"Even though this company has accepted premiums for the past 5 months, nearly the full term, they maintain that I have no policy. Of course they did not tell me this until I called to request claim forms. Please, get your insurance somewhere else and save yourself a huge headache."

"I tried submitting a claim for my renter's insurance. I don't know if the item was covered (a package was lost/stolen -- it was only $13 in value; I filed a claim with UPS, too, but they said that there was nothing they could do). However, I called the claims line, talked with an operator who took my details, and was told that I would get a call back. Although I received a letter saying my claim was being investigated, I never received a call, and nothing more has been done in about 1 month."

"I filled a claim with Balboa Insurance on the day that I had my house robbed, I wait a week, but I never heard a thing from them. So, than I start to call the Insurance. I called every day for more than one week and never got a called back. The operator always told me that there was nothing else to be done. That I had to wait to my adjuster call me back. However, after 3 weeks I thought that they owned me a phone call, just to tell me how would work after I make a claim, or what to expect. Only after I got a hold of the supervisor of the supervisor I received a call back. After I never heard from them again, I have a lot of questions and no one to speak to. Balboa never gave a check for the item that have being stolen and has been 3 months already since the claim. Do not make insurance with them. Balboa has no respect to their clients."

"First ajuster said it was settelment and they don't cover that, second ajuster tells us the house shifted and a beam broke from train going by everyday for 60 years. We don't cover that. The company is a scam and the only thing to do is court action. Nothing from nothing is still nothing!So Sue them! I am!"

"OUR HOUSE CAUGHT FIRE ON THE EVENING OF 08/30/07 WHICH, WE LOST A NEW CAR,AND EVERYTHING IN THE GARAGE, THE DOWN STAIRS BDRM AND BATH. ALSO EXTENSIV SMOKE DAMAGE THROUHOUT THE HOUSE. WE CALL BLABOA THE NEXT MORNING AT 5 AM, WAS TOLD THE ADJSTR WILL CALL WITHIN 1-2 DAYS (LABOR WEEKEND) - WAS TOLD BY THE CSR TO CONTACT RED CROSS IN THE MEAN TIME. THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY FAULT WIRING AND RULED ACCIDENTAL. OUR COST ESTIMAT HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED SINCE 10/3/07, TO DATE BALBOA HAS NOT APPROVED THE REPAIRS OR PAID THE PERSONAL PROPERTY LOSS. WE HAVE NOT RECVD A DIME FROM THE INS CO YET, NOR HAS ANY REPAIRS BEEN MADE TO OUR HOME. WE HAVE BEEN LIED TO ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THE CLAIM HAS BEEN SUBMITTED FOR PAYMENT, ONLY TO FIND OUT DAYS LATER THAT IT IS STILL PENING APPROVAL. TO DATE, BALBOA HAS NOT GIVEN ANY EXPLANATION WHILE THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED. THAT SAD PART IS THAT WE ANTICIPATED BEING BACK IN OUR HOME FOR THANKSGIVING, WE NOW NEED TO RENEW OUR RENTAL UNTIL MARCH 2008. WE ARE FILING A SUIT AGAINST BALBOA - THE ADVISE IS NOT TO DEAL WITH AT ALL. WE INTEND TO DROP THE POLICY AS SOON AS THE HOUSE IS REPAIRED. I HATE BALBOA INSURANCE!!!!!! THEY SHOULD NOT EVEN BE ABLE TO CALL THEMSELVE AN INS."

"My vehicle was stolen an hour after I picked up my furs from storage. This was 10-25-07. Today is 12-5-07 and after calling repeatedly, I was told a check for $500.00 will be mailed. One coat, alone, is appraised at $4,000.00, but the max is $500.00 total. They also will not cover my cd's, because I have (oops, had)renters and not homeowners coverage. Too many loopholes!"

"Very Fast and friendly. I was not passed around like several other ins companies I have delt with. They took my info and an adjuster called us back the same day 2 days went by got a rental car already and my car is in the shop. I have reccommended to everyone! They already saved me A TON of money. Very very fast, friendly!! Talk about exceptional follow up"

"BEWARE OF THIS SO-CALLED INSURANCE COMPANY!!! Balboa insurance company is usually sold to you by Countrywide (they bought my loan) and they pretty much force you to use their insurance company (yes, Balboa is owned by Countrywide). They lure you in by offering a lower rate then your local insurance company, but when you have a claim they leave you out in the cold. You can never reach anyone in their Dallas claims office. They never return calls, they switch claim representatives to delay your claim and then pretend they have no idea what the status of your claim is (you then have to tell your story to the next claims rep, and the next... the next ... the next). It's how they delay your claim. Wear you down, so that you'll settle your claim for pennies on the dollar. Believe me you are in for a nightmare if you ever need to file a claim on your homeowners. Months pass before you finally realize that you need to get legal help. If you have Balboa insurance, do yourself a BIG favor and find a local office with a good claim history. Because you will be sorry if you don't. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! Do you research and check with your state insurance commissioner's office - you will see they are a bunch of crooks!"

"THEY DID NOT CARE ABOUT MY CONCERNS OR PROBLEMS! TOOK MY MONEY AND DISREGARDED ANYTHING I ASKED OR TOLD THEM. AFTER A "SURPRISE" VISIT FROM THEIR COMPANY TO ASSESS MY HOUSE, THEY CITED THE MOST INANE, MINUTE POINTS POSSIBLE! "Both my roommate and myself have Balboa Renters Insurance. Trying to reach your claim representatie is challenging. Also, we were told they would mail us a property loss worksheet. Both of us received our letters in the mail but, convenient for Balboa, they forgot to include the actual worksheet. Instead we got a letter saying to fill out the worksheet they didn't send."

"I called the company to ask simple questions. They told me that they can't give me any information over the phone because I'm not a licensed insurance agent. "This is the typical insurance company that is in the business of denying claims. A crane fell on my apartment building in Manhattan. My apt. was not directly hit by the crane, but the emergency workers had to severely damage the apt in order to insure the stability of the building. Balboa wants to deny my claim for property loss, using as a reason that the property was not damaged directly by the crane, so it was not a DIRECT consequence of the accident. But obviously nobody would have cut holes in my floors if the crane had not hit."

"Open a home claim for roof damage due to hail and thunderstorm. Two months has gone by the adjuster has not come out to inspect the home. There has been numerous thunderstorm since then. Maybe Balboa is just waiting for me to pay for my own repairs.!"

"During this devastating hurricane season, we have friends who have already received their checks for repairs and I haven't even been able to get the adjustor out to assess the property and it has already been a month! "Even in the year 2008, this company does not have a website capable of receiving payments from policy holders. They claim to send out billing notices via Postal Mail, but that was sporadic at best, and certainly NOT done in a timely manner. What their Sales Reps say on the phone and what the facts are equal two different realities. Received a notice of expiration of my policy 2 days AFTER it had expired! Rude customer service response to this problem. "

"Due to Ike I now have a claim and I know that alot of other people do too, but I cannot get my inside adjuster to call me back. I have left message after message still no response. "I had the renter's insurance policy well over a year and placed my one and only claim which was denied. First I was told I would receive a call within 48 hours from an agent, it came and went. A week later still nothing. I called numerous times and still no reply. A week and a half later my call is finally returned. She asked me a few questions I answered honestly and then she told me we don't cover that at all. And while trying to reach her I spoke with a few customer service representatives and they told me that I would be covered and they went over the part of the policy that it would be covered under. I just got lame excuses (aka loopholes) as to why they would not cover it. I told her that the customer service representatives told me that it would be covered. The reps even recited the portion of the policy it would be covered under and she told me they cannot do that and that they are wrong. She told me they do not know what they are talking about. Take your business elsewhere or at least to a company where they are all on the same page. I am in the process of looking for a new insurance company that will work for the consumer. I do not recommend this company. "

"We had to wait 2 months after IKE to get an adjuster out. They said they had the wrong phone number. After a few attemps to get them out they finally tried the 2nd phone number and got in touch with us. After the adjuster came out everything went perfect. They actually gave us more than we expected. They gave us money for a new fence that was clearly old and needed to be replaced before IKE. We didn't even mention it to them."

"If you have flood in your house from rain and are not in a water known area, the company does not count it as a coverage, only if it is pipe problems but if new homes are built near by it changes the water table in the ground, but they still say it is not covered by the policy, now i have a house with water damage and no one is covering it"

"I was insured with Balboa for 7 years, with prompt payments and no claims. This year, in the middle of winter and with only the minimum required notice, they informed me that they would not renew me because of the condition of my roof. I asked for an extension until summer because I can't repair the roof in the middle of winter, but they would not give me the extension. "

"After Hurricane IKE, I was pleased with the help I received after TDI, TX Dept. of Insurance, assisted me with my claim. My mom suffered a stroke a week after the storm, so I had to relocate quickly to help her. There were some special circumstances regarding my situation and claim. I have been treated fairly and have noy minded exercising a little patience. As a disabled Veteran, I have been happy with my overall experience; I am very glad I paid my policy in full up front!"

"Horrible customer service and claims handling!!! I filed a claim for roof damage recently. They were extremely slow to send out the adjuster, then nothing. Not a word for over three weeks. My insurance broker couldn't reach them, either. Finally, I received a very impersonal voice mail giving me an absurdly low roof replacement value that was well below my deductible and they were refusing the claim. Then, when I called back to find out what was going on, I was hung up on twice and then they stopped answering my calls altogether. Stay away from this company at all costs!!!!"

"I had frozen pipe claim, adjuster did come out, I spoke with person handling my claim, sent in necessary documents, everything seemed ok. That was, until it was time to pay up they have been stalling, delaying payment by not returning calls in a timely manner, switching me over to another claims person, who claims they just received my case (yea right), I believe she step #2 in the delay game. Well, I have had enough I'm filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner and/or small claim court, whichever gets me my money first. I expected to have some problems because after all it is countrywide insurance. Run as fast as you can, sounds like a class action waiting to happen. Where do I sign up? "

"The claims adjuster was extremely slow in returning my calls. I had to call him 3 to 4 times a day and then he would return my call the following day. If I was unavailable he would not call me again until I called him 3 to 4 additional times. My home got hit by lightning but the adjuster stated that it was under my deductable (can you believe it). I had serveral items listed in the damage report. The inspector who came out took pictures of the damaged items clearly showing lightning damage but the adjustor stated that I had to get a repair company to sign an affiadavit stating that the items were damaged by lightning."

"Lightening struck my home in June and everything electronic was fried. Called the company and the adjuster was prompt at coming out to my home and confirming damage. The adjuster filed his report and I receive a call from the claims agent (not adjuster) and told that I would need to have everything checked out by a technician to prove it was damaged. I payed several hundreds of dollars technicians to confirm damage and sent Balboa the reports. Was told 2 months later that I would have to take everything back to the technicians and have them fill out a lightening damage affidavit. This means that I will have to pay again to have the items looked at. This company is conducting business in a fraudulent manner. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BALBOA!"

"Their customer service and claims handling processes are a joke. Balboa adjusters have no urgency in handling your loss. You do want to get back to normal as soon as possible, but they have no regard to that fact. Often when you attempt contact, you are sent to voicemail, and they never return calls. If you are looking for a customer service oriented company, keep searching. "

"The "system" somehow canceled my policy. I call them and they say that the policy is active again. Six months later when I want to renew, it turns out I was never covered. I wanted to renew and my only option was to pay for the renewal and they would keep the money for the past term that I was not covered. How crooks can that be? ohh and wait... the cust. serv. rep. said that they were doing me a favor. Thank you Balboa Ins. your reps. really suck."

"Victim being victimized Even though the insurance business is totally a joke, this is very much an open robbery. It this most ridicules process I have went through. My car was hit while parked and I am having a nightmare dealing with the claim department. The FACT is that Balbo insurance company victimized me. They took full advantage of collecting a premium and now they degrading my car as it have no value. “A miscarriage of justice”. They are manipulative hypocrites and they don’t care ANYTHING about costumer. The adjuster spoke the whole time and she was keep cut me off when I try to dialogue with her. It took 3 freaking months to solve a problem. They are good for nothing. "

"Our house was built in 1955, we have lived here for over two years, and when we got a new Balboa insurance group, they say we have to have hand rails on 4 stairs, after they gave us a policy.Now demanding this or they will cancel. We declined to put hand rails on, and will tell our neighbors, So the point is that they will send us a refund, and that will put us back in escrow more. A royal pain. People need to do more research before committing to any policy and read what other people are saying about them. A lesson learned, so beware! There should not be extra add on after the fact."

"They sent me a statement and I sent them a check, a few days latter they sent me a past due notice and a notice of non coverage. when I called them I was told that my coverage was cancelled until I paied the premimum so paied the premimum over the phone with my credit card. according to my bank statement the check arrived the same day as my credit card payment. I was told at the time of the credit card payment, if the check arrived they would refund one of the payments. It has been about sixty days and dispite two phone calls I have not received a refund for the double payment,and have been given the run around story that the check was mailed."
