"The few times I've required services from State Farm, they have been friendly, helpful and prompt."
2007-01-24 08:16:44 EST

"I have been using this insurance since I started driving. Since I got my new car things were crazy.... my coverage discounts will randomly be taken off and almost once every other month I have to call and find out about why and what has changed. Its irritating, but atleast I am still covered."

"Having dealt with "other" insurance companies State Farm has always surprised me with any claims I have filed. Having had two teenager drivers in the family, we have had some dealings with claims. Quick and more than fair settlements at a reasonable preium price. "
2007-02-11 19:31:33 EST

"Wonder if I'll need a lawyer if I have ever a claim. Not happy iwth how they have not settled Katrina claims."
2007-02-15 19:23:07 EST

"would not settle claim on car accident. we were not cited for accident but state farm adjuster was rude, harrassing and flat out refused to pay claim. told us 'don't bother suing cause you won't win.' will definitely cancel policies. in over 20 years with state farm, only had one claim"

"Sustained a small undetecable leak in a second story bath. Noticed the leak by a small (nickle size) wet spot on the kitchen ceiling. Had a plumber in, he stated the toilet was incorrectly installed and the leak had probably been on / off for five years. (When the toilet was installed). The leak had caused a small amount of mold, and the sub floor and floor had to be taken out. Totat cost was $4,200. State Farm denied the entire claim stating slow leaks over time are not covered. (Page 9 of their book). This was not caused by any maintainance failure on our part. I've had State Farm for almost 40yrs. and this was only the second claim. I m looking for a new carrier!"

"After 37 years of paying State Farm for homeowners insurance I filed a small claim ($6500) from a leaky pipe and they refused to pay anything. Why should I be loyal to them with that kind of service?"

"I wouldn't do business again with this company. They are overpriced and push all kinds of other products they want you to buy from them. Their monthly payment plan is a nightmare... I suggest you closely watch your bill if you are paying monthly. They can never explain the inconsistencies from month to month variations. Also, be ware that your premium will go up if you file a claim. They did not pay many of the Katrina claims, however, the CEO of the company got an incredible 82% pay raise in 2006. Here is a quote about the news: "Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ed Rust Jr. got a $5.26 million raise. He earned $11.66 million in 2006 with a base salary of $1.77 million and results-based bonus of $9.89 million, the statement said. Rust made $6.4 million in 2005 and $5.5 million in 2004." You reach your own conclusions."

"My agent wrote a check on the spot when I had to collect from my hospital reimbursement policy. That was such a surprise."
2007-06-03 20:46:30 EST

"We had some ice damming over the winter cause a crack in some mortar that holds rocks on the front of my house. The water came in, ran down the inside of the garage wall to the sill, then ran along the sill and caused warping and discoloration to my hardwood dining room floor. Since the water ran down through the garage, there was no evidence of the issue from the inside of the house. One day I looked behind a chest freezer in the corner of the garage and found the damage and was able to figure out what was happening. Needless to say, after two adjusters looked at the situation, they came back with a $1,500 offer above my deductible...leaving me about $5,000+ in the hole to have it properly fixed. Sate Farm is the neightbor you love to see driving away in a moving van for the last time..."
2007-06-12 16:55:56 EST

"My mother has had State Farm Car and Home Insurance for 65 years. Her FIRST claim, happening in 2007, has been denied. Her garage ceiling fell after a storm with high winds and torrential rains. State farm has happily collected premiums for all these years, yet , refused to pay one penny for clean-up, repairs, or replacement value of damaged property. We were treated very badly. I have never been treated more unbusiness-like in my life. No integrity was ever shown by State Farm. I would not send a DOG to State Farm! Beware!!!!State Farm IS NOT A GOOD NEIGHBOR! "
2007-06-14 20:52:24 EST

"My mortgage company paid State Farm $2,522. premium that was not mine. It way billed in my name, but the policy number was incorrect. The mortgage company did not go according to the account number but the name. Now I am having trouble with my agent, the State Farm home office trying to get this mess straight. When I called the home office, I was told that my policy number was correct, but the number that was billed belonged to some one else. This should not happen with an insurance company. It is taking a while to get this mess straight. In the mean time, my home owners policy was cancelled due to non payment. Also, cost is quite a bit higher than other insurance companies with same AA Best rating (if you go by that)."

"they price fix and steer customers to there preferred shops. that cut them deal and dont give the customer anything off of decd that they receive."
2007-06-29 22:46:46 EST

"Expensive, but financially strong so I don't worry about whether they'll exist after a major disaster."
2007-06-30 22:51:32 EST

"They are pulling out of my (coastal) area, even though they have no more exposure here than anywhere else -- our flood insurance is Federal, and our Windstorm insurance is under the State Catastrophic Insurance pool. The Texas Insurance commission is the worst in the nation -- we have the highest home insurance rates, despite having many fewer risks than (fr example) California, and they provide no consumer protection whatsoever."
2007-07-02 13:52:34 EST

"ask alot of questions "
2007-07-03 13:42:40 EST

"Rude, no interest in your claim. Greedy!"
2007-07-03 14:48:29 EST

"I have had Statefarm for many years, since I was a teen, but Country is offering to match their rates and then some... so I'm giving Country a shot. Hope it works out!"
2007-07-05 23:22:31 EST

"out of my pocket"
2007-07-10 17:15:38 EST

"Had other insurance companies, none of them can hold their water like STATE FARM CAN"
2007-07-17 15:56:47 EST

"Be warned: if you have a claim with State Farm, the company does NOT want your agent to be involved in your claim or to be your advocate. If you like your agent, great, but they can do nothing for you in the event of a claim."
2007-07-13 14:51:08 EST

"Rates are extremely high."
2007-07-13 15:07:39 EST

"Had fire, they wanted to blame it on some manufacturer so they could reclaim their money. couldn't find cause of fire. took 3 MONTHS to settle claim. outrageous!!!"
2007-07-19 11:05:42 EST

"I have had State Farm car and homeowners insurance for almost 40 years and never filed a claim before. My basement flooded due to very heavy rains in the area. State Farm paid NOTHING, not even for the clean up which at 61 years of age, I was unable to tackle all by myself. This company is a disgrace and I am looking for another carrier."
2007-08-12 18:02:14 EST

"When State Farm INSURES BOTH motorist' in an accident they take years to settle claim; even though other motorist is found completely at fault by police, pleads quilty in court and there are witnesses. They will give the faulty party State Farm lawyers and the State farm injured party has to hire their own lawyer. "
2007-07-21 15:28:34 EST

"Very reluctant to work with customer to get somewhat lower rate - told me that there was nothing I could do to modify premium. I found out later that this was not true."
2007-07-30 19:35:11 EST

"State Farm will do anything to get out of paying a claim. Items that other insurance firms cover state farm does not. "
2007-08-01 15:38:19 EST

"if get into an accident and are insured by STATE FARM they will try to replace every damaged part on your vehicle with -EXACT QUOTE FROM STATE FARM ADJUSTER ADJUSTER-"SALVAGED PARTS ARE CHEAPER AND SAVE US MONEY, IF YOU DONT LIKE IT FILE A COMPLAINT!!!!! OR PAY THE DIFFERANCE TO UPGRADE TO NEW MANUFTURER PARTS!!!!!!"
2007-08-05 16:56:12 EST

"In one case where, our car as well as several others had been vandalized, they settled so fast all the damage was not found for a few days after the fact. Of course we had already signed off and even though it was obvious the damage was from the vandalism they would not fix it. Another time in the only car accident I have ever had, and it was a minor fender bender, I was made to feel like a criminal, they dropped our auto insurance and still called us every week trying to sell us more coverage of other types."
2007-08-06 09:41:56 EST

"They denied wageloss benifits, I had to sue to obtain coverage I've paid for. I live in Michigan...there are no penalties for insurance companies when they deny legitamate claims. In Michigan if you sue your insurane carier and they lose....they aren't required to reimburse you for legal fees that you incure. I ended up getting only about 52 cents on the dollar."
2007-08-06 19:29:25 EST

"Unhelpful and not customer friendly -- definitely not an advocate."
2007-08-06 21:55:02 EST

"I filed a claim twice for low level hail damage to the roof and received nothing. I felt I should have at least received some compensation towards a new roof, especially since my premium has skyrocketed over the past several years."
2007-08-07 09:07:35 EST

"HANDS DOWN THE BEST COMPANY IN THE BUSINESS!!!"
2007-08-10 12:00:23 EST

"Claims people are rude and always claim that they have taken a class in subject that makes them think they are an expert. The class I believe they take is how to not pay a claim. Must verify everything they say with an independent expert or a little research to make sure you are getting your claim handled properly. It only takes about 15 minutes of homework to become more knowledgable than any of their adjusters."
2007-08-07 16:21:40 EST

"Had an auto claim where a lady hit my car(her fault) in a parking lot we both had State Farm. The car was taken in to a body shop and they fixed the body damage looks great. The break lights always stay on and the electric power to the steering wheel was lost. State farm refuse to fix the problem because theywere no sure it was because of the accident. Everything was working fine until after she hit me. State Farm is not on your side."
2007-08-10 11:26:04 EST

"Auto Claim due to another driver. State Farm would not pay. Other Drivers Insurance paid for car, Medical, Time off work, and followed up. Agent never checked on anything! Storm damage claim. State Farm paid a minor amount for siding and Windows. Other Neighbors got New Roofs, Siding, and Windows. I have been with this company for 36 yrs but I have found out They Suck. Get someone who will help you out when you need it. This company should be condemned for their practices"
2007-08-16 21:36:03 EST

"They were VERY slow in pocessing my claim and had turned it over to a college intern to handle and it sat on her desk for months."
2007-08-23 00:27:27 EST

"We were in an accident when out of state. It took several weeks and a gazillion phone calls to get answers even though there was no question as to fault (not ours). In fairness, my agent was very helpful, and in the end, we were satisified. I agree about monthly statements. I can never figure out why they go up by odd amounts. But they do keep going up, and the explanation, if there is any, is vague. After moving out of state, we are unhappy with our new agent. We are current insurance shopping and after over 20 years will likely leave State Farm. "
2007-08-29 08:27:46 EST

"They are like their own commercial. Their commercial makes fun of inexpensive companies that have a loop-hole when you try to file a claim. They have avoided three claims in four years with their own loop-holes. They have replaced older agents with State Farm employees loyal to the company and not the customer."
2007-08-29 16:54:24 EST

"15 yrs with same company, this is first claim, accident was other parties fault. No return communication from SF. No help.Poor estimation of damage, missed all damage that required looking under car - unbelievable lack of service and communication."
2007-09-01 10:13:24 EST

"Don't get into an auto accident when your home owners insurance is bundled together.. My house is in a coastal county and my hands are tied. I can't leave the home and switch the auto without jeopardizing the home. Auto is killing my budget.... Don't bundle your home and auto......."
2007-09-04 12:53:55 EST

"I WAS IN A DEADLY ACCIDENT AND I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO FIND OUT STATE FARM WOULD TRY TO REPAIR A VECHICLE THAT WAS TURNED OVER WITH MYSELF IN IT. THE AUTO WAS TOTALED, HOWEVER BEING THAT THE AUTO WAS COSTLY, STATE FARM DECIDED TO REPAIR IT AND I HAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT NOW. I WOULD NOT NEVER RECOMMEND STATE FARM TO ANYONE.0."
2007-09-05 21:37:51 EST

"We havde had homeowners insurance, auto, umbrella, boat and second home insurance with State Farm for 30 years. With no homeowners claims and in all that time. State Farm has cancelled our homeowners policy because we are within 2500 feet of a body of water. Not even taking into consideration that we have paid homeowners for 30 years - no claims during hurricanes, Northeast storms because we are very high up. In addition we are not looking for flood. But we are now faced with looking for homeowners insurance. Who would figure that they would do this to long time customers but loyalty doesn't matter."
2007-09-07 09:54:56 EST

"I had State Farm for my Auto Insurance before and they were OK, but I filed a Hail damage claim on my house and they refused to pay. Every other house on my street that did not have State Farm got new roofs from Insurance settlements, so I'm left to believe that the Hail didn't damage my house just all my neighbors? At this point I will probably have to pursue legal action, which will take time and money. All insurance companies are not the same and State Farm is down at the bottom. "
2007-09-08 15:41:33 EST

"Agent is not advocate and claims group management leaves much to be desired. On a positive note, the local competition that I contacted flunked customer service even before I was a customer."
2007-09-12 11:46:22 EST

"State Farm has a Very poor claims department with very unethical tactics on a total loss of auto. Agent took Three days to call me after claim was placed, only after I left a message. Then the agent could not help with the difficulties of the claim process and the unethical total loss unit in Colorado. I have been paying Premiums to State farm for 22 years with out any claims. If you do the math that is about 40,000 Dollars over time, with Higher Premiums when younger to lower premiums as time went on. They will be losing at least 8 Auto policies and Four Home Policies. "
2007-09-14 11:11:10 EST

"Get a second appraisal/opinion on repairs after an accident. I recently had a very bad accident. Everyone who saw photos of my vehicle after the accident automatically said the vehicle was a total loss. The day of the accident my vehicle was towed to a "certified" State Farm repair shop. They were adamant that the vehilce was not a total loss. After 5 days of disputing this, State Farm stopped paying for my replacement rental vehicle. I then had the vehicle picked up by another "certified" State Farm repair shop. This shop found the car to be a total loss."
2007-09-15 20:05:23 EST

"After last October's hail storm SF denied our claim for roof damage. Two reputable roofing companies have found damaged roofing Every other house in the neighborhood has had it's roof replaced due to hail damage. Odd that they did consider the wood on our deck to be damaged by hail and paid to have it re-finished. "
2007-09-17 21:09:38 EST

"my 3rd floor condo was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; they consider this loss to be 100% flood damage; they are dishonest and only interested in making the almighty dollar; I had 35 years of auto and home coverage with them. Bad, bad, boys abd some girls they are. "
2007-09-18 02:58:19 EST

"They came through for me when hurricane Andrew with flying colors! But times change and they are far behind in pricing. Their rating here leaves much to be desired."
2007-09-18 18:42:33 EST

"Had always been satisfied with State Farm until I sold my only vehicle and canceled my insurance for a short period of time while I shopped for another one. When I went back the agent was not friendly or helpful; acted like she had other fish to fry and told me it would take up to five days to write me a policy. I went to another company and had insurance in about twenty minutes."
2007-09-19 21:00:31 EST

"Everything was great until I had to file a claim"
2007-09-21 12:48:15 EST

"Every year at renewal time, the company dropped covers of certain actostrophies that homeowners might experience such as: mold one year; depreciated replacement cost, the next; rising water; the next; and this year, windstorm and hail. All the while annual premiums stayed the same or increased! "
2007-09-22 23:04:15 EST

"they have treated me great at all time that ive been in the office or with phone calls and the claim i had a few months ago when lightning hit the home they handle the claim fast and no hold up. very impressed"
2007-09-27 00:00:00 EST

"I have had Ins. with State Farm for more than 30 years. a guy ran into the back of me at a red light nad caused me severe back problems. It took a lawyer and over two years waiting to get a third of what my medical bills are. I hope every one cancels their policy with them after refusing to pay many claims on the coast after the hurricane. I cancelled with them!"
2007-09-27 16:22:04 EST

"State Farm is always out to squeeze every penny they can out of you."
2007-10-01 15:37:06 EST

"I was rear ended, and over a year later I now have to go to a deposition to deal with this. "
2007-10-06 12:32:17 EST

"Horrible people in total. During a long deposition, the adjuster in charge sat in a corner and ate candy. What a bunch of poorly trained people. Mistakes galore."
2007-10-06 21:49:17 EST

"Better claims handling then any other company. No other company has local claim service. Only State Farm"
2007-10-10 17:01:51 EST

"Went to a percentage based deductible. Mine went from 1000 to 2300! Bad press on Katrina settlements is also a consideration."
2007-10-16 17:09:11 EST

"Feel they should only replace 1/2 of a roof that is damaged from wind even though the shingles are discontinued and cannot be matched."
2007-10-24 14:48:16 EST

"This is a very good insurance company that looks to keep costs down and return it to the policy holders in dividends. They have always been very helpful and more than fair. If you are a bad driver or expect good coverage for nothing go elsewhere. If you are a good driver and are willing to pay for good service and helpful agents, use State Farm."
2007-10-24 15:04:06 EST

"they chew down your benefit amount whenever allowed. also deny life insurance to kids that are adhd. they state, we don't know that your child will not become bi-polar, depressed, suicidal. i despise that kind of generalization about 10 yr olds, based on his being hyper."
2007-10-24 22:48:18 EST

"I have had State Farm for 15 years. When my teenage children started driving, we had several claims to make within a two to three year period. I was afraid State Farm would not renew our policy, but they did. Our agent said it was typical for teenagers to have several accidents. Five years ago our neighborhood had hail damage. State Farm was readily available to replace our roof without hassle. Six months ago we had a leak in our bathroom causing home damages of over $10,000. Working with State Farm was painless. They worked with me, gave me advise when I asked for it, answered my calls promtly, and paid my bills in a timely manner. Three months ago, I had hail damage to my car, again, State Farm was there to assist without problems. State Farm charges more money than some other insurance companies but it is well worth it to me. I would recomend them to anyone. "
2007-11-01 12:27:13 EST

"I first of all want to say that I am very impressed with State Farm and my agent. I have had the unfortunate circumstances of having small claims and large claims w/ State Farm. I was very impressed with the way claims dealt w/ them. Jeff and his staff have always done there part in helping me find more affordable ins and showing me ways I can get more discounts on my ins. I wouldn't trust my property or life in anyone elses hands. It's kind of funny because I accidently came across this website and looked at it carefully and noticed a lot. One thing I noticed was everyone is complaining! If you look at the pie charts and see how satisfied customers are w/ all the different company's the only good ones are the tiny little ins company's that don't have nearly as many insd's. Of course there are going to be unhappy clients. In this day every where you go you see unhappy people! If all the people that were pleased w/ there ins companies spent 1/2 the amount of time writing there comments, the pie graphs would look a lot different. In fact this web site probably wouldn't exsit! "
2007-11-26 19:02:39 EST

"I had a pipe bread in one of my bedrooms. It did over $4000 worth of damage and they only want to compensate me $1000. Plus, they are rude."
2007-11-23 20:33:35 EST

"When I had a tiny fender bender I went to a top notch collision company. For this claim he said not to even file with my insurance. He also told me state farm was the best and would permit the new parts to be put on my new car unlike discount insurance which requires USED parts for your new car. Some discount insurers do not NEGOTIATE discounts for repair up front they simply pay less. With some discount insurers you are getting nothing but someone that pays less? So the next fender bender I took to the same top notch collision company. They have a million dollar paint shop. Since they are pre-certified with State Farm I merely paid my deductible. They pre-matched my bumper color, and pre-ordered the part, so all I needed to do was leave the Cadillac during one day for a few hours. I did not have to get estimates or any of that. My car was repaired in a couple of hours, not days or weeks. And once a year I can go to the local office and get a nice ATLAS. Just ask. "
2007-11-25 08:50:01 EST

"3 auto wrecks with very little rate increase. 2 not at fault and 1 at fault"
2007-11-29 06:51:03 EST

"Settled a wind damage claim for my roof by paying for half the repairs. UNACCEPTABLE. You cannot replace only half a roof."
2007-11-29 12:13:30 EST

"The best customer service. I just wish they would pay out on claims they are responsible to pay. They will take your money with ease and refuse to give it back."
2007-11-29 17:15:07 EST

"I am reluctant to reccomend State Farm upon hearing that after switching my auto policies from The Hartford to State Farm, after ten years with The Hartford, that it appears that after the current Home Owners / Hurricane & wind poiicy expires in '08, the chances are pretty good that we will not be renewed and will have to seek Insurance with the State funded Insurance Co."
2007-11-30 08:19:59 EST

"Over a thirty year period, every seven or eight years STate Farm has had a squall of vehicle mostly auto claims from our family. Their service has been excellent and professional. They provide a superior value. "
2007-12-05 13:41:40 EST

"I was surprised at the survey results showing so many unsatisfied customers. Perhaps it is the area in which I live (Longview, Texas), but my family has been very satisfied with our State Farm agent, Carl Barton, and his staff, especially Ann and Linda. We highly recommend this agency."
2007-12-06 16:38:37 EST

"insurance company blew me off for weeks then did an estimate. The damage on the car was more than 75 % of the total value. The car was to be fixed anyway and was not considered a total loss. This car will have and accident history and I will lose money from the event. The car will show damage on car fax and will hurt the resale value. I received no compensation for the depreciation of the value of the car. I was not at fault and was the victim in this accident. My car is no longer my baby, it is just a car that could have future problems with the axles and differential bearings considering it took a hard hit on both rims and twisted the suspension out from under the car.... "
2007-12-07 16:05:13 EST

"We have had a number of auto claims over the past twenty years and State Farm has always been prompt, courteous and very satisfactory in every way."
2007-12-12 16:01:54 EST

"Some of their agents are to old in the business and tend to neglect their policy holders. New policies, renewals are always welcomed. God help you if you ever run into a problem they leave out in the cold. THIS NOT A GOOD NEIGHBOR! "
2007-12-14 21:20:49 EST

"Annual Insurance rates have increased from 8-18% every years (we have multiple rental properties insured, and business policies, homeowners, auto, and umbrella)"
2007-12-30 11:48:09 EST

"prices are good and the serivce is great!"
2007-12-31 12:24:52 EST

"took 8 visits by different adjusters and after all the runaround they just blew me off with a small attempt to settle. i just paid to have the car repaired myself. "
2008-01-02 10:15:18 EST

"Don't use the vendors they refer you to - overpriced."
2008-01-07 14:20:46 EST

"The best insurance company and claims force I have ever encountered. The claims people are very knowledgable and caring during the claim process."
2008-01-08 13:57:46 EST

"My home insurance claim was a nightmare that took over one year to resolve. Then they still didn't provide coverage as provided for in my policy. Secondly, I applied for life insurance, and it seems that having a complicated pregnancy 17 years ago counts against me. I couldn't believe it."
2008-01-08 16:24:26 EST

"STATE FARM SUCKS! THEY DONT WANT TO PAY FOR ANYTHING!"
2008-01-10 17:58:47 EST

"State farm is so bad that if a tornado hit, they would say the wind blew from a different direction and they wouldn't pay for the damages! They suck really bad!"
2008-01-09 16:46:16 EST

"Beware. If you have a home fire get an adjustor, please save yourself a nervous breakdown! Nothing but problems with this company I've been with for 25 years. Case of arson and now they want to drop me! Have gone through 5 claim adjustors also. 3 years since the fire and claim is still not settled. Fixing the house after arson was always a fight with State Farm. They didn't want to give me anything. I can not express how important it is to get a public adjustor and not have to live in terror because of a claim! I am not a public adjustor, I am a victim of arson who doesn't want anyone to go through what I have."
2008-01-17 03:12:36 EST

"The comments here are very interesting; Paid premiums for 30 years.... Claim was denied... etc. I'm not an agent but I do understand insurance. I pay for it and I pay dearly, why shouldn't I take the time to understand the industry and how my policies work. 1, your policy is not a savings account entitling you to having a non-covered loss paid just because you've been paying in premiums "for all these years". 2, Know what's covered and what's not. So many of you are ready to jump ship because your leak-over-time was not covered and you were stuck with a loss. 3, Just because your neighbor's roof was replaced doesn't mean your's was "damaged" i.e., better shingles, newer shingles, not enough "damage" to affect the integrity of the shingle, etc. It's always humorous to see how many people want money coming from someone else's pocket. I've been a State Farm insured for over 20 years, I've had losses that were covered and those that weren't. The one's denied were clearly spelled out in my "policy/contract". It's a contract people, read it and understand it! Most all auto and homeowners policies are very similar. If State Farm denied your claim, other companies probably would have too. Also get to understand the industry, the reason we purchase insurance to begin with. It's not a maintenance policy and I've accepted that. If you have a valid dispute, contact your State's Dept of Insurance and file a complaint. They ALL get answered. Bottom line is, most of the complaints I've read are due to NOT reading/understanding your policy/contract and thinking you're "entitled" to be paid just because you pay premiums. If you're not satisfied with your agent, or you think your agent is too pushy, find a new one. Interview them until you find one you're comfortable with. Seems pretty elementary people, it's YOUR premium dollars, get your money's worth!"

"Had two property damage claims in past 4 years due to weather related...way out of my control and I didn't try and stick them with any false damages. After 22 years with this company, they are not renewing my insurance. "

"Delayed seeing car for estimation of damage. Gave a very low estimate. Promises of reasonable service at auto place consisted of used parts in car, long wait time for car repairs and paperwork not attended to."

"Had to go to arbitration and ended up with only a partial settlement for severly wind and hail damaged roof, even though all my neighbor's non-State Farm insurance companies covered all damage without months of hassle. Also, if you read your policy you will discover that State Farm will not rebuild your home to the same quality level if destroyed, and the policy also excludes many things that you assume are covered (for example, only a maximum of $1000 worth of firearms and $1000 worth for jewelry). As soon as I send this survey I am leaving my home to meet with an alternative agent. Goodby State Farm, after 43 years of payments."

"The flood that destroyed my house was more enjoyable than the two years that I have had to deal with State Farm's claims representatives. I am on my fifth claims rep this month, as the turnover in the company seems to make it impossible to deal with a singe person. I would change companies, but no one else will take me after a major claim."

"Roof damage due to hail, didn't want to cover. The whole neighborhood got coverage (they all didn't have state farm) for roof damage. The only denies were us and another who had state farm! But they did want to cover new window screens not even affected by the storm!! "

"SF used to be the best claims organization. State Farm has changed. The small stuff they handle just fine. i had an auto claim involving a lawsuit. they failed to investigate the facts. State Farm's poor claim handling was costly. State Farm today is no better than any other insurer."

"i have been a state farm p.h for over 30 yrs, i was a co owner of a s.f. agency for 8 yrs (until divorce) beware of any managers telling you / you & spouse can run it like a partnership / as if a divorce comes up you are then nothing to them (i.e. audios examigo) there are many wonderful agents & managers i have shared & learned from, & this was once the best ins. co. in the world however, since hurricane andrew came along that good feeling s.f. used to have towards there agents & their customers has vanished now they are arrogant with a capital A recently i had a minor accident 2,500 damage to the other party/ no tickets were issued thanks to my agent jumping in there the claim was paid by s.f. after i lost in small claims ct. the agents are what made the co. great to bad the upper management has forgotten that..... i am now happily with a independant agency.. where we still treat people with respect... not arrogance...p.s. s.f you should damn well be ashamed not paying for wind driven water claims concerning katrina hello does the word hurricane mean high wind?"

"Our insurance has been with State Farm for over 25 years. We have had numerous claims, vehicle and homeowners we have filed with them over the years. State Farm is always friendly, courteous and quick with assistance, adjusters, and payment. However, our vehicle was legally parked and was hit by another vehicle. Their insurance was thru Progressive. What a night mare!!!!! It looks like our ins. co. will have to repair our vehicle and sue Progressive..... Progressive Insurance Ads are lies..... they might have cheap premiums, but, remember, you get what you pay for! and they are not quick with handling claims. The accident was their insured's fault, but they have treated us like it was our fault. Our vehicle was legally parked.... Not only did the other driver hit our vehicle, but tore the entire front bumper off the car, damaged both front fenders, bent the frame, and other damages. The Progressive Insurance claims adjusters we have dealt with are arrogant, rude and treat you like you are an idiot. The police report clearly stated the other driver was at fault.... Always go with a reputable insurance company, even if it costs more bucks up front..... "

"S.F. did not renew my homeowners insurance after I filed a claim for water damage to personal items in the basement due to the sump pump failing. I was told that they would not renew my policy because I filed a claim a few months short of 3 years with them. I had no control over my sump pump breaking at that time!!!! Prior to this, I had never filed a homeowners claim with any insurance company since buying my home in 1991. I would never recommend them to anyone!!!! "

"I crashed my bike, police reported it was not my fault, the driver of the car was not the owner of the car and was not covered by insurance (some kind of Viking insurance). I got huge bills from hospital and AMR (totaled over 24k). So State Farm sent me check covering the repair cost of the bike, but, they failed to pay off medical bills, claiming they failed collecting money from that Viking insurance. So, I dunno what to do, hospital and AMR are about to send my case to collection agency. That is going to make it impossible for me even to find an apartment for rent."

"I am 56 years old, had one accident in 1969, not my fault, had my last accident Feb 2008. State Farm Insurance covers me, and I say that with tongue in cheek. Not my fault, guy came across two lanes of traffic to hit me in the passenger front fender. I have a 1990 Hond Accord ex, since new. The car was absolutely flawless. Has all the whistles and bow that Honda offered on a 90 model. $2113, total damages, they tell me the car is totaled, want to offer me $1990, and I have more recent receipts of upkeep on the car totallying $3300. I have had State Farm Insurance since 1973.The adjusters don't know what to do or are trying severly to save the compnay money in claims. I have never been afraid to drive my cars, now with the claim being handled as it is, I hate to drive in fear of loosing a TOTAL accident claim with STATE FARM. They have attempted to contact the other party ONE time, with now response, my police report shows where the other party was at fault, and now I suffer....it has been 16 days with no settlement, I had use of a rental for the maximum days, and now miss work. Please rethink your policy with State farm..."

"I LOVE State Farm. I have filed claims with them in the past. Both times I was treated with with respect by a very courteous customer service agent. My claims were always covered, always covered quickly, always covered without question. My most recent claim was for the paint on my car being eaten by a llama! Yes, they covered it with no question. I used to have SF Homeowners insurance. Filed a claim for wind damage to my roof. They covered is without question. If you need insurance. Go for State Farm! "

"I called State farm to report a claim about celing leaks in my apartment which destroyed property. I called them right away after there was huge downpour from the ceiling and had to move my stuff away. I was told them "Roof is leaking" instead of "celing is leaking"..claim was denied.. Reason: Roof is not covered whereas ceiling is ...Strange reasoning..i am still fighting it"

"State Farm is hands down the best in the industry. After doing some research I found that since they are a Mutual company they don't care about stocks rising or lowering. When Katrina hit they were handing out checks to policy holders no matter what type of policy you had. If your looking to insure anything State Farm is the way to go."

"In reading all survey comments I find many are are simply unaware that: 1) No insurance policy covers a flooded basement not even Federal Flood Insurance as they exclude all levels below floor grade. 2) State Farm spent billions covering Katrina losses. Those disappointed living next to an ocean seeking flood coverage under a homeowner policy should have visited with their agent first. They get a commission for explaining and selling insurance. 3) Structures that are improperly constructed with leaky pipes can not use an insurance policy as a maintenance policy. 4) The allegation that State Farm won't settle a claim with two policyholders is ridiculous. There are laws that deal with bad faith that make such a delay extremely costly. The delay was probably due to a demand for setllement that could not be substantiated. 5) The shop that failed to total a car with a subsequent shop declaring the car a total was probably the estimate that the claim was settled. Don't blame State Farm for doing what was right by getting and/or accepting another opinion to be fair. 6)A State Farm Agent can't or won't be your advocate in a claim is hog wash. Just ask any one of them. "

Could not tell or find a contractor who would do work for this small amount of repair cost. They said this was the industry standard. Water damage to ceiling was quoted to water spot repair but not to paimt ceiling to match. Rep. was very rude and non professional. Adjuster damaged gutter while attemping to climb on roof. State Farm refuses to acknowledge that damage."

"All you other people commenting on how bad state farm is, they didn't pay this claim, yadda yadda yadda probably have no idea how your insurance works. And that is probably due to the agent you have used or currently use. State Farm will do anything for their clients and their top management isn't in this to make money for shareholders. In fact they budget to try and break even every year. And in regards to being dropped for your homeowners insurance, having one or two claims in a policy year will get you dropped from any company. Its not just State Farm that does that. State Farm is by far the best in the industry, you people complaining just need to be more educated by your agents. "

"State Farm is by far the best insurance company. All those claims I read about in this website seems more like the policyholders don't know what their policy covers. The claim for the '90 Honda where State Farm determined a total loss and paid out what the vehicle is worth, was fair. You can't expect to get back your money for upkeep, oil changes, carwashes etc.. You get what the car is worth! One quick hint to everyone reading this website, read your policy.."
2008-04-29 09:00:16 EST

"If you are fortunate enough to have a good insurance rep, State Farm can be a good company to deal with. However, they are extremely litigous and seem to practically dictate most state auto insurance laws which tilts things to their benefit. I had autos insured with them for 30 years and finally got sick and tired of them when I got shifted to another know-nothing, do-nothing agent who was only interested in collecting premiums not answering questions, running quotes (for new business!), etc. The final straw was an accident with another State Farm customer - the idiot ran a red light and broadsided me, putting me in the hospital and causing some permanent nerve damage in my neck. Since State Farm saw this as a lose-lose situation, they delayed as much as possible, had my totalled car "repaired" & I still wound up having to go to a lawyer to get the whole mess settled so that my medical bills were paid. Bottom line: they're too big a company, a little expensive, & don't seem to care about their customers anymore. They never even asked why a customer of 30+ years dropped them!"
2008-04-29 19:36:48 EST

"When dealing with State Farm I have always had the best. When having a claim, they make it an easy process unlike others companies who you have to wait for weeks & months for a resolvement. I would be with no other company & my agent is excellent as well as his staff!"

"After paying home insurance premiums(and car insurance premiums) to State Farm for 20 years, I got a phone call from my agent saying that they were no longer willing to insure me because I am located within 2500 feet of a body of water. I have never filed a claim on my homeowner policy. They also had previously threatened to revoke my auto insurance when my daughter was involved in 2 accidents within a 2 year span. They basically told me that, if I wanted to keep my auto insurance, I should avoid filing claims - what a racket!!"

"Our house burned down, and the claim went through great! No problems. Then they dropped us."
2008-05-03 13:00:02 EST

"We've had home owner's insurance with State Farm for over 35 years and never had a claim. Last summer, our house got struck by lighening leaving 4 large holes in one section of our roof. We asked State Farm to send an adjustor out and they refused to do so 3 times. Instead they wanted us to get 3 estimates to fix the roof then pick a contractor to do the work. After getting the first estimate, they gave that contractor the OK to repair the roof though that contractor is not the one we wanted to do the work. Because the roof was 18 years old, and the replacement shingles could not be matched to the existing roof, we opted to have the holes repaired and the entire roof reshingled. We have replacement coverage however State Farm refused to even consider that the shingles would not match and nit-picked that the contractor was installing $100 of sheeting membrane for the affected valley as the lightening damaged the existing metal flashing in the valley. Their reason was that the membrane wasn't on the roof to begin with totally ignoring the fact that the roofing contractors don't use metal flashing anymore and, even if they did, that flashing had to be replaced. Furthermore we were told by the adjustor's manager that we were 'out of line' in getting our roof repaired without State Farm's approval and had they known the extent of the damage, they would have send an adjustor out. Once again, ignoring the fact that we asked 3 times for an adjustor to come out. It reached a point that we felt that we were being harrassed by State Farm. To say that the agent and the adjustor's manager were rude is an understatement. We do not know if we will stay with State Farm. We have no sense of security now that we know how they handle claims. They should change their slogan: Like a good swindler, State Farm is there."

"I have had only 1 bad experience but it was minor. A valet parker in downtown Dallas purposely ran in front of my car as i just started moving out of a lot. He put his hand on hood of my car and rolled away w/o even being touched other than his hand on my hood. Long story short...he went to hospital and put in claim against my insurance co. and he knew exactly how much to put down....just enough to get S F to pay and not do an investigation. I believe they paid him $4,000.00. I wasn't even sighted for a hit and run but yet S F still paid him. My rates did not go up. They really are the best ins co out there and would recommend them to anyone. Just read your contract and if in doubt have someone knowledgable explain it to you. I have and know exactly what i'm paying for. Don't complain unless you have a legitimate gripe. It doesn't do others any good if you make a false report because you don't understand your policy. "

"My Insurance Agent does take calls if she is in the office. If not, she has hired an assistant that answers policy questions correctly and returns calls within one business day. The only issue I had was receiving a few advertisements about banking and investing with State Farm. I received the mailings for about one year the first year I was a policy holder. Now I do not get the junk mail. A plus I'll share is that about 18 years ago, I was involved in a bad auto accident that turned out to be my fault. State Farm hired and attorney for me and defended me in court. The attorney was excellent. I was sued and then the charges were dropped. Eight months later State Farm would not renew my policy. I did not try to renew my State Farm policy for about 8 years. When I decided to try to get a State Farm policy, they took me back at the best price I could find for the coverage I have. To me, State Farm forgave my past mistake and now provides great service. I hope this advice helps, especially anyone who may have had an experience like mine in the past. "

2008-06-02 16:27:31 EST

"I live in Arkansas and my roof was damaged in the two storms in April/May. Three of my neightbors had their roofs damaged and 2 of them were compensated by their insurance company. Another one agreed to pay only 1/2 so he said forget it and dropped his insurance company. I had water stain on my dining wall so I asked a roofer to come out and gave me an estimate. He came out and immediately said my roof suffered hail damages and he showed me the spots where they were hit. Next day I called the claim office a week later they sent out the adjuster who's in Tulsa. The adjuster said to come on Thursday and he showed up on Wednesday so I didn't even see him. He concluded that my roof suffered from heat blistering instead of hail damages. He came out 2nd time to meet with my roofer and still concluded it's heat blistering and so they refused to repair my roof. I called another roofer to get 2nd opinion and he said the same thing as the first roofer, hail damages. The 2nd roofer looked at the whole roof whereas the first one only looked at the spot where the water stain is. I called the claims office and they said it's still denied because they don't believe it's hail damage. I said I can provide them pictures to prove it and they said they wouldn't evaluate my claim since they already made up their mind. The adjuster who came out didn't even look at the water stain in my dinning room. My agent called and said SF will setup a conference call so the adjuster, roofer, and I could talk. Well the adjuster called a few days later and said "Sorry, we can't do conference call. It's a waste of his time since they don't believe it's hail damage." I called my agent and he told me he would talk to different adjuster but after couple times he basically told me the same thing the 1st adjuster said. If they can't even send out an adjuster to meet or even attempt to conference with the roofer and me I have to say that's the worse kind of service I've seen. They told me to get another opinion from a structural engineer but I have to pay the fee. I said screw you, I am not going to waste my money to hire a structural engineer when they can just send out their adjuster to meet with the roofer. They said they don't trust the roofers I told them well I don't trust your own adjuster anyway. The adjuster I talked on the phone with didn't want to anything. I asked him to send/email the pictures of the roof he took. At first he denied to do that saying his system won't allow him to do that. Fifteen minutes before that I asked him if I could send him pictures showing hail damage to his email adress and he said that's fine but now he said he couldn't send those pictures he took to me. Then I asked to fax them to me, he said he didn't have color fax machine. I said then fax me the black/white. Finally he did. The pictures he took only showed the area around the water stain/leak. He didn't take picture at other places on the roof. I am looking for another company. State Farm will do anything to get out of paying claim. This is my first claim ever and I already experienced horrible service. I can hardly image what the next one will be like."

"State Farm agent was supposed to change home rental policy last July to a rental policy.... I provided all the requested information in July, March of this year I get a letter from State Farm stating that my coverage was not being renewed, agent had not done anything about changing the policy type back in July, yet it is my fault.... What a joke.... Wife had policy for income coverage, due to illness etc, after it was discovered she had cancer, SF did pay out on the policy, however the agent's team thought it was fantastic that SF paid out on this policy, and was it not great. (Apparently they thought it was good to have some one get Cancer, when I asked what they meant by that they didn't have much to say). After 15 + years I am taking my little book of business else where. "

I am disappointed that my premium increased on this vehicle 10%. The last claim we filed was in 2000, First Party also, different driver."

"State farm took very good care of me during my car accident and home fire, both of which were not my fault. However I felt my rates did not come down with time since they attached the stigma of a claim against my name even though both accidents were not my fault. I keep getting much lower rates elsewhere, but I am sure those are teaser rates , waiting to be hiked at the first accident. AT tleast here , with the auto, I am in a plan where I will not get a rate hike if I get an accident or ticket ie. my first ticket is forgivable. "

"We have had insurance with State Farm for well over 30 years in several states. We are as happy with them as one can be with an insurance company. "

"State Farm declared my car, a 2008 Altima, as repairable after recovered from theft. Their estima was $10700.00. After two months on inactivity at the repair shop, I found out today that their estimate was exceeded by $12000.00. I only paid 21000.00 for the car. Why didn't State Farm make a cash settlement with me? The total repair cost is now $22,700.00. The claim adjuster and team shoud be fired. I am sure this car will never be the same. The car was only 5 weeks old since I took delivery. Only 1007 miles on it. You figure this one out."

"This insurance company just wants to collect your money. When it is time for them ta take any claims, they will turn back from you."
2008-07-03 14:14:40 EST

"Our Agent was extremely unresponsive to requests for help and information on protecting property. Previous services, offered for years, keep getting cut. No incentives for customers of long standing. "

"I have never seen such an incompetent department as the claims department, very very dissatisfied w/State Farm. First home claim and cannot believe how this is being handled."
2008-07-17 11:14:05 EST

"I read all this complains and I have to wonder how many are due to the policy holder not reading what their coverages are. If you're taking your time to research other companies, I would suggest reading your policy first and I guarantee you'll be surprised to find out why some of your claims are denied.,......"

"Didn't hava an accident or ticket for 18 years. Had a minor accident (stopped in traffic) women I hit had 3 stories of what happened. I did hit her so fair enough . . .except now she said she was hurt. SF didn't even question. Total bill was around $5000 and they raised my rates $33 a month so they are not even paying for claim - I am. "

"I ve used state farm for my insurances since 1989, gradually adding a policy as life changes, making changes, added my teenages, they got married, went from multi car to one car, always paid my premiums on time and in full, only claim I've ever made was a non insured driver on my daughters car, 3 cars 3 policies, I ve had 1 ticket over 15 years ago and nothing since. this last spring when my son left home, he wanted his own policy without my name on it. We did that and oh what an unapologetic mess they made of it all, last month I think I got mine sorted out, but the way I ve been treated, Ive just been taken for granted, and I am shopping around. My son his is still not sorted out 6 months later and he has had about enough- would I now recommend them to anyone no, previously I did and look what happened."

"Never filed a claim, however in reviewing a lot of comments negative and positive, one important thing to point out is state farm is a mutual company. They are not owned by shareholders, they are owned by their customers. GJ Mecherle designed this company to be customer focused and fair for each risk. If the company profits, the owners recieve dividends! Customers are the owners! I advise to read the policy and know what is covered, and keep in mind regardless of how long you've been with the company they have to be fair with everyone according to the policy"

"very expensive homeowners policy......"
2008-07-30 13:01:29 EST

"14 years and not single claim on our house until this spring when severe weather ripped off a large number of shingles off the roof. Many other shingles were bent, etc. State Farm refused to cover it saying the roof was not installed properly 14 years ago. My State Farm agent was rude, confrontational and also felt it necessary to give me a political lecture on this years presidential election and how Obama supporters were idiots. Needless to say I was shocked and appalled by this behavior. He offered no help and was definitely not like a good neighbor. He also told me my deductible would go from $1000 to 1% of the house value. After 14 years, we're done with State Farm."
2008-07-28 22:37:04 EST

"An individual turned right on red in front of me. I honked horn and he hit brakes to force and accident. My bumper barely made impact. Two different people stopped and offered to be a witness. The highway patrol issued the other driver a summons for failure to yield on a right on red. We both had State Farm, I for 20 years. State Farm took 4 months to resolve and pay to fix my bumper."
2008-08-04 18:31:28 EST

"I have been insured with State Farm Insurance since 1980. I have never had a problem with them. Whether I am filing a claim or just trying to find out general information, their service have always been exceptional. I was a victim of hurricane hugo in 1989 and the speed and professionalism in which state farm handled my claim exceeded my expectation. While all of my neighbors were experiencing problems with their insurance companies in filing their claims, State Farm was vigoriously proceesing my claims to insure all my repairs were done on a timely basis. These are the reasons, after 28 years I am still with them and have no intention of leaving them for another insurance company."
2008-08-05 10:20:14 EST

"I was with State farm for nearly fifteen years, both home and auto. They are not inexpensive, but their service and quickness on handling claims has been excellent. On the other hand, they cancelled my homeowner's policy for a single claim (for less than $4k!), giving me a month's notice. They also cancelled a personal property policy of mine without notice or reason. They certainly play it safe by trying to cover low-risk clients and are quick to cancel if a client's risk is perceived as increasing, customer loyalty be damned."
2008-08-11 18:12:59 EST

"I am an independant adjuster. State Farm is a great company and if they don't pay your claim, it simply isn't covered. If there is way to cover the damages they will pay them. I find it amazing that people will belive a roofer over an adjuster. Roofers MAKE MONEY by selling you a roof. I've NEVER met a roofer that didn't think a roof was hail or wind damaged. Just ask a barber if you need a haircut. Same thing. As an indpendant adjuster, I get paid based on what I pay you. The more I pay the more I get paid. Why would I deny a legitimate claim?"
2008-08-12 22:59:38 EST

"I have had multiple insurance policies (8) with State Farm for over 30 years. Until the past year I have never filed a claim. However, in the past year I have had to file 3 claims due to storm damage. One of these claims was denied. This week I received a letter from State Farm stating that in 30 days, when my home owners policy was due to be renewed, they (State Farm) would not be renewing the policy. They gave no reason as to why other than they reserve the right to deny renewal on any policy. Being that I had to shop for a new Home Owners policy, I also move 7 other policies from State Farm to Nationwide."
2008-09-03 19:07:35 EST

"had a rather simple homeowners claim after 20 years with the company. The adjusters used delay tactics, argued over settlement amounts even though we had multiple bids, changed their statements about what they agreed to, etc. It has been over 45 days and counting with no resoloution and nothing in writing"
2008-09-05 08:18:48 EST

"denied me twice when a pipe broke in the wall and flooded my entire home."
2008-09-10 03:52:59 EST

"State Farm paid off like a slot machine each time we had a hail storm here in North Texas. That includes my home and my autos and they have always allowed me to get my vehicle repaired at the body shop I desired. My daughter's truck was badly vandalized at college and we turned in a claim with a police report and they paid it minus the deductible. I have been with 4 different agents because of retirements and deaths of our agents and I can tell you the two old timers we had for agents was like owning a pit bull dog that was a one owner dog. They were always in your corner protecting you!"
2008-09-21 01:37:28 EST

"I have had State Farm for 17 years. I have had 3-4 auto claims (hail, fender bender, etc) and have never had a problem with them processing my claim or penny-pinching the amount. My parents have had State Farm for over 25 years, have had several claims on the house (roof, water damage) and several cliams on their cars and have also never experienced a problem. I have no worries that they will not cover any of my claims."
2008-09-11 09:28:27 EST

"will tell you that you are getting screwed and then proceed to do it; but slowly and drawn out.......still going on vehicle was damaged by another person insured by state farm. and we are also insured by state farm. Accident happened first part of July 08 it is now September 11, 08 not settled yet..... Not a Happy Camper....."
2008-09-11 13:28:31 EST

"I have had a few claims with State Farm over the years and in every instance I could not believe how generously I was treated. Their multiline discounts are great and they even gave me money back this year on my auto policies because their claims were lower than expected."
2008-09-12 14:24:19 EST

"Claim service was very prompt. Staff was very plesant and helpful.Have recommended State Farm to friends, family and co-workers."
2008-09-17 13:38:54 EST

"State Farm says they are like a good neighbor. However they only want your premiums. They will cancel you if you file a claim."

"They are dropping my homeowners due to where I live"
2008-09-19 11:28:15 EST

"I filed a claim after a drunk driver damaged my property. He was driving his girlfriends car. She was insured with State Far and so am I. She reported the car stolen with the keys in the ignition 12 hours after the accident. Her boyfriend was injured but fled scene. State Farm wants me to file on my homeowners insurance and pay a 1000.00 deductable. I may have no choice but State Farm will never receive another penny from me ever. I have been a 20 year loyal customer and this is the treatment I received."
2008-09-24 08:18:52 EST

"My insurance keeps going up and I am 37 years old, female with no tickets or wrecks ever!! My credit score is great but I was told my insurance went up because I am not getting a multi-line discount anymore..That is crazy.. I am paying more than my husband who has a wreck and tickets. I do NOT understand that..."

"changing policy deductibles to make homeowner pay more. Im paying insurance co. to take risk. Im not their partner!!!!!!!!"
2008-09-25 21:04:39 EST

"One advice I would give is to read your policy and understand what your coverages are. State Farm is the number 1 carrier in the U.S. and it must be for a reason. Also hitting bike riders should be your fault regardless of him/her being a bum and even "bums" should receive compesation. "
2008-10-01 10:38:54 EST

"Wife had a bike rider hit her. Bike rider was not hurt and a homeless bum. State Farm took the side of the bum since they did not want to go to court and try to stick it on our record. After confronting State Farm claims adjuster and questioning how the bum was injured we found they did not question the bum and was going to pay out $13,000. for medical with no questions and no hospital report or bill since he never went to a hospital and was able to drive his bike away. The state farm agent openly said "We would rather pay him off then have to go to court since it would cost us money even though it may not be true" We intend to file a complant with the department of justice. No claim went against our policy but State Farm will only do the right thing if caught. I would bet alot of Bike Vs Car claims were awarded to the wrong person because of State Farm and these people are now paying a higher fee because of the dishonest claims state farm pays out."
2008-09-29 23:53:41 EST

"I have been with State farm over 25 years and have had numerous broken windshield claims over the years and one vandalism claim that were all paid 100% with zero deductible. I also had an accident where someone pulled from a driveway right into the side of my car. The claim was paid 100% by the pther person's insurance co. (Allstate) No cost to me and the agent was great. Only one claim on the home...storm damage. We were satisfied with the end result."
2008-09-30 08:10:05 EST

"Am very angry they are cancelling homeowners insurance on Florida residents after we have paid in to them for years and I personally have never filed a claim for hurricanes. Only 1 claim in 21 years for broken pipe underground. State Farm is trying to sell me a Citizens policy now and I have heard some bad things about Citizens, plus they are higher than other quotes I've received."
2008-10-03 09:03:05 EST

"After 20 years I made my first claim after my truck was burglarized. The claims department gave me the run around on 200.00 they would have to pay after my 500.00 deductible for a damaged bumper that I was not sure had or had not been damaged by the burglars. I am going to shop elsewhere for a company that is not going to call me and tell me no to 200.00. After telling them I am taking my business elsewhere they agreed to do the work. I told the to forget it. It's the principal. So much for loyalty. "
2008-10-10 16:41:24 EST

"I did have to file a claim with my company and the company did make some initial calls that I believed were unfair and inaccurate. However, I requested a reconsideration of the decisions and received what I believed was a fair decision. The company did pay the claim at what I believed was a fair price."
2008-10-22 14:03:32 EST

"I've never had a problem with this company. I really like our agent. He is the most significant reason I like this company. We made a claim after our car was rear-ended and the company handled everything quickly and professionally. We didn't have to worry about anything. I thought that where money was concerned, they were fair."
2008-10-09 15:05:55 EST

"State Farm has always treated me like gold. I appreciate an agent who sits down with me and answers my questions and offers professional advice. I like to know what I'm covered for BEFORE it happens, that way I can decide if I'm willing to take the risk or buy more coverage. "
2008-10-12 20:52:26 EST

"it's great but expensive for me."
2008-10-13 11:36:16 EST

"Auto accident was caused by another also insured by state farm. She admitted fault from the start and 3.5 years later and my 50k dually still not right and a knee surgery and huge loss of business later they just took my deposition.I believe they hope something else catostraughic may happen if they drag it out long enough so the victims will no longer be around to collect any settlement. They ruin peoples lives without any remorse."
2008-10-15 14:53:40 EST

"State Farm Insurance (home & Auto) for 44 years no claims. My premium inceased 20%. Will drop them."
2008-10-22 12:18:58 EST

"I've had 2 claims, one on my car and one on my home. The adjusters under value their estimates and you have to threaten to sue to get thier attention."
2008-10-19 01:05:40 EST

"I just had two claims with State Farm this year. A hit and run on my truck, the adjuster was out on monday and by the end of the week I had a check in my hand to get it fixed. The other was a windshield replacement and although the no longer cover fixing the chips, it did take care of most of the windshield. "
2008-10-20 16:35:31 EST

"Customer for 15+ years and with the lightning and rain the past 2 years, had to file 2 claims and received a "nonrenew letter" from them. Claims is FABULOUS to deal with but underwriting is running their rep into the ground."
2008-10-21 18:46:43 EST

"Bunch of crooks who lie."
2008-10-21 14:10:21 EST

"State Farm has always been reliable and fair to us. We found out just how fair when our daughter recently was rear ended and her car totalled. The other driver is insured by Traveler's Insurance. They are dragging us through this process and trying to devalue her car. State Farm has been most helpful to us in guiding us through this process even though we only had liability on our daughter's car."
2008-10-21 14:26:06 EST

"Very slow in processing a claim. High rates and when you have one claim in over 25 years they do not want to pay. "

"The availability of a local agent and the ability to get your questions and resolve problems face to face. "
2008-11-03 17:57:12 EST

"It took over a week to do 2 estimates (they forgot some items during the 1st estimate) while my car was at a reputable dealership. Now they won't pay for 3 days of my rental because my car was ready to pick up on Friday & we couldn't pick it up until Monday. "
2008-11-05 19:56:58 EST

"state farm used to be an exceptional insurance company until hurricane katrina. i have had nothing but hassle ever since. we are currently dealing with them to repair my 2008 lexus and they are demanding that the auto body shop (who in itself has an impecable reputation for quality) to cut corners and use standards that are lower that what the car manufacturer instructs for repair quality. don't buy insurance from state farm. you've been warned. i must also mention that we have been with them for 17 years, had a two claims over that time period (not our fault) and they are treating us like we are new customers, and are indifferent about whether we leave them or not. no loyalty on their part. it's too bad these days. "
2008-11-04 13:26:09 EST

"Don't have a claim. Local agent is never available, does not return phone calls and the regional office isn't much better. Bad faith insurer, too bad it took me over 25 years to find this out."
2008-11-18 17:42:36 EST

"We NEVER received a Homeowner's Policy Manual OR Auto Policy Manual from State Farm and despite being in the middle of a flood claim with them since February 11, 2007, we are still fighting for retribution. We have also notified them of having never received this documentation and still have yet to see manuals. This specifically is a problem that even friends and family have also verified as an issue with the company. Certain agents have been incredibly difficult to work with and they have not complied with state laws to return legal misrepresentation letters. "
2008-11-10 16:18:45 EST

"Performing yearly review of my policy I determined I needed to increase my policy limits. There have been 3 price estimates for the same policy (no changes made on my part). There have been multiple errors on forms that were rejected from the corporate office, including wrong name on application. I reviewed the documents and contacted my rep. and mentioned my concerns, they advised to follow her written instructions on the form, (I did so). Two weeks later the corporate office rejects the forms for the same issues I mentioned before returning the forms to my local rep. End result 6 weeks later the policy limits have not changed per my request. I was trying to increase my liability limits. State Farm advised they would need to write an Umbrella Policy, not increase the existing homeowners policy."
2008-11-10 23:40:44 EST

"State Farm tagged my property as flood damaged when it is not in a flood plain and they did not pay on any claim."

"Home owners insurance increased $300.00 dollars in one year. No explanation recieved."

"Dishonest insurance company. VERY UNSATISFIED. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
2008-11-16 01:47:42 EST

"State Farm has been very responsive to my claims and not once raised my rates, since I was not at fault in a couple of accidents, and had a car stolen and another broken into over the past 15 years. State Farm has always paid out and repaired my vehicles to my satifaction. For those of you out their complaining about substandard parts read your policy. State Farm reserves the right to use non-oem equipment to repair your vehicle when it doesn't affect its value or appearance. My agent has always been there for me and has gone out of his way"
2008-11-16 10:29:09 EST

"Wonderful agents, low rates & quick claim resolution. "
2008-11-17 12:18:26 EST

"I have been unable to live in my home for the past three weeks due to a broken sewer line under the foundation that flooded my home. State Farm is unwilling to pay for anything other than dry wall and two bathroom vanities. It is necessary for the plummer to jackhammer my bathroom floors to reach the broken pipe. The cost for repairs to just the plumming is $25,000 so needless to say I need my insurance to cover the cost of bringing my bathrooms back into a useable state."
