"Assurant Health is the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with in my life. They have customer service skills that are non existant. They have stolen from me and lied to me and placed work over the 4 months. I will never recomend them to anyone. Even if they were the only company to offer a water cooler in a desert that you would die if you couldn't drink from their cooler. I will make the promise that my lifetime goal will be to inform everybody that I can of their lack of any ability to do anything correctly. I hope and pray that no other living person ever has to rely on Assurant Health for anything, including whoever my worst enemy is. This has grossly been the worst experiance in my 36 year life. God Bless everyone and please for your integrety and sanity use anyone except Assurant Health for anything." 2007-08-16 02:13:17 EST
"No problems. Customer service was right on target and claims paying was effecient as a presentation of the benefit card. I look forward to the healthy discount upon renewal instead of the 25% increase I suffered with my prior carrier that made me so Blue and Cross!" 2007-08-22 22:40:26 EST
"There is NO customer service in their automated phone system where the automated voice recognition treats you like and idiot. Then when you get a real person on the phone, It's a low paid. preprogrammed individual that treats you like the automated system did. They're not interested in your specific probem, they're just instered in some pre-programmed slot they can direct you to. Of course you end up with a voice mail who never calls you back. Count on anything you submit to be denied and noone to tell you why. Stay as far away from these people as possible. No insurance is better than having a policy with them. The end result is the same and you save the premium cost. No kidding they're the worst." 2007-08-23 16:04:00 EST
"This is the only honest company left that cares about the buyer. they don't outsource their claims like some other companies...come on India? unreal! Admitted Reasonable and Cutomary used to be a problem but they have fixed that and truly showed they cared about my opinion and business. they even reduced my renewal rate at my request!" 2007-08-30 16:16:59 EST
"Assurant (now Time) is pretty painless as insurance companies go. Customer service is no worse than any other insurance company (and I've tried many over the years) I am looking around but that is due to rate increases, not service/performance." 2007-11-05 21:39:57 EST
"they denied my claims because THEY beielved that my condition was preexisting. Assurant Health is the biggets fraud in the business today." 2007-11-07 22:29:54 EST
"For blood pressure meds, I can only purchase a 30 day supply, which costs over $10 and goes toward my deductible (HSA plan with high deductible);at the sam time I can purchase a 90 day supply for the same price, but it doesn't go toward deductible. Had a pre-existing injury, no problem in accepting their rider clause. Injured the same foot, but different area, they applied the ER claim towards deductible, now 3 yrs later, had surgery (called & verified before), no problem. Surprise!!!!! They refused to pay for the surgeon (over $9000), but they paid the anesthesiologist & another one who DIDN'T (told Assurant & they said until they hear from them, they can't do anything about it) because of the pre-existing condition. Filed an appeal with the claim for the other injury attached-no way, now I'm at the grievance level. I'm also submitting the grievance level of appeal to my state department of insurance. Oh by the way, check the fine print for renewal period, just found out that mine is adjusted from every 9-18 months. This is the first claim I have submitted. Also verify your EOB's for being applied to your deductilbe-oops, the missed about 6 for this year. " 2007-12-10 16:40:14 EST
"File a claim and insurance is denied....if you sign up for a 3 month "temporary" insurance, read the very small print....They continue to bill you after the 3 months and when you fax them (as required) to cancel your membership, they claim they never received fax and continue to bill you. They are criminals. " 2008-01-07 18:00:47 EST
"First of all the doctor's office reaction when we say "Assurant" is "What?
They have lousy coverage.
I have contacted the insurance commissioner for the state of CT." 2008-02-06 15:43:37 EST
"Assurant denied all my claims based on a pre-existing condition. I am currntly in the grievance process and am seeking help from insurance commissioner. " 2008-03-09 23:49:07 EST
"I and my wife have a $7500 ded. with preimun of $2500 per quater. I was informend if an emerency out of network would be covered without additonal co-pay or ded. I had to be treated for blood clots in my lungs out of net work and they come back with this is what we allow reas/cust. the policy says nothing about reas/cust but gives 6 ways they determine what is paid. They tell me it is to completacted to explain how payment was arrived at and which method they used out additonal $3000 out of pocket above $7500 ded and almost $10000 in preimun.
And no one talks to you and gives an answer put it in writing and they will review" 2008-03-12 10:56:59 EST
"rip off" 2008-03-25 22:25:52 EST
"In 1992 the cost of the policy was $235 with a 500 deductible. Today it's $975 with a $1000 deductible. Last year it went up almost $100. after raising the deductible from $500 to $1000. This year I was hit with $150. increase. makes it a little harder on the retired. Oh this also is with an exception from any bone spurs of the back. I'm 54." 2008-04-15 17:28:30 EST
"I changed plans in this company on 9/15/07 with a letter stating that my rated would not go up for 12 monthes. I have received a letter that on 6/15/08 my rates and deductible are both going up. Assurant refuses to honor the letter stating no increases for 12 months. I am furious!" 2008-05-05 10:37:51 EST
"These people would not accept certain blood tests, and I would be charged the full rate. Not the contract rate. I appealed and never heard from them again. I live in the Cleveland area and found out Assurant Health did not contract with the Cleveland Clinic." 2008-05-17 21:56:53 EST
"I have been fighting with assurant for a year to pay for a cancer biopsy. I called before I had it performed and they said it was covered under my plan. Now they're trying to say it's a pre-existing condition, though it's not. It's impossible to work with them. I've spent literally 20 hours on the phone trying to get a single claim paid. Every time there's more documents, more releases, more resubmissions -- it's like they're trying to wait it out. Based on other news reports I've read, it's an endemic problem. It's the worst customer service I've ever encountered in my life.
I've dealt with numerous insurance companies, and I've never had this sort of problem with any other. I think Assurant is a very expensive scam. They're a horrible, awful company and I can't stress enough to stay away from them.
If anyone from Assurant is reading this, I would really like to know how you sleep at night. " 2008-05-19 19:13:28 EST
"They do not disclose how the claim was processed and after repeated calls they pay some percent. Different errors in billing like "out of network" for in-network taxid and "existing conditions not covered" reasons for new conditions." 2008-06-11 11:52:39 EST
"I have to say out of the companies to choose from I would definately choose Assurant. They are one of the most affordable companies out there, not sacrificing coverage. You have to make sure you get the right policy..Choose SuiteSolutions to add to coverage!!! Helps with the deductible! Makes it $100. I had to have stitches, cost was $1,500, I paid $100! Great policy, Great company! Hands Down...." 2008-06-18 15:53:46 EST
"All my claims have been handled quickly and effiently and whenever I call to check on something I get a human usually is less than one minute who is very helpful and seems to know what's going on. Yeah, the customer service people usually have an accent but it's not foriegn, just northern thing." 2008-06-20 13:24:26 EST
" I have had a policy for 7 months and have had to file two claims. Bothe were handled quickly and without any problems. Customer service was excellent." 2008-06-20 16:01:42 EST
"Don't waste your money with this company. Claims have been handled slowly, and not paid due to a change of policy number when it is "renewed" each November 1. They have falsely used physican information that claims are pre-existing conditions. In several decades, we have never used an insurance company as untrustworthy when it comes to dealing fairly and ethically." 2008-06-30 15:50:18 EST
"I had health insurance with Assurant for 4 years. I have no health problems and never made a claim. Over the 4 years, my premiums increased an average of 39% per year. I would never recommend this company because I hear they do everything in their power to never pay claims--suddenly losing claims or finding ways to get out of paying claims according to my friends--stay clear of this company...." 2008-07-05 08:28:50 EST
"They paid all of the claims I has in a timely matter. After the 2 yr. rate guarantee, I called my agent and re-wrote a new plan and got another 2 yr. rate gurantee instead of keeping the old plan at a higher rate." 2008-07-25 02:31:29 EST
"I got a one year temporary policy with Assurant for my student daughter. They refused to pay on claims. When we contacted the Montana insurance commissioner, we were told we should get out of the contract, and that Assurant would not pay, no matter what. Apparently they have problems with them all the time. The way their policy is written, they somehow sidestep some Montana regulations and there is a limit to how much pressure the state can put on them." 2008-08-11 15:56:22 EST
"The insurance company wouldn't accept my wife, due to the fact that she had stomach issues (due to stress) when she was in high school-- and hasn't had any problems with it for 5 years. It was simply a bacteria, not even a disease. They are hard to get a hold of and their information collecting company is incompetent. " 2008-08-11 12:36:48 EST
"They delayed 2 1/2 months on approval for dental work. Then they disallowed all but $50 on an $800 bill. If I had known they were not going to pay, I could have pushed the work back a week and had it done under my FSA. Now I am out of pocket that amount in one month. I did call them and ask as well, and they failed to get back to me.
Their service is terrible. This is insurance that they sold to my employer, so at least I am not out the premium." 2008-09-03 16:24:23 EST
"Assurant has always paid every claim and we've had some big ones. Other companies denied me coverage and Assurant accepted me and has taken great care of us. I thank my agent everytime I talk to him." 2008-08-27 23:36:34 EST
"They are GREAT at taking your premiums, co-pays, and deductible. It would be easier to raise someone from the dead than to get this company to pay a legitimate, valid claim!
Their agents are even more frustrating than the company. Scheister is the only adjective that comes to mind.
The day I switched from Blue Cross to this piece of junk company was the biggest mistake I have EVER made in my life. I regret it each and EVERY day." 2008-09-11 17:23:52 EST
"Would not cover any of an emergency room visit for poison ivy. " 2008-09-17 17:50:02 EST
"This Co. had great rates for the first 2 years. After that the almost doubled the mo. prem. for $224 a month to $408.My wife had very good health for her age,she was on 2 medications,(1 a generic brand anti dep. and an inhaler for asthema, which she only used 2 times a day.We had to go from a $500 ded. to a $2500 ded. which never covered hardly anything.I would not recommend this Co. for anyone, unless you want to throw your money away." 2008-09-28 22:04:37 EST
"Customer Service provides little to no service. When asked to explain coverage on claims, they can't. Finding doctors that actually take Assurant Health is becoming increasingly difficult. When you call trying to find a doctor, Assurant's records are always incorrect. Please don't use this insurance. It's extremely unreliable." 2008-10-03 10:58:33 EST
"Great Customer Service, quick to pay claims, best I have experienced. I got what I paid for." 2008-10-06 14:43:54 EST
"Terrible terrible terrible!! They don't cover ANYTHING! I have been paying out of pocket for everything, and STILL paying them monthly! They are the biggest ripoff in health insurance! " 2008-10-11 14:07:08 EST
"Even with full health coverage an Emergency Room visit for poison ivy over the summer has now cost me over $700.00 Assurant health covered $17.44. I am a student and this was recommended as the best kind of student coverage. HOW???" 2008-10-20 11:12:24 EST
"Assurant is a very very slow payer. They refuse to call the health providers that they owe, even after I gave them a specific contact name and phone number. I pay nearly $700/mo for my wife and Iin addition to my employers contribution of $200/mo, with no dental or vision coverage. My out of pocket medical expense was about $12,500 for calander year 2007 and 2008 is looking to be nearly as bad. Assurant sucks! " 2008-10-23 16:47:10 EST
"I am *disgusted* by the way I have been treated by Assurant Health. During the electronic application process, I left out 1 digit on my bank account number. I immediately called Assurant to inform them of my mistake, but after 30 minutes of fighting with an obnoxious computer voice recognition system, I was told to call back in 24 hours. I sent an email, and no help was given. I called back 24 hours later, as instructed, fought with the godless automated computer voice for another 30 minutes, and I finally spoke with someone who assured me (no pun intended) that everything had gone through, and I would be contacted personally if anything came up....5 days later, I get a piece of snail mail informing me that my policy was "cancelled in full" some two days ago. Now I would rather deal with the T-600 (or whatever robot Schwarzenegger played) then that bastard unholy voice system, but tomorrow I'll lose another half hour of my day trying to sort this mess out.
By the way, even though I'm sure none of you are as dumb as me (to mess up an account number on an electronic form), just imagine how they would treat you in a serious claim situation. " 2008-10-23 22:38:13 EST
"They use unjust riders to excuse non-payment of claims." 2008-11-04 03:41:49 EST
"The coverage that is provided isn't that great. I am thinking that I am paying out more than I am getting back in return. The dental is horrible." 2008-11-19 12:17:01 EST
"They claim even after 3 years that my claim is from a preexisting condition.
I had to collect 3 years of documentation from my physician to prove my condition was not pre-existing.
The low initation fee is a trap. premium will double in 12 months." 2008-11-12 13:59:26 EST
"They refuse to pay any of the bills or apply any money to the deductable amount. Everything is labled as "pre-existing" even though I had insurance from Blue Cross up until the day I purchased my Assurant policy. I live in the Maine and in this state there are no "pre-existing" conditions as long as there was no lapse in health insurance longer than 90 days. Assurant is a rip off! Their list of exclusions is longer than my arm and the list of mumbo jumbo legal wordings are in violation of Maine law. Check with your state laws and fight them for every penny they are supposed to cover. Expose them for the crooks that they are! " 2008-11-10 12:26:52 EST
"They kept charging premiums to my credit card for 6 months after policy was canceled and the insured was living outside the US. They then had the audacity to send me coupons for more payments, when I stopped credit card payments after 5 months after the policy lapsed.Never had a claim they are just greedy!" 2008-11-13 16:04:21 EST
"I worked for Assurant Health & they are the worst company I have ever worked for. I feel sorry for anyone who has a policy with them because they are being ripped off royally. Just like many of the posts, they never pay claims, always say conditions are pre-existing, their agents don't know what they are selling, people are being ripped off. Tell everyone Assurant sucks!" 2008-11-14 12:17:39 EST
"DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY! They deny everything and claim everything is a pre-existing condition. You have to fight them for months just to pay a simple blood test claim. NOT WORTH IT!" 2008-11-21 12:06:25 EST
"I've been with Assurant and their former names since 1993. I pay annually. In 1993 my premiuim was $1,150 with a $2,500 deductible. It has averaged some 20% per year increases. Current renewal quote is $9,300 with a $5,000 deductible. I have paid $50,400 in premiums to them. At this rate, I expect a $20,000 annual quote in another 5 years when I become Medicare eligible.
I'm healthy and have had only one claim in 15 years for a broken bone. They paid less than $3,000 after my deductible. Their claims handling was efficient. No problems." 2008-12-17 12:19:41 EST
"I am able to work with an agent who helps me and reccomend others to do the same. The rates are set by law in states so the company is the only one who saves money when an experienced agent helps. I have made several claims and my agent and his team made sure that they went through. I have an HSA so it makes more sense." 2008-12-19 08:49:20 EST
"They only time you can talk with a live representative is when you are going to give them more money. If you want to cancel your plan because it SUCKS or you get other coverage.
If you want to get to a live person you have to tell the automated service over and over that you are unhappy and you don't want to speak with them and you want to speak with a live person.
I am thankful that I never had to submit a claim because if it is anything like what I experienced then I know I would be REALLY unhappy.
I know finding a short term/long term health plan is hard but please please go somewhere else." 2009-01-15 18:08:58 EST
"They suck. They will not accept the claims from the Dr or Hospital which means I have to wait to be billed and then send the bill to them. This wastes my time and effort considering every other insurance company would do that for me. I highly recommend never getting this insurance and I cannot wait till I get my new one in Feb!" 2009-01-20 14:52:11 EST
"Set this policy up to bridge the gap between job coverage - gave specific dates for coverage time. The date has long passed, and they keep charging my bank... customer service is a room full of idiots." 2009-01-23 20:08:05 EST
"They have excluded coverage for my son's asthma for 6 years. I just received a letter stating that if you have been insured for over 12 months, pre-existing rider will be waived. But, on page 80 is a special exceptions rider with his name and excluding asthma. CHEATS!" 2009-01-20 20:43:01 EST
"Too much paperwork. Price increases bug me.
Agents mot too much help." 2009-01-28 21:55:10 EST
"Having their policy is basically like having no health coverage at all because you pay 90% of your health care costs" 2009-01-29 16:16:34 EST
"2009 (starting a new year on my deductible) -- Example: My doctor charged $36 for a certain lab test. Assurant sent, in reply, that they have determined this lab test should only cost $7, but out of the kindness of their hearts, they would allow $12 toward the deductible for this lab test.
2008 (my deductible was met) -- Our hospital's imaging dept. did an MRI on my knee, finding a mass in the joint which was affecting my walking. Assurant said they charged several hundred dollars more than it should have for the MRI. The imaging department gave us a 20% discount, but Assurant is only reimbursing their determined cost, so we still owe several hundred $$ for the test even though I had met my $5,000 deductible. 2009 -- I just had the knee surgery and now I am waiting to hear just how many hundreds (thousands?) of $$ they won't count toward my deductible." 2009-02-27 14:14:53 EST
"Assurant purchased my policy and all of a sudden the nearest "network" doctor or hospital is about five and a half hours away. So I should forget any local doctor visit and ensure any trauma is organized near their network.
Called my agent to cancel the policy,a month ago, after a most illuminating call out of the blue from them. The caller seemed to have been recruited out of the lowest grade of used car salesmen. It was rather illuminating to know that my entire medical history had somehow changed in their hands as well. Assurant REFUSES to cancel my policy! Either I hand them eight thousand dollars a year (I am perfectly healthy) or they ruin my credit reporting nonpayment. Isn't that called extortion?
" 2009-02-10 07:00:47 EST
"very good" 2009-02-04 07:52:41 EST
"My daughter was in the NICU unit for three weeks and the doctor the hospital choose was not in network. So Assurant is supposed to pay 70% of the cost and they only paid 52%. I have been appealing and now they are saying the will not pay because it exceeds the prevailing rate in this area. THEY SUCK! And now as of January 2009 my daughter's Pediatric Hematologist no longer accepts Assurant Health because they are terrible!" 2009-02-11 17:15:52 EST
"Except for the gross increases in premiums each year (like all insurance), the company is fine until you file a claim. Either the most incompetent company or purposely looking for ways not to pay." 2009-02-14 15:56:07 EST
"Assurant Health is a total scam.
I lost my job last October and decided to get temporary individual health insurance. My local agent (soon to be my ex-agent) recommended Assurant Health. Then one day the following January I got extremely thirsty and my vision became blurry. I went to the local hospital and was diagnosed with type II diabetes. I spent 4 days in ICU. The next week I encountered problems with their customer service. Their website quit working. And when calling their 800 number; which is the most horrendous automated voice response system ever put into use; their people; who are even worse than the automated voice system; stated that they never had a website ! On this one issue I had to deal with their crappy voice system and incompetent, lying people for a couple of days. In the end it turns out that they had recently made changes to their network infrastructure. So why couldn't their people just admit that ? Now a little over a month later they are questioning paying my hospital bills because "THEY"; not any doctor; say diabetes takes years to develop. And therefore I was a diabetic before being diagnosed, therefore I was diabetic before starting the policy, therefore it was a pre-existing condition, and therefore they will not pay. I've since found out that Assurant Health is being investigated by 15 states for fraud, has a pattern for challenging every expensive claim as "pre-existing condition", and has many lawsuits against them for "bad faith" and denying claims. Stay away from Assurant health !" 2009-02-15 11:54:55 EST
"With Assurant you pay pay pay but never receive anything from them but bills bills bills.
You'd be better off putting the monthly premium amount into an ordinary savings account; at least then you'll have the money available when you need to go see a doctor." 2009-03-10 11:14:14 EST
"They pay for absolutely nothing. I went to the lab specified by them for routine lab tests for annual exam - they paid $3.00 of the $249 bill. They have paid $0 on other claims, i.e, mammogram." 2009-03-15 20:06:25 EST
"Assurant Health is a company of liars and thieves and cheats. They will NEVER pay for ANYTHING but they will gladly take your money. I would not want my DOG to have health insurance from these monsters. They are the devil." 2009-03-24 13:34:59 EST
"We carry a $5000 deductible to keep premiums low while protecting against the catastrophic. This past year we had accidents that took us over that $5000 deductible. So far claims are being handled without our intervention. In the real world the only way to keep costs down is to be involved in the care. We have a vested interest when we know we will participate in the payment. All health care providers will work out payment plans. We are thankful that this system is still available in our country. If we complain without handling responsibility we may regret what we get. Be sure to check other sources of information. Be proactive, not reactive. If we could have perfection on Earth what would ever draw us on to Eternity?" 2009-03-27 13:01:10 EST
"After grauating from undergraduate school, I bought a six-month policy with Assurant. I was 22 years-old with no history of medical issues. Within those 6 months I went to the ER for unusually intense pain. After many tests, they discovered a kidney stone. My bill was $6,000. Assurant argued that my condition was pre-existing. I had to get ANOTHER credit card to pay for my hospital bill, while paying student loan bills and trying hard to find a job in Michigan." 2009-03-28 08:53:21 EST
"Assurrant Health is bad. This company is terrible. Please don't bother. " 2009-03-28 18:28:13 EST
"Company would not even respond to a dental claim. No response at all even after 3 months after sending in the claim." 2009-03-29 13:57:48 EST
"All of my claims have been paid quickly and correctly.
They lowered my monthly premiums after 2 years of coverage, because I re-qualified for lower rates (was still in very-good health).
Customer service reps are friendly & very helpful when you call in.
I haven't had any large claims, but my small claims are paid without any hassles at all (like I had with my old company).
Overall, I'm very satisfied." 2009-04-03 21:07:54 EST
"I got cancer on this plan. Yeah...its great they locked my rate in for 2 years, but I wish they would have told me what would happen after 2 years. The premium doubled and now no one else will insure me." 2009-04-01 20:43:00 EST
"Terrible policy! $5000 deductable and Assurant only pays 50% after deductable is met. Premiums just went up again another $50 per month. I have thrown away tens of thousands of dollars. I could ring my agents neck, but now he's retired. I HOPE HE IS INSURED WITH ASSURANT HEALTH IN HIS OLD AGE!" 2009-04-02 10:47:55 EST
"After reading so many horror stories about Assurant, my worst fears are confirmed. I haven't made any claims, but still my premiums keep going up. I wish I had just established a medical savings account instead of throwing more and more money at this apparantly bogus company! I am going to apply pronto for different insurance with another company, one who has good reviews." 2009-04-06 11:39:15 EST
"I acquired typhoid, and it took almost a year to review the claims. It took a full year because they disputed the charges for medical records by medical providers. During this time, the medical providers then sent my claims to collecting agencies. The representative were unhelpful, and said if I wanted to help, I can get the records for them. Insurance companies should work for the people that pay the premiums (as they increase). At the end of it, they denied my claims and called it pre-existing condition. The next day, they immediately sent the conclusion of this review to all providers relinquishing any responsibility. They are terrible, and I would advise not to go with them. You would be better off dead than to expect coverage." 2009-04-12 14:41:25 EST
"They never even sent me a health insurance card. It was as if they just took money out of my account, but nothing was provided in exchange. And after reading terrifying testimonies in TIME magazine and here, I'm steering clear of this company." 2009-04-13 18:15:37 EST
"stay away from these thieves..
well, all health insurance co. are, but these guys have no shame.." 2009-04-15 18:18:26 EST
"Very unhelpful customer service. Each claim I had no matter how straight forward, I had to fight to get them to pay, taking hours and many phone calls each time." 2009-04-22 22:24:18 EST
"very unsatisfied. They said I could go one place and then they don't cover me there. We are stuck now because we already have paid our deductible for this year, and plenty more." 2009-04-27 12:24:23 EST
"Great Company.
Very Helpful and great prices. " 2009-05-12 22:41:58 EST
"I would have been better off putting the money for the insurance premiums in the bank and paying for my own medical costs. They have paid for virtually nothing on preventative care and emergency room visits, yet every year they raise my premium rate and my deductible. I think this company is criminal." 2009-05-18 15:50:06 EST
"After 2 ct scans and 1 MRI I think Assurant paid a total of 2% and I think that just covered the clinic fees. There are better companies find them you will be doing yourself a favor." 2009-06-04 13:55:57 EST
"I was denied coverage from them. The reason they denied me was because they apparently thought it was suspicious that I had a prostate check when I was only 26. The reason I had it checked was simply precautionary. There were no problems. I just wanted to get a physical, blood work, and my prostate checked. After I was denied by Assurant, I now cannot get health care from anyone. Thanks, Assurant, for ruining my life." 2009-06-29 09:30:40 EST
"We paid $469/month for the coverage. We paid extra for maternity coverage, since we were trying to have a baby. After, receiving the actual policy in the mail 2 weeks later, I discovered that the maternity deductle was $10,000. Meaning they pay nothing, we pay for everything. When they sold they insurance to us, they said that my husbands antiseizure medication & annaul doctor vistit to the neurologist would be covered since we paid extra for doctor copay & prescription copay. LIE!!! They forgot to tell us that they would not cover him, until we paid for the insurance for 1 full year. I feel like this company uses sneaky sales people to trick people into buying something that they really are not buying. They just want to make money. We canceled after 6 weeks. "I was charged the full amount for my insurance, and never recieved any information regarding my policy. When I called, I was transferred twice, each time to the wrong department, and having to wait a minimum of 5 minutes each time. Do the math- in the end, took no less than 45 mins to resolve. Not very nice for a mistake on their befalf. NEVER buy insurance with this company, especially considering the other very negative reviews." 2009-07-15 14:59:17 EST
"I went the Clinic and Assurant denied any assistance of my bills, Scam Scam Scam. The only reason I chose them was the price seemed right while I was in college." 2009-07-14 10:04:15 EST
"They were fine as long as my family had no claims. When we had a health issue though, they raised my premiums immediately to a price out of the stratosphere and added another $1,000 to our deductible. They became argumentative and impossible to work with. After 5 years, we now have to find different insurance. " 2009-07-30 12:06:42 EST
"The absolutely worst and most crooked company I have ever had the unfortunate pleasure of doing business with." 2009-08-16 16:27:53 EST
"I have had this company since 1993 i have had cancer 3 times and over a million dollars in claims paid... not once have i been denied anything. The best company ever!" 2009-08-20 18:37:56 EST
"DO YOUR RESEARCH, Stay away from Assurant...

"Assurant handled my breast cancer claims swiftly and with no problems. They did exactly what I expected from them. I am very satisfied." 2009-09-23 14:52:49 EST
"Watch out for in network/ out of network. They told me my hospital was out of network after the bills came, but later said they were "wrong" and it really was in network. " 2009-10-01 16:43:56 EST
"After scheduling a knee replacement surgery with a physician and hospital in my network, I contacted Assurant for prior written approval for the procedure. After numerous phone calls and pushed from one dept to another I finally got a letter back from them explaining that I should have the procedure, submit the bills and then they would decide if they will pay or not. Having read all the reports on-line about shady practices by Assurant to get out of paying, I cancelled the surgery. I am currently discussing the issue with my attorney. Assurant refuses to provide prior authorization even when you have done all your home work. I am planning on changing companies but will probably get hit with a pre-existing condition with a new policy. We need reform !!!!" 2009-10-15 15:44:35 EST
"My 19 years old daugther ha a flue she spent the whole morning calling to all the telephone numbers that they provided for assistance and no one helped. They even have a mismacth with my name and my policy number,so we wasted a precious time trying to deal with it.This company is a scam." 2009-10-27 11:45:22 EST
"Company quoted me one price and then billed my credit card for $60.00 more. Wasted way too much time trying to get this resolved, afraid of what a claim might be like.
