"**** Let's qualify the NO******** ***** When my father became seriously ill , my 80 year old mother needed help in explaining their services and how to file a claim - she did not know how so requested assistance from Bankers Life and Casualty a company my Dad has been paying into since 1999. Bankers Life sent agents to assist her, instead they tried to hard sell her with additional plans to better cover my mother. They did not in any way offer support, services or assistance in describing what they did cover.... only gave a hard sell on more services. Our impression is that they are very bonus driven and do not care very much for their customers......I hope this is not true, but so far, they have not been in contact with her - even though they said they would. I would not recommend this plan to an elderly couple......you're better able to battle an oily snake.... "

"My agent has always been professional, knowledgeable and more than helpful with any questions and concerns that my wife and I have had. We have made several claims on doctor's and hospital visits and all were paid quickly."
2007-06-06 18:26:05 EST

"Great company!!!!!!!!!"
2007-07-26 18:28:00 EST

"Having a professional agent makes it easy to get our claims paid. My parents saved a ton of money on their Medicare Supplement when I did some research and switched them to Bankers."
2007-09-26 17:49:14 EST

"They really put you through the ringer to say the least, they do not pay well at all on Home Health Care claims and are alwyas raising their premiums and then try to cancel the policy!!!! What a chore that is, they will take your money but fight you on claims al the time. They act like they don't have themoney to pay the claims, or just don't want to."

"This Company is not user friendly. To just talk on the phone to a knowledgable is a real hastle. After 45 minutes I gave up. First a caller has to select the purpose of his/her call from a set of numbers only to be requested to select another number. Then the caller must wait. When (ten minutes later) someone does answer, they take all of the personal information only to tell the caller that they will transfer you to someone who can answer you questions. Now the caller must wait another 10 minutes plus. At this point the caller gets disconnected and the frustrated caller gets to start all over again. The caller at this point wonders why he/she ever signed up with Bankers Life and Casualty Company. No wonder this company is not in the top 20. From my experience with other insurance companies, I would probably put his company in the bottom twenty."
2007-10-19 23:28:53 EST

"This company has always been quick to take care of claims filed. When needed they have been helpful with my questions."
2007-10-24 16:41:58 EST

"We are very impressed with our agent. She is very knowledgable, and comes back to review our plans with us every year. We have refferred her to many of our freinds who were paying too much for their insurance with AArp. We never use a 1-800 number because we have our agents cell phone number and she always calls us back within a day.I feel bad for those folks who had a bad experience, they should call and get a new agent not a new company."
2007-10-25 19:37:34 EST

"Based on my experiences with Bankers I find it hard to believe people have had much trouble with the company. I've never had to call any prompt system or be on hold to get help or talk to someone. I simply call my agent and either talk to them or get a call back. I have no trouble with the plan paying out and have saved a lot of money since we switched. It was one of the best decisions my wife and I ever made."
2007-11-08 06:50:42 EST

"Bankers agents are always trying to sell smething else .Regarding claims. My parents paid on their LTC insurance for years 14 to be exact.paying in over 25000 in premium dollars.Recently my dad died and had outstanding claims that in the policy stated should be covered.Bankers denied the claims(which were approx. 1500 dollars).Only after an angry letter from our attorney did they pay.Needless to say after attorney costs and calls to bankers by the attorney my parent got 0."
2007-11-08 10:18:10 EST

"MAILED A SMALL UNPAID CLAIM $ 10.19 TO THE CLAIMS OFFICE 3 MONTHS AGO. CALLED & THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T RECEIVE IT. DID IT AGAIN A WEEK AGO, STILL NO WORD"
2007-11-10 14:03:09 EST

"I use to work for this company and they will back stab anyone they can! It is an awful company! They will even try and sell someone life insurance when they can't afford it, i.e. when they are on Medicaid and can barely pay for everday needs.Do not use this company at all!"
2007-11-20 10:54:44 EST

"They use high pressure tactics on the elderly and make it extremely difficult to cancel policy and lie about recieving faxes and mail that is not certified."
2007-11-22 03:16:10 EST

"I think they are paid to deny claims. They are always asking for the same information over and over again. They just had a rate increase on my parents long term care insurance. I like my agent, and not sure why they stay with a company that is obtaining a very bad reputation. This is our 5th agent, this one is a woman and does not try to push other sales on us, though the previous 5 agents did. If my health allowed it, I would switch to another company, unfortunately it does not so I can not."
2007-12-02 09:43:45 EST

"This company has always treated me well, I work with a young agent in the Mishawaka Indiana Office who has always been available for phone contact, I would recommend this company to ANYONE who wants reliability, if you are one of the unfortunate who have had problems, get a new agent not a new company. As a whole this company is amazing, claim experience and proffessionalism are impressive. You should call your local Bankers office and make a change"
2007-12-08 22:01:27 EST

"My mother's long term care policy. She has been in an assisted living care facility since May, 2007, as Banker's Life and Casualty would not cover any costs for family members caring for their aging parents. It is now December, 2007, and we have not received any coverage payments. We cannot even get a return call from the agent."
2007-12-18 15:25:03 EST

"when filing a death claim for my who died in October, i found it very disturbing that the different divisions of BankersLife do not communicate with each other. i filed the claim with the death certificate, along with the beneficuary's death certificate(my mother who died 5 years ago)now they started sending correspondence to my deceased mother, and sending letters to my father asking why he cancelled his policy. I am fed up with them. "
2007-12-27 19:55:54 EST

"The worst company to deal with regarding long term care insurance. There should be a criminal investigation. They should not be allowed to continue selling these poicies."
2008-01-10 12:10:31 EST

"Do not pay claims; they ask for medicare payment copies several times..mailing copies, faxing copies and telephone calls to them bring no response. Presently, they are 6 months behind in paying claims. I'm in process of gathering info for Michigan Insurance Commissioner and also considering an attorney. "
2008-01-20 15:08:28 EST

"I feel bad for all those who maybe had problems with Bankers. I used to work for them and the trouble that they go thru to make sure something is right for the customer is almost beyond belief. I left to start my own business and I only have great things to say about them. In NH they are the best bunch of agents always helpful. I called mine the other day due to a missed premium problem solved 3 days later it was my fault for switching banks and not letting them know of the change. All I have to say is great Co. "
2008-01-23 14:47:42 EST

"My Mother's long term care insurance through Bankers Life ( a division of Conseco ) has been very difficult to work with, not consumer friendly. "
2008-01-17 17:06:23 EST

"I AM BILLED MY TERM POLICY ON A MONTHLY BASIS BUT IT'S CHEAPER TO PAY QUARTERLY OR ANNUALLY. I PAID ANNUALLY THEN NEVER RECIEVED ANOTHER BILL. THAT WAS A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I GET VERY BUSY AND DID NOT REALIZE IT HAD BEEN OVER A YEARSINCE I HAD BEEN BILLED. I PAY MY BILLS ON-LINE THATS HOW I REALIZED I HAD NOT RECIEVED A BILL, SO I SENT THEM 175.00 EXPECTING I WOULD GET A BILL FOR THE DIFFERENCE. THEY CASHED THE CHECK BUT I STILL HAVE NOT RECIEVED A BILL. I'M JUST AS CERTAIN THAT I HAVE NO COVERAGE. I HAVE HAD MY POLICY FOR ABOUT 23 YEARS."

"My experiences have been good. I'm surprised everyones' havent been. I have referred family and friends to my agent."
2008-02-15 06:50:08 EST

"Do not buy any financial insruments from this company!!! terrible service, very slow payment of claims. "
2008-02-09 13:39:51 EST

"They are uncoperative"
2008-02-21 02:18:48 EST

"This company uses stall tactics to get out of paying claims. The customer service in the corporate office is horrible, and the local office is not much better. I can't even get a local manager to return the numerous calls I have left for him."
2008-07-18 17:54:47 EST

"Oh my god. This company, Bankers Life, and the scummy evil agencies they contract with are bottom feeders of the worst order. I can't tell you about it all in a note. It is way to complicated to describe. Just trust me, they are the scum of the earth. They prey upon old people who do not have a clue as to what is going on. If I could, I would put this outfit and everyone who works for them out of business. And it just gets worse and worse. DO NOT have anything to do with these creeps. "
2008-03-05 04:06:39 EST

"Great Agent an company"
2008-03-17 20:58:41 EST

"I have worked for this company, and they are worst than you can imagine. They sell you an annuity, then try to get you money back or in a reasonable time, no luck. I had to have people write across their request form, Mail Overnight, Need Funds Immediately, no help. When clients call, it is always, we did not receive the mail, went to wrong dept., or some excuse, please fill out p/w again!! Remember, I helped the clients sent in the forms, I called on their behalf and still not results. It even took seven weeks to get an immediate annuity to get started. People who are complaining are not lying!!!"
2008-03-20 11:28:44 EST

"I was told by my Banker's Life agent that I could always get the surrendable cash value if I wanted to cancel. NOT! He is no longer with the company. I am going to pursue this legally if I cannot get what I paid into it. Very unhelpful!"
2008-03-26 22:25:03 EST

"BANKERS LIFE AND CASUALTY COMPANY IS BAD NEWS WHEN IT COMES TO RECEIVING CLAIMS FROM THEM. MY HOSPITAL INDEMNITY POLICY IS NEVER DENIED THE CLAIM BY THEM, ONLY WITHHELD INDEFINITELY.FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH,DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY."
2008-03-27 12:16:55 EST

"Bankers is an excellent company and tries to look out for the ederly. They can not sell insurance products to people who it is not suitable for, their underwriting will deny the application and return the premium. And we had a 30 day free look period to decide if we wanted to keep the policies we bought. We were very pleased and had our agent bring the policies back to us and answered all of the questions we thought of after the purchase but before the 30 day look started."
2008-03-26 11:11:08 EST

"this company is not worth my time to comment on. Just beware& don't do business with them"
2008-04-27 23:23:38 EST

"My elderly mother bought insurance through Bankers Life including two policies for my children. I remember that she was very unhappy dealing with the company before she died, and now that I have to deal with the company, I've been waiting two months for a simple check to be insued in a matter it would only take State Farm less than two weeks. The first check was supposedly mailed and never arrived (funny how their premium notices have no problem finding their way to my mail box) and then when I called them to tell them the check was late, they cancelled that check, but neglected to issue a new one, so I had another wait before calling them again... and now, six working days after they said they'd send me a check I call to find out it's going to be another 3 days before the check's issued. This is not how the financial services industry works, and I will be filing a complaint with my state's dept. of commerce."
2008-05-06 13:54:58 EST

"They lie !!!!"
2008-05-16 16:16:04 EST

"My elderly parents had long term care policy with Bankers Life for years. In Feb 2004 my mom went into assisted living and Dad entered a nursing home. My sister went around and around with Bankers for six months before they finally began paying for their care. Our poor 81 year old mother worried herself sick that the company was never going to pay and that she'd have to move out of her AL apartment. She called my sister almost daily in tears about it. Bankers eventually paid the claims. Mom and Dad both passed away in Dec 2007 and the nightmare with Bankers has begun once again. My siblings and I have been attempting to collect on life insurance policies held by our folks. Bankers mailed me a thick packet of papers to fill out back in Febuary. Filled them, mailed them back in the envelope they provided and waited for the check. Nothing. They said they never received it. Faxed them papers, "fax never received". Called them numerous times, calls were disconnected repeatedly, messages were NEVER returned. Still waiting for claim settlement. Wish I knew what to do to remedy this problem. I hope my children have me declared imcompetent if I ever make noises like I'm considering taking out any kind of policy with Bankers Life. I just hope that their deplorable customer service doesn't put them out of business before they pay our claim!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!"
2008-05-18 18:42:39 EST

"I've been working on making a long term health care claim from this company for EIGHT LONG months. It took two months just to get all the volumes of papers necessary to make the claim, partially because it needed to be done retroactively since none of the family members knew enough about the policy to make the claim initially. The policy holder died before the family could even get the first claim made. The claims department repeatedly continues to ask for papers we've submitted multiple times, but they can't find them. Since you get a different person every time you call, there's NO follow through on their part to make sure the claim is processed. It isn't that they've told us no to the claim, they just keep telling us to jump through more hoops. I would NOT advise anyone to buy long term health insurance from them!"

"Mother died back in December, 2007, leaving two annuities. The one left to her second husband was eventually paid to his power of attorney. Banker's has yet to honor the claim for the second, left to her sister, two daughters and a foster child. First Bankers tried to tack on two extra beneficiaries. No explanation how they got there. They weren't added through her agent or anyone else at the local branch. Yet they were perfectly fine with it. Covering for larcenous home office executives, perhaps? These names disappeared two weeks after we started questioning it. Then came the phony excuses: "A lot of people died this month. We're back-logged." "Your claim was directed to the wrong department." By the end of February we began to ask why the annuity was never distributed. A letter came that alluded to a previous letter (never received) asking for three documents from each beneficiary they must have before payment. We complied immediately. Another month passed. We called again. It seemed there were other forms we needed to send. As before I sent them out to the others to be signed and returned. Two weeks later I was assured everything was in order. It would be paid in 10 to 20 business days. Another month passed. We called again. Now they discovered the policy was written in a strange way with Mother as the owner and me as the annuitant. It was no longer a death claim; it was a surrender. More forms. It would be processed within 20 business days. Nothing. I called again and so did my agent. The forms were received. Everything's in order. Please allow 10 business days. In the meantime I got a weird letter saying they were changing my address "as requested to "c/o (my name) Friendswood, Tx." Ten days later I called again to be sure they had my address right. I also asked if the check had been issued. It hadn't. They faxed me another form, which I filled out and returned. By now it is quite clear that they will not be paying the claim. We are exploring legal action. "
2008-05-31 10:48:23 EST

"This has always been a top notch company for me and my family. We have never had to fight to get a claim paid. Would send anyone I truly care about to them and not worry that we would still be close after that."
2008-05-31 15:21:03 EST

"Ok for all the people who are complaining about there parents Long Term Care policy, Try this, review the policy with the agent or yourself. Look for something called an elimination period, for all those saying their parents didnt recieve care for 6 months or 3 months, look closely at the policy. If there is an elimination period on there, it means they are not gonna recieve care for that long! You really have to research these policies or at least be there when your parents sign up. Everything is clearly stated in the policy. And just a side note, in the elimination period, the days dont count unless that person is actually recieving care, and it cant be care provided by a family member, it has to be a licensed person giving the care. If you want to make sure your parents are set up in the correct way, be there when they actually take a plan of action out. Dont blame the company when its you unfortunate ones who do not review their parents policies. They signed off on them. And for the medicade people who have life insurance, if you get buried by the state, do you know what happens, you go straight from the morgue to the crematory...unless someone is going to pay for it. So if someone on medicade has life insurance its because they would like to have a proper burial and dont want their kids or family to pay for. "
2008-06-04 23:34:12 EST

"My husband took a a life insurance policy 5 months before he died of cardiac arrest at the age of 48. I can understand thier review of the claim because he didn't have it long before he passed away. But they are driving me crazy not sending all the forms they say I have to fill out. Give excuses on why it they weren't sent with the first batch of papers to fill out. They are a terrible company to do business with."
2008-07-07 12:13:06 EST

"the left hand does not know what the right hand has done.... recenty the person(Agent) that is helping me was told that they would not call me personaly about my account but would give the agent information to pass on to me. I am not sure I would get past the front desk to somebody who knows what is going on with my account if I called.... managment customer transparency does not exist .... "
2008-07-14 16:10:32 EST

"We have a Medicare Supplement policy with Bankers Life, and a Medicare Drug plan with them, and so far they have paid promptly. However, the fantastic agent that sold us the policy has now left the company, and her replacement met us last month. This week two different agents called us to say that they are our "new" agents (#3 and #4--one for me and one for my wife??), since the 2nd agent has already left the company???? Why are all of the agents leaving the company?"
2008-07-22 17:18:30 EST

"This company is misleading and coerce consumers into buying something they do not need or afford"
2008-07-18 18:52:57 EST

"This company coerce me into writing an annuity for myself to keep my job. I decided to leave the company and then cancell my policy. I cancell the policy during the 30 day free-look. Corporate office was about to issue me a check and the local branch where I was employed called their corporate office and instructed them not to cancell. A few months later, I did not get my check and calls after calls. They found no reason to keep my money 6 months after the request was put in. I am seeking compensation for the period they had my money and file a complaint with the Insurance Commissioner. I am hoping for resolution soon. Beware of doing business with Bankers Life and Casualty Company or work for them."
2008-07-18 19:03:24 EST

"I have a Medicare Supp policy with Bankers. When my doctor files a claim, it is months before I get anything from bankers on what they have paid. They have no way on line to check on your claims. To be such and old company and established company, they are so out of date. Everything has to go through their agents and some of them don't really care about your problems. All they want is to sell and make a commission. Not really interested in your problem. If there is a chance to sell you something they will show up."
2008-08-16 23:48:53 EST

"Stay away... they sound good but after they have your money you never hear from them again and trying to get through their phone system to talk to someone is impossible"
2008-07-25 14:54:27 EST

"They handled everything quickly and easily. My agent is so nice and answered all of my questions about Medicare. Bankers Life really is for seniors."
2008-07-28 19:26:27 EST

"They are great at getting you to become insured but if there is any problems they will not bother to return calls."
2008-07-28 21:13:03 EST

"I have an annuity with bankers life and casualty. Trying to save on taxes I ended up paying $6000.00 in federal taxes because I had poor advice from bankers annuity. Federal tax advisers encouraged me to discuss the problem with bankers annuity to no avail. I am unable to get any questions answered about how to close out this account with the least amount of penalty. Hopefully some good will come out of my mistake - you will think twice before tying your money up in an annuity. "
2008-08-02 11:39:12 EST

"My mom has had home health care insurance since 1996 and has paid faithfully and promptly. Now we've filed a claim in 2008. First claim they received was in March, it's now August and NO PAYMENT. I get the run around each time I call and every two weeks they need a new piece of information. I've sent in the same information countless times and still nothing. The agents are rude and totally uncaring. They never receive anything sent the first time, there is always a follow up on my part. Faxes seem to fall in a black hole. The only thing they acknowledge is a receipted piece of mail. It is against their policy to call you or a doctor for a one word addition to a form. I tried to get them to call the doctor for approval on the words "24/7" that he inadvertently forgot to fill in. NOPE!! They don't take information over the phone. The only customer service this company knows and practices is POOR customer service. I would never ever recommend this company to anyone, ever."
2008-08-06 15:20:35 EST

"Poor commmunication between agent, client and health care agency."
2008-08-05 22:51:15 EST

"Bankers is an excellent company. I think the experience you get with any insurance company, including Bankers Life, depends on your agent. I believe with any large insurance company checks can get lost or misplaced.. and that you won't always get the anwsers your looking for unless you get a strong/responsive agent working for you. Insurance companies all offer similar products and will pay claims.. it is choosing your agent with the company that is most important."
2008-08-07 23:23:02 EST

"Great Company, good service... "
2008-08-10 02:42:21 EST

"Banker's life long term health care policy is a complete and total waste of money. The company has no intention of ever paying a dime to the policy holder. My mother has been living in a senior living community (assisted living) and we have been applying for benefits for 12 months now, and not only has my mom not received a dime she is still paying $100.00 a month to keep a worthless, policy active. "
2008-08-10 19:31:36 EST

"Worst company I have ever dealt with!"
2008-08-14 11:20:25 EST

"Tried to cancel application one week after applying and asked for refund of deposit...have received only pressure phone calls which I now consider to be harassment!!!"
2008-08-23 13:04:32 EST

"Great company!!!!"
2008-08-24 22:59:00 EST

"Great"
2008-09-02 16:03:31 EST

"Less than 6 months of owning the policy, my husband had a massive heart attack and 100% of bills were paid. the agent was very helpful during this trying time."
2008-09-06 17:48:21 EST

"I had been an agent for this company for 9 years. I can't believe I stayed with them that long. Now that I'm no longer with them I can see how unprofessional and fraudulent they really are. I once had pride representing them. Now, I can't see how they stay in business and how their agents stay out of jail."
2008-09-09 21:14:20 EST

"Great company, you can find dirt with any company, for seniors there is nothing better."
2008-09-15 20:38:32 EST

"Repeatedly requested information already provided. Insisted on authorization to seek hospital records for period when there was no hospitilization- when a phone call to the hospital would have indicated such fact (via third party information collector who d seemed more intent on having a cause to bill than on collecting accurate information and servicing claimants)."
2008-10-02 15:15:50 EST

"It has been a great experience."
2008-09-30 10:57:59 EST

"Agents, including managers, are poorly informed. Service is like pulling teeth and extremely slow."
2008-09-30 16:14:49 EST

"I took out a Long Term Care Policy in 2002 paying $134.00 per month for coverage even though I was only 57 at the time. Since that policy was issued by premium has gone up 70% for the same coverage (monthly now $245) and from what I now read, they are very difficult to deal with. I have cancelled my policy!"
2008-10-03 10:39:04 EST

"Agent put my money in an indexed annuity. Misled me about my options. Agent will not help me with any follow up questions for service. She is criminal."
2008-10-06 00:59:31 EST

"Agent whited out three signatures on three ploicies.FRAUD. He is still with company!!"
2008-10-08 11:14:10 EST

"love em "
2008-10-12 15:13:21 EST

"Don't let Bankers Life or Conseco into your life, your home, or even near your garbage."
2008-10-12 17:29:05 EST

"The company goes to great lengths to make it as inconvenient as possible to speak with anyone. they are deceptive in their practices and their behaviour is fraudulent. I am consulting an attorney. They have refused to pay any benefits on a long term hlth care policy for an 85 yr old who reqs home hlth assitance. DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM THEM!"
2008-10-15 07:53:59 EST

"Upon the annual renewal date, the company tries to get me to "upgrade" to a new policy. I overheard the two agents talking at a local resturant: "never renew, always upgrade to a new policy" that way, we get full commission. The new policy may not give the best coverage but, who cares, it's all about us making the most commission." About an hour after hearing this, these two showed up at my door inquiring about my annual renewal! When I confronted them about what I overheard in the resturant, they denied even being there. They quickly left and said just to mail the premium in. "
2008-10-16 15:47:43 EST

"bankers life is the biggest bunch of crooks i HAVE EVER MET"
2008-10-20 16:55:44 EST

"Please people, know what you are buying!! ANY company will not pay your family to care for you - it's called LIABILITY!!! I love the agent, company and policy! I have referred many people, friends and family to them!! They've been around for so long!!"
2008-10-29 01:43:58 EST

"After you get an agent he/she will be different next year. The only thing the new agent is interested in talking to you about is increasing your coverage. "
2008-10-28 12:03:25 EST

"This company stonwalls on paying for long term care insurance. My father finally started receiving payment when he had to move to a higher level of care in another facility. Since July (it's now November), he has not received a single payment. The company keeps telling me that it takes time. Why would it take 4 months to process when he already received payments, his diagnosis has not changed, and he now requires a higher level of care?? I've had to fax forms repeatedly because they "lose" them. I feel that they have ripped off my parents who always paid premium on timr and I will never recommend this company."

"Very "unfriendly" company. Will challenge every claim at all costs. What a mistake I made."

"I am 72 years old and have carried life insurance for many years. I recieved mailed information from Bankers Life. I requested information and an agent called me in regards to Long Term Care. My children can not support any medical costs should I need them. I was treated very well from the Bankers agent who came to my home. Though I thought the premium was on the high side I developed trust in the agent and company. As I type this I am receiving long term care. There has been no snags in the claim process as of today. I thank Bankers Life for helping me."

"I am a former agent of Bankers Life. Some agents may be good but a majority are not. They rush their agents thru the training process. They get one week to learn and study for licensing. After that week, the new agents get only ONE WEEK of product training on half the products they offer. Then they get sent into the field with seasoned agents. They make calls from cold lists, leads generated by mailed cards, and existing or old lists. The new agents make calls and schedule appoiintments for the seasoned reps to take them on. Once the new reps have a few sales under their belt, then they get training on the other products Bankers offers. It can take an agent over 6 months just to learn about all the companies products. They do mass hiring. They hire about 15-20 people at a time and let the ones who do not want to work for comission weed themselves out. They will hire anyone and do not hire those from former insurance company backgrounds. A lot of their agents will sell products to people that are not right for the client, they sell it just to make the comission. The agents are not educated enough to handle all of their clients accounts. Bankers agents can not do financial planning and life and LTC is a part of that. Make sure you go to an insurance professional that understand how to use insurance to not onlny protect you and your family, but your assets as well."
2008-12-08 16:46:33 EST

"Lies, Lies, Lies. From the agents to the management to the home office. Never let Bankers darken your doorway. There is a special place in purgatory for this company. "
2008-11-25 16:12:34 EST

"I feel like this company misled me into losing thousands."
2008-12-08 02:39:08 EST

"They scum you, beware, never ever go to sign any paper from them"
2008-12-07 11:40:22 EST

"Bankers Life & Casualty is extremely slow in processing claims and have indicated that they are behind in processing claim overall. It's been 9 weeks since I received an acknowledgement of my claim from Bankers but no money & no help!!"
2008-12-05 15:38:26 EST

"They have not paid a claim in 4 months and I am taking them to the State Insurance Departmet. These guys are terrible."
2008-12-05 17:55:15 EST

"Rates continue to increase and I am not certain what they advocate as their reasons are trustworthy."
2008-12-16 17:49:15 EST

"Haven't seen my rep for two or three years; when I had occasion to call him, he failed to return my call."
2008-12-31 14:58:13 EST

"My 85 year old father-in-law bought a policy last year because these were his friends who have lunch with him. He bought an annuity that was an inappropriate investment for him. He had no idea of what he had gotten for 100,000 we were able to get part of the money back and had our bank do an 1035 exchange. I FEEL some of these people prey on the elderly"
2008-12-19 12:30:39 EST

"My husband and I have been paying premiums on a Bankers Casualty cancer policy for many years. However, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and had to have surgery, guess what? I couldn't get the company to send me any claim forms. I even contacted their corporate office in Chicago. Nothing. They take the info, assure me they will mail the forms, and that's where it ends. I have been trying since May 2008. "
2008-12-25 07:54:29 EST

"I like having a persaonal agent to help me"
2008-12-26 13:48:29 EST

"My mother is dying in an assisted living home and we need to release her funds to pay monthly premiums. She was sold several annuity policies with Bankers several years ago. It has been like pulling teeth to get her money (from a mature annuity) released into her account. Run-arounds, excuses, forms to fill out, no replies on e-mails and faxes, delays and more delays. Nothing is simple. I wonder what grief it will be when she dies and the beneficiaries have to collect. I think they believe it is their money first and they want to keep it by just wearing you down. My aunt was sold products from that company also and she is now keeping a watchful eye on how this all gets handled and she may just pull hers out and go elsewhere too. I will never buy a product from them for myself. Not after this."
2009-01-06 17:54:34 EST

"The company does its level best to avoid paying claims, when I contacted my agent (cell Phone) he shared his bad experience working for Bankers, and this would be added to his reasons for finding work else where. If they call you and they probibly will...Hang up!"
2009-01-09 14:42:59 EST

"I have a LTC policy with the company and unlike John Hancock & Allianz I have had premium increases in 3 of the last 4 years eventhough I have never had a claim."
2009-01-28 12:48:44 EST

"My mother died in November. Two days laters Banker's Life was contacted. A month and a half later they were still drawing drafts (a total of three) from mom's account. When contacted again they claimed thay "lost" the original notification (the date of which is documented with the funeral home that made the report). No communications. No refunds of premiums collected after date of mom's death. No payout of any kind. Have had the telephone run-around many times over the years. Company is very disappointing and would caution persons from using them."
2009-02-03 22:48:17 EST

"I am currently an agent with this company. I can only say that Bankers goes to great lengths to make sure their agents are acting in an ethical manner with integrity. In our local branch, if an agent is found to be doing anything that would breach good ethics, he or she is immediately asked to leave and their work with the company is terminated. If Bankers is indeed slow in paying claims, it hasn't happened here. While you can always find a "bad" agent and problems with pay outs in any company, I know Bankers is legitimate. I wouldn't work for them if I thought otherwise."
2009-02-03 22:54:14 EST

"Stay away"
2009-02-04 11:05:01 EST

"The very best company out there. You have a personal agent to assist you with all your questions and needs. They protect your money in an annuity so you stop loosing from the failing market. I love them and recommend them to all."
2009-02-04 23:57:51 EST

"Had a wonderful agent who really seems to care."
2009-02-13 14:42:50 EST

"This company has the most horrible ethics of any company I have ever seen. The people who have not had complaints. Have agents that go above and beyond their expectations. These agents are few. When the agent does find out what a horrible company they are working for they move on. Be careful with this company. You will be disappointed."
2009-02-07 18:11:42 EST

"Extreme caution to seniors who are looking for long term care insurance. Please do your due diligence in considering other companies in lieu of Bankers Life. The 2 agents I have dealt with are either not fully educated about or are unwilling to be honest about the claims process. "
2009-02-11 00:44:51 EST

"Recent annual rate increase in long-term care policy exceeding 20% compared to previous year. "
2009-02-23 23:48:27 EST

"I changed my address and was to receive a rebate. They claimed they sent it, but I never received it. They are hard to get in touch with and don"t seem able to keep reps or staff. I doubt their honesty."
2009-02-24 08:55:45 EST

"My mother purchased her policy on September 3, 2009 and has yet to receive her policy. They have been removing the funds for the premium from her bank account monthly. "
2009-02-19 22:10:41 EST

"good comapny and a great agent"

"crooks"
2009-02-27 19:23:37 EST

"I have had a Long Term Care policy for seven years. I just received notice that my premium will increase about 40% next month. This is after a 35% increase several years ago. Looking for another insurance company."
2009-02-26 18:21:52 EST

"Large increases in cost on long term insurance plan have made me decide to shop for another company. As you near the time you might need to use the benefits, they increase the price in an effort to get you to opt out or decrease your benefits. Pretty much a racket."
2009-03-01 19:55:57 EST

"used to be a fine company...no more, was with them for ten years, quit because they stopped paying claims the way they should...profit over integrity...what a shame"
2009-03-05 14:53:51 EST

"This company is horrible and preys off of the senior community."
2009-03-03 15:45:41 EST

"I have filed Long Term Care claims for my mother and father and never had a problem one. The paper work was easy and the claim paid in full every month. Not sure why some of these complaints are out here. We collected over $250,000 in total claims for mom and dad. I wouldn't have the farm today if they hadn't. Thanks to Bankers Life"
2009-03-09 20:33:01 EST

"Bankers Medicare Supplement Policy-Does not have a crossover with Medicare and will become quite complicated. I think that they are messing up claims in order to delay paying them. Not a consumer friendly company."
2009-03-07 14:45:39 EST

"Bankers Life & Casualty is extremely unethical and uses fraudulent practices in the sales of annuities, particularly equity indexed annuities. Their sales men pray on elderly people to earn high commissions and lock in assets at below market rates for their failing insurance business. They sold my aunt THREE equity indexed annuities, tying up all her liquid assets. They moved her assets from a reputatible firm where she had no withdrawal penalties to their annuities which had substantial penalties. The payout for my 77 year old aunt only began at age 99! So much for increasing her income. Their practices give their motto "Specaializing in Seniors" a whole new meaning. They are extremely unscruplous! "
2009-03-08 01:38:38 EST

"Don't waste your time with this company All the agents are just after your money and pass the service work that matters most to the clients off to a new agent...."
2009-03-05 15:46:39 EST

"great people"
2009-03-05 19:30:58 EST

"DO NOT buy life or indemnit insurance from Bankers Life. They will avoid your calls, emails, mailing, never respond, send you letters asking for information and then not tell you what information they want. They kept avoiding payment on my mother's life insurance policy until I contacted the MO Dept. of Insurance and the MO Attorney General. Then they denied her indemnity claim because they say she lied on her application. They claim that based on her medical records she was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure before she applied for the policy so she 'lied when she said on the application that she didn't have CHF.' I called the Dr. BL claimed diagnosed her with CHF. 'NOPE'he said, never diagnosed with it or treated for it--in fact in my my mother's records, the Dr. had explicity stated that she DID NOT have CHF. And what was BL's response to this? When they sent the letter to my mother denying the claim (she's been dead for 5 months and refuse to send her mail to me in western NY (until the past week)they said I could appeal their decison. Well, in amazing time--especially for BL, I get a refund for the premium my mother paid in only 4 days--therefore denying my right to appeal. Interestingly enough, in a letter to me, they claim that I singed the application and that I had lied on the form. Everyone who has been screwed by BL must must must contact their Dept. of Insurance and/or their Attorney General. The Dept. of Insurance in Missouri is been great! This company must be stopped!"

"THEY TAKE TOO LONG TO PAY THEIR AGENTS AND ARE VERY UNETHICAL"
2009-03-16 18:15:09 EST

"They lied on the policy, lied in their representations from their agents just to make a commission and they are a very unethical company.,"
2009-03-20 15:38:59 EST

"They DO NOT pay their agents the commissions that they have earned. Therefore, I do not trust them to pay any claims. I will be cancelling my policy this week. "
2009-03-25 10:03:02 EST

"Don't waste your time or money with this company. My aunt has a home health care policy with this company. We have had nothing but problems with claims, and the people at the 800 number have been very rude. The policy my aunt has is not what she thought it was--the agent misrepresented, told her the company would handle all the details, find people to come to the house, that EVERYTHING would be covered. In reality, the policy pays only $700 per month towards home care, and the person has to be completely incapacited, and need 24/7 care. She now lives with us, and we can file claims for the help we have in for her when we are at work. But it takes MONTHS for the reimbursement, and it's always an arguement and a hassle. STAY AWAY!"
2009-03-27 13:13:30 EST

"Personal Service is fantastic compared to 1-800 numbers & talking to someone in India!"
2009-03-27 14:24:47 EST

"Dont buy from them."
2009-04-08 00:25:43 EST

"My mother is in a personel care home and was in a nursing home-Basically the company is always 3-4 months behind in payments. They always say they are reveiwing the claims. It Seems they want to hold on to the money as long as they can.It has taken much of my money and my sisters money to keep her in the personel care home.We have hired a lawyer, but still no money.Very dissappointed, broke and mad.---Do not use this company.Your agent may be nice, but when it comes time to use the company-Your out of luck. 2009-05-18 11:00:28 EST

"I love the service. I always have an agent to turn to for anything. "
2009-05-20 01:22:57 EST

"Working with the Bankers people has been excellent. They are caring and have provided myself and my family service well beyond our expectations."
2009-07-07 15:56:40 EST

"They made and continue to make every excuse in the world not to give you your money. Beware of this company. They are crooks!"
2009-07-12 20:15:50 EST

"They drag their tails to send you your money. They do not know what is going on. You wait for ever to get customer service and when you do they ask you the same security questions that they ask you when you first call. I like security but it is a little rediculious. They lie about when money has been sent out, it does not take 4 days for mail to be sent from Indiana to Kentucky. They are either plain stupid or just lie like a dog."
2009-07-13 00:01:13 EST

"PREMIUMS TWICE HAVE GONE UP 35%!!"
2009-07-15 11:37:24 EST

"Administrative nightmare. My experience as an agent and owner of a policy have been horrendous. The company bungled three of my deals because of their sluggish processing and the lies abound. I am now an independent agent and very successfull. I abhor this company and any overpriced product they panhandle through their captive agents."
2009-08-01 00:01:15 EST

"all you ever get is the runaround wrong claim form evenlow its the one they send you Have been with them about 20 years all my claim would of been was about 3 weeks and couldnt get that. This company is a joke."

"This company has paid me thousands towards my healthcare costs. I would be broke without it. The staff at my doctors office says that they love dealing with Bankers Life."
2009-08-17 13:27:09 EST

"Our agent was very informative."
2009-11-10 10:29:08 EST

"Does not seem to respond to clients communications in a reasonable time nor meaningful manner. It takes persistence, perseverance, and downright nastiness to get results. they need to improve their operations. It may very well be incompetence or laziness on the part of the employees. Its hard to tell from out side as a client "
