"I took Aetna POS-2 insurance because they cover IVF and I talked to the customer care to make sure that IVf is covered in the insurance. I submitted my first IVF cycle bills Aetna paid half the amount and then started saying it didn't receive the remaining billsstrange complete packet sent in same mail. So I resubmitted the rest of the bills many times. And then they sent a mail saying that IVF coverage has been denied for me and asked money back which was en-cashed. Worst Insurance ever.. They just simply deny when it comes to pay the bills...Very disappointed and shocked with the customer service.Worst experience..."

"Aetna is the insurance version of a Ponzi scheme. They take your money under the guise they will pay for medical treatments as necessary. The joke is - they never see anything as medical necessary. Most medical equipment companies don't even service Aetna patients anymore since they don't get paid. Hospitals have canceled contracts They need to be investigated on their practices of taking money and not fulfilling their contractual obligation to both beneficiary and provider"

"In the past from 2011 til 2013 I was satisfied with Aetna. But when I renewed the health policy for 2014 the Aetna sales person told me I would have to pay an additional 200 a month to retain the same policy. The sales person said I would not have to pay the additional 200 if I would except a policy with 75% coverage vs. 80% coverage and the rest of my benefits and coverage would remain the same. I accepted this policy based on the sales person's information. I found out that I was lied to. Many of my claims have not been paid. They pay for routine treatment but not medically necessary treatment. I would almost be better off without insurance. Currently I am shopping around for a more honest insurance company. "

"Aetna is horrible. Worst insurance ever. They always reject a claim and you have to jump through hoops and bounds just to get it accepted. I typically waste 3-4 hours just to get a claim to not get rejected. DO NOT GET AETNA. You are better off uninsured."

"Aetna is the worst insurance. They will deny. If they pay they will take back. That's probably why they are able to afford to pay their CEO 30M in executive salary a year."

"I've never had worse service in my life. My father lost his job so I got my own student health insurance thru AETNA at our school. Rather I should say I tried to get insurance with no success for over five months. I never even received a physical card in the mail although I ensured that my address was correct. I was able to print out a temporary card which I used in an attempt to pay for a wisdom tooth extraction procedure something explicitly covered in the plan which I checked. However two months later I received a bill showing that the insurance never paid for it even though the dentist contacted them and worked out how much insurance would cover and how much I would have to pay. AETNA was more than happy to bill me from January thru August for insurance tho even though they didn't even get my account set up and a picture of a card sent to me til May. I don't think they could provide more miserable service if they deliberately tried to prevent you from using their company."

"I have this insurance through my employer and I have been extremely dissatisfied to the point of seeking other employment. It seems that the standard procedure for this company is to deny anything that is not a typical doctor visit. They constantly second guess my doctors to the point that I have had to get a lawyer and threaten to sue for breach of contract in order to receive the benefits that I pay for. Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I will be sending an email to the benefits department detailing the issues that I have had with Aetna."

"The stupidest customer service I have ever encountered they know nothing of AETNAS policies they read from scripts like parrots I have been trying for months to get a copy of my policy no it is not available online as it should be. My doctor requested pre-certification for my micro discectomy on Thursday for a Monday morning surgery and we had to cancel it because AETNA still has not approved it now here is the funny part. I am in Turkey and AETNA international web FAQS state that pre-certification is not necessary if you are out of the US I am in extreme pain while these idiots decide what I should do. I have BEGGED to be called by someone since Saturday to explain to me what is going on. This company should be shut down and I am saving all correspondence in an effort to do just that. Our company provides this insurance for expats and it is a pitiful insurance company to say the least."

"Aetna SRC requested proof of prior insurance and I sent the information in. Bills have continued to come in unpaid for 7months and I have called twice to confirm they received it. First they deny it then after I continue to insist the letter was sent they say "oh yeah here it is and confirm the date they received it. They lie saying "We are processing the claims again and will be sending the results to you within 7-10days by US mail" Here I sit with over 1000 to pay for office calls labs and tests that I just can't afford. What I do get are literally 25-30 letters requesting again for proof of prior insurance. "

"My 17-year-old son was diagnosed with a tumor on his femur that had to be removed. Aetna not only denied coverage of a second diagnostic test to confirm the nature of the tumor when he had surgery to remove the tumor AETNA denied coverage for the anesthesia. Who know what else they won't cover. It has been frustrating to attempt any resolution."

"I had to go to the hospital for breathing problems. AETNA has so graciously covered maybe 400...of a 5000 hospital bill plus treatment. I may as well pay the full cost of my bill. I HATE AETNA and I am looking to transfer health insurance ASAP."

"My son had a procedure done over a year ago. We received a bill from AETNA and paid the 1400. At first I thought that was reasonable. Then EIGHT MONTHS later we received another bill from the hospital. AETNA decided they were TAKING BACK 2600 and we had to pay it. Then FOUR MONTHS LATER they took back an additional 30000 They now expect us to pay that TOO That's over 50% of what the procedure cost We are in the process of fighting it but it's criminal what they do. Do not get AETNA insurance "

"I have been receiving IVF treatments for almost a year. The last time my husbands company had open enrollment we found out that they started covering IVF. In our excitement to finally have it covered we signed up. The first time around trying to get the meds approved and shipped through the specialty pharmacy was such a nightmare that we ended up missing our IVF cycle. Now onto the second attempt and I have been on the phone with Aetna every single day this week 15 different people attempting to get a single approval number so the drugs can ship. I am now 2 days from needing my meds and they pull some random authorization out of their A word that seems to be lacking from my files ... which was called in by my doctors office two months ago. Seems it isn't fresh enough or some such nonsense and that is assuming the person you talk to will even bother to looking it up without a threat of a lawsuit. There are very few health insurance plans out there that cover Infertility and since it is prohibitively expensive people jump at the chance to get coverage. THINK TWICE before getting excited over Aetna. Literally the WORST company out there. If you have nothing else to do with your days other than stress yourself out fighting with Aetna to get the coverage that they "claim" you are entitled then this is the company for you. I am on day 4 of the fight and so frustrated I want find some lawyer to sue them for premium payments and pain and suffering from having to deal with them and their refusal to provide the coverage I am paying for"

"I have a prescription for a drug. I have filled it once. When I go for my first refill of the prescription it's good for 3 refills the drug store says I'm sorry your insurance company refuses to cover this and your physician must contact them...We tried to reach them and it has been four days but we haven't heard anything. Seriously????? I'm on this medication and I can't get it because out of the blue my insurance company decides it is not going to pay for it?? That's insane. Meanwhile what am I supposed to do? This company is worthless. Don't get Aetna Insurance. I'm forced to because it comes from my employer. Don't EVER Buy it and hopefully they will go out of business because they are not a reputible company at all in my mind. At least they could have said something before I needed a prescription refilled and am now out of the med that "helps me breath"....Disgusted and pretty short of breath"

"Aetna recently cancelled my longtime health policy with NO notice to me. They never informed me that their plans didn't meet the ACA requirements and that my policy would lapse Dec. 31 2013 for that reason. When I happened to call about a dental claim the last week of the year one "customer service" rep noted that the end date of my policy was rapidly approaching but she didn't know why. THREE other reps also couldn't tell me what was going on. When I tried to reach them by email I at first got no response then after trying again received a form notice saying that "my policy was not active." I am actually glad to be with another carrier now. "

Yes that is right. 900%. Month copay went from 22.50 to 186.00. And the month insurance premium increased 50%. Don't ever use Aetna. "

"If you want an insurance company that will deny every test medicine or medical procedure Aetna is the one for you If you can no longer tolerate the excruciating pain of a mammogram due to breast cancer and nerve damage don't expect to be able to have a MRI. That's far too logical for the Brain Club that makes those decisions at the Aetna Round Table. These geniuses' don't have to actually see you either they do their magic by interpreting the facts as they see them and passing judgement sometimes with life altering results. "

"Twice Aetna has taken my child out of hospital despite Md's approval for release. First time 5 yr old child had antibiotic resistant ear infection. Aetna sent child home with catheter from arm to heart and I administered antibiotics every 4 hours. Child ended up having surgery where ear was removed to clean out bacteria causing hearing loss. Second child suffers from mental health issue. Electroconvulsive shock treatment recommended and approved best course of treatment as inpatient therapy. Aetna notifies me on Friday that child will be released on Monday despite Psychaitrist's recommendations to finish normal amount of therapeutic treatments and no Dr. to perform treatment to brain Our dr. Has 30 yrs experience and been involved in son's recovery for over a year. over patient is Aetna's bottomline. Switching asap"

"Worst company ever. Avoid Aetna at all costs. Their "customer service" people seem to have no idea what they are doing and each one will give you a different answer to your problem. And if you fill out a form with them make sure you fill in every single slot. If you happen to accidentally leave one space blank on one of their many long and tedious forms you will pay for it. Your claim will never be processed and you will spend months asking them to send you a new form which they will never send even after FIVE different requests and each time they will smugly tell you to make sure you fill out every space on their forms. Really?"

"The customer care is worst..Customer representative does not have information on the coverage and benefits. I called ATENA 10 times to check on ESSURE procedure coverage under my plan.Believe me...I got different answers everytime. Few representatives said that my plan does not covere this procedure. Few says it is covered 80% after deductibles and few say it is covered at ZERO cost and few are always in hurry to end the conversation. Their claim processing division also does not have any knowledge.I was covered under differnt plan till June 30th 2013 and then I changed my coverage plan from July 1st 2013. Claims for services and procedures which were performed in before June 30th should be processed based on my previous plan but AETNA processsed those claims as per new plan coverage. Then I called and spend about 1 hours to explain everything to them and got it corrected. This is their work but we have to do 50% processing for them...Also I added my child to my plan so they terminated my coverage and it took 2 weeks for them to reinstate the coverage. Overall...My experience with AETNA is worst."

"Aetna is in the business of gouging their customers and avoiding payment of claims. If you can avoid this company you should. If you are stuck with them through your employer I strongly recommend not taking any plan that requires you to get referrals for specialists or outpatient services. They have created a masterful maze of complications to deny coverage because you allegedly did not follow correct procedures in getting the referral correctly. If you get a referral to a specialist and the specialist sends you to some other provider you have to go back to your primary doctor to get a referral to whoever the specialist wants you to see. Aetna's customer service people either intentionally lie to you or are trained to tell you you are covered for something only to later have the claim denied. NEVER use their automated response customer "chat" system. It is a huge waste of time. With any questions or issues you have with your coverage use the "contact us" e-mail system and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING before you go for any medical service for which you are unsure of coverage. THIS COMPANY IS EXTREMELY DEVIOUS"

"I reject Aetna and all its works. That company displays a level of incompetence that cannot be anything but intentional. In other words they do a great job of appearing to not know how to do their job - of course that is assuming their job is to provide health coverage. In all likelihood they see their job as deny deny deny play stupid play stupid play stupid. This is most likely successful in wearing some maybe most policy holders and doctors down to where they just want to give up and quit asking for the money owed them by Aetna. What a way to maximize profit margins If I had any sense I'd invest with Aetna but then the whole evil aspect of it would bother me too much.By the way when I answered I probably would retain Aetna that's only because I have no choice. It's the insurance coverage offered by my employer."

"Surgery for my jaw is necessary. Both joints must be replaced. Have not been able to chew for 6 weeks and they still have not approved the surgery. They had the xray for weeks. Then they wanted an MRI and CAT scan which I have had to pay. They still have not approved the surgery. Now I have had to spend another 1500 for a splint to temporarily help me while I am waiting for approval. I still can't chew anything. I have to use a straw and drink my food intake. Since then I have been checking the Consumer Affairs information and you can't even trust them to pay the bills even when or IF they approve the surgery. They are very good and giving the "run around" lines for sure."

"AETNA's strategy is to delay to wear you down. Because we are based overseas we have their top dollar international coverage. What a waste We've had thousands of dollars denied as AETNA insists that 60-90 minute Skpye conversations with our son's therapist are 5-10 minute phone calls to a doctor's office. We've appealed and appealed and AETNA denies and denies. The company policies were developed by cheats and the customer service people are idiots. If our organization didn't force us into a group insurance policy we'd have left AETNA in the dust long ago...."

"Aetna changed my Medicare Part D plan WITHOUT prior notice. I found out when I went to pick up my scripts and was told that they did not cover until I met the 325.00 deductible. What I had signed up for was a tiered plan that had been costing 0 deductible. If I had known I would have changed Medicare Rx plans during the open time period. Why on earth would a person buy this high deductible plan with co-pays when for less than 2.00 a month more they could get a plan that is 0 deductible and 0 co-pay. And then of course when I called to complain their dispute department says they did mail out a notice. We all know how that story goes. So now I am STUCK with this crooked company until the next open enrollment period. I suggest that NO ONE sign up for ANY Aetna policy. They are more greedy and fraudulent than any other insurance company."

I rarely use my health or dental coverage ayet find on those few occasions I actually do use it they do not uphold their end of the bargain. I have YET to NOT have a myriad of claims issues that takes me literally hours to personally remedy. Seriously I would need to fight to have my preventative health and dental visits covered I recommend everyone steer very very clear of this company. "We have had problems finding doctors in our area that are in the Aetna network, and have been forced to change our PCP 3 times in less than a year because the doctor dropped Aetna. They seem to spend a lot of time trying to deny legitimate claims. For example, I needed physical therapy and was approved for 25 sessions. I only did 16, but the last 2 were denied. It took a call to Aetna to get the claim paid. This is but one issue in a long list. Our workplace went to Aetna from BC/BS and it has been a terrible change. We would prefer to pay more and have BC/BS. We have been told by several doctors, both primary care and specialists, that Aetna makes a practice of making things difficult for patient and doctor, hoping that the patient will give up and pay."

Their tactic is to postpone the medical claim for whatever reason forcing the client to pay out of pocket, or, face poor credit. Once the patient has paid, they still postpone the refund hoping the client will wear down. They have cost me $15,000 in out of pocket this year; $5K has been repaid, but the other $10K is still hanging after four months. I can not afford those kind of expenses. I encourage everyone to choose a different provider if given the chance. "

The present estimate for getting this done is 5 DAYS for a PREAPPROVAL and the way they are dragging this, that will be the soonest. Meanwhile, I have no medical authoriziation and I need my job - more stress on the knee, getting worse. AETNA passes the buck to their outsourced Medical Solutions who makes the decisions. "I am a graduate student and this insurance is provided for my school. They are very vague about how much anything will cost. Nobody can give you a straight answer. The help desk would give wrong or contradictory answers. The online site is difficult to use, but helpful if you learn how to use it. More than half of the bills I received were incorrect and had to be re-adjusted. No one explained the limitations of coverage and my prescription unexpected jumped seven-fold unexpectedly forcing me to be selective with which medication I can take. When I called to ask about the prescription limitation, the person at the help desk said, "Well, this is a limited plan you have as a student," which was not very reassuring to someone who is panicking because they can suddenly no longer afford their medication. So although this is a student health insurance plan through Aetna, you can see that most of the criticism are not dependent on that fact. Aetna has horrible customer service, they make horrible mistakes with their billing, and there are horribly unforeseeable expenses. "

They denied my claim for a septoplasty (surgical procedure to correct a deviated septum) despite the fact that an ENT DR recommended it as medically necessary. Although the health insurance policy excludes sinus, I was told that if their claims department finds it medically necessary, they would approve it. My deviated septum inhibits my ability to breath, and as a result I easily get winded and tired. The ENT I saw said that my case involved a structural obstruction that cannot be remedied with alternative non-surgical procedures or medication. Despite all this, they denied my claim and blamed on the ENT, saying that he either did not provide enough information or that based on the information he provided it was not medically necessary. If not being able to breath is not a medically necessity that warrants coverage for a surgical procedure, I dont what is!!! STUDENTS BEWARE, AND TRY TO CONVINCE YOUR UNIVERSITY OR SCHOOL TO DROP AETNA AS YOUR STUDENT HEALTH INSURER!!! They will take your money, and when its time to pay out, they will deny your claim!"

"Aetna promises access to dozens upon dozens of doctors when it is selling you - but then you VERY often find that a doctor to whom you've grown attached has stopped taking Aetna because Aetna does not pay its bills. Or After you have followed all of Aetna's array of rules and barriers, you are harassed by your medical provider - and refused further medical care - because Aetna does not pay its bills. Or You pay the doctor directly and submit to Aetna for a refund and find that, even after you have written numerous letters of inquiry and request for Aetna to direct payment to you at the address on your letter, they send it to someone else, who steals it - and Aetna then says it is not Aetna;s problem. But All in all, the worst Aetna is that it will take your premium payment but Aetna will not pay your medical bills. As this is Aetna's regular modus operandus, as an Aetna client, you only have access to the least gifted providers and all Aetna providers will only give you five minutes at most. HAVING AETNA IS LIKE HAVING NO INSURANCE AT ALL. "

'Your FMLA/Dissability request may be denied if you do not sign this form.' I notified my HR department of the incident. When applying for FMLA your physician only needs to certify your request you are not required by law to release your medical records to any party as a condition for being approved which this form clearly violates."

"I have aetna through my graduate school. It has been a terrible experience. My primary care physician thought I had a mole that needed to be seen by a specialist. She immediately made me an appointment to see her colleague, a dermatologist specializing in melanoma. He discovered that the mole was cancerous. Aetna refuses to pay for my visit to the dermatologist. Apparently, I was supposed to go through university health service for a referral. I guess I was supposed to wait several days for an appointment with some of their incompetent people instead of getting prompt care for my cancer. Nice. Avoid at all costs. It's basically like paying to not have insurance. "

" agree they are the WORST in the industry. I need my medication on the regular basis so I have to deal with their specialized paharmacy which cannot find my records for 3 months! After going on and on providing proof that I have been with the insurance for almost a year (paying everything on time, etc)they finally find my file. However, then they need to verify my benefits which takes them 2 more weeks! After I finally I receive my medication in 3 weeks I have to go through the same process again. Second month is even worse than the first because now I have to expereince this hell again. Their customer serivce is unprofessional, have no clue what they are doing and have no impathy at all. I have dealt with quite a few insurance company but Aetna is absolutely the worst one. I ususally do not write reviews or feedbacks but this time they prooved again and again that this not the way the business should be run. I agree Aetna needs to be fired! I also wonder why they do not fire their CEO who makes a fortune but does nothing to change the way the company conducts it buisness and deals with customers. It will be interesting to know if their CEO and the rest of the upper management uses Aetna too? "

I pay for my own insurance, I have no employer helping out with monthly costs. So what am I paying for every month if drugs I need aren't on the list and it costs me hundreds of dollars for tests, like gyn and colonoscopy, that the insurance company is telling you to make sure to do to stay healthy?"

"Being the mother of a four-year old and an eighteen-month old, I've filed several claims with Aetna. The process has been less than smooth and I had to call them 14 times (this does not include how many times my pediatrician's office had to call) regarding a claim covering immunizations. I got at least five different stories about the coverage of these immunizations from the various reps I spoke with on the phone. I was disgusted with their inconsistency and inability to correct a problem of their own making. I think it's finally been fixed (fingers crossed). We have private insurance through them in Michigan and a rider for maternity is unavailable here (and I'm now pregnant!). What is covered is hardly covered. When you take the time to closely review their explanation of benefit statements, you'll be surprised of how much you are paying for your care."

"AETNA...Where do I begin? They are the WORST of any health care provider I've ever seen in my entire life! The sheet that you get that tells you you're fully covered is BS because you really aren't. Everything has a copayment and they are by far not cheap. We're talking $200-$740 for the dentist and medical...ha...they try not to even pay it having doctors contacting you to pay them because it was rejected. AETNA's favorite line is the infamous "The doctor may bill you "X" amount of money. Your claim has been rejected because it is foreseen as a pre-condition". Every cent being deducted from you paycheck is basically paying for them to do nothing. The customer service i would agree is by far just outright HORRID! For some reason, i was switched for the dental under them to another umbrella area of the company i guess and when i had asked about my dental information...the person didn't even bother to look in the 2nd system to see that my coverage for dental was under something else. I had to hang up on the hood rat i was on the phone with to "hopefully" get someone with more common sense. I'm currently looking to find another health care provider because frankly, AETNA will kill you and the money that you have left. RUNNNNNNN and never look back. If you are considering AETNA, then i just did you a favor and probably saved you health and insanity."

It appears the company is managed by an uncaring and perhaps incompetent management team driven only by their greed. In my brief five months of using their "service", I have had them delay sending prescriptions that I have been using for years because of their review process. I have missed being able to take medication because of delays in processing prescription mail orders. My PCP recently dropped out of the Aetna network. Most other physicians that I have seem to have a very negative opinion of this company. Lastly, talking to the Aetna Customer Service Help Desk is usually a tedious and frustrating experience."

They have charged me $100.00 for a pap-smear without notifying me; instead I had to find out through a debt collector nearly 8 months later only to find out that my credit has been negatively impacted. Incidents like these do not encourage people to go to the doctor's and get routine check ups."
