"I was present when their inspector introduced himself and asked to take pictures of the property.He found roofing problem but did not inform me of the problem.The problem was NOT seen in previous views of the property by myself.While the inspector acted to protect THEIR interest he did nothing to aid me inprotecting MY interest.I COULD have contacted the roofer much sooner.BUT I had to wait for a letter to know of the problem.Had he been inspecting in Chicago he would not have told Mrs O'Leary to get a tipproof lantern thereby preventing the Chicago Fire.Instead he would have forwarded a report to cancel her policy.I bought this property i n June 2014 and have already invested nearly 13000 infix-up / repairs / replacements.OBVIOUSLY I have more interest in protecting MY investment than the company has.Following is their reply to my e-mail The inspector is a contracted employee of American Modern Insurance Group. Theinspector's job function while visiting the insured property is to take photos ofthe structures and premises and complete a form regarding the conditions foundduring the inspection. The inspector should not be providing any feedback to theindividuals present while the exterior inspection is completed as this is not theinspector's role or responsibility. Please be advised an inspection completed by an agent's office is different than an inspection completed by an insurance provider. Some agent's not all will sendoffice personnel to take photos of their clients home for file purposes. The agentwho visits the property can discuss any visible concerns with the client so issuescan be resolved because they are a licensed agent and are able to speak to theclient regarding the coverage provided by the policy they sold to the insured. American Modern Insurance Group does not require their appointed agents to completean independent inspection as we have an inspection process in place.END of the companies reply."

"I was transferred to this company through Allstate due to the fact that Allstate posted a restriction of credit purpose of some sort that I couldn't get their total rate due to credit issues so now I am in a total mistake with this company. A couple of weeks ago I had damage to a part of my home which I was I received severe injuries went to the local hospital with what felt like pains all over my body after being checked out x-ray after x-ray it show that I had major contusions to the upper chest shoulder in which I thank the lord the doctor said I was truly blessed that my right lung was not punctured. he said you need to contact your home insurance agent that is what I did Oh the weekend representative sound so polite with her interview Was anyone hurt.. Oh my God then she said if you are out of pocket expenses save all receipts. She gave me a claim and the name of the contact rep. said he would contact me within 3 to 5 working days he called that Monday which was a fast response only to tell me that I was not covered under that form of property damage that I could investigate or pursue for liability inquiries that he had to deny my claim That I should receive it in a couple of days it is now the middle of the month no letter no one ever came out to survey the lost nor property. I would not suggest this company to anyone Allstate should be ashamed or have better respect for their clients. "

"I was not able to drive my historic vehicle because of many many problems with American Modern Insurance Co. They were very unprofessional and each rep was worse than the other. No one knew what they were doing. I had to keep filling out the same paperwork and still was not able to drive my car because of many of American Modern mistakes. I could go on forever how terrible this company is. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE"

"This company cancelled my policy after less than two months - sent me a letter to that effect and informed me that it will be cancelled in less than two weeks. I would happily make the repair - in fact I plan on it. But I will not EVER work with this company again and I will make sure all of my friends and business colleagues know how awful this company is. "

"Several parties reported that we had over 7000 in roof damage. American Modern said the damage was only cosmetic and said it would only be less than 1000 to fix."

"Had lighting strike our well pump. We paid out of pocket for pump replacement thousands. We have the mechanical breakdown policy and total replacement value. Upon 1 1/2 months of dealing with my adjuster he finally said he would process my claim. That was after having to submit three times our receipts to him. If I would have waited till they paid for the pump work our home would have been without water for almost two months. This was our first time ever for a claim WHAT SERVICE Will definitely be finding an alternate source for home owners insurance when policy comes due."

"American Modern Select Insurance Company the WORST COMPANY. My original insurance company was ALLSTATE and they transferred me to this company. Unprofessional people that have no manners to attend customers needs to answer your questions to resolve claims. I placed a claim for a broken pipe due to cold weather and they didn't even attempt to inspect my home and my claim was denied...If you need someone to help you on the worst moments DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY."

"I was referred to this company by my auto insurance company who couldn't quote insurance for my motorcycle. I was unaware that they would be over 2x more expensive than other companies that I quoted after. I also wasn't told that when I cancelled my policy they would charge me about 120 for 6 days of insurance. They made nothing clear when I bought or cancelled the policy. I am now with another company that is very forthcoming about their policies. "

"Lighting struck our house causing a fire. It also damaged several electrical item in the house they paid for the fire damage but said the electrical damage was caused by a power surge that is not covered. If the fire damage could be claimed and replaced why not the electrical damage as well. And I would think that a lighting strike would cause a power surge so how did the lighting cause fire but not a power surge. And since the electrical items worked before the strike but not after those items should be replaced but wont be because the insurance said it was a surge. So word to the wise don't use American modern they will find a way too get over on you."

"I purchased a new manufactured home in January 2008 paying cash for it. Having never lived in a manufactured home before I shopped for insurance before choosing American Modern over my regular insurance company that had insured my homes for years because the yearly premium was a few hundred dollars less. That was a big mistake. It doesn't matter how cheap the policy is if they refuse to honor it.I paid my premiums faithfully never having a claim from January 2008 until today. In 2011 American Modern sent me a letter promoting a new policy they were offering - a Mechanical Breakdown policy that included appliances electronics and HVAC. There was a 250 deductible and a reasonable premium so I included the Mechanical Breakdown policy. In December of 2013 when I got my renewal notice my premiums had increased over 30% and the deductible for the Mechanical Breakdown had doubled to 500 although I had never made a claim. This spring when I used the air conditioning for the first time I noticed it was not cooling. I called the HVAC company and they informed me that I needed a new evaporator coil because it was rusted out from the condensation. I had it repaired because it was getting hot and you don't want to be in a manufactured home in Oklahoma in the heat.I had been paying for Mechanical Breakdown insurance for over 2 years so I submitted a claim. After 3 weeks of expecting to hear from the claims agent in Cincinnati Ohio but nothing. I called today and was told the claim was closed and the coil was not covered because it was normal wear and tear. WHAT? There was nothing about normal wear and tear in the letter soliciting my business touting their policy. My air conditioner broke down but NOW American Modern wants to debate the meaning of breakdown. My agent that has my car insurance and my homes never questioned a claim which were very few but this is beyond the pale in what should be expected or tolerated. I bought the modular home because Im old and in poor health living on social security I dont need the aggravation from weasel insurance companies."

"The worst company to get insurance from. Our Rv has a tremendous amount of water damage from a cracked not broken pipe so its not covered. Also an inspector came out and did not take the picture of the pipe originally so our denial even took longer. In addition without knowing the cause of water damage in the rear bunkhouse nothing is covered. General RV sold us the unit so we sent it back. Over and over they say they can't detect the problem. American Modern says its our duty to pay for somebody to find the cause. American Modern is upset because I keep emailing them and calling them but this claim is not settled and its been 29 days. Our claim is now getting sent to a specialist. This is not fair to the consumer. Thousands of fillers in damage and a 40000 camper sitting at the dealership waiting on a word back from the insurance company. "

"I have auto insurance with them and i was told all the paper work complete. Two weeks later i get a cancelation letter in the mail from them stating they didnt get all the information they needed. I called them and corrected the "issue" and even after that i got another cancelation letter a week later due to the fact " the information was never sent to the right dept." All this is after they sent me someone elses info in the mail.....the information they sent had the husband and wifes full name address phone numbers auto info etc. I would say not only are they not professional but they are a hazard to your privacy. "

"Dropped then after they jacked my rate. My escrow paid them prior to renewal deadline. Since I went with another company American Modern simply needed to reimburse me the money paid. Many calls to them and always get a different answer as to when I will receive my check. Its been a month an a half still nothing yet. One thing that pissed me off was I sent them the renewal form back and hand wrote and highlighted "DO NOT RENEW THIS POLICY I AM SWITCHING INSURANCE COMPANIES". The woman I spoke to said they never got it later said I didn't sign it . Both present and past brokers sent letters stating I am not renewing with them. They lie and run their scam insurance company unethically STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY"

"They signed me up and then canceled me twice in 6 months. Wanted small repairs but never told me and canceled without warning. They suck. I had Century 1st come eval the house and they saw no problem with the home's condition. I switched the same day."

"They insure something without inspecting it. They act like your best friend until you make a claim. Then they drop you. Paid the premiums for almost 8 years. Had roof damage from a storm. They said it was a manufacture defect. I guess all the trees blown down and houses tore up in the neighborhood was manufacture defects as well."

"i have provided them with all documentation stating that I owned the product which was stole .The actual box the serial number then manual and still they say we do not have enough documentation.I also provide them my ATT bill stating I OWNED an iphone but they still do not accept that.The only form of documents they accept is a reciept which is impossible to keep it with the rest of your life especially if you have paid cash.This company is a ripp off."

"My motorcycle was a total loss it has been 2 mo and still not setteled they have had the title for a week and no one will return my calls. This company will not pay for any accessories for your bike even through you have the coverage. READ YOUR POLICY"

"Company responses to inquiries were very poor. And though I provided them with all required documentation they cancelled my insurance stating lack of documentation Their primary method of communication is email which again is slow. You would expect a company that is trying to retain customers to at least phone the customer to resolve potential issues. If you want a company that is "on the ball" when signing you up but slows down to a turtles pace after you have paid your yearly premium then this is the company you want. The prices are really affordable for collector car insurance but their customer service is less than desirable. Really evaluate before entering into a contract. "

"Terrible to deal withI have owned many rentals been thru numerous claims. The adjusters everyone on up does not ADDRESS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM JUST PUTS LIPSTICK ON THE PIG then tries to tell us they "actually overpaid" us on the claim. I have policies on several properties with them am searching for another company who can realistically address issues act accordingly. About all I can say for the company is a company classified under insurance. Most uncaring impersonal employees but yes I know insurance companies are in business to make lots of money."

"This company insured my house and after one month I got a statement saying the policy is being cancelled. There reason is because there is a box spring on the porch. This is waiting for Salvation Army to pick up. THey have been paid for the year by the mortgage company. "

"this company is a joke Had water damange from some roof damange due to high winds and heavy rain. The adjuster came out and looked at it 7 days after they were supposed to be there and he was in a hurry so he didnt care about the exposed wires hanging from the ceiling where the light fixture was hanging down. He informed me that we needed to find our receipts from 6 yrs ago where we replaced our roof before they would fix it and said that the wires were no big deal. Later that night my house caught fire due to the water damange of the electrical system and no he just want to clean things and not fix them. This is the worst ins company in the world and advise anyone to stay away."

"The company is not fair when it comes to settling claims. They do not have an appeals process. The policy language is very general and ambiguous. Therefore certain terms can be interpreted differently depending on who is looking at it. The answer that I received from a supervior in reference to the policy language was that the state of NC wrote the policy. American Modern just puts their name on it and sells it. They really provide a peace of mind to the faithful consumers who pay thousands of dollars in premiums year after year sacastically speaking. "

"Filed a claim 2 months ago we have not received anything no response to the claim. They give us the run around ignore all phone calls they obviously dont want to pay but they havent even said that. Communication is terrible adjuster is rude and condescending when she bothers answering the phone. This company is a fraud. I am filing a complaint with the State Insurance Commssioner. "

"They did an inspection without scheduling it with me months ago. During their inspection it was determined that my residence was unoccupied. After I paid the premium in full I get a notice that the policy is non-renewable because the property is vacant. I have spoken with customer service twice in the past 30 days. Neither customer service agent mentioned any issues that exists. "

"In the last 6 months, they have canceled our policy twice. First for "Non payment", this was a month after I made a payment over the phone to a rep. Second for "Not receiving proper paperwork or emails" this was after we emailed and sent everything back that they had requested. We have the documentation to show that we returned what they needed. They are a very unorganized company and as soon as I can, I will switch to another company. This is insane. "

"First and foremost, I had a burgulary claim and it took them 2.5 months to resolve the claim. the offer was fair, however, they mailed the check via regular mail. There is no option to have the check direct deposited or even shipped by priority mail. It has been over week since they claimed the check, but I have yet to receive it! This company sucks, Stay away!"

"The estimates for repairs NEVER cover actual costs. Last adjuster quit working for American Modern before job was finished. Pray that you don,t get any mold or water leaks cause none of their adjusters can see that. Find something that the adjuster missed, they NEVER return or acknowledge your problem."

"They cancelled my policy with no renewal, after a year and 2 months because of loose steps and no handrail on back door on an empty home I am renovating.I received no notice to take care of it. Run away from these guys. Beware of being dropped for no reason!!!"

"I had a lightning strike water stop running, adjuster took this issue lightly, I had know running water for a week,water company did the job and waited for payment, it took 4 months for them to payout. I had a burglary, the adjuster will not answer my phone calls and he is rude! Do not do business with these people. "

"My usual carrier would not cover my unoccupied house while it was on the market. They referred me to an affiliate, American Modern. The costs were outrageous (ten times higher), and while moving, I failed to receive their bill. I did, however, receive their cancellation notice. They were one of only two companies that would insure an unoccupied dwelling. Although they are affiliated with my mortgage holder, they wrote a policy that would not be accepted by the mortgage holder. "

"Filed a claim for my RV. My RV was involved in a collision while in my driveway 2+ weeks ago. American Modern has yet to tell me anything of my claim. I have had to call repeatedly and still have no answers. A terrible company!"

"I have never heard of an insurance company not covering damage from leaks.....I have heard of one now American Modern. It took 4 weeks for the insurance company to tell me that they were denying the claim because of page 7 in my policy. After then reading the policy in detail, they actually cover much of anything. This should be illegal. There employees were dismissive and arogant. I would strong caution you about using American Modern. "

"Watch out! My rv was destroyed by wind damage. I had total cost replacement on my policy. Their fine print says you get current depreciated price for the item right away and then if you buy another item within 90 days you get the difference between what was paid and the new cost, but they have to approve the new item being bought as same as old or just alike. If you decide not to buy a new one or you are turned down for another loan, you are screwed."

"They never updated their records to show cancelled policy. Sent us renewal bills two years running which we mistook for the current policy and paid. 2nd time was the last straw. We cancelled them and went with Progressive."

"My first insurance agent didn't know how to take a payment and never bothered to view the mobile home before writing the policy. I traded agents but the second agent never did the paperwork properly. I made several calls to the second agent and American Modern to make sure the Agent had been changed. They assured me it had but several months later it was back to the first incompetent Agent. American Modern was owned by "The Midland Group" this company was then purchased by "Munich-American Holding Corporation" before April 3rd 2008. Today (March 10 2009) as I am typing this AMERICAN MODERN STILL SHOWS THE MIDLAND GROUP AS IT'S CURRENT OWNER. The webpage still goes blank when you try and follow the link. IS THIS THE KIND OF COMPANY YOU WANT TO TRUST YOUR HOME AND VALUABLES TO??? Fat chance, I dropped the insurance and found a competent company. "

"Refused to send an adjuster until we demanded written verification that it was done.Claim was filed over 3 months ago. Now saying even though motorhome sat in 2' +/- of water all day that it needs no repairs. This rv was only 5 days old when flooded and they claim we wanted these repairs done. Why would we ever give our new rv, which we never had the opportunity to use, and pay thousands to have it towed to the manufacturer to file a claim? And by the way they discriminate against women!!!"

"First offer was $220.00 for roof, window and siding damaged from large hell storm. Then company would not return my agent or my calls. Had to send registered letter threatening a lawsuit to get a response then second adjuster submitted approx 15000.00 in damage and company paid $4000.00. I got the roof fixed at least. Several months and anguish to resolve claim. "

"When I got home from work last night I found that lighting had struck my laptop and my big screen T.V. The claims dept. was already closed for the day so I called this morning when I got into work. That was at about 7:15 within 45 I recieved a call from the claims adjuster he asked me a few questions and within 10 min. he told me how much I would be getting for my items and told me the check would go out today and I would recieve it by tomorrow or the next day! Talk about fast service! Of course, we have to wait and see if I actually get the check when he said I would! But, I do have his cell number if I need anything! "

"Two months ago, my mobile home flooded due to a busted hose on my washing machine. The adjuster came out right away but he did a half assed estimate. Then he left me to my own devises. I had to take care of everything. He would not authorize for someone to come out and dry out my house. He said that whatever got wet, needed to be replaced. But when it came down to it, he wouldn't cover half of the things that got wet. Now I have mold in my walls. It has been almost 2 months and my house is still in total dis-array. And (surprisingly) I can't even get the adjuster to return my phone calls. I will definitely be shopping for different insurance when this is all said and done."

"Our house burned recently, a complete loss. Our claim was settled very quickly. They wrote us 2 checks for the full amount. One for the house and one for the contents. Very satisfied. I would advise everyone to update your policy at least every 5 yrs. Make sure you have ebris removal insurance. "

"Took over 2 months, so far, to reach an agreement to get my motorcycle fixed. I was only vehicle in the accident and police report shows no illegal activity, not even speeding. Local adjuster arguing about labor charges from local Harley dealership, finally gets their estimate and sends me a check for less than the estimate, not including deductible. Says that if I can't get them to take less money to fix my bike I will have to pay the differance plus my deductible. In my opinion, since I pay my payment to the insurance company every month, it should be between them and the Harley shop and not left up to me to pay the differance."

"Avoid this ripoff company at all cost! Filed 2 separate claims; first adjuster went on roof, but didn't even enter house to see inside damage. She never sent a written denial as stated she would. Months later, filed claim for mold/ plumbing leak damage. Again denied, by other adjuster. Reasoning with her was fruitless; no apology or admission of wrongdoing. Their craftily worded policy, interpreted by them of course, serves to result in bogus excuses for denial. "Exclusions" far outweigh coverages. A complete waste of money for mobile home insurance. I wholeheartedly agree with other posted comments. Accountability is needed here; maybe a customer mass exodus or formal joint complaint would be a wake-up call for reform."

"Worst customer service I have ever experienced.I have a boat claim with them and they have done NOTHING to help me through the process !!!!!!! I had to do all the leg work from trying to save my boat engines to finding a mechanic to take it to and had to get someone to tow it since my truck had been totalled at the same time. Will NEVER consider getting any policy through them again and will make sure to do everything possible to discourage others from joining as well !!!!!!!!"
