"Customer service is poor and it's impossible to get the company to follow through on any of my requests regarding my four policies. I signed papers in June to terminate a life insurance policy and it still has not been terminated as of September. They change my address and phone number without authorization. My agent has no idea what he's doing and has an excuse for everything. I have called the main office and get the runaround every time. I am frustrated with Thrivent and feel that their business practices should be investigated."

"There are benefits to being a fraternal organization that you cannot see anywhere else. Dividends are awesome"

"Like any company you have to trust the representative. My thrivent rep has always steered me in the right direction. I was retiring and wanted to consolidate my retirement with thrivent. My rep researched all my accounts and educated me that I had really good investments in my 401 k and I should not move it any where. We did consolidate the poor investments and they have done great. I'm very happy with my experience."

"My father paid regularly to Lutheran Brotherhood now Thrivent and missed his last payment before he died. Now the agents rudely tell us because of that missed payment his fifty years of belonging has been erased. Taken off the records with no trace. They robbed an old dying man. The agents are rude and brusque and my mother is left with nothing. These people are RACKETEERS"

"Do not invest with this company. They will mislead you. Lost most of saving's with them. They use the church and draw you in. They are only out for a commision. Fees are to high and they will hide this from you. When comfronted they lie. I trusted them and it cost me. They will admit to no wrong doing. Please do your reasearch I didn't."

"Have had long term health care and horizon policies since 1985. Nothing but a scam. Get out now if you can. Some policyholders actualy believe they are part of the Lutheran Church and many Reps dont' tell them any different."

"They scammed us. We thought we were signing an application to move money. Actually were signing up for an annuity. Lied when we asked if this was the case and said that we had to sign a contact to apply for an annuity. Lied about annuity fees too. When we said we wanted to stop process did not. Had to get other help to get our money back. "

"I recently closed a small life insurance policy that had some cash value. I only had to wait about two weeks after sending them the release forms to receive a check for about a grand. While I was waiting for the check I read the review before this one and worried that maybe it would take forever. Everything turned out fine though so I just thought I should let people know. "

"We have been with Thrivent for over 30 years in that time we received bad advice from almost all of their agents and lost money. Recently I tried to get answers on one of their products that I own and have gotten the run around over 2 years with no answers. While their call center is helpful they were unable to answer my question or resolve my problem. "

"I have had a policy with Thrivent for nearly 30 years. Every five years I conduct a thorough financial review. I received poor financial advice from three different representatives on three different occasions. In one case the company failed to follow IRS procedures and failed to reinvest a 401K investment. I had to pay the tax. The company failed to acknowledge the mistake and compensate me. They attempt to take a commercial advantage from their religious affiliation. "

"The Financial rep and principle reason for the dislike of the policy. She is unresponsive and unwilling to answer probing questions about fees etc. "

"My father died a month ago. He had a policy with them since the 1950's. The premiums have changed over the years from 25 37.50 and then when you get older about 65 or so they raise it to 75. Over time your payments that you are paying into disappear like magic. So I learned that when you get older and you need the money to live on you will be paying more then ever because "there just is no cash value" so I guess it is back to start. Other websites say that it the cash value builds up over time. With Thrivent it does not. The funeral director contacted them twice that he is gone and we don't get no phone call from our rep. or anything they might still need from us thru the mail. We just wait and wait. And the funeral bill waits as well. Now we are thinking of maybe taking out a bank loan to pay for the funeral. The funeral home was very professional polite and they deserve there money. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM He paid in he died now you wait. I am 39 years old and they took a life policy out on me since birth and I pay each quarter 25 a year total of 100. Reading the cooments people wrote in I wonder as the older you get the policy will "all of a sudden disappear and have no cash value". I DON'T GET IT Other people have also commented that this happened to them as well. I guess you just take a life policy out when you get older because it's not gonna be there anyway. They must think we are dumb. I may not be the smartest person out there but IT IS WRONG. HOW CAN AN INSURANCE COMPANY KEEP SCREWING PEOPLE. If you can't trust an insurance company who can you trust?"

"very difficult to communicate with. The agents turn over quickly. Never have the same representative twice. The agent may accept the question but do not provide answers. I had a disability policy for 15 years when I asked for clarification ie why was I paying for it after I retired no one could tell me if I should continue holding the policy "

"Excellent trustworthy sound financial advice given. In 2012 received a world-recognized reward for being one of the most ethical companies in the world... I am guessing that the poor reviews are actually from competitors. That's sad. Do your own research on them. This is the only site with negative reviews."

"An absolute ripoff - Half truths deceit deception dishonesty and no concern except for their sales bonus. This is NOT a company you should do business with - Poor financial performance very poor customer service and "Advisors" whose primary job is to mislead you. I have a higher level of confidence that a used car salesman is telling me the truth than anyone from Thrivent. If they contact you - hang up or slam the door in their face. "

"Agent was extremely unprofessional. It took me 5 attempts over a 10 day period to visit with him. No apology was given as well. Sadly Wolves can hide under a Company which questions their True Religion Principles. "

"Ethically and morally challenged company in my opinion; less than week after my sister-in-law died unexpectedly, they took the opportunity to visit her mourning, aging mother to encourage her to move all of her monies to Thrivent though the visit was under the guise of settling a small life insurance policy on my sister-in-law. Three months later, after having to move into an assisted living home due to diminishing health, cancer treatments, and inability to care for herself, Thrivent denies all claim for LT Care, though they collected premiums for 25 years on that policy."

"They told me my Horizon policy would pay my spouse after Age 84. They have been telling me this for 19 years. Now they tell me the policy is a term life insurance. Keep away from them. When you ask them questions they give you goobledygook about interest rates.I asked about whole life and they gave me the run around as well. "

"Thrivent is a total rip off. I have closed all my accounts at Thrivent because of their poor financial perfomance. They are even charging me $18.00 to close this life insurance policy. I would also recommend not investing in Thrivent mutual funds. After 15 years my annual average return was minimal."

"Thrivent used to have the absolute top ratings from the 4 major rating services. Now they have only 1 top rating, and one 3rd from the top, and because the other two rating companies lowered their ratings to an embarrassing point, Thrivent requested that they not be rated by those companies any longer. Now Thrivent only shows as being rated by two companies when everyone else is rated by all four. Smell something in the air?"

"I have been insured by Thrivent Financial for almost 30 years. I have many policies with this company as well. My first policy was purchased in 1978, and my most recent was purchased in 2008. I value the policies that I own and appreciate this company because they do what is right, for their members. I know of no other organization that has done what Thrivent Financial has done for me and for my community. A big thank you to this fine company. THANK - YOU!"

"Since the merger between former AAL and Lutheran Brotherhood, Thrivent has steadily made their products less competitive and reduced the level of service provided to customers. The number of field representatives is drastically less and the ones that remain have no experience. A sick company getting sicker every day."

"This organization is filled with caring people trying to compete in an unforgiving world. They have always done what is in the member's best interest and helped out a lot of people in the process"

"THIS IS NOT AN INSURANCE COMPANY - IT'S A FRATERNAL ORGANIZATION AND THEY ARE EXEMPT FROM THE INSURANCE LAWS THAT SHOULD PROTECT YOU!!!!! My mother had a "refund of premuims" disability policy with Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent). The deal was to pay $2,000.00 per year for 10 years. If no claims were made, there would be a refund of all premiums with no interest. They were happy to take her $500.00 every 3 months, but when the policy came due, they refused to give her her money. It was $20,000.00. They claim they changed the terms of the policy and that she agreed to it (SHE DID NOT - WHO WOULD AGREE TO THAT????). These people are LIARS and THIEVES. See an article in the Wall Street Journal, May 2006, "Some Life Insurers Play by Different Rules" by Theo Francis. They should be rotting in jail. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKED SOB'S. You would be better off flushing your money down the toilet, because then these jerks wouldn't benefit from it. "

"The company before the merger with Lutheran Brotherhood was excellent. Since the merger the compnay has swiftly dropped in it's customer service and the performance of it's products iss very poor. This is another merger which is not in the interest of the original policy holders. I doubt if Thrivent can survive as a Lutheran organization with this poor service and poor performance."
