"Denied almost all claims after requesting so many paper work and making many phone calls. The strategy I think is to get customers sick and tired of the cumbersome process that they will pay from pocket. That is what we did - pay from our pocket than go thru all the frustrating hassle. Good work CIGNA. "

"Shame on Cigna and other health insurers. Because of Obamacare they are moving the start date of 2014 polices back one day to 12/31/2013 so they can increase premiums before the new law takes affect on 1/1/2014 which may have lowered them for some folks."

"Their directory of doctors is outdated. I made two calls and none of the doctors listed work in those offices. Glad it is not an urgency but how can they NOT update their doctor's network?? After reading other comments here it might be better to just go to a doctor and pay it all out of my pocket just to save me the hassle and stress of dealing with them. "

"I've been reading the complaints about Cigna which I too share. They know exactly what they are doing when it comes to denial of service. some people think it's a game it's not...it's math. They have formulas they use. What they want of course is people who are paying in and drawing nothing out. They are currently denying an MRI my Dr.ordered for my back. This isn't the first time. I was temporarily notified they were not going to pay another MRI bill a couple of years ago for a knee situation. They sent out a ridiculous set of instructions that one should use to determine if an MRI was needed. Of course the joke was that my Dr. is also a teaching professor at the top Medical school for hundreds of miles. What they would like you to do is get mad and cancel. I refuse to do so...My family is just costing them too much money...I don't care. I'll make them pay until I eventually die."

"My husband gets his medical coverage through his employer the USPS so thankfully knowing what we do now about how terrible his choice of Cigna was we will be changing at the end of this year.In December my husband developed heart failure and he ended up in the hospital three times and to begin with Cigna seemed to be okay with paying the 80% of his medical bills until his cardiologist who is an in network provider said that he needed to have an internal defibrillator implanted to save him in case of sudden cardiac arrest.Apparently due to too much Medicare fraud concerning the implantation of these devices the government a few years back started requiring that a doctor have a 90 day waiting period before they implant the device to see if medication would be enough to help the functioning of his heart and his cardiologist said that he recommended that for that 90 days he use an external defibrillator just to make sure he was safe. There is only ONE company that makes these devices and basically rents them to the patient for that 90 day period and his doctor said not to worry because it was fully covered by his insurance which as we found out from Zoll themselves is USUALLY true.My husband reached the cap on his out of pocket expenses for IN NETWORK coverage meaning that Cigna should have had to fully cover anything else he had done for the rest of the year and lo and behold we received a letter from Zoll NOT Cigna alerting us that Cigna took it upon themselves to decide that this device again the ONLY one made in America was considered an OUT of network claim and basically what Zoll told us is this is unheard of as they have never seen another insurance company do this so Zoll themselves is filing an appeal on this decision for us. When my husband actually called Zoll and asked them if this was standard the Zoll Rep.said and I quote " they are a bunch of SOB's at Cigna".I have nothing but glowing reviews for Zoll as they are doing everything to represent us and let us know what is going on while Cigna never cared to even notify us of their decision. My belief is that since my husband reached his out of pocket cap for the year on his IN network coverage this scam of an insurance company just decided to say that this was an out of network claim.Would someone tell me HOW this life saving device which his IN network cardiologist said he had to use for that 90 waiting period and is ONLY made by Zoll specifically for the purpose of keeping patients like my husband alive during that 90 day government MANDATED waiting period could be considered out of network? To me what they are telling my husband is that they have the right to decide that even though there was NO choice as to any other device manufacturer in the entire country he can either suck up the costs or he could have chosen to die. Stay as far away from this fraud of an insurance company if you can and if this is the only choice for insurance through your employer get a bunch of fellow employees together to form a complaint with your company to get your health insurance company changed. They refuse tests needed at the risk of patients health they refuse to approve procedures. your out of picket will be expensive. Rude on the phone. "Customer Service reps seem to only be trained to transfer you to a different department who then tells you it's not their department or disconnect you. THis will go on for hours and days. After notifying them of change of address they insist on mailing checks to an address I had 2 years ago and they insist this is their policy yet their bills have the ability to be sent to the correct address. I frequently get calls for another cigna subscriber Ernest M... and they refuse to acknowledge they are calling the wrong number for the past 2 years. The most incompetent rude company I have ever dealt with. I cannot understand why they still have the ability to conduct business. To think a company with their conduct has the ability to manage one's health care is a travesty. A very sad day in America."

"This company should be out of business. They don't train their reps who are rude and clueless they refuse claims routinely they reimbursed me 132.50 on a 660 claim for mental health benefits stating that "another insurer" had already paid a complete fabrication they are just hopeless. I told them if they don't get their act together they'll have to pay to institutionalize me -- that I need mental health treatment and meds as much as I'd need insulin if I were diabetic. I hope they understood the word "institutionalize" -- I don't know where they find these people who answer phones but no questions."

My doctor ordered a MRI that they said wasn't medically necessary. They think they know more than the docors. They are making it impossible for doctors to do their jobs. People are going to die because they aren't going to get the care that they need because this company won't pay for your care. RUN"

"Our company Cigna for health insurance two years ago. FSA accounts They provide a charge card for FSA expenses. Do not be fooled. This is a joke Not only do you have to submit a paper claim anyway they cut off your FSA account if they cannot keep them straight. It is sad that Cigna is so disorganized and confused that many of my coworkers who qualify for an FSA have given it up since they took over. I will be next. They cannot handle more than one FSA expense at a time even if only for 5.00. Even the most clearly validated expense must be submitted individually or they cannot figure it out. They inundate you with reams of useless mail their website is chaotic and confusing and their customer service is appalling. If I ask three Cigna agents the same question about coverage I get three different and conflicting answers As for medical expenses One week they cover an expense. The next week they do not cover the same expense. You never know what is covered. If you ask them they tell you to go ahead and get the treatment and then they will give you an answer One young teen who lost her leg was told her prosthetic would be covered. After she was fitted and wearing it for a month they denied coverage retroactively. Cigna is the worst mess I have ever had the extreme displeasure to deal with. "

They pay such a low rate to doctors many do not take it now. They will do everything in their power to avoid or delay paying claims - including deception and I believe unlawful practices. Hate them. They should be ashamed of theirselves for such crappy insurance and service and this is for a 1400 a month policy. CRAP is what you get when dealing with this company. I would highly recommend not getting this. We can hardly afford our bills as it is and now we have to pay for drs bills too. A piss poor company is what it is. "My doctor required a test to be done in order to better diagnose my problem since this was second doctor i visited after the first diagnosis wasnt correct I wanted to do the MRI he recommended Cigna had outsourced the decision to approve pre-approve the MRI to a company called Med Solutions. Med solution rejected to approve my testing and asked for more information from my doctor. He sent it and I had to wait 48 hours for the decision. The y rejected again with no explanation to me of what so ever . now I am stuck with my condition and doctors cant diagnose. Cigna outsourced the preapproval of imaging to this company so they can reject these requests and probably are paid by how many they reject I dont know what to do now Because Cigna doesnt give me any solution This is the worst service ever. "My husband and I have health insurance with Cigna through our employer so weI have no choice. The quotation marks indicate a laugh-line. Cigna pays little and sometimes nothing for claims keeps doctors and facilities waiting for as long as it likes and has a ridicuously inefficient and unresponsive prescriptions-by-mail program. Customer Service CS is non-existent. We endure lengthy descriptions of what CS cannot do. You will be bombarded with comments like Why are you angry with me and Its not my fault. But best of all you are likely to be promised by a Suupervisor that everything will be taken care of immediately. I should insert another laugh-line here. Its been difficult dealing with Cigna and I do not look forward to the continued realtionship. I wish my firm would choose another provider."

"Unfortunately I work for Cigna and my benefits are the WORST Ive ever had. Even my claims are routinely denied for no reason but when I call to follow-up they are suddenly approved. Not just once this year but FIVE times. Our shareholders are the most important person here not our members. We are NOT in the Healthcare business we are an insurance company and dont want to pay money...even though we are making Billions of dollars each financial quarter. It makes me sick to work here. We spent FIFTY MILLION dollars to rebrand ourselves with a new logo and ads on TV and in magazines so you will think we are trendy. GO YOU is our new catch phrase...and you should GO somewhere else to get your insurance."

"First of all they dont consider a dermatologist appointment for a preventive check up on moles etc PREVENTIVE. Supposedly since it is a specialist. I have to pay for it (since the deductible is so high I never reach it anyways till the year is almost over-smart move from their side not having to pay for too much grrr) Also you have to get a procedure approved and then when cigna sends a letter it is approved and will be covered-they dont mean covered as paid for-no I still have to pay for all that is left after their negotiated discount (since it is in network) since I did not reach my deductible yet. I would have never made an appointment for this if I would have known covered does not really mean covered!!! I had enough of it seriously... I am so fed up with all that!"

"DO NOT TRUST CIGNA! After having 3 strokes and a heart attack I went through extensive rehab (not through CIGNA). I attempted to go back to work on a trial basis and realized that I could not perform my duties. The rehab doctors and therapists confirmed that I was disabled. I applied for Social Security disability and for CIGNA short term disability from my employer prior to applying for long term disability status. Social Security approved my claim without any need for appeals or lawyers. CIGNA and Social Security were both provided the same documentation. CIGNA has done nothing but string me along. CIIGNA: We didn’t receive the information, the information we received was insufficient, your claim has taken too long and is being closed, we need additional medical information, we need 30 days to review the medical information, we need an additional 30 days to review your information, etc. I have been disabled since November of 2010. It is now March of 2011. I will not receive Social security income until May. My family and I are in extreme hardship because CIGNA will not honor its commitment to provide disability benefits. THIS COMPANY IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED! "

Faxes aren’t received even though we have a fax confirmation. Magically in the denial both faxes have been processed. When on occasion there is an error on your form and you try to find out how to correct it, you are given the wrong directive to fix it. If you have a HSA and/or FSA, just get ready to resubmit and make three to four calls to finally retrieve your money."

"Seriously considered not signing up for fsa next year because they are so unorganized and paperwork heavy. They require an EOB for every receipt and routinely deny perfectly eligible expenses. When you have $2,000 to $2,500 each year in small claimed increments ($20 or so) you need to submit reams of paperwork. For fifteen years we had 4 or 5 different companies and all they required was receipt and claims form. Needing to log onto blue cross to get an EOB for each receipt and waste a full sheet of paper for each $20 copay is totally inefficient and wasteful. Decided to try the FSA card they sent us, but it has been a nightmare. Some weeks we get 3 or 4 letters from cigna telling us that a claim has been denied. Then I need to call them so that they will actually look at the paperwork I sent (and in some cases faxed up to 3 times) before they accept it. Fortunately the company I work for got us ADP. It cannot help but be better!"

The other was a insurance company that was canceled 2 years ago when I changed jobs . I just want them to pay my bills and not try to pass it on to someone else .I pay them and they should pay . Where I work we have Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna . They just lost 1,000 customers when we decided to make Blue Cross Blue Shield our only provider . During our employee meeting this news got a standing ovation with continuing applause .It has been 4 months and my chiropractors office will bring them before an insurance fraud board . I have had to go between all this and have had much grief . I do not need this I have enough things to worry about . "

"When my PCP tried to call this company and explain why I needed certain tests that he prescribed, he was ignored by their services group and the group called Med Solutions that does the medical review for approval. What a shame that a company has an operating policy to delay care that is needed. I will definitly recommend my corporation to drop this insurance company as a provider."

"The worst insurance company EVER. I dont understand how every claim that they have gotten for myself and family can be considered pre existing?? I was in the hospital for several days with a viral invection almost 6 months ago and they have denied the claims for pre existing. Better yet my GF who is covered on the policy is now pregnaunt. suppose to be a very exciting time in our lives but CIGNA is making it a nightmare. i had the insurance longer than 6 months befor the pregnauncy and they are dening claims for a new prgnaunce for pre existing. HOW THE HELL IS THAT PRE EXISTING?? I hate CIGNA and the retards they have working at that place they are all crooks and liers!! DONT EVER GET CIGNA if you have the choice.... "

It sucks!! and I can not change it until the next enrollment period. I feel like Cigna is doing whatever they can to get from their clients whatever they have!"

When she was finally able to determine the claims had gone upaid because they went to the wrong address, we learned that my copay was equal to the amount they had contracted with my provider. Thus, they were controlling my care, without actually paying anything for the service."

My fear is this can't last, the state will figure this out and get us some cut rate insurance. Excellent insurance. You need to go to a qualified provider BUT, the providers are the best anyone could want to go. Thank Cigna, you gave me one less worry in a very stressful period of my life... I can't say enough about how pleased I am with Cigna POS insurance. "

"I'm amazed that Cigna is still in business. I've had a roller-coaster of bad experiences with them. First, I was told that they would cover my acupucture treatments, and then they didn't. I have spent countless hours on the phone with them to try to get a straight answer. And I get a different answer every time I call. I just keep calling until I get the answer I'm satisfied with. Their customer service reps don't get much training, and you can tell when you call. Someone once hung up on me after I explained my complicated issue to her. I can only assume she didn't know how to respond to me. My BP goes up and I get stressed out now whenever I deal with them. I've had enough that I'm dropping them as soon as I can. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Cigna if you can help it."

"GIGNA THIS SHOULD BE A CRIME Criminal prosecution is necessary for these kind of actions: Twelve years ago I fought for my life with this same Glendale Cigna. Back in those days they owned and operated 29 wholly owned health Clinics where they employed the doctors. I did not stop fighting until these Clinics were quietly closed down. I had Lung Cancer, they documented in my file, I was neither a candidate for Surgery, nor was I a candidate for follow up. In other words they put me on Disability and sent me home to die. They made me suffer for two years, lying to me I was well, when all the time they knew I had Lung Cancer. I fought, went to Doctors outside their system, and all these Doctors recommended immediate Surgery. I had the surgery, and I survived. All this just to save a BUCK. When I was leaving the hospital the Surgeon told us, the cancer was very rare only in 1 percent of all cases would it originate in the Lung. He advised my family Cigna was not going to want to pay for the treatment needed. So he said he was going to document in my Hospital file all the things I would need so I could fight to get it. The Cigna Medical Director, documented in my file theTumor was removed it was benign, and all I would need would be a follow up xray. I stood outside this same Glendale based Cigna in a Hospital Gown fighting to live, as they would not return my calls. Instead of letting me get treatment they met me with their Lawyers, and their Risk manager. My father was with me,and so was my husband, my Father I will never forget told their Risk Manager, if they do not let me get the necessary treatment, he would take him and throw him from the fifth floor Window out on to the street. The Newspapers came to my aid, and after my story was published CIGNA only then agreed to pay for the treatment needed. Please believe me, when I say these people are CRIMINALS, and I have the evidence to prove it. Cigna, must be held accountible for its CRIMES against humanity. Pretty damed sad this is happening in AMERICA, and nothing is being done about it."

"Cigna disability is an outrite cash cow for Cigna and it's shareholders. I've been subjected to the worst possible service I could have ever had a nightmare about. They are constantly making me undergo needless tests, and redundant paperwork. I have 2 (two) degenerative dieseases, meaning they will never get better. As a condition of employment 20 years ago ,I had to take out a disability policy with my employer. I paid the premiums through payroll deduction, hoping never to have to use it. Well unfortunte to me I got sick. Cigna has been nothing but a pain in the you know what. They were perfectly content while I paid my premiums, but when it came time for them to help me, forget it ! All over the internet you can read of more horror stories about Cigna. I can tell you they have been absolutely my worst nightmare come true. They are constantly re-evaluating my claim, making jump through hoops, and raising the bar after every re-eval. It's terrible when you have several Drs. attesting to the fact that your disabled, only to have some desk jocky thousands of miles away rebuking what your Drs. say. These desk jocky's with minimal medical education, other than terminology, actually have the right to deterimine what a well educated and highly trained and medical pro. has? Hog wash, my Dr. is actually thinking of bringing suit against them for defamation. How can these 90 day wonders possibly have the credentials or knowledge of a Dr. with 12 years formal medical education and twenty years practice under his/her belts ? Makes me sick to even have to comment, Cigna just wants me to forget dotting an i or better yet just die. I blame our government for letting this type of thing to go on. Never and I mean NEVER trust Cigna !!!!"

Keep a folder of ALL bills and records relating to a claim, so you know where they are and can tell the person on the phone what was sent when."

Cigna claimed that it was because my husband added a supplemental umbrella policy .. Cigna said to submit his bills to the unbrella company and upon denial they would consider . . Umbrella policies do not work that way . . they do not review primary medical billing . . the policy only covers charges not covered my primary insurance . . They know this and thats why they gave this response .. . The company I work for represents a $20 million dollar plus annual contract . . we have taken action with the account rep . . No solutions have resulted . . Very very frustrated"

"I'm a previous employee for Cigna Health Care and I want everyone to know what actually goes on there. People are paid terribly low salaries, are treated poorly by management and forced to work horrendous hours! Those who are our customer services representatives (people who take your phone calls) are only trained for one week, you heard right, one week!!! They do not know your answers, when you call and get so frustrated its because they don't know what you're talking about. When you have a question, and they say I will get an answer and call you back, they never will. We are forced to answer calls as quickly as possible and say whatever we have to to get you on the phone and take the next call. All they care about are numbers and how quickly we respond to calls waiting in our queue. There is never ANY time given to work on all the issues that we come across that day. If people don't feel like entering and application they shred it. Nothing is done properly and most employees will look for any excuse they can find to not work."

"DO NOT PURCHASE THESE PRODUCTS Basically, they do not cover lung cancer - even one lymph node involved, and despite the fact that both it and the tumour can be cut out with excellent total cure almost certain, their policy does not cover any 'metastasis' - in TNM terms for non small cell lung cancer (the most common type), this means that they only actually cover a T1N0MO status - which is less than 13% of patients with this disease - utterly utterly disgusting product, misleading policy and staff DO NOT PURCHASE EVER"

I think I spoke with almost every department they have and I still get no straight answers. I was denied a claim for a manual wheelchair for my daughter (who drives an electric one now, when she is unable to push a manual one due to her constantly changing physical condition but she suffers muscle loss, lung compromise, additional pain and more contractures and additional scoliosis when she only uses the electric chair) But what really floored me is that a Cigna employee said that having an additional chair was considered a "convenience"! I wonder how convenient it is for them to just blanket deny claims, misinform their insured and make patients and their families jump through hoops just to get the coverage they pay for, and is desperately needed denied. "CIGNA does not want to pay on their Disability claims. I have had several occasions when I had to go on disability from my job. They paid me for only a few days of disability then claimed I no longer had reason to collect benefits. This in spite of the fact that several doctors have written the company and provided test results and office notes stating clearly that I have not been able to perform my job duties. I paid my premiums and expected to collect when I am unable to work. But CIGNA personnel make medical decisions from a thousand miles away without any consideration given to medical decisions made by physicians that I see on a regular basis. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy."

They say one thing today, another tomorrow. It's a game of wild goose chase that never ends until you finally get tired and give up. They are horrible at handling anything but routine! Information sent to them is ALLWAYS lost. I would never recommend to my least friends. I've been fighting a +$500 claim for months now. Every time I call they want me to do something else before deciding if they'll pay the claim."

"They are terrible. I wouldn't recommend a mangy dog to this company from how angry I am about this. First off I got rushed to ER TWICE from work (where I got my medical from haha) due to asthma related issues. I payed the co pay and later got a letter asking me what was prescribed to me. Call me silly but I thought that's something the doctors put in with the claim. I sent it back with the information and they still couldn't figure it out and continued to send me letters requesting information on what I was prescribed. FINALLY they sent me a letter telling me I wasn't covered because it was a pre-existing condition. I have never had to go to ER because of this, before or after I quit working at the job. Second, their customer reps are terrible, They are rude and don't know what they are talking about. You get set on hold forever and they still have no clue what's going on when they pick back up. Thirdly, the have an insanely high deduct. For me, one person, the deduct was 500 dollars a year. All in all, I couldn't be more dissatisfied if they had flat out held me up at gun point and robbed me. Atleast that way I wouldn't get a run around."

"The claims reps are both stupid and unfair. I think Cigna makes their money by cheating a claimant and expecting that person not to fight back. I used to help employees with claims and found this all the time. Further, my own claims are only paid after battles. I'm so tired of dealing with them. It shouldn't have to be this way. "
