"Was told by Aetna on phone they would cover up to certain out of pocket amounts. After surgery ,$1500 out of pocket turned into $9500 because of over Reasonable & Customary charges & being over90th. percentile." 2007-05-01 21:33:31 EST
"please dont use this insurance
" 2007-06-20 12:35:10 EST
"They charge incorrect deductibles and copays. and deny claims repeatedly, it usually takes 3 or more calls to get a claim filed correctly. There customer service is poorly trained, had two different people tell me a service was covered only to have them deny it later. Filed an appeal and after more that a year still no response." 2007-06-26 11:56:26 EST
"You don't get the same answer twice, you are never allowed to speak to a supervisor, their reps are rude and obnoxious, and one hand truly doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

"They changed my rx coverage without informing me. So I go to the pharmacy to pickup my meds that I NEED to take and they said that my ins. co. only covers mail order rx's now.
I called and asked them to override 1 time for me and it was a big ordeal.
It has taken me awhile to find a new dr in the state that I live in, so I hadn't gotten a dr who will give me a 3 month supply for mail order. I asked them for a second override and they won't do it. My dr perscribed my meds cause I need them and now AETNA is overiding my dr.
Premium prices substandard benefits." 2007-07-25 14:37:50 EST
"This insurance is a NIGHTMARE!!! PLEASE do not sign up! They lost my card in mail twice and I just recently received it, and I signed up 7 months ago!! The customer service people are very rude and not trained well at all. What a shame. I recently found out I have to have surgery, and found out they will only cover $5,000 of a $27,000 surgery! After I told them I will not have the surgery, they mentioned I will still get billed...which is INSANE. I AM NOT paying for a surgery I will not have. I will consider legal action against them soon.

"Lengthy reviews of claims and I think dishonest and unfair payments." 2007-08-14 13:14:19 EST
"AETNA, unfortunately, provides few providers for "in-network" coverage. In fact, for many types of providers, there are one or two providers in my large metropolitan area. This causes strife because I have to use out of network services - higher deductible and cost out of pocket." 2007-09-19 12:53:50 EST
"Systematically claims that doctors overcharge and refuses to reimburse." 2007-10-12 22:39:43 EST
"We are having a problem with our dentist. It seems that Aetna is paying a claim for less than what Aetna and the dentist have agreed to. Aetna still has not paid their portion based on the agreed upon rate.
Maybe Aetna needs another class action law suit against them." 2007-10-24 17:25:38 EST
"Customer and provider satisfaction surveys are uniformly unflattering. Company changed insurance carriers. Will opt out." 2007-10-31 11:27:54 EST
"Worst carrier I've had in MA. limited policies exorbitant co pays and deductibles. stuck with it.
Tuft's HP, BC/BS, Harvard Vanguard offer better product and services. Aetna moved into NE market and has destroyed it" 2007-11-12 22:13:40 EST
"They suck, flat out. They're the worst insurance I've ever had in my life." 2007-11-13 13:09:17 EST
"They do not pay good copay's on meds." 2007-11-28 14:04:15 EST
"stay away from this cold thoughtless clueless company. it is too large and disorganized" 2007-12-18 10:57:23 EST
"Aetna is by far the worst health care insurance I ever dealt with. It is taking 6 months to process a hospital stay, and the keep asking me to fill out paper work after paper work. Only to discover that I sent them 6x the same paper work and they continue to this day to say they never received it. The paper work keeps getting lost. I sent it by mail & fax (which is 2x for every 6x I sent it). You can never get hold a supervisor. And, their mounds or errors on the paperwork they send you. When you call, the reps give you different answers, and its hard to determine truth. It has cause me undue & unjust anxiety, and financail burdens, and then to be even more disturbed by collection calls." 2007-12-18 17:50:16 EST
"Worst health insurance in the world!" 2008-01-05 11:52:31 EST
"Stay away from Aetna!!!!!
Have you watched Michael Moore's movie Sicko? I almost did not beleive that the horrors in the movie happened to real people. After dealing with Aetna I know the movie was for real.
Aetna denied a MRI scan as being "expiremental" despite the technology has been around for decades. What's next? X-rays are expiremental too? Or may be we should stop seeing doctors at all.
It is unfortunate for me that after changing jobs my new employer offered only Aetna. I am so frustrated that I am willing to forfeit the company contribution and buy myself a reasonable insurance from Oxford, my previous insurer." 2008-01-09 22:13:18 EST
"Aetna is a complete joke. " 2008-01-10 08:12:50 EST
"I've had Aetna for several years now and had been generally satisfied. However, their true colors have come out this past year and they are not pretty colors. I had a severe allergy season last spring and could not get the medicines my doctor wanted me to have because Aetna kept denying the precertification request. I practically ODed on overthecounter meds to get some relief. Now I'm a bureaucratic loop on a medical device to help me breath. My health continues to decline because Aetna can't remember that they are dealing with patients who need help. PATIENT HEALTH AND BEST INTEREST IS NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT A PRIORITY WITH AETNA." 2008-01-09 13:53:20 EST
"requested payment of dental claim by email and phone multiple times and no payment was made; requested details of claim multiple times and also was ignored; company retains way too much info; and when did we lose coverage for preexisting conditions; my understanding was this was outlawed; so you pay for insurance and get no coverage what is up with that; they are the worst carried i have ever had the need to get coverage from; the only negative thing about my new job is that the insurance is from aetna; given another choice i would not get insurance from them " 2008-01-26 07:55:43 EST
"Aetna has basically been a nightmare from the beginning. I am currently involved in a lawsuit with them, whereby they are trying to collect from ME for bills they paid out following an accident I was in. They have been terrible. Money-mongers...not a service agency!" 2008-01-31 00:14:06 EST
"This business is simply legalized extortion. They take your money on time, every time monthly, yet you're left to hope for the best when it's the other way around. Aetna likes to "review" anything and everything about your claim. The letter says they can always choose not to pay, even after anything is approved. I'd rather look for another employer with better benefits than this crap!" 2008-02-03 03:16:49 EST
"They are very difficult to deal with. I agree with everyone here, you get one answer from one person and next time you call it is different. WOW, and they have all my medical information. Scary!" 2008-02-19 10:24:15 EST
"When I contact them via e-mail, the reps do not seem to care to really read my message. They send a message back that does not address my question or they answer only part of it.
I have had to contact them by phone many times to try and fix errors that I was not able to fix by their internal e-mail system. This is a problem when there has been many errors with my claims." 2008-02-29 03:21:40 EST
"four claims that were not paid due to mishandling on aetna's part. Made many, many phone calls over multiple months, each time thinking it was taken care of only to find that it was not. They still haven't paid. I am on the phone with them right now. The rep says it should all go through and that the last time I called about it the requests did not go through properly. And the time before that?" 2008-02-29 12:50:43 EST
"Don't buy short or long term disability insurance from these people. I did and am now disabled and they wont pay. I filed an appeal and won, they turned me down again and I won. Still in limbo after 2-1/2 years of no income. There is no penalty if they deny and lose...they just have to do what they were supposed to do in the first place." 2008-03-13 17:33:56 EST
"Aetna has denied all claims that our doctor has sent in. I have to bring them into my place of employment and have my HR Representitive fax the claims to Aetna after their denial in order to get them to pay." 2008-04-02 17:35:20 EST
"Aetna is a disgrace to the American people. They are the reason that our country is so unhealthy.
They have charged me $100.00 for a pap-smear without notifying me; instead I had to find out through a debt collector nearly 8 months later only to find out that my credit has been negatively impacted.
Does this encourage a person to return to the doctor routinely as a practice of preventative medicine? NO! Incidents like these do not encourage people to go to the doctor's and get routine check ups." 2008-04-03 10:51:25 EST
"Read the small print, then hold your breath. This is a company that wants to collect premiums and pay neither clients nor doctors. Doctors are severing their ties with it in droves." 2008-04-11 19:44:01 EST
"Aetna does not pay for required services. No payment for your kids' immunizations(perhaps $15 out of every $400 due is what they'll agree to pay). They have a tricky claims processing method that many physician's billing offices can't figure Aetna out to get their money from your office visit. They process your In-Network physician as Out-Of-Network in order to get away from paying their share." 2008-04-12 05:51:41 EST
"aetna will find any way they can to NOT pay. There tactics are unbelievable. Every claim is like pulling teeth to squeeze a dime out of them. WARNING do not use! I have been with them through woork for 20 years. finally got blue cross. What a difference." 2008-04-27 10:17:30 EST
"Don't follow their own "CPB" Guidelines. Always finding reason not to pay. Terrible payment and followup of problems." 2008-05-03 09:50:16 EST
"i'm in the middle of having a claim reprocessed and it is a NIGHTMARE!!! i've been getting the runaround from aetna for almost 4 months and just found out one of my bills went to medical collections because aetna was so slow in reprocessing my claim and paying out the amount owed to facilities where i was treated. they are ruining my LIFE and my CREDIT!" 2008-05-08 16:34:16 EST
"Very hard to make an appointment for anything. I have had Aetna for 5 months and have not been able to make an appointment due to lack of response from the company. Did not even get my insurance card for 5 months." 2008-05-14 12:39:06 EST
"They are so slow to process claims that they go to collection with the physician. And you cannot find ANYONE to speak to. There are no phone numbers where you can talk to an actual human being. Utterly ridiculous customer service." 2008-05-15 12:02:04 EST
"If you are shopping for health insurance and reading this message, don't go anywhere near Aetna. My employer switched from Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Sheild to Aetna effective the 1st of the year. Premiums nearly doubled and the health coverage actually DECREASED, if you can belive that. In addition, their customer service is outrageous. The first time I called to ask about a bill I was immediately told to pay it, or they would be sending a collection agency after me. I was outraged. I never had a problem with Anthem. DO NOT GO WITH AETNA!!!!!!!! " 2008-05-28 11:03:37 EST
"i had an accident in may 2007. its may 2008 and all my claims that i put in on november 2007 are still not completed/processed. thay take FOREVER!! oh and dont be in a different country when something happens because if they have to translate something(hahaha FORGET ABOUT IT) it will take 6 months to translate 1 page. They suck." 2008-06-01 10:27:27 EST
"The one thing I wasn't happy with is that my Primary Care Physician was capitated to a particular Physical Therapy group and I wanted to go to a different one who was in the network. I'm happy with the physical therapy I'm receiving so it all worked out in the end.
The referral process has been very easy. I have never had any problems with customer service and I'm on Cobra so you think I might, but I haven't. " 2008-06-02 18:41:11 EST
"I believe this company's policies and practices attempt to increase profitability by avoiding providing services to its members and the services they do provide are low quality and unprofessional. It appears the company is managed by an uncaring and perhaps incompetent management team driven only by their greed.
In my brief five months of using their "service", I have had them delay sending prescriptions that I have been using for years because of their review process. I have missed being able to take medication because of delays in processing prescription mail orders. My PCP recently dropped out of the Aetna network. Most other physicians that I have seem to have a very negative opinion of this company. Lastly, talking to the Aetna Customer Service Help Desk is usually a tedious and frustrating experience." 2008-06-07 14:23:37 EST
"EVERY SINGLE SPECIALISTS I WAS REFERRED, I HAD TO GET A REFERRAL TO GO TO THEM. EVEN IF I WENT TO THE SAME SPECIALISTS 2 TIMES I HAD TO GET 2 REFERRALS!! IT WAS VERY ANNOYING HAVING TO PAY THE COPAY INORDER TO GET A REFERRAL THAT YOU ALREADY SENT INTO AETNA A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND THEY CLAIM THEY DID NOT RECIEVE IT!!!!! VERY UNSATISFIED WITH THE HASSLE!!!!" 2008-06-09 02:13:38 EST
"Very timely payments by this insurer and low co pays" 2008-06-27 10:30:07 EST
"They charge a lot and cover almost nothing. They nickle and dimed me to death. In ONE MONTH they raised my rate 60 dollars a month. That was the last straw for me." 2008-06-24 10:43:22 EST
"Every claim turns into hours of phone conversations to get the claims right. We see bills for things that are supposed to be covered like our yearly pysical exams." 2008-07-15 13:06:39 EST
"Very unreasonable company. I was late two days on my payment and my insurance was cancelled without notice. They didn't accept my late payment so my insurance coverage ended on the last day of the last month paid. So, now I have been one and a half months without insurance and expecting to be elligilbe for coverage again, but I am applying to a different HMO of course!! " 2008-07-24 14:05:42 EST
"They are crooks. Not out to keep you healthy but rather to see what $$ they can screw you out of. " 2008-07-29 15:20:07 EST
"sucks" 2008-08-05 01:48:35 EST
"they just deny your claims, meds, tests, everything, until you get tired of trying and either die, shut up, or change jobs to get away from them." 2008-08-23 11:34:30 EST
" Dont have a great choice for midwives only one in my community and I live in a big town also they didnt cover much of my blood work bill (all nessesary tests) It was $545 and They paid $100 lol wish I had my old insurance" 2008-08-22 23:35:05 EST
"They used to be decent but after looking at the latest policy renewal I was shocked at how little their coverage is. If you can, get a different provider.
" 2008-09-01 10:16:26 EST
"AETNA...Where do I begin? They are the WORST of any health care provider I've ever seen in my entire life! The sheet that you get that tells you you're fully covered is BS because you really aren't. Everything has a copayment and they are by far not cheap. We're talking $200-$740 for the dentist and medical...ha...they try not to even pay it having doctors contacting you to pay them because it was rejected. AETNA's favorite line is the infamous "The doctor may bill you "X" amount of money. Your claim has been rejected because it is foreseen as a pre-condition". Every cent being deducted from you paycheck is basically paying for them to do nothing. The customer service i would agree is by far just outright HORRID! For some reason, i was switched for the dental under them to another umbrella area of the company i guess and when i had asked about my dental information...the person didn't even bother to look in the 2nd system to see that my coverage for dental was under something else. I had to hang up on the hood rat i was on the phone with to "hopefully" get someone with more common sense. I'm currently looking to find another health care provider because frankly, AETNA will kill you and the money that you have left. RUNNNNNNN and never look back. If you are considering AETNA, then i just did you a favor and probably saved you health and insanity." 2008-09-18 12:15:43 EST
"I am 26 yrs old and pating around 300$ a month for my health insurance. I never visited a doctor before with atena or any other insurance so no medical history, still they denied a claim for ultrasound saying that i have a pre-existing conditions.
I talked to customer service which told me that my claim will be sent for re-processing, and i should call back after 15 days. I called back and the other representative told me that it was never sent for re-processing. By the time i have started receiving notices from financial servies of the hospital.
Atena S***S" 2008-10-07 13:37:25 EST
"Being the mother of a four-year old and an eighteen-month old, I've filed several claims with Aetna. The process has been less than smooth and I had to call them 14 times (this does not include how many times my pediatrician's office had to call) regarding a claim covering immunizations. I got at least five different stories about the coverage of these immunizations from the various reps I spoke with on the phone. I was disgusted with their inconsistency and inability to correct a problem of their own making. I think it's finally been fixed (fingers crossed).
We have private insurance through them in Michigan and a rider for maternity is unavailable here (and I'm now pregnant!). What is covered is hardly covered. When you take the time to closely review their explanation of benefit statements, you'll be surprised of how much you are paying for your care." 2008-10-08 17:22:38 EST
"I have aetna through my graduate school. It has been a terrible experience. My primary care physician thought I had a mole that needed to be seen by a specialist. She immediately made me an appointment to see her colleague, a dermatologist specializing in melanoma. He discovered that the mole was cancerous. Aetna refuses to pay for my visit to the dermatologist. Apparently, I was supposed to go through university health service for a referral. I guess I was supposed to wait several days for an appointment with some of their incompetent people instead of getting prompt care for my cancer. Nice. Avoid at all costs. It's basically like paying to not have insurance. " 2008-11-13 08:37:41 EST
"Aetna's prescription coverage is terrible. You can be assured their list of approved drugs does not include yours. And co-pays are outrageous. I pay for my own insurance, I have no employer helping out with monthly costs. So what am I paying for every month if drugs I need aren't on the list and it costs me hundreds of dollars for tests, like gyn and colonoscopy, that the insurance company is telling you to make sure to do to stay healthy?" 2008-10-31 13:13:17 EST
"Aetna's prescription section is by far the most incompetent group that I have ever encountered in my 20 years of dealing with insurance companies. Someone needs to audit this insurer especially their accounting methods." 2008-11-03 14:35:47 EST
" agree they are the WORST in the industry. I need my medication on the regular basis so I have to deal with their specialized paharmacy which cannot find my records for 3 months! After going on and on providing proof that I have been with the insurance for almost a year (paying everything on time, etc)they finally find my file. However, then they need to verify my benefits which takes them 2 more weeks! After I finally I receive my medication in 3 weeks I have to go through the same process again. Second month is even worse than the first because now I have to expereince this hell again. Their customer serivce is unprofessional, have no clue what they are doing and have no impathy at all. I have dealt with quite a few insurance company but Aetna is absolutely the worst one. I ususally do not write reviews or feedbacks but this time they prooved again and again that this not the way the business should be run. I agree Aetna needs to be fired!
I also wonder why they do not fire their CEO who makes a fortune but does nothing to change the way the company conducts it buisness and deals with customers. It will be interesting to know if their CEO and the rest of the upper management uses Aetna too? " 2008-11-11 20:36:21 EST
"They do their best to take your money, and they are extremely unfair when it comes to premiums. They raised my premium of 25% based on a wrong diagnosis of my ob-gyn, which was proved wrong by all the tests I underwent. They did not care." 2008-11-03 18:32:43 EST
"Aetna is the worst healthcare company. Despite the fact that they believe they are number #1 ( not sure which surveys they have been looking at) It's CEO and upper managment all care about $$$$..... the money you pay out of pocket the more money goes into their pockets. I had Aetna for 2 years-and have switched to BCBS- DO NOT USE AETNA INSURANCE- YOU WILL REGRET IT....." 2008-11-05 17:49:09 EST
"People who rate this company unsatisfactory have never been with United Healthcare." 2008-11-15 06:03:34 EST |
