"The claims reps are both stupid and unfair. I think Cigna makes their money by cheating a claimant and expecting that person not to fight back. I used to help employees with claims and found this all the time. Further, my own claims are only paid after battles. I'm so tired of dealing with them. It shouldn't have to be this way. "

"Once they admit the charges are covered, they pay (though slowly. Hospital just got insurance payment 6+mo after they billed Cigna! so slow that some of our providers are threatening us to send to collection, even if it's Cigna's fault). But they frequently make coverage errors (in-network/out-of-network, copay % listed in our enrollment document not honored, etc) in their favor that cost much time and effort to correct, usually takes 2-3 calls to fix their mistake (and sometimes a threat from our employer to fix it, as it is a group insurance through our employer). Service representative quality vary greatly depending on who you end up talking to. Some are mindless robots who can't read beyond the scripts they are given to respond, while some actually do have a capacity to dig deeper and have things corrected. Either way, the number of mistakes they have made is unforgivable, for a company that has been in the business this long! (mistakes they make are worse than you would expect in a first-year startup insurance company with a buggy software!). unless you have 0% copay on all services, you must track their payment and coverage like a hawk, since so far, they have made more errors than processing claims correctly."

"They refused to pay for my son's asthma medication that was prescribed by the doctor. Made some lame excuse at first about it being no longer effective. This was albuterol, the most commonly prescribed asthma medication that I know!"

"They are terrible. I wouldn't recommend a mangy dog to this company from how angry I am about this. First off I got rushed to ER TWICE from work (where I got my medical from haha) due to asthma related issues. I payed the co pay and later got a letter asking me what was prescribed to me. Call me silly but I thought that's something the doctors put in with the claim. I sent it back with the information and they still couldn't figure it out and continued to send me letters requesting information on what I was prescribed. FINALLY they sent me a letter telling me I wasn't covered because it was a pre-existing condition. I have never had to go to ER because of this, before or after I quit working at the job. Second, their customer reps are terrible, They are rude and don't know what they are talking about. You get set on hold forever and they still have no clue what's going on when they pick back up. Thirdly, the have an insanely high deduct. For me, one person, the deduct was 500 dollars a year. All in all, I couldn't be more dissatisfied if they had flat out held me up at gun point and robbed me. Atleast that way I wouldn't get a run around."

"CIGNA handles routine approved claims fairly well. But when even the smallest thing is different or non-standard they drift into DUMMY mode and never recover. They say one thing today, another tomorrow. It's a game of wild goose chase that never ends until you finally get tired and give up. They are horrible at handling anything but routine! Information sent to them is ALLWAYS lost. I would never recommend to my least friends. I've been fighting a +$500 claim for months now. Every time I call they want me to do something else before deciding if they'll pay the claim."
2007-10-03 08:23:34 EST

"all of our prescriptions to date have been free! unheard of."

"CIGNA does not want to pay on their Disability claims. I have had several occasions when I had to go on disability from my job. They paid me for only a few days of disability then claimed I no longer had reason to collect benefits. This in spite of the fact that several doctors have written the company and provided test results and office notes stating clearly that I have not been able to perform my job duties. I paid my premiums and expected to collect when I am unable to work. But CIGNA personnel make medical decisions from a thousand miles away without any consideration given to medical decisions made by physicians that I see on a regular basis. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy."

"I have no choice - this is a company polany plan"

"They are terrible about getting correct information. I have had the worst nightmare dealing with them to get my daughters wheelchair covered. I have been getting the complete runaround from them. I think I spoke with almost every department they have and I still get no straight answers. I was denied a claim for a manual wheelchair for my daughter (who drives an electric one now, when she is unable to push a manual one due to her constantly changing physical condition but she suffers muscle loss, lung compromise, additional pain and more contractures and additional scoliosis when she only uses the electric chair) But what really floored me is that a Cigna employee said that having an additional chair was considered a "convenience"! I wonder how convenient it is for them to just blanket deny claims, misinform their insured and make patients and their families jump through hoops just to get the coverage they pay for, and is desperately needed denied. "

"All services I've recieved have been payed with out issue. "

"Long term disability claim. Helt up over several months. Claim based on auto accident insurance company had to determined it was not a preexisting illness!!!! Case worker never in office...rarely available for questions . Never a direct answer. Tremely bad experience all around"
2007-11-28 07:49:11 EST

"Read the long term coverage details."
2007-12-13 14:15:46 EST

"Customer service is HORRIBLE! They do not update files correctly and give you a run around. It's the worst experience I have ever had with ANY insurance company. "

"*admin's website always down. * employees claims are only paid when employees fight for money."

"DO NOT PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS Basically, they do not cover lung cancer - even one lymph node involved, and despite the fact that both it and the tumour can be cut out with excellent total cure almost certain, their policy does not cover any 'metastasis' - in TNM terms for non small cell lung cancer (the most common type), this means that they only actually cover a T1N0MO status - which is less than 13% of patients with this disease - utterly utterly disgusting product, misleading policy and staff DO NOT PURCHASE EVER"
2007-12-18 16:10:10 EST

"I'm a previous employee for Cigna Health Care and I want everyone to know what actually goes on there. People are paid terribly low salaries, are treated poorly by management and forced to work horrendous hours! Those who are our customer services representatives (people who take your phone calls) are only trained for one week, you heard right, one week!!! They do not know your answers, when you call and get so frustrated its because they don't know what you're talking about. When you have a question, and they say I will get an answer and call you back, they never will. We are forced to answer calls as quickly as possible and say whatever we have to to get you on the phone and take the next call. All they care about are numbers and how quickly we respond to calls waiting in our queue. There is never ANY time given to work on all the issues that we come across that day. If people don't feel like entering and application they shred it. Nothing is done properly and most employees will look for any excuse they can find to not work."

"JERKS !"
2007-12-22 19:37:38 EST

"All they no is deny deny deny. If your physician writes you a script good luck getting it filled. They want you to take additional test all with deductibles. And still want to deny your meds."
2007-12-22 20:19:27 EST

"Be aware of the rules and guide lines for the plan you choose."

"I can not say that I have had any problems with Cigna yet. I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop, since I do not trust insurance companies. "
2008-02-29 03:16:25 EST

"Mu Dr. sent me for an MRI due to my bad back got worse, after the MRI was done Cigna refuses to pay for it saying they do not feel it was medically necessary??WHAT?? I filed both appeals and they still wont pay the bill, Why would the Dr. send me for it if it was not necessary? I never knew they could do this intil after the MRI was a;ready done, I cant take it back or return it!! the stress is killing me over this, its not fair!!"

"After about 12 months of decent service for a 90%/10 plan they just stopped paying my medical bills without warning. Cigna claimed that it was because my husband added a supplemental umbrella policy .. Cigna said to submit his bills to the unbrella company and upon denial they would consider . . Umbrella policies do not work that way . . they do not review primary medical billing . . the policy only covers charges not covered my primary insurance . . They know this and thats why they gave this response .. . The company I work for represents a $20 million dollar plus annual contract . . we have taken action with the account rep . . No solutions have resulted . . Very very frustrated"

"We have been denied card by three different dentists over the last eighteen months (dentists we were previously patients of). We were told Cigna doesn't pay their providers and are no longer taking Cigna patients."
2008-07-08 15:39:38 EST

"They eventually paid on claims, but it was like pulling teeth. They always had some excuse, or kept sending out the same forms, even after we had filled them out already. Be patient. Keep a folder of ALL bills and records relating to a claim, so you know where they are and can tell the person on the phone what was sent when."
2008-04-01 14:47:21 EST

"Covers diddly squat for senior dental care. We had to go out of state to see a peridontist that would honor Cigna. Very few in dental health will accept senior patients. My long time dentist would not long honor Cigna insurance and it has been a nightmare finding dental care."

"Cigna disability is an outrite cash cow for Cigna and it's shareholders. I've been subjected to the worst possible service I could have ever had a nightmare about. They are constantly making me undergo needless tests, and redundant paperwork. I have 2 (two) degenerative dieseases, meaning they will never get better. As a condition of employment 20 years ago ,I had to take out a disability policy with my employer. I paid the premiums through payroll deduction, hoping never to have to use it. Well unfortunte to me I got sick. Cigna has been nothing but a pain in the you know what. They were perfectly content while I paid my premiums, but when it came time for them to help me, forget it ! All over the internet you can read of more horror stories about Cigna. I can tell you they have been absolutely my worst nightmare come true. They are constantly re-evaluating my claim, making jump through hoops, and raising the bar after every re-eval. It's terrible when you have several Drs. attesting to the fact that your disabled, only to have some desk jocky thousands of miles away rebuking what your Drs. say. These desk jocky's with minimal medical education, other than terminology, actually have the right to deterimine what a well educated and highly trained and medical pro. has? Hog wash, my Dr. is actually thinking of bringing suit against them for defamation. How can these 90 day wonders possibly have the credentials or knowledge of a Dr. with 12 years formal medical education and twenty years practice under his/her belts ? Makes me sick to even have to comment, Cigna just wants me to forget dotting an i or better yet just die. I blame our government for letting this type of thing to go on. Never and I mean NEVER trust Cigna !!!!"

"GIGNA THIS SHOULD BE A CRIME Criminal prosecution is necessary for these kind of actions: Twelve years ago I fought for my life with this same Glendale Cigna. Back in those days they owned and operated 29 wholly owned health Clinics where they employed the doctors. I did not stop fighting until these Clinics were quietly closed down. I had Lung Cancer, they documented in my file, I was neither a candidate for Surgery, nor was I a candidate for follow up. In other words they put me on Disability and sent me home to die. They made me suffer for two years, lying to me I was well, when all the time they knew I had Lung Cancer. I fought, went to Doctors outside their system, and all these Doctors recommended immediate Surgery. I had the surgery, and I survived. All this just to save a BUCK. When I was leaving the hospital the Surgeon told us, the cancer was very rare only in 1 percent of all cases would it originate in the Lung. He advised my family Cigna was not going to want to pay for the treatment needed. So he said he was going to document in my Hospital file all the things I would need so I could fight to get it. The Cigna Medical Director, documented in my file theTumor was removed it was benign, and all I would need would be a follow up xray. I stood outside this same Glendale based Cigna in a Hospital Gown fighting to live, as they would not return my calls. Instead of letting me get treatment they met me with their Lawyers, and their Risk manager. My father was with me,and so was my husband, my Father I will never forget told their Risk Manager, if they do not let me get the necessary treatment, he would take him and throw him from the fifth floor Window out on to the street. The Newspapers came to my aid, and after my story was published CIGNA only then agreed to pay for the treatment needed. Please believe me, when I say these people are CRIMINALS, and I have the evidence to prove it. Cigna, must be held accountible for its CRIMES against humanity. Pretty damed sad this is happening in AMERICA, and nothing is being done about it."

"Cigna is dragging it's feet on approving my life insurance claim. It is legit yet they are trying everything they can to deny the claim, and when I call they give me the same bull "It's not that were going to deny it" "We just need more information". If that is the case, approve it and go on to the next claim!!!"
2008-05-14 10:02:57 EST

"They never want to pay for anything. They always say that it is not an allowable charge. I pay for 80 to 90 percent of everything. my agent is AWOL "
2008-05-28 22:19:06 EST

"My Company supplies the insurance - try to get by as cheap as they can - you get what you pay for"
2008-06-07 00:41:48 EST

"I'm amazed that Cigna is still in business. I've had a roller-coaster of bad experiences with them. First, I was told that they would cover my acupucture treatments, and then they didn't. I have spent countless hours on the phone with them to try to get a straight answer. And I get a different answer every time I call. I just keep calling until I get the answer I'm satisfied with. Their customer service reps don't get much training, and you can tell when you call. Someone once hung up on me after I explained my complicated issue to her. I can only assume she didn't know how to respond to me. My BP goes up and I get stressed out now whenever I deal with them. I've had enough that I'm dropping them as soon as I can. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Cigna if you can help it."
2008-07-15 23:29:44 EST

"I've submitted multiple dental and medical claims over the past years, and they have all been processed relatively quickly and fairly. I'm probably jinxing myself by saying this, of course. "
2008-08-29 06:54:04 EST

"My wife had Hodgkin's lymphoma. Cigna assigned an account rep to help us track all the paperwork and make sure that all claims were covered. They provided a $10,000.00 travel and lodging expense which was extremely helpful. Overall, they were very helpful through this difficult time. "
2008-09-09 15:20:09 EST

"I have never had any problems with CIGNA and would stay with them except they are dropping their HMO plans in NY. Otherwise they are great. "
2008-09-10 17:07:24 EST

"This is the worst company I've ever been insured by. They try to get out of paying almost every claim and their customer service is atrocious!"
2008-10-01 14:13:45 EST

"Have had Cigna for three plus years but company getting ready to change to another. We have been very satisfied with Cigna. My wife had open heart surgery two years ago and everything was covered with no questions asked. If you follow the rules, they provide excellent coverage."
2008-09-26 19:09:32 EST

"Cigna insurance sucks! one Cigna person gave me the info that a procedure was covered. After the procedure,I got a bill for 700$.when I called back, all that they did was apologise!now I am stuck with a huge bill to pay!"
