"The lost paperwork lack of decisions in a timely manner and the inability to return a call is frustrating enough. The expectation that we do all the footwork between doctors and them and the requirement to fax the same information over and over was exhausting. They paid me 500 a month less than I was supposed to be getting and it was a mistake that wasn't discovered until I made inquiry's as to how they could charge me more than Social Security was paying me for my SSD backpay. There are no time frames for decisions that affect my livelihood and no accountability for them. And their final decisions that my issues were mental and not physical was perfectly worded in a letter from the Independent Medical Examiner that they sent me to and paid the bill. Ironically They are still saying I owe them money and should go back to work. Which is the opposite of my SSD claim and all the doctors and psychiatrist I have seen. "

"I had long term disability with this company -Reliance Standard. I had all my paperwork sent to them. I was assured by my caseworker that my claim would be processed in less than a month. In 6 weeks they told me my records were lost. I had to while ill follow up on records re- request them. I then got threatened that they were closing my case because it was the 6 week window. I complained to the caseworker's higher up. He told me that with all of my medical problems " my case was guaranteed". I waited 4 months. No income. I was literally counting coins to pay for groceries. I was not eligible for medical assistance. My job was terminated. I was told by reliance not to file for unemoyment because it would result in " an overpayment". Luckily I did not take that caseworkers advise. Because I was denied their ltd. I am still ill. I ended up going back to work at another job. But thankfully my new employer does not have this carrier if I should ever require such a service again. These people lied and treated me horribly on a time of illness. "

"The health insurance that we were automatically switched to was a joke I ended up in the ER after having this insurance for 2 months. When we contacted them for our group number and plan information they gave us the run around and tried to say we weren't covered. After many calls and talking with various "managers" we finally got the information that we needed. A month later we got a statement saying that they only pay up to 50 of all ER bills and it can only be used 3 times per year. The sad thing is if we didn't provide the hospital with the insurance information we would have been given a 750 "no insurance" deduction. DO NOT USE RELIANCE STANDARD"

"I got approved for short term disability two months after filing then had to wait an additional two weeks before they sent out a check..but checks never came on a decent day always out of order didn't receive my first ckeck til almost a week and a half later but they say they had mailed it out on a Monday days went by other checks came the same way taking over a week to get after it says that a check had been sent out I called to see if they had direct deposit no direct deposit. I'm like this company sucks I have bills to pay with this pityful check that comes whenever they decide to send it ..I will.not be using their service in the future."

"Will not return calls. All paperwork is in order . I have called every day for 2 weeks. Now they forward me to the agent over seeing my claim and I get voicemail. I leave a msg and never recieve a return phone call. Looks like I will have to get an attorney and call insurance commissioner ."

"Terrible customer service. I had dental coverage through Reliance Standard and had a claim for a filling denied because I went to the dentist in the middle of January. I was told that since my company wasn't open for the week of Christmas that there was a lapse in my coverage for a week in January. That's not the worst part. In April I needed to undergo a root canal. I couldn't afford the crown so I just received a build-up. To make sure I didn't have a lapse in coverage I called twiceBoth reps told me that the build up was covered. 3 months and tons of phone calls later they are still denying the claim for the build up they promised me was covered. Scumbag company. Terrible people. I wonder how they sleep at night."

"I was forced to retire early from a job that I loved. I was a municipal worker insured through the city. After I was quickly approved for SSD Reliance stopped paying my additional benefits and never even notified my when they began or why. It took me three months to get a letter stating that they found me to be capable of going to work despite letters from my doctors telling them that I could not. They are now stonewalling me and my doctors and will not budge despite multiple medical reports and documentation. They want me to see a doctor or theirs who I am sure will come down on their side. I am going to get a lawyer. NEVER BUY INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY."

"I had to have a medically necessary surgery Reliance approved my procedure before my surgery then 2 weeks after my procedure they unapproved it saying the procedure was medically unnecessary. They owe me 4 weeks worth of pay and are unwilling to pay I have notes from my doctor explaining the procedure and they are still unwilling to work with me."

"This company is all about stalling payment. Will not call back. Will not answer emails. Takes weeks for approval by the third person. Sitting on a desk going no where. "

"This insurance was provided through my previous employer. While they finally approved my claim the verbiage in their correspondence is the type that you either need a lawyer to understand or someone who deals with these claims. They constantly want me to go back to my doctor so they can have records to review or they will deny my claim and stop my monthly checks which are my only income. I have no health insurance anymore and have made them aware of this. They know how much they send me every month as well as the fact that a disc in my lower back has completely degenerated. They must think the disc will spontaneously regenerate? Yet they insist I return. I guess they care more about paperwork than the fact they are taking food out of my mouth. They are making it almost impossible to just barely squeak by on what they send. "

"My wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This company was the disability and the life insurance carrier for her company. First thing they kept doing is loosing her paperwork and we had to keep sending back the disability paperwork again and again. it took over 6 months for them to finally send a check.Second when my wife passed they said that they did not have on record a waver of premium request which allowed my wife to not have to pay premiums because of her illness. they are refusing to pay the life insurance policy because they cant find that paperwork. I have the letter they sent to my wife which had the form attached and the company my wife worked for said they were sending disability checks so they should have this paperwork. Now it looks as if Lawyers have to be involved we are going to have to go to court to fight for my wifes insurance money. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY"

"Over 6 months after my husbands debilitating stroke he still has not received a dime of his disability insurance. They were quick to tell me that any social security benefits will diminish what hes due from Reliance Standard but its difficult to go down from zero. I guess next theyll be asking me for money. Horrible company selected by his employer. Id never do business with them on my own"

"No information up front about extent of coverage. No coverage in certain areas of medical expenses (i.e. Mental Health). It seems that the customer gets very little in return for the premiums they pay. I would not recommend this company to anyone who is looking for insurance, and would suggest to employees who have this insurance to find another plan on their own."

"I had a long term disability claim. I was sent a letter by this company stating they would promptly address my claim and within 5 to 7 business days make a decision. It has been 2 months with no decision. I have called every day. Every day I get a different answer. My medical info from the doctor was received 3 weeks ago. They drag their tail about every single thing. They collected payments from me for 4 years for this insurance but when time comes to pay out they hold out as long as they can. This place lies and must teach their employees to do the same. Their employess are very rude and they try to put you off. Makes me never want to do business with them again. I never will."

"Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with, I have a LTD policy of which I took out in 2005, got hurt on the job and have been disabled ever since, to this date I am still having trouble collecting. Had to hire an attorney to try to collect, when everything is in black and white according to their policy. "

"Very very poor an unsatisfactory work by the company. Not even reporting due dates of policy. No response for the customer request. Not getting Recepit of paid premium although i made a online request via customer service. Seriously, not suggesting Realince life insurance"

"I have a chronic illness that has made it impossible for me to work. When I first submitted my disability paperwork to Reliance they approved me. I then applied to Social Security, and was approved the first time I applied (without any legal counsel helping my case). That should say something about my condition. Now, two years later, Reliance has suddenly determined that my disability no longer meets their definition and are trying to cut off their payments. It is my opinion that they (Reliance Standard), have questionable business ethics, at best."

"Reliance provided me with disability insurance through my employer for 24 mos. After 24 mos. they suddenly told me I was not sick, I was mentally ill, thus only eligible for 24 mos of payment. They totally ignored every lab test and Dr.s report provided to them. I have had to hire an attorney to appeal this claim. My attorney says they for sure will deny the appeal and force me to go to court. My attorny says it is standard procedure to deny. "

"Billing was a mess. They could not send us accurate information. We had to find their errors and have them correct them. There was an extreme lack of communication with us when setting up our account and since then. We wonder what will happen if we have to file a claim. We are not confident that it will be handled properly or in a timely manner."

"The company cancelled our Long Term Disability Insurance without an explanation and our rate stayed the same. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I am calling my insurance broker to see is we can switch to a different provider, because I am afraid of what might happen if we had to use them."

"I had to hire a lawyer, and they still are dragging their feet. The policies are misleading, and they change the rules as they go. Actually, they change the rules after you file a claim. "

"I was in an accident the permanently disabled me from any further employment. Reliance sot only stepped up to the plate, they rushed in to the rescue. They have more than uphelp the policy for the past 14 years without a so much as a blink. I would reccoment them to anyone at anytime, which is something extremely difficult to say about most insurance companies. I know that from experience, also. If I could, I'd go out and advertise for them."

"In collecting life insurance I got the run-around and had to get my husband's company to intervene so I could collect within a reasonable time. It was two months before they put the funds in a money market and sent me a checkbook. Then I wrote a check, and they bounced it. The money is there, but they are making it difficult to withdraw it. Three months after I submitted the claim, and I still haven't seen a dime of the life insurance money."

"Stay away from this company. Reliance has no incentive to pay claims, only to deny claims that merit benefits. They are under liqidation with the PA State Insurance... "

" Reliance Standard Life dose not investigate claims from insurance cariers they make up their own minds and that is that you are done the only thing you can do is cancle the policy or retain a lawyer file claim with state atturney general so they will be fined and kicked out of state "
