canceled the policy and went with another company that at least had a minimum of COMMON SENSE. "

"We had Nationwide for a year and a half before my wife had a wreck and we had to make a claim. Our agent was wonderful, but the claims adjuster was ridiculous. Somewhere along the way he just stopped paying all of our COVERED medical expenses...we started getting deliquency letters from companies for $35 and $200. After two months of constant conversation and complaining with our agent, they told me that our case had been moved to another person and the adjuster had been fired. All we got was an apology from our agent. In my mind, they should have given us some sort of discount or something. We paid every premium on time and were loyal customers. We received over 5 deliquency letters in the mail from debt collectors. In the end they were all taken care of...but what are we paying all this money for if not to be taken care of properly!"

"I learned that I am suppose to have the contractor negociate with the adjuster a repair fee after damage to my house. My contractor never heard of such a thing and said that his price was fair and would not lower it. "
2007-06-30 08:52:07 EST

"I was getting ripped off by my contractor. My adjuser went in and was able to show where my contractor, who swore up and down that he was giving a fair price, charged for things he never even touched. Was able to negotiate a fair price. He even brought us flowers at the end of the experience to wish us well. I'll never leave!"

"I have had this insurance company for 15 years. We are building a house which was broken into and power tools and building material was stolen. We specifically asked our agent when we took out the policy when we were building if we were covered for theft and we were assured we were. Now they are claiming that it is not covered because we aren't living in the house yet. "

"My agent and staff has the best customer services for his clients. Here in North Carolina they are true by their logo - they are on your side."
2007-08-01 18:48:31 EST

"I have been very satisfied with Nationwide, but I have not had to file a claim yet; I may feel differently once I have to do that."
2007-08-06 16:34:20 EST

"Agent never corresponds with me Homeowners Policy keeps changing...just a few sheets from a word processor Raised my Umbrella Policy $100/ year ..3 years in a row.! No claims made"
2007-08-08 19:49:03 EST

"poor customer service, only cared about their almighty dollar."
2007-08-20 05:46:04 EST

"So far, I felt the rates were comparable but I've bought another, newer car and did some shopping. Safeco was the cheapest, then Allstate but after reading these reviews, I think I'll stay with Nationwide. The grass is not greener and cheaper doesn't mean better."
2007-08-21 16:05:58 EST

"Excellent customer service - I've had multiple changes on multiple policies and the phone reps have always been exceptional. "

"Auto claim adjuster was switched mid-claim. New adjuster impossible to reach, and when finally met in person, had a attitude as he was doing the customer a favor. When I tried to give adjuster accident evidence, refused it saying he was starting vacation and another department would be contacting me. They never did, a I finally called 6 or 7 numbers at the main office. My broker was useless, as he said he is not part of the claims operation. Guess he is just there to write policy and collect your money. When the company contacted me later, it was with an employee that has English as a second language. Still waiting for that persons findings 2 and a half weeks later. JUST don't be later with the premiums or the real power of nationwide kicks in and will reek havoc with your mind."

"When I purchased a new car I immediately called and added the vehicle to my policy. I asked my agent AT THAT TIME, the amount I needed to send in to cover the increase in costs. I deployed and did not keep up with my mail for two months. When I returned (After paying the premiums I was told by my agent would be needed) my insurance had lapsed. When I confronted my agent they denied ever telling me the cost of the additional vehicle. Even when I showed them that I had increased my monthly payments to cover the new vehicle (based on what they told me to pay) they still denied responsibility. I had to pay fees to the state for allowing my covereage to lapse. "

"Nationwide auto insurance was fine but the home insurance was a total waste. Had policies with them for 37 years and no claims when we had hail damage they refused to pay. The employee that notified us actually laughed and made a joke about it. Our agent tried to help but got nowhere."
2007-10-02 15:25:12 EST

"I'm sure this is the way with all the moneybrokers, but after filing a claim my rates went up. And after not having a ticket in twenty-five years, I got a speeding ticket, they raised my rates. Insurance companies are all rip-offs. They take your money as long as they don't have to pay anything out and as soon as they do, they try there damnedest to not pay and then raise your rates."
2007-10-03 15:40:45 EST

"Expensive insurance, had to pay deductible even when the other person was at fault, inattention to detail by the adjuster."
2007-10-11 17:37:20 EST

"Nationwide of Florida is a BIG JOKE. They send in people to review your home now. It is called The Home Care Review and if you refuse they cancel your policy. Is that legal? According to The State of Florida's Insurance Commission this is unheard of. Well, it is when they cancel your policy!! If I have the State compile a "complaint," will they still cancel me or do we toss the dice and let them into our home and hope they still have not canceled our policy in time to go over to Citizens Insurance, which is not made for that purpose! Over 4 years with Nationwide in another State and 15 years with them in Florida! All they have do cover in Florida is FIRE, NO WINDSTORM OR FLOOD INSURANCE ANY LONGER, BUT THEY WANT YOUR AUTO INS.! Nationwide is on my side I do not think so!"

"I have been with nationwide for 36 years. I only had to use them a few times in all these years. I was hit in the rear twice and hit head on and totaled my car in April. T.B. that works for nationwide was the rudest medical person I have ever dealt with. Because I was not completely well within the 3-6months they allow to get well they wanted me turned over to MES. She would call me at work and say things like don't use up all your money or maybe you better see one of our guys. When are you going to be released she would hound me at work continuosly. Then she would tell my agent she never said to me I did not tell you that she could not use up all her Medical Money. In the meantime I have paid medical for 36 years and when I need to use them they same as said you get well in 3 months or no insurance. Why have I been paying them for 36 years. I am definietly looking for another insurance. My family of 11 have been with Nationwide for years but we no longer will be with Nationwide anymore. Also she would call the Dr. and say you better release her or else. "

"I was hit by a drunk driver insured by Nationwide and they denied my claim. This in spite of the fact that the drunk driver was arrested and listed as the at-fault driver and police found an open bottle of liquor in a brown paper bag stashed under his front seat. So guess what? Nationwide didn't pay a cent to anyone. It's the worst insurance company in the nation."
2007-10-23 20:07:02 EST

"Nationwide is NOT on my side! Their "Blue Ribbon" repair shop deal is a joke. I was rear-ended by an uninsured driver this month. I submitted my claim, and was steered to a blue ribbon repair shop, all the while being assured that I would be satisfied with the repair work, and that they would not stop until I was satisfied. However, the repair shop did not properly replace the bumper. The FIRST time I went to pick up my car, the "new" bumper was already damaged, the repair shop had painted it a different shade than the rest of my car, the "clearances" between the bumper and rest of the car were about 1 in. (which is ridiculous), the repair shop chipped paint off the newly painted bumper, and they chipped paint off the quarterpanel, which they were not supposed to even touch. I refused to accept this work. The SECOND time I went to pick up my car, the bumper was not aligned with the car (still) and the repair shop "blended" the paint onto the quarter panel, added a clear coat, to make the bumper blend with the car. Now the bumper and quarterpanels are a shade darker than the doors, trunk, and rest of the car. Nationwide's re-adjustor and my agent told me that Nationwide did not have to make paint match. Apparently, they just have to replace the bumper, and, in the words of both men, "bumpers never match; that's as good as its going to get." I asked why they couldn't blend the paint on the entire car and they told me that would cost too much money - Nationwide won't pay more than the bare minimum. I repeatedly asked about why they told me I would be satisfied over and over, but when I wasn't satisfied, they didn't care to resolve the issues. Both the re-adjustor and my (former) agent were RUDE and told me I was lucky they did anything at all. I just wanted to be put in the position I was in before someone hit my car. That's all - no more, no less. If the paint doesn't match, the car is still damaged. Nationwide doesn't see it that way. I feel that Nationwide colludes with its blue ribbon repair shops to do shoddy work in a quick amount of time to save money. I think their practices are deceptive, in that they advertise customer satisfaction, but don't really care to comply. "
2007-10-25 11:57:08 EST

"Extremly good company to get insurance from. Settled the claim very next day. Nothing could be much better than that. Premium was too hogh so have to go with someother insurance company."
2007-10-26 19:57:23 EST

"We had a major hail storm with baseball size hail and larger, but nationwide will not repair my roof. Several estimates from roofers and Nationwide will only accept one company that works for them. Several other homes have already had their roofs replaced. Stay away from Nationwide!!!!!!!"
2007-11-13 22:18:19 EST

"Nationwide practices illegal tie-in sales practices. They required me to drop Geico and purchase their auto insurance at much higher prices before they would insure my home. Then they dropped my homeowners, although I had no claims. No loyalty, shady business practices and an uncaring attitude mark this company. Avoid."
2007-11-28 06:23:59 EST

"Only company I've been with, my parents and grandparents were with them since the 50's. However my parents decided to shop around and saved a significant amount moving all their policies to another company. I just think they're over priced. Of the two claims I've made they went smoothly. The thing I don't understand is what the actual agent does besides collect money. When you submit the claim you dial a 800 number and they take care of it."
2007-11-29 18:44:25 EST

"horrible, unsafe collision repair policies.will not put origonal manufacturer parts on my car only inferior parts from tiawan"
2007-12-01 00:06:24 EST

"bad business if you need them will not help at all."
2007-12-05 21:18:47 EST

"Love 'em!"
2007-12-07 22:41:59 EST

"After a hail storm in 2001, my neighbors were still working with their insurance companies. The adjuster from Nationwide had been out, inspected my home and given me a check to perform the repairs to my roof, fence and gutters. "
2007-12-10 19:09:20 EST

"First claim for emergency towing was settled quick and easy. Last claim they had dropped the coverage without telling me so I didn't realize I was not covered."
2007-12-12 13:47:57 EST

"I had a collision claim on my vehicle 7 years ago that went way bad, Mostly due to their direct repairer. They just botch every thing on a 6 month old car. I have had 2 claims on my home ( hail damage & hit by lighnting)where i was very satisfied with both claims, I just recently had to use their glass claims due to our vehicle having been shot. Safelite was came to our house and did an excellent job, Ist thing the next business day! Very pleased with them!"
2007-12-18 10:05:31 EST

"Rates are climbing much faster than my income. Agent NEVER calls me. Every year my premiums are massively increased.! I'm looking for a better deal in 2008"
2007-12-18 20:22:35 EST

"Over the last thirdteen years I have had 1 claim,a auto.A deer ran out in front of my Explorer causing damage to the front bumper, grill, header panel, headlight, valance panel, parking light and the hood. Nation Wide uses reconditioned and aftermarket parts they call it the Nationwide Parts Program-NWPP or the Nationwide Crash Parts Program-NWCPP. With all this being said they are not OEM part, but they will replace any defective like and quality(used) parts for as long as you own the vehicle. The problem is I took my vehicle to a(BLUE RIBBON Repair Center) a Ford Dealership . After about a week I went to pick up my Explorer and took it home late in the day.The next morning I drove to work and after finishing you daily dutys I went to look at the work. The tag bracket was missing, bumper was pointing down, header pandel had gaps on both sides, one side of the pandal had no paint on it, and the right side fender had two big dents in it. At this point I will say something good about the work. The grill looked good and the hood looked good except for the paint runs on them.So after sending the dealership and Nation Wide nine e-mails I was told to bring my SUV back. The next day I took it back and after showing the problems to them I was told that some people would think that the work was good and wouldn't have anything bad to say and because Nation Wide approved the uses of NWPP or NWCPP that the parts didn't always line up and may not ever line up. I understand that the dealership cann't make chickin soap out of chickin sh.. and that the money for the work is being payed my the insurance companys. But the people that pay for the insurance is people like me. IN MY MIND THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND IN MY MIND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FIGHT WITH THE REPAIR SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
2007-12-26 14:38:40 EST

"Get quotes from other companies...you will see how unreasonable Nationwide is. I saved $1700 a year, yes seventeen hundred dollars a year in switching. They are the king of aftermarket parts useage and many body shops will refuse to work on Nationwide vehicles. They are horrible to work with and are being sued by tons of individuals and groups. They are also the king of Insurnace Department complaints...go away, far away from Nationwide. "
2008-01-04 19:14:37 EST

"A suicide took place in a bathroom and the body deteriorated, causing extensive damage to the room. Although the homeowners policy covered "bio-hazard cleanup", the company twisted its definitions and denied coverage. "
2008-01-13 17:40:31 EST

"I had been a policy holder for 20 years and at one point I lapsed on my payment. No emails, no letters, no calls where ever attempted to check with me before canceling the policy and I drove around for several months with no coverage. When I got into an accident and called they told me I am no longer covered and really could care less and did not even bother to try and explain why they never tried to contact a long term policy holder. To reinstate me would cost 4 times what I was paying. So to me it seemed a good excuse to remove a long term policy holder with reduced long term rates and than bring me back for much much more. I will never go back to nationwide or use them and they now excessive rates. "
2008-01-29 19:27:34 EST

"I filed a claim with NW insurance..The policy holder was at fault for accident, that's why I filed with NW. What a nightmare from day 1. My witness was not called until I had to prove it was on the police report, no one went to inspect my car for 15 days, the supv was annoyed that I contacted her. etc etc etc (I will tell everyone I can,not to purchase any insurance with Nationwide."
2008-01-30 02:24:26 EST

"ON home up north service was great! In Florida, continually raised rates and dropped long term customers. The were not on you side ever. Be wise, shop around, select a carriere that is State based, and raited by the State, but do not select Nationwide, as they have zero loyality to long term customers!"

2008-02-19 13:48:26 EST

"Do not go with Nationwide. They have terrible business practices and rescinded our insurance when we put in a claim. Run the other direction or get a good lawyer."
2008-02-21 19:16:00 EST

"They are prompt with insurance claims, they are extremely informative, I can call them with insurance questions not pertaining to my policies and they go out of their way to help me find the answers or a soultion. I know Nationwide cost a little more but it is well worth not having the frustration of dealing with these cheeper insurance companies that try not to take ownership of their clients accidents. In 9 years I have never been let down by Nationwide. "
2008-07-09 21:23:28 EST

"Insurance Companies across the board are killing the recovery of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On a $250,000 home we are paying $3,900.00 for wind and hail, $1,500 for fire and theft and $320.00 for flood. We had NO damage in Katrina so why did our rate go up???? Plus we are paying $2,500 in property taxes per year. That is a grand total of $8,220 per year for T&I for a monthly payment of $685. How can these criminal destroy detroyed lives even more. I hope one day they will answer for their crimes against devasted people!!! Maybe not in this life but I have a firm belief they will in their next!!!!!!!!!"

"Daughter's car demolished by another person who also has Nationwide insurance. They will not pay but one week car rental, will not pay for all the items she had in the car which were destroyed. They won't even give her the bluebook price of what her car was worth. She was bruised and batter and laid up for a week so the insurance company went and cleaned out the car without her permission and charged her $150 for the cleaning service and now they say we can't prove that she had anything lost in the crash because they threw it all away. She was hit from behind and the car was split in two. All they want to give her for the car is $4200 and the blue book price is $4500. No money to cover rental fees or items lost in the car. And the accident wasn't her fault. If you get hit by someone, pray that the person responsible for hitting you doesn't have the same insurance company as they just don't want to pay out anything, even when it wasn't your fault. Couldn't get any answers from the agent and asked to speak to the supervisor. He basically told me I didn't know anything and was very rude. He said to go to the Ohio Department of Transportation and read about the laws on the rental car. If you can find the reason NATIONWIDE won't pay for more than a week for a rental car under that web site let me know ..... all I found was the laws abouting building a highway. We are going to have to get a lawyer .... good luck if you have Nationwide ... you'll need it!"

"My car was stolen exactly a month ago. It was recovered the same day, but unfortunately the thief loss control of the car and he/she crashed it into a tree. My vehicle was totaled. I had full coverage, liability, etc. Being that i am only 19 years old and could not get a rental car from the company they chose, i had to pay for my own rental car. Even though i was paying for rental with my insurance plan. I had to get the police reports, find a way to get my stuff out of the car about 50 miles from where i live, do interview after interview with nationwide representatives, etc. Today, a month from the incident, someone called me to give me an estimate. It was $2000 short from how much the car originally cost. So now i owe the lean holder and i still don't have a car. Nationwide Sucks!"
2008-03-17 16:01:13 EST

"my car caught on fire and i had full covers and they did not even want to pay for the blue book price what they want to pay leaves me with 7,000 more to pay on my car that i dont even have any more i dont know why we even need full cover if full cover dose mean anything i always thought full cover mean full cover it takes care of ever thing they even made me run around and get all the paper work for the car and they didnt even pay me for the car value the low ball me"

"I was an employee for Nationwide insurance Company and I am now on long term disability. I have a disability benefits package that continues to pay for my employee medical coverage. (whatever I had at the time of my disability) I was notified to file for medicare benefits becuase I was eligble and they would reimburse me for premiums. They never reimbursed me, then signed me up with a mediocre medicare D plan for prescription coverage. I got a monthly bill for that coverage. Presently I was sighned up with a medicareadvantage plan that cost me a $25.00 co-pay for office visits. I now pay $121.oo for better medicare D insurance that will continue to pay during "gap". I have gone from having all my medical insurance paid by my employer Nationwide (self insured) while on Long Term Disability to now paying amedicare B premium and and Medicare D premium as high as the medicare B premium for decent coverage. Add that to copay office visits and the cost of my medicines and I am now spending over $400.00 per month in out of pocket expence for my health care that is alledgedly to have been continued by my employer paying the premiums. Is there anything I can do to have this matter looked into?"
2008-03-22 07:10:27 EST

"Nationwide raises the homeowners policy approximately 25% without a notice or comment regarding why the price increased."
2008-04-03 15:28:09 EST

"Beware Beware Beware This co. is nbeleiveable they lie to you on the phune or will not even talk to you also the siu investigators are not to be trusted they will fabricate so called evidence and lie to people to try and grt them on their side Try to make accidents into something totally opposite we will see what a jury thinks when thy here this unbelieveable nightmare!!!!!"
2009-02-02 11:00:31 EST

"After 25+ years of paying premiums, we've been notified that Nationwide has decided to drop our home insurance. I recall only one claim in the 90's out of all those years, and now we are being dropped. Just unbelieveable that Nationwide can get away with this."
2008-04-04 21:17:43 EST

"Premium keeps increasing despite of never filing a claim over decades of being customer. Alternative quotes from main competitors are 1/3 to 1/2 lower for equivalent coverage. They did the same with my auto insurance years ago until I switched. Their loss in both cases. "
2008-04-15 01:45:10 EST

"In the Northwest, the adjuster is from Allied...so beware. Once the estimate was given and referring a contractor, we were basically on our own. The referring contractor gave us an estimate. He then handed us off to a sub-contractor who eventually repaired drywall. Once we told the adjuster the estimate amount was not worth us filing for reimbursement, he never called back to check to see if we were at least satisfied with the repair or if he can do anything else to help us. We are in the process canceling our policy and going with someone else. Less and hopefully more "service oriented". "
2008-04-17 16:43:38 EST

"After 25 years with Nationwide -- I am very unsatisfied. Another person with Nationwide insurance hit my auto and Nationwide refuses to pay fair settlement without a fight. Nationwide is NOT ON YOUR SIDE. I know from personal experience. My 26th year will be with another company!!! "
2008-04-22 18:29:04 EST

"they charge too much"
2008-05-12 19:13:14 EST

"after two decades of paying home, cars, and boat insurance with them promptly, i would imagine that i had establed credit worthiness. However, they increased our rate and stated our credit score. Ironically, i have less debt than i ever have had and pay all my bills. "
2008-05-13 15:10:00 EST

"Nationwide re-evaluated the protection class this year and now we live in a more unsafe area for fire protection. Our house is still in the same spot, same distance from the fire department, but now we pay $200 more because they decided to re-classify. I think this is a way to raise the rates of people who have never had a claim."
2008-05-16 12:25:50 EST

"When I called to cancel my insurance, my agent hung up on my twice. I realize that the agent may be a little disappointed about the cancellation, but they still need to be professional. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised though because it just falls in line with all of the other reasons that led me to cancel in the first place! Just icing on the cake!"
2008-05-19 12:08:44 EST

"I had accident on may 16th 2008. they delay to send my check. I called claim center, rood, unprofessional and harsh customer service. She refused to connect me to her manager. They do not want send me the check under my name and pressuring me to take my car to their shop. I did not had this problem with ALLSTATE INSURANCE. I will take my business some were else. For last 4 days they stressed me so much that i can't sleep at night!!!!!! If you are looking for stress NATIONWIDE INSURANCE is best place to go!!! "
2008-05-23 14:58:10 EST

"Bought a second house could not get the agent to send a bill for closing numbers. They finally did and when I received to insurance papers they showed two policies on the same house. They made it sound like it was my fault.I went to another carrier and my over all rates dropped 1,500.00"
2008-05-31 13:08:01 EST

"Pay your claims!"
2008-06-02 06:22:55 EST

"My auto was involved in a hit and run accident. I took the car to one of their BLUE RIBBON repair shops which assured me they would perform quality work on my car and I was told as long as own the car they would repair it. NOT SO!!!! Nationwide is the worst! The adjustors are rude and unprofessional. Something has to be done about this company because they are liars. I understand looking out for the best interest of the company but Nationwide Employees are the worst!!!"
2008-06-24 14:22:22 EST

"Alot depends on the Agent you go with. My Agent was responsive to questions whenever I had one. I had one claim, from hail damage to my house roof. They sent an estimator out and he was knowledgable about hail damage here in Texas. The estimate to fix the entire roof was well within 3 estimates I got from roofers in the area. Nationwide paid promptly and I got the roof repaired within two weeks of the claim. Now for the not so good comments: PRICE After nearly 15 years being with Nationwide, I learned from shopping around that I was being overcharged by 30% or more for car insurance (I had home and cars in a package). Home insurance was adequate but others offered more coverage for the same coverage from Nationwide in my area. I have a small trailer insured, too. Cost to insure from Natiowide was double what others offered. I went to JD Powers survey of insurance and selected the top 5 to call and get quotes from. I chose the top ranking insurer because of their price, repuation, and prompt access, not to mention that I am now saving almost $1300 per year over Nationwide. If Nationwide would have offered me a better price for my cars, and trailer I would not have found a reason to look elesewhere. Home policy was adequate but over priced for the coverage I had. I was told by Nationwide that the charge higher becuase they are a Country Mutual, not a Mutual insurer . . and could not get an explaination beyond that. Sorry Nationwide, you could have saved a customer."

"tornado claim: Adjuster told me I had to pay two deductibles - one for the outside damage and one for the inside damage, all for the same tornado - inside damage has never been fixed, and they just don't care. They told me they don't like people with $250 deductibles. How about that? Hail damage claim: paid for damaged vents on roof, builders (3 different ones) all said there is significant damage and Nationwide keeps denying it. Last time adjuster was to meet with my contractor at 11:30 in the morning, he showed up at 3 pm, claimed he was tied up, went on the roof for 2 minutes, came down and said "that roof isn't leaking, it has two layers of singles." He went in his truck and took a pre-printed denial letter off the seat and gave it to me. (My roof has only one layer of shingles) Very poor service!!!"

"When we first signed up with Nationwide we informed them we operated a reptile rescue on a farm in the country. They acknowledged and stated it was not a problem. That was in 2003. Subsequently to that, each year they levied new requirements on us, demanding that we eliminate one class of animal after another, each time threatening to cancel our insurance. We finally gave up and closed the rescue after going around and around with them. I still have a few snakes and they just cancelled us AGAIN, even after saying it was okay to have them. I am amazed at the number of lies, half truths and changing policy requirements we have experienced with this company."

"The home insurance is very high & continues to rise. Our premium has gone up $249 in less than 2 years w/no claims. We've only had one tiny claim since 1996. If you get a new roof, new heat pump or do electrical/plumbing improvements you need to inform your agent so you will be given credit--they don't tell you that beforehand. Our new heat pump installed this Jan. will reduce our premuim by about $58. I just found out that if we provide a receipt for the new roof on our house we can get another discount. Too bad we bought the house almost 2 yrs ago and the sellers put the new roof on. We've had good experiences with auto claims. However, because our sons (18 & 21) aren't the best drivers, we've paid hundreds of dollar out of pocket to prevent reporting incidents to the company. I'm currently getting quotes from Erie & Allstate. The thought of changing is scary after being w/the same agent who actually knows me by name for so long."

"I have been with Nationwide since 1985. They have been a great company, but the Agent is the most important factor with regard to filing claims and pricing. The most recent experience I had was disappointing, but easily resolved. My agent decided to retire, but did not tell anyone. I happen to notice the office was closed. I called the central office and they gave me an agent on the other side of town. I was able to get a better agent close to my home. Switching the agent was not trivial. First get a hard quote from the new agent. Signup for coverage to begin on a particular date. Cancel your current policy to end on the same date. I saved money ($240/yr) switching to a new agent in the same company."

"They are running software that is older than the kids using it....put the two together and it is a disaster. Right now I am fighting through homeowners renewal hell for the second year. Their web site had to be constructed by a kindergarten class. That is not said in a light tone, I design web sites and theirs is not even on the chart of 1-10....maybe a -5. You have anything other than a storm related HO claim and your rates will go up 25 percent. Have been with NW for 35 plus years, they are not on my side anymore. My agent is doing all he can, the people in Raleigh are not, but they use part time college kids now, who have very little training and do not stay there long. The employees who knew anything are all gone. Since going public, this company does not care about it's customers, just the bottom line."

"My local agent patronized me while I was in need of help concerning an auto accident that was not my fault. He never offered me an explanation of how the process of filing a claim worked, never returned my calls (took me 3 days to actually speak with him concerning this matter), held conversations with others in his office, and checked his personal email (one of which was a negative "joke" concerning one of the presidential candidates that was offensive and he shared it with his co-workers). He has NOT been of any help in resolving this matter. As for the claims department, I'm still waiting to here some information regarding my claim (I'm now on business day 5) and I know no more than the day the accident happened (which was 7 days ago). I'm also being told that I can file a claim with Nationwide and pay my deductible up front then wait for compensation. This is not why a pay a high premium."

"Athough we have a 1% deductible it turns out that if here is a hurricane there is actually a 2% deductible! Surprise! Also, they want to patch our roof rather than repair it. When I talked to the agent they gave me an 800 numbr. Thanks for your help!"

"We have had Nationwide for 14 years. This is yet another situation that has been regrettable with them. IKE damaged one bedroom, a small part of the roof, a fence and trees. We lost food and purchased a generator the 2nd day after we lost power. I called Nationwide to report the damages that we have. The storm occured Sept. 12-13. I reported on Sept.14th to Nationwide our damage. A apraiser after many calls came out on Sept. 27th. On Oct.5th I was called by another appraisal agent who infromed me he was making an appointment to assess our damage. Our experience with this man was far from congenial. It also turns out that we have a 2% deductable that had been imposed if a storm has a name! My agent convinced me to increase my insured amount just last year which yes, increased the deductabel. She did not tell me about the increase from $500 to $2772. After the duductable is subtracted we received.$2600.00 to redo a whole bedroom, replace a fence, repair the roof and take down a tree. They said all insurances are charging this 2% deductable. It really makes one feel secure to be insured."

"We recently filed a claim on damage done on our car. They were quick to response and the work was finished in a few days. What I learned was don't wait till something happens to your car or home to find out what is covered in accidents of any kind. Ask the questions that are important to you like deductibles, wreck coverage, rental coverage etc and get them to example it to you in english instead of trying to read the insurance coverage information they send out. It really helps to know what is covered BEFORE you have any accidents and need that insurance coverage. Seems like we don't really know what kind of insurance we purchase until we need it. I learned a little after this accident and change by poilicy by $14.00 a month for a lot better coverage. Everyone should fit there insurance need to themselve and whats important to them. It helps to have a insurance agent that you are comfortable with, that is one reason we stay with Nationwide, they explain things and do things in a timely matter and that's important to me. I may could get insurance a little cheaper somewhere else but service also means a lot."

"they raised my replacement value after hurricane ike without bothering to tell me. now my hurricane ike claim is based upon there replacement value. they did this without my permission as i had a current homeowners policy in place. my agent's office staff said i was welcome to change agents when i questioned there ability to change the terms of my policy. regional office would not talk to me as i had an outstanding claim. after this 1 and only claim, i'm looking for a better company. what a joke of a company. "

"Be very careful if you make changes to your policy. I made changes over the phone. they did not make the changes properly. I called to stop the payment from coming out of my checking account and they did not stop it. All of this with them telling me they did all my changes. I went in to their office to add a teenage driver 2 weeks later and my paperwork from my previous changes was still sitting on the desk. Then they never could tell me a quote for my changes. I finally received the bill with the wrong coverages. I changed insurance companies before the due date of my premium. That should have been the end. However, they sent me the same bill and said it was to cover the changes that I had already paid for the previous month!! This is still unresolved. I will now change my homeowners insurance and tell everyone I know how bad nationwide is."

"We had a wind storm in our area. This resulted in wind damage to our roof. We called Nationwide and they had one of their adjusters come out to estimate the damage. He gave us a $161.37 check, $350 for food and $311.37 for the roof (electricity went out and some food went bad). There were 4 shingles that came completely off and Nationwide said they would fix those. The reason for not fixing the other shingles that were lifted up and damaged was due to improper installation. They came to this conclusion by looking at one shingle that had one nail in the wrong place. Why fix the other shingles that came off then? Never got an answer for that. I had 2 roofing companies come out and show me where we had wind damage. I received an estimate of around $3,000 to fix it. That $100 check is really going to help. I argued with the adjuster on the phone and he finally asked me "what do you want us to do?" I told them that I wanted another adjuster to come out with my roofing guy and come to an agreement on what needs to be fixed due to wind damage. The guy on the phone actually said "Well, I would rather go ahead and do the backside of your house because it would cost me more money to send another adjuster out". Evidence right there that all of their decisions are based on money and not what is truely damaged. I don't have an outcome from all of this as I am still fighting with them. Once I am done, I will be changing companies."

"My son accidentially rear ended his friends car. We told our friends that we were sorry and would take care of the problem. We found nationwide to be very difficult. They refused to fix the electronic antenna, which was damaged by the accident, and was in the section that was hit. They told our friend, that they needed to pick up the car though not complete, or they would be billed for the rental car within two hours. They were five hours away. I was very embarressed for the company that represented us."

"I have been insured with Nationwide since 1998. I have had to report two claims. In one of the claims, I was rear ended by an Uninsured Drunk Driver at about 9 am. It took a while for Nationwide to determine that the other party had no insurance because the driver of the vehicle was not the owner of the vehicle and Nationwide was active in trying to contact both, but neither would return phone calls, etc. As soon as it was determined there was no insurance, my car was in the shop and got the proper repairs. I used a Blue Ribbon Shop and had a wonderful experience. My second claim was a Towing/Labor claim. My daughter locked the keys in the truck. I had someone come out to open the car, I submitted the bill to Nationwide via fax and had the refund in hand in less than a week. I have always had prompt Service from knowledgable, kind Service Agents when dealing direct with the company. I do not have a local agent, but have done business direct with Nationwide."

"Nationwide is fine is you are a single, childless, no frills person, which is what my husband was before we got married. Don't get Nationwide if you have teenagers. I bought my daughter a car and put it in her name. Because she lived with us at the time and I was covered under my husband's insurance, not only did she have to have her individual policy, but she is also covered under us. Basically we are getting double billed. When I complained about this, I was told that this is the policy in Texas. Not true. I researched it and, plus I never had this problem with GEICO or State Farm. It is Nationwide's policy. I didn't cancel it because it is tied into our home insurance and since we have a new construction, we got a great deal. Now, my daughter has moved out, lives 7 hours away and has her own insurance, but when we tried to have her removed, we have been asked to provide five to six different kinds of proof. Frankly, I believe that we are paying the carrier and they work for us, not the other way around. How dare an insurance company tell me how we should run our personal business. I am very disappointed in Nationwide. They may be cheaper than other insurance carrier, but they make you jump through all kinds of hoops and the inconvenience just isn't worth saving a few bucks. As soon as our policy is up, I plan on switching back to Geico, I was very happy with them."

"We are more than 10 year with Nationwide.I didn't know we had a hailstorm 9 mo's ago .Nationwide adjuster came and found hail damage, but said she could not pay for it because the hail storm was more than 6 months ago.I said we were out of town how do I know. Our agent office is very close. He should have warned his customers. Answer: If roofing companies knock at your door, that's how you find out. The roofing agent said he didn't know Nationwide is the only one that had changed the time limit to 6 mo's to file a claim. He was replacing several roofs for hail around our house. I think it's pure theft. We are taking our home and cars elsewhere. "

"One little report to Nationwide about a car door hitting another one and I had to fight for myself instead of Nationwide representing me after all these years with this company(Never had a claim or accident). I had to raise heck with Nationwide to get them to do anything about the lady who's car door I hit. This person was trying to take me to the cleaners for a door dent."
2008-11-12 19:34:00 EST

"I had a tree fall on my house, so I called Nationwide to see if they knew anyone who could come out on short notice to remove the tree (it was the 3rd of July). I was having problems finding anyone in my area, because of the storm damage to the area. I was told by Nationwide that they would have a contractor call me that could remove the tree. (This was about noon on the 3rd) So I waited and waited, but no one ever called. So I called them back and the person on the other end was no help at all. Told me that I better find someone, because it wasn't their problem. So, I called the broker to see if I could get any help and again nothing, they told me that if I could not get someone out there, that I better go buy a chain saw and do it my self (yea right 10000 lb. tree on the roof I'm sure that I can remove that) So yes, I think that was the worst customer service I have ever got in my 50 yrs of existence."

"I had my auto insurance with Nationwide all my life. My wife also had Nationwide when we got married. We stayed with Nationwide, added 2 more kids and 2 cars to our policy. My premium kept jumping even though we had no claim or traffic violations. My semi-annual premiun topped $3300. When I saw what other people were paying for insuance I questioned my agent and was told that I currently received 9 disounts for various reasons and was not paying an "annual" rate and the premium was correct. I always thought my company would take care of me. I'm now 55 years old..no claims and no tickets. I went through an independant agent and received 9 estimates, comparing apples to apples, for other insurance. The WORST estimate would have saved me $600. semi-annually. I opted for Travelers Insurance and added $50,000 in property damage for $1762 semi-annually. This included the same cars, amounts of coverage, and my wife and two daughters on the policy ( and no extra discounts). Prior to signing with the company I called my agent once more and asked if his premium was actually an annual rate which I was paying twice a year. He reiterated I was getting the best rates I could get.I dropped Nationwide and went with Travelers. I was billed $800+ several months later by Nationwide. I called my agent and he said that it was for several months after I had discontinued coverage because he had been trying to get my rates down and did not actually stop my insurance.I did not pay the extra since I had told him to drop my insurance several days before my coverage would have stopped. I still had my homeowners, which had a watercraft rider on the policy for a 20ft. boat. I received the bill in June, payable by July 17 for $783.I had sold the boat in Feb. and did not need the watercraft rider. My wife called the agent and informed his secretary that we sold the boat and no longer need coverage. The rider was $243. The homeowners bill was $540. She told us to only forward the $540 and that we could possibly get a prorated refund for the unused watercraft rider from Feb to July if we send them a copy of the bill of sale for the boat. My wife and I never got around to doing that and it would have been a small amount anyway. I did send the check for the $540 which was cashed by Nationwide prior to July 17 when it was due.Now it is November and I received a bill for the 2nd installment of my homeowners insurance in th amount of $251. I already paid t he full homeowners amount. my wifew called the agent Saturday when the bill came. Today, Wednesday, a message was left on our machine from our agent. We called him and he said he had our note there about the dale of our boat and he was waiting to see the bill of sale that we promised to send. My wife explained that was only for a refund of the prior billing and that we had dropped the boat coverage in July when we called since we do not have the boat any longer. He said he would try to pro-rate our bill back to July to get some of our money back but we still needed to pay our premium. What, for a boat we do not own any longer? We had cancelled this in July and paid our full homeowners coverage. He asked again for our bill of sale. My wife told him that was for a refund of the previous billing, which we declined, and we would NOT show it to him at this point and we will NOT pay this new, 2nd installment, of our homeowners policy. I have the cancelled check. He is now going to try? to get this 2nd bill quashed and will hopefully have information for us tomorrow. What a rip. He could not tell us to ignore the new bill and he would take care of this?? He is going to try? to get us out from under this. This was OUR fault??? I do not recommend Nationwide to anyone. A friend of mine, with his families auto policy with the same agent for many years, dropped his coverage also when he saw how much he was paying compared to other insurers. He too thought a life long insurance carrier would by looking out for them. They were only looking out for our increased premiums...."

"My signing up agent was so bad that I wrote the BBB. She told me she was too busy signing new people to complete our transaction... I would have to trust that I was covered. She added a policy w/out asking me if I wanted it 'because' my cousins had that additional policy! she quoted a rate but I never rec'd that rate. Due to her, I received late fees that she was to have voided but it was never done. No one would oversee, correct or apologize for her actions... VERY bad experience. I am changing. "

"Nationwide does everything it can to not pay for medical claims from accidents. It has "experts" advise about whether or not you should have injuries covered, experts who have never seen nor talked to you. However, they know better than you and your doctor if you need treatment. The company does not respond when you offer to be examined by the "expert". They do not pay you to the full extent of your medical benefits coverage and find all sorts of other reasons that you might be suffering from the injuries that you are having treatment for other than that the injuries resulted from the accident. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND THEM - they should change their slogan to "Nationwide, we're on our side (not yours).""

2009-01-15 15:01:48 EST

"Although I am happy with my premium, Nationwide seems to be pricing themselves out of the market lately. Especially when it comes to property policies. Not a good way to keep business."
2009-01-27 02:03:13 EST

"no claims on eihter auto or house but rates skyrocketing every year. will probably seek other insurance company."
2009-01-17 11:29:31 EST

"To few agents that only work M-F. I needed to get photo inspection done on my car and they can't find an auto-body shop that in my area to help me."
2009-01-17 13:28:28 EST

"My car was totalled over a week ago and it still is not resolved. not even close. today they said the were waiting for a tow truck to move it to another spot. the third place just to find what kind of options were on it. everyday it has been taken over by a new person. I called my agent and asked about the process because i have never filed a claim before in my life. I was told they did not know how the process goes. How that for service! As soon as it is resolved I will be moving on to some other company"
2009-01-23 14:20:39 EST

"My agent messed up both my homeowners and auto policies. He "forgot" to add coverage that I requested to my auto policy. I discovered that he hadn't done it when I went to make a claim and the company told me I didn't have coverage. The company wouldn't honor the claim even though they agreed their agent messed up and I had documentation to prove it. Also, the agent didn't cancel my insurance on a house that I sold even though he was involved in the transaction. I ended up paying premiums for coverage on the house for 6 months after the I sold it. Nationwide kept insisting that I owed them for both properties. They finally agreed to refund my money after I showed them closing documents. It took me another 3 months to get the extra premiums refunded to me. I've been with Natiowide for over 25 years but I've had it with them. They no longer seem to know what they're doing and I would not recommend them. "
2009-01-26 22:09:55 EST

"Have been a customer for 20 years and had been very satisfied. However, the past year or so my car insurance has been increasing about $40 per year per car - my agent did not have a good explanation for this. Also my recent home owners insurance went up 63% causing me to shop all my insurance. I found out that I was overpaying on Car, Home, Inland Marine, and Umbrella. I am switching and will save about $1500 a year. Wow."
2009-01-31 15:31:29 EST

"I have had Nationwide Auto and renters insurance for 1 year. I paid for the year upfront. Now they say I owe an additional $250 because they accidentlly gave me home owners insurance and then switched it to renters insurance. They reduced the price to $140 because I complained. But now my rate has gone up several hundred dollars because I moved to a new address. I am switching insurance companies because nationwide is a pain my you know what."
2009-02-06 17:38:54 EST

"Nationwide's claims handling was first rate second to none , I was with Allstate for 15 years and had one auto claim with them they were so bad I switched to Nationwide However Nationwide is expensive compared to others I have checked lately. But have learned that the service from the competitors was not of the same standard as Nationwide. So I am sticking with them. Do your homework, with insurance it's not just the price you pay for the policy — it's the service . Call your local auto body repair shops ask them about Nationwide - call your local home repair company and do the same."
2009-02-03 17:26:16 EST

"I have alot of money invested in Nationwide with Insurance for car/home/umbrella. when In an accident recently (not our fault) the other insurance did not have enough to cover the damages on our car. i thought by having all of our vehicles FULLY covered they tried to cheat me on OEM parts and said it was not on our policy. I thought if I had a 1/2 a million it was covered and they said you don't have OEM parts listed on your policy. I never was told I had too. So in the long run our agent who failed to call us back and is lacking as a agent..We finally got what we wanted but they tried to make us pay for the difference...It just sucks when your with a company for over 20 years they fail to update you on what the heck is going on with CHANGES ON their end. I am presently looking for another company."
2009-02-04 10:27:25 EST

"went to another company and saved about 750 dollars a year. NW raises rates for no reason over and over"
2009-02-04 14:13:56 EST

"poor communication with customers."
2009-02-06 08:41:29 EST

"Only address claim after 7 months after filed. No update and added claim history after compaint was filed with insurance commissioner."
2009-02-12 05:14:00 EST

"Changed to anothr company and Nationwide will not stop taking money from my checking account. I have faxed the Info they asked for 3 times and keep getting different stories. They now owe me 5 months payments and nobody I talk to at their call center claims to be able to resolve the problem. Next call is the MD Ins Comm "
2009-02-19 17:29:36 EST

"Rates continue to rise, even thought we've had no claims. When the policy expires, we are going with someone else. Also, they send correspondance to an old PO Box even though we've imformed them of this problem on multiple ocassions and the actual address on the policy itself is correct. They don't know their butt from a hole in the ground."
2009-02-20 13:18:04 EST

"I've been a nationwide customer for over 20 years in several states. Up until our move to Nevada I never had a problem with them. Now they're expecting me to pay big $ for insurance my house for over $200K over what the house is worth. I've never filed a claim with them either. What gives with Nationwide????"
2009-02-19 01:38:17 EST

"my agent is notably lazy in a profession of lazy people."
2009-03-02 15:30:21 EST

"you read these statements other people posted and it makes you realize how most people don't understand their insurance coverage at all. Everyone wants cheap coverage until it comes time for a claim--then they say they are getting ripped of when they don't have the best coverage that was available. People need to take responsibility for themselves."
2009-03-03 20:02:59 EST

"The way that they have handled my house fire is complete caos! I have had the run around with them for the past month. I'm sure they will cancel me after the claim is settled, which is fine because I would have dropped them anyway. Be sure to shop around and look at companies ratings before you make you mind up! "
2009-03-04 09:26:27 EST

"AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE "
2009-03-18 21:40:49 EST

"Will use junkyard parts on your car, took three weeks to get approval on repairs."
2009-03-13 09:35:00 EST

"They changed my homeowners policy...it went from $932 per year to $5586. They can not tell me why or how. 800 # said to call the local office...local office said they didnt know. 4 weeks later still no word. SO I changed to another company. CottonState. Then I get slapped with a bill. I called and inquired...they said its called Short Rating. Because I canceled my policy mid term and did not wait for it to expires. What a bunch of BS !!"
2009-03-16 16:37:51 EST

"We were not sold the proper policy for our rental property. We had to file a claim and Nationwide was NO help to us at all. The truly are not "on your side"."
2009-03-16 13:42:11 EST

"We have had insurance with them for 19 years. My daughter and her husband has had them also. Their house burnt down 3 months ago and Nationwide has been HORRIBLE to deal with, they won't even answer your calls!!!! They've finally obtained a lawyer."
2009-03-24 14:52:43 EST

"This company saved me $130 per month, during times like these.. that is so helpful!!! "
2009-03-19 10:29:20 EST

"Very uncompetitive on auto rates once I checked around. Just about ever co I checked was less money."
2009-03-27 22:51:56 EST

"I am just never contacted and feel I don't get attention at all. I don't understand what my coverage is or if it is even right for me. I don't get a thank you note from my agent or a phone call. Very poor relationship management."
2009-04-15 08:55:49 EST

"BEWARE: Been a customer for 27 years having my first claim last month on new car. They wanted to used parts on a 2 month old Corvette. Nationwide did not pay for all car rental days and did not cover all parts on my car. I was paid $732 out of a $2355 claim. It was a waste of my time to make a claim. They have not return my phone calls after 4 attempts. If I receive this poor of service on a $2300 claim, I have to ask what kind of service I would receive on something much greater in scale. Dropping them ASAP!"
2009-04-14 01:21:24 EST

"excellent comapny stands by their policy holders!"
2009-04-22 11:46:37 EST

"Had a very good adjuster that handled my claim but he admitted that he was under a lot of stress due to his work load. I could tell he was not happy working for Nationwide"
2009-04-25 21:29:11 EST

"My neice lost everything she owned in a house fire on December 13 2008. They had just had a new baby a month earlier. Nationwide has done everything in their power NOT TO PAY THEM ANYTHING!! They gave them a check for 1500.00 and that is it!! They have had to hire a lawyer and thank God have family so they have a place to stay!! They paid no attention to fire report and instead had their investigator look into it! At first they said electrical, then arson and now they are accusing them..It is the saddest thing ...they lost everything all their babies gifts..wedding albums ..wedding dress..journals..family heirlooms..ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING BUT THE CLOTHS THEY HAD ON.. They haven't even given them the rent checks that they should be getting according to their policy. It is a sin the way they are treating them..I am telling everyone I know..thank God for the kindness of family and friends and even total strangers!! I urge everyone who reads this to spread the word...Nationwide is not on your side..It was their first home and her husband had been remodeling it room by room...The neighborhood was awesome..the house hasn't been touched since the fire they are not even allowed to go through the remains of their home to see if anything could be salvaged. They had to hire a lawyer and pay him 200.00 per hour!! They were in a deposition all day today. I am shocked that this website even exists considering 50% of your customers are extremely unhappy with your company. I am anxious to see if anyone even cares enough to respond to this letter!! We consider ourselves blessed that they were not home at the time of the fire..maybe if they would have been their claim would have been paid by now!! or maybe not!!"
2009-04-29 16:05:46 EST

"I recently had hail damage on my vehicle, and Nationwide was terrible to deal with. It has been over a month since the storm, and I still have not received my settlement check. The first two settlement offers contained illegal and/or incorrect information. For example, they tried to put a salvage title on my car. In Texas, it is illegal to salvage title a car for hail damage. I have already obtained new insurance from another company and will drop Nationwide when I receive my settlement check."
2009-04-30 15:43:48 EST

"They have a reason "not" to cover you for everything. I've been a customer for 24 years abd have had two claims both rejected for various reasons. The most recent cost me 15,000 to fix a bowing basement wall. My agent told me it was considered "maintenence" and they would not cover it. Anyone know how you can "maintain" a basement wall that is under ground??? I am fed up! If I cmade claims for everything that happened I could understand, but I have never been late on a payment to them and this is my first MAJOR claim!!! I'm changing insurance companies."
2009-05-07 07:29:43 EST

"After a serious water claim , nationwide has placed us with a Maverick adjuster who while initially was amiable, has now tried to lowball the claim at every turn. It is painfully clear that claimants are the enemy. Nationwide is definatly NOT on our side!"
2009-05-08 11:28:43 EST

"Homeowner customer of 22 years. Only one claim in at least 10 years and this year they decided to raise my rate $400...goodbye Nationwide forever."
2009-05-11 15:19:19 EST

"We were given incorrect information by a new claims agent. When we tried to correct it, we were treated rudely and spent over 31/2 hours of phone time in two days. Conversations with 9 different people gave us conflicting information. There was a very aggressive unfriendly attitude by the claims representative."
2009-05-13 11:32:45 EST

"I have never heard of so many reasons why I am not covered for this or that. I am tired of being told that this is a gray area in my policy...my house almost caved in on one side because of a structural problem. They WERE NOT "on my side". Why do I even have insurance if I can never use it for major things like this? I am NOT renewing with them!!!"
2009-05-22 15:14:31 EST

"Our agent is very helpful. His advise has been right on the mark."
2009-05-18 18:09:42 EST

"horrible local service"
2009-05-27 12:52:48 EST

" have seemed to be all around helpful execpt when had accident where other driver was at fault and we didnt know which way to turn when his company refused to help when we couldnt get gas in due to tank opening was crushed. Nobody would help=neither side and itwas late on a Sat. and our town roles streets up at noon."
2009-05-27 20:33:11 EST

"This company do not pay the bills, and most agent are liars and take the people on going around the roses."
2009-06-06 09:35:21 EST

"Great company.Fast service, repairs done right the first time. They are leaving FL and pushing us off on "Company under the Nationwide Banner" whatever in Gods name that means. So long old friend.Guess they see to many claims due to global warming.Been here for many years? Family has used them for over 40 years.Strange."
2009-06-03 12:30:34 EST

"Their IT platform is very old and prone to lot of errors. Their rates are higher than many other leading competitors. Rate swings from renewal to renewal is very high without any justification. Even their agents were no able to justify the rate swings"
2009-06-01 22:11:01 EST

"Nationwide needs to be more concern about the customers. There logo states how they are on your side, this is not true...found out by learning experiences first hand. Never, never again will I take out another policy or refer friend to this company. If friends or family ask, I will always tell and show them what happen to me. "
2009-06-11 13:06:33 EST

"Rising home owners insurance to re-coup their business losses. Homeowners insurance jumped up 400/yr, due to BS explanation of replacement cost"
2009-06-13 13:38:36 EST

"No follow through, they are terible to deal with. I had my first accident and had nothing but trouble and problems from calling them to renting a car to getting car repaired at a "Blue ribbon" shop, which was terrible. No follow up, no follow through. One week repair took over 20 days - not efficient or concerned. Will not renew this year."
2009-06-13 23:20:09 EST

"On a simple hail damage claim, they pulled EVERY trick in the book to maximize the amount they could depreciate my claim, then insulted me repeatedly when I protested, saying they "overpaid me" several hundred dollars. I ended up paying 75% of fixing my roof on a $1,000 deductible on replacement cost policy. I put up a sign in my yard saying "Nationwide robbed my home". "
2009-06-28 01:25:48 EST

"Buyer beware, liars and cheaters. Are there any class action lawsuits being filed for Nationwide? Sign me up."
2009-06-30 07:36:11 EST

"Home owners policy keeps increasing with no claims be filed. There excuse is that some rating agency keeps raising the replacement value of the home. "
2009-06-30 10:56:02 EST

"After checking the market, their premium is a minimum of $100 more expensive than their competitors. Was unhappy with how they handled my insurance claim after a minor flooding incident. Would only pay for the bare minimum in repairs."
2009-07-08 20:39:21 EST

"They did a bait and switch, gave me a great quote to move. Then increased my insurance, they tripple the amount when I called to inquired what happened they had no answer except that underwritting made the decision I asked to speak to some one, their answer was that I could not speak to underwritting but they where not able to explain to me why my insurance went up. When I cancelled they changed my quote from 6month to daily increasing once again & requesting that I pay them more money, since I no longer had the 6month deal..I will never in million years do business with NATIONWIDE again.."
2009-07-09 16:29:16 EST

"Nationwide at one time was a good insurance company but eventually evolved into a rip off company. Had a claim and they insisted they select the contractor, who provide very cheap and shabby work. Of course after having a claim the have canceled the policy which is making it very difficult to obtain other insurance. This is definitely a company to avoid."
2009-07-27 17:14:55 EST

"THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!1"
2009-07-23 18:28:24 EST

"Has handled all of my needs. Great company to do business."
2009-08-04 01:19:06 EST

"Policies, business practice not focused on the customer."
2009-08-10 09:24:14 EST

"My adjustor told me that I had to use his shop in order for my vehicle to be repaired in a timely manner, and that if I chose to take it to my own repair shop that it would take three times as long to repair it. Now we are going back and forth because they do not want to fix my vehicle properly. I called the adjustor and left a message that I do not want his shop to repair my vehicle and he will not call me back. To make matters worse, they are using a body shop to repair my front suspension. They also refuse to give me any estimates.I have been a loyal customer for twelve years and this is my first claim. I now see that Nationwide does not value its loyal customers. "
2009-08-06 22:52:08 EST

"I have established insurance with this company 20 days ago, and they still do not have my file in a active account such as being able to get a insurance quote for another vehicle to add to my policy they say they can not do until my policy is made active by them, they have no expected time for this to happen, I am getting a new company to insure me, and would suggest that everyone look elsewhere for insurance than with Nationwide."
2009-08-11 19:28:52 EST

"If you cancel your policy in the middle of your six month term they will not send you a fair refund. They charge you a penalty for canceling."
2009-08-17 19:52:58 EST

"When looking for reviews for this company and several other companies, I find almost total agreement that these are the worst companies ever. I would like to know if anyone has ever found a good company and what that company is."
2009-08-22 11:58:40 EST

"Frustrated that like other insurance companies the rates go up annually for no legitimate reason and consumer has no recourse. That was why I switched insurance companies last time and guess I will have to do it again."
2009-09-01 01:02:08 EST

"was happy with nationwide for the past 11 years. Three months ago my garage got broke into. We had 1 motorcycle stolen ( street bike with full coverage ), helmets(4), boots, 18k in tools and a lot of household stuff like pressure washer, generator, chain saw, and a welder. None of it was cheep. Here it is 3 months later and still getting the run around. I have them for auto, motorcycle, life, and homeowners and my nationwide agent also does ourcompany insurance. We are very disapointed with them "
2009-09-08 09:52:29 EST

"Get an Attorney to review your contract before you sign. They left me with over a million $ liability on my head."
2009-09-19 17:47:06 EST

"They were there when we needed them, check was cut w/in 3 days and at my house, while my truck was in the shop being fixed, and everything was handled with utmost care."
2009-09-24 14:53:05 EST

"The adjuster lied to myself and wife. Do not trust what they say. Put it in writing."
2009-09-24 23:47:03 EST

"About a month and a half ago i was rear ended by a person with nationwide. They never called me to add my car into the claim, instead i had to call them a number of times. I had an adjuster come out and wrote me a check for the bare minimum without even adjusting the whole damage. Now my car is still sitting at the shop waiting for a supplemental check, and has been weeks since i have contacted nationwide. Nationwide has NEVER contacted me during this whole ordeal. Needless to say, my car is still sitting int he shop waiting for me to call nationwide, once again to check on my claim... Oh and should i mention that the persont that rear ended me got $5,000 worth of damages fixed on his vehicle a week after the accident?"
2009-09-26 11:18:28 EST

"Had to file a lawsuit against them for breach of contract, due to them failing to cover me on the policy. Nationwide insurance company is the absolute worsed. Do not go with this company."
2009-10-05 12:57:28 EST

"Nationwide is a great company. I appreciate my agent and the service provided."
2009-10-06 13:29:21 EST

"My car accident happened 4 months ago and I got nothing from the Nationwide. When we called the Adjuster, he never picked up the phone. When he asked us for any document, we sent him right away, but he only got back with us a week or two week later, sometimes he asked us to send him the document again. I really get crazy with the way they work."
2009-10-12 12:42:18 EST

"Premiums doubled in three years in spite of new central alarm system. Reason given was "losses in OTHER areas""
2009-10-16 10:52:58 EST

"6 months on the car policy and it goes up $100.00 .Customer service is a joke they hang up on you.Tried to get the wife on the insurance cards since she was on the policy must of called about 5 times and still never got anywear.Finaly canseled the policy after having them for 6 months.Companies like this need a wake up call."
2009-10-22 12:37:56 EST

"24 years with nationwide and the adjuster lied to us. Get everything in writing or get an attorney. This company has no loyalty to long term customers."
2009-10-25 22:40:46 EST

"I had a woman back into me in a store lot. I had a passenger for a witness and the lady who hit me had a bag boy that she knew who claimed to have seen it and said I hit her. My car was already moving forward when she hit me. mI had to pay the lady because of her friends statment. Nationwide would not go to the accident scene and would do nothing to leave their desk. I pay themm $2200.00 a year and they treated me like a stinking wet bag of crap. In my 43 years of life this is the worse customer service I have ever had in my life. If they try to sell you insurance, run, run very fast."
2009-11-03 15:19:19 EST

"I have had insurance with Nationwide for 35 years. I received a notice recently telling me they are cancelling my homeowners insurance. I have had one claim in all those years. All the money I have paid them and you see what you get."
2009-11-03 18:07:27 EST

"Home owners kept going up until I canceled it due to very high price and my agent called back and said if I stayed with nationwide she could get me a 30% discount. I was with this company 10 years"
2009-11-05 01:49:43 EST

"I have been overcharged by Nationwide for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately and because my home insurance like so many others is tied into my mortgage payment it was laziness on my part not to check each and every year how their premium increased. However, I was hit between the eyes when this present year, I received a letter from Nationwide that they were raising my premium from 2500 to 4500 per year. This is just unconscienable and will pretty nearly put me out of my home. I have been looking into other insurance companies and find that I have been overcharged by approximately 1,000 each year on the exact same coverage. By the way, I never had a claim. "
2009-11-06 09:49:23 EST

"Very expensive and goes up every 6 months"
2009-11-12 12:20:13 EST

"Will hide behind any loophole to not pay a claim. Avoid Nationwide at all costs."
