"Ameriprise is very unprofessional if you make a claim. They bounce you around and under estimate claims. I have been working for over 5 months to get a home claim settled (less than 10,000). I have had to hire a public adjuster to help to get a fair settlement and file a grievance with the state dept. of insurance."

"They will not tell you about secret policy loops and try to take more of your money. I havent had a claim yet, I hope I never have to if they are as bad as their customer service. They told me of a refund several times, I never saw it. They gave me exact deposit dates, I never received them. LIARS!"

"At first renewal notice they increased premium by 35%. When we called, so say that nothing had changed from when we join six monthes earlier, they said that nothing could be done. Deffinatley a bate and switch scam to join. Stay away from this company!"

"Auto insurance service is horrible. Submitted a flood claim and Ameriprise responsiveness was horrendous. It took more than 1 month to get my car fixed because of the incompetant claims agents/ advisors. The repair shop even commented on how slow Ameriprise was to respond. Unbelievable."

"I have had Ameriprise Auto and Home insurance for 5 years now. In May there was a hail strom and everybody in my neighborhood is getting their roofs replaced. I called Ameriprise and they sent out an adjuster who said I only had damage on the right side of my roof and they would not pay. I will not renew my policy and I will not recommed this company!!! "

"I had an accident on 8/25, on 9/22 the claims rep informed me that she could not pull up a police report off the internet so no claim with the other persons insurance company was filed. I had to pull up the police report and fax it over to ameriprise, after they recieved the report and finally contacted the insurance company of the person who hit me they informed me on 10/22 they were having no luck and maybe I needed an attorney to contact the insurance company. I had to continually call until I reached higher up the food chain in ameriprise until something was done."

"I think for my claim which was a very easy one that they seemed a bit slow. It took them one week to authorize the repair which was then completed the same day by the body shop."

"Not only are the agents severely INCOMPETENT, rude, and without tact, they also never respond to any phone calls or e-mails. I nearly lost my house because they cancelled my policy without letting me know and my mortgage company almost stopped my loan! What kind of company leaves a valuable customer of 7 years high and dry without any warning. I will never deal with the company again!"

"I rank this company high in servicing my auto policy and in my recent episode being rear-ended. Compared to State Farm, which I had for over 2 decades, this company has been great to work with and much more efficient and responsive."

"Purchased a new condo and insured it with Ameriprise. Were unfortunate enough to have a casualty prior to moving in, but after we had closed and paid our premiums. Ameriprise denied our claim even though the units above and below us had identical damage and their insurance companies covered their damages. Stay away from this company. I understand that we had not paid a lot of premium since we were new home owners, but that should not matter. Our policy was active so we deserved to have our loss covered."

"They start u out at a good rate but do not have an accident that is over $1000.00. They take your good driver discount away which you expect and is explained to u in advance. What they do not tell u is that they will hit u with a 55% (sur charge) increase for at least the next 3 years. If you have a minor accident over 1 grand they will pay out but they will make sure they get it back and more. This may not be true in all states but is true in Ca. They will refer you to the deal that Ca. made with the insurance companys woth prop 103. They will not tell you about it until you make a claim because they stand to make more in premiums as soon as u make a claim. Ask all companies about a sur charge in ca. before u sign with them. "

"Cant say how the co. is on the wrong end of things. But, I can say they were cheapest thing going. They were cheaper than AAA (and not by a little. By a lot. Almost half) and I had increased coverage, to 250k in liability; compared to the basic 30/60/30 with AAA. And, for the record, AAA was 1/2 what farmers was for 30/60/30. "

"Car was damaged (totaled) in a salt water flood / tidal surge -- undercarriage completely rusted out with over $45K in damages. They refused to accept the claim. Ended up having to bring suit against the company. Ameriprise contended that they do not cover "chemical reactions" from salt water intrusion, though this exclusion is nowhere in the policy. They settled, and to their credit, provided a fair amount for replacement. Still, was without a car for 5 months while this worked its way to resolution. Very stressful. And required a lawyer. "

"The premiums are very cheap, but not worth it. We have a claim pending now and we are having a hard time getting our car fixed. It has been in the shop for almost 5 weeks!!!!!"

"Their affairs seem shoddy, I added a friend to my policy and was told my premium increased marginally. Then I get a survey in the mail, I fill it up and my premium jumps. I call them and figure out that I made an error, I offered to correct it, they say if I provide proof, I would be given credit from day one. I submit the proof and I only get a partial refund and then two people try and convince me that I was not informed correctly. They spend time with me on the phone for the longest time and at the end the same answer. God forbid if I had to submit a claim, what would they have done with me. I am never going back to them even if I pay higher outside since no fun in having an insurance company which doesn't really know what they are doing."

"I called the company for guidance after mother nature struck the area and ended up having several claims in my file. We repaired the damage and did not submit any claim at all, however, we are still seeing active claim status in our file at Choice Point even if the claims were zero-amount. And now when I shop for another insurance, my quote was usually higher because of the claims. Yes, even a zero-amount claim is considered an eyesore. I have spoken with the homeowner claim supervisor hoping that they could present a more neutral data, but the supervisor replied "a loss did occur whether or not payment was issued". Go figure."

"I've had two claims now. One was for an auto glass claim and the other was around a $2,000 front end claim. The auto glass claim required zero paperwork and they paid Acura to come out and replace the glass the next day. The second claim involved one quote from a repair shop I selected and they worked out all the details and had it back to me within a week. Our rates haven't gone up as a result, and the price remains competitive."

"We had a fire in our home due to our dryer malfunctioning while no one was at home. Ameriprise was WONDERFUL to us! They were prompt and professional. They called us within 30 minutes of being notified by the Fire Dept. and had a place for our family to stay within an hour. They were completely compassionate and handled our claim very well. I would recommend this company to anyone, and now most of our family have switeched their auto and home coverages to Ameriprise after seeing how our family was treated during our difficult time. "

"I was hit by a man being chased by the police. After the accident he got out of the car and fled on foot, never to be caught. My car was totaled and my wife and I both sustained minor injuries. Ameriprise was quick to replace my vehicle (I only carried liability and uninsured motorist) they also promptly took care of the medical bills and closed the case with a generous pay out from the uninsured motorist for pain and suffering. I would definitely recommend if one is looking for a company they can rely on in a time of need. "

"We have had our car and home insured with Ameriprise for over 19 years. In the last 2 years we have had 3 claims...none in any of the years before that. Two of the claims were from hail damage and lightning. The lightnening stike destoryed most of our electronic equipment in our house and they gave us less than $1,000. In July our dog bit a girl that ran through our yard. The girl was on our property, which is posted, and our dog was on our property. They are cancelling our homeowners policy on our renewal date. They don't mind taking our money for 19 years, but when they have to pay a couple of claims they cancel us. They said they will keep our car ins....I don't think so....not a chance! Don't put your money and trust in this company!"

"Our city had 80 mph winds from Ike and they sent out a professional and reputable restoration company that stated we had severe roof damage to over 85% of our roof. When their adjustor came out two weeks later he said that our damage was less than $500. His English language capacity was limited and I'm sure his knowledge of roofs was as well. Our claim was denied. I'm not done with them yet. The power of the internet will prevail."

"someone did a left turn in front of our vehicle. the resulting damaget o our car is over $5,oooo. Ameriprise wants to blame us for a contributory of 10% even though Washington law says that their insured is 100% at flaut.. their investigators are the biggest bunch of jurks.. Don't buy Ameriprise you get what you pay for. bad service.. you will be in court long before amiaprise settle the claims.. Costco Shame on you for offering such a bad product."

"The good thing about Ameriprise (I got the policy through Costco) is the low price. I save a thousand dollars a year over AAA and Allstate on their auto policy. The homeowners’ premium was actually a little higher than Allstate, but the overall savings combining the two policies made up the different. I have had to file claims with both auto and home departments of Ameriprise. I lost many things in my home due to a lighting strike (power surge) near my home Ameriprise took care of it quickly and fairly. I was very happy with that. I had a car stolen and filed a claim with Ameriprise Auto. The first 30 days they paid me $14 a day for car rental. After 30 days, they told me that they were not dome investigating my case but that they would not continue to pay for my car rental. Had I known that was the case I would have bought a car right away instead of renting because I have paid $1000 in rental fees by the time they settled my claim. Most of the top insurance companies will pay off after 30 days, but not Ameriprise. They told me that they did not have to pay until the investigation was done and if that took a year so be it. I would have switched to another company but their premiums was so low compared to everyone else I decided to stay. Service on auto is not great but the price is."

"I filed a hail damage claim with them. They sent out some company to access the damage. The individuals were incompetent and tried to deny my claim of hail damage. It was apparent my house had hail damage on the roof as the roof leaked. My van suffered over $4k in hail damage alone while outside. They would not replace my roof which leaked from the hail damage. They incompetent individuals even tracked in dirt on my carpet !!!"

"Ameriprise made an unauthorized charge to my American Express card (they used to just charge the premium automatically at every renewal period) even after I terminted my insurance for almost 3 years. It has caused my American Express acct to go to collections because I was unaware of the charge. Do not use Ameriprise. Extremely unprofessional."

"Report a windshield claim on my 2007 BMW 750. I was told by two glass companies that they did not want to repair the windshield because of the liability and the other said because of the material they would be need he didn't have. I told them that I'd like to get it replaced by the dealer after hearing what both of their recommended shops said. They told me that I'd have to pay first and wait to see if I was reimbursed anything. Piss on them, I canceled my policy today and returned back to ESURANCE. I only left because of Ameriprise low price."

"DO NOT use them just because their low premium. You'll feel sorry when you file your first claim. My real life experience, they were unwilling and incompetent to act on my behalf when I was victim of a non-fault accidnent. Because I paid the repair cost in advance and they were supposed to help me get refund from the other party's insurer. But I guess it's not their money so that just let me waited for a few month and then came back telling me there's nothing they can do to help me. Also there's only 1800 number and always answering machine when you call. I had enough of their "service". I wish Costco get enough complaints to part with Ameiprise soon. "

"For years I was with American Family until we moved to GA and they don't offer coverage. We went with Ameriprise because of the low rates. I haven't had to file an insurance claim for over 15 years and had a spotless record until now. 1 month agow we filed a claim under our homeowners policy for roof damage. Ameriprise had everything settled and payment made within 72 hours. Yesterday, I got into an accident and now have to file a claim on that... Although we are still in the process, they have been fast, responsive and polite. I know I am looking at major rate increases come renewal time and my previously perfect recored is shot but I have to say, Ameriprise has been great so far. I will stay with them as long as things go smoothly and the increases aren't offensive. "

"I have a condo policy with Ameriprise which used to be covered by IDS, but changed recently to Ameriprise. My bedroom ceiling caved in due to a plumbing failure in a roof drain. There was extensive water damage. Ameriprise claims adjustor notified me 4 days after the incident that my condo policy did not cover the interior damage since it was not one of the 17 named perils in the policy. Meanwhile, I had brought in a disaster cleanup company, which was recommended by Ameriprise to dry out the bedroom and we stayed up all night to bail out water. Ameriprise told me that they will not cover the drying out costs since it's not covered under policy; they said they only recommended that we contact the disaster cleanup company, and it was not under "the insurance company's instruction". I asked Ameriprise what it would have taken to cover this cost, and they said they don't even offer any such coverage. My condo property management company is saying they won't cover any interior damage because that's the condo owner's responsibility. Ameriprise should have notified us as soon as we filed the claim what was covered and what wasn't."

"I found out AFTER this company issued me a policy that they raised my rates based on "negatives" in my credit report. My credit score is around 760; I have 32 accounts, all paid monthly for decades, not years and all open to charge. But they said I had "too many accounts." What sort of reason is paying all your bills for an increased risk charge? (Note I have had one claim with them; it was for a stone chip in my windshield; something I reported to save the company money.)"

"I had an auto policy with Ameriprise for 6 years. During that time I had an accident that was not my fault. They were very quick to send me a check and go after the other party. Support was very good though the whole experience. Interestingly I switched to Ameriprise after a similar accident 6 years prior when I was hit by a city bus and my insurance company at the time (American Insurance) left me high and dry even though it was not my fault. I left Ameriprise only because I moved to Phoenix, AZ (where auto insurance rates are very high) and their rates were much higher than GEICO."

"Don't use them. they are unfair. Read the policy carefully their wording is tricky. for homeowners policy read the perils list they insure against, if its not on the list they won't cover it or your personal belongings. "

"I am not insured by Ameriprise, but I was hit by someone who unfortunately is insured by them. While everyone I spoke to is extremely polite and rather friendly, they're completely unable to get the simplest things done. I was instructed to direct bill a rental car, which I did. The rental company, Budget Rent a Car billed Ameriprise, only Ameriprise never bothered to pay the bill within 60 days, so now Budget has billed my credit card. Additionally, they offered a settlement for injuries, which we accepted, however, every time we call to let them know we accept, we get a voicemail. And despite, leaving multiple messages to let them know we accept, we still get calls back, days later each time, asking whether we accept or not. So as friendly as all their employees seem to be, it would help if they could actually do their job. "

"As a Costco Executive member you can't beat the price or the perks! My husbands truck broke down on a busy California highway on Labor day weekend. We used the free roadside assistance. They were wonderful! The customer service agent was extremely nice and made things happen fast. Free tow and assisted to find the best dealership to tow to. "

"I recently purchased auto insurance from Ameriprise through costco and had about the worst customer service experience. The issue was that when I paid for my insurance online, I elected to pay 5 payments because I was lead to believe there would not be any fees. Upon looking at my credit card statement, the charge was $4 more than what was supposed to be charged. When I called customer service, I was informed that there was a pop up that says there will be a convenience fee charge. I have a pop up blocker and I know many others do as well. No where else did it say that there will be a charge or that I should disable pop up blocking. I simply asked for a refund. I thought that it should be simple since it is only $4 and clearly their website is lacking. Instead, I got the run around, transferred to three different people, put on hold, told that they can't do anything about it. If they're willing to fight for 2 hours on the phone because they don't want to refund $4, I would hate to see what happens if I ever need to file a claim. I am very disappointed with this company. I expected more from a company that partnered with Costco."

"After having a rather large claim for an accident we anticipated our rates to go up. The rates actually went down. It has been over a year since the accident and the rates have still not been increased. I am extremely satisfied with this company."
