"After scheduling a knee replacement surgery with a physician and hospital in my network, I contacted Assurant for prior written approval for the procedure. After numerous phone calls and pushed from one dept to another I finally got a letter back from them explaining that I should have the procedure, submit the bills and then they would decide if they will pay or not. Having read all the reports on-line about shady practices by Assurant to get out of paying, I cancelled the surgery. I am currently discussing the issue with my attorney. Assurant refuses to provide prior authorization even when you have done all your home work. I am planning on changing companies but will probably get hit with a pre-existing condition with a new policy. We need reform !!!!" 2009-10-15 15:44:35 EST
