"HORRIBLE. i was insured with them for a year or so without issue. one month i came down with a very painful eye infection, and made a doctor's appointment. i paid for my insurance once every three months. after i made the appointment, i realized that the bill i usually receive in the mail was a few days late, so i called carefirst to make sure everything was okay. nope, not okay. they CANCELLED my health insurance three months prior with NO notice to me, and for NO reason. i was uninsured, and no one at CareFirst could tell me why. carefirst cashed my previous payment, but they didn't apply it to my insurance. again, nobody could offer an explanation as to why this happened. and, to make life really easy, carefirst initially refused to refund me the payment i had made that they cashed but didn't apply. they offered to apply it to my future payments, but in order to re-new i had to pay for the months i wasn't covered - doesn't that make sense? obviously, i switched insurance companies immediately. now, my wife, who i begged to change companies, is having problems. she needed emergency medical attention, and carefirst refuses to cover the bill. thanks carefirst! also, their customer service sucks, their phone menu tends to disconnect you, and they are more expensive than their competitors. avoid avoid avoid!"

"I used a "Preferred Provider" but was required by them to pay up front for the service. I have been trying to get reimbursed by CareFirst for the last 6 months. Each time I call I am told that it is being processed and to wait 14 to 21 business days. Nothing every changes and no one can tell me what is wrong with the claim. Terrible service. "

"I am on the Federal Government's Care First family plan. Service is prompt and the company honors all plan promises."

"I have been dealing with the same claim for more than 6 months. After several stall tactics and an initial denial of my claim, Carefirst asked me to submit documentation of treatment from my provider. This documentation has been sitting in the Carefirst office for more than 60 days and they say that a nurse has still not reviewed my claim. My claim is completely within the coverage of my plan, and I even checked with Carefirst before treatment to make sure it was covered. I do not suggest anyone work with Carefirst if they plan on filing a claim of any kind."

"I called before I received treatment with a psychologist to make sure it would be covered in my plan and I was assured it would be. Two months later I got a rejection notice for missing paperwork. My doctor immediately filed everything they asked for. That was 3 months ago and they are still "investigating". I am told it could take 6 more months. "
