"If you have ever considered getting insurance from Farmers Insurance, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. What commodity does insurance deal in anyway? Trust... trust is the commodity of the insurance business, and Farmers Insurance can only be trusted to do one thing. Take your money with a smile, then cut and run when the chips are down. After 15 years of faithful payments to Farmers Insurance, my wife and I accidentally missed one payment and were left high and dry when we were involved in an auto accident. We immediately got current with our payment but were told we were out of luck. I can understand where they're coming from. It's big buisness and we were just another small fish. We continued using Farmers for our Insurance just long enough to research other companies. Then we sent a letter cancelation when the coverage date expired. Months later we recieved harassing calls and letters from International Association of Commercial Collectors Inc. telling us that we were delinquent for a payment in the amount of $30.17. When we contacted Farmers to ask them what these charges were for, they informed us that after our coverage expired, they had, out of the "goodness" of their hearts extended our services and were charging us for that extra service which we did not ask for and had previously asked to cancel. Funny that they didn't have such good intentions when we were in need (the accident totalled about $2,000.00). But now that we were no longer doing business with them, they decided to charge us for services we did not use nor did we ask for. It's kind of scary when you think about it. They can arbitrarily give you services that you don't ask for, and if you get into an accident they're not involved, but if you aren't, they write up whatever amount they want and stick it to you. Farmers Insurance... You can kiss my @$$."

"agent did not turn in policy protection increase and address change to underwritters, but cashed my check and sent me a declaration of insurance...now...after business suffered 80% loss due to water damage from frozen water pipes, insurance company will not honor policy."

"Farmers Insurance Group has always treated me fairly. I have been with USAA, Allstate, State Farm, and now Farmers. After several months of research I have found out one thing that is true of all insurance co. Its not the company but the agent that makes a differance. USAA does not offer a personal agent so I would never go back with them. Allstate has tied the hand of there agents so they are of no use anymore. The only companies I would do business with is Farmers and State Farm. But when selecting either one of these companies I look at the agent. He is getting paid to take care of you. During a loss, your agent can go the extra mile and get more than you think done. There are lazy agents with Farmers and State Farm but if you get a good agent 99% of the problems people have with any insurance co. will be gone. A good agent is hard to fine but when you get one stick with him or her. Granted, some years you may be paying a little more for your insurance but in the event of a claim, a good agent is worth every penny. "

"In a claim, was changed from one person to another, to another. Settled claim without contacting us. Cost us money, plus a lot of time, out of pocket - without being at fault"

"Rates $1200.00 a year higher than other companies. I guess they don't care about customer longevity and loyalty. I am switching to AAA"

"I was the victim in a car accident. Since one of the drivers was underinsured and the other driver has not yet been assessed a percentage of blame, my underinsured/uninsured coverage is paying and will reclaim their costs from the other insurance companies. The only part of my insurance that has been working so far is the PIP part. The other problems are: they are using their "special adjustment program (Colossus)" to calculate the value of my truck - their most recent offer is about half what it will cost to replace the truck and they are giving little consideration to the custom bed we had made in Oklahoma and drove down to have it installed. I told the adjuster if he sent the check, I would send it back. They have now hired an "independent" appraiser. We'll see how "independent" he is. In Washington State we are allowed to hire an independent appraiser, too, at our expense of course. The next problem was they weren't going to cover the loss of the personal items that were in the truck or in the two toolbox compartments on each side of the flatbed. My agent said it was "just your loss". It turned out after talking to the PIP department adjuster (the one helpful person) that the personal property should be covered by my homeowners policy (also with Farmers). So far we are looking at two $500 deductables - one for the auto, one for the personal property. The final blow was I had borrowed a flatbed equipment trailer to haul the six 1,000 lbs bales of hay I had just bought and was hauling home at the time of the accident. They informed me that since the trailer was not owned by me or a family member the policy had a $500 limit for the loss. The trailer's value is $8,000 and they will pay the owner $500 for the "utility" trailer and out of the goodness of their heart they did pay the towing bill on the trailer - from the accident scene to the wrecking yard and then to the owners property - which was almost $1,200. I have two horse trailer endorsements that I pay year round and a farm endorsement. I would never have thought I wouldn't be covered for the trailer. My agent told me that I had to look at it from their point of view. I borrowed the trailer and didn't tell them and I wasn't paying a premium on it. I told her to look at my point of view. I insured two trailers and only used one of them four times last year, yet I paid premiums year round. This whole situation is not over since the wreck occurred the middle of March. One other bit of information. The adjuster told me that they would put a claim in against the other insurance (or both if the other guy is assigned fault) and if they got more than they paid me I would get the difference. I wonder who does the accounting on that one. This was a tragic wreck two people died and the remaining driver had serious injuries. He is still not home yet. Dealing with Farmers has had a negative effect on my health. I already had high blood pressure that was controlled and stable for the last several years. My doctor has over doubled the amount of blood pressure medication to try to keep it down. I did tell the adjuster that just being fair with the truck and trailer would still be a lot cheaper for them than if I had died in the wreck. If the truck wouldn't have been an F350 with that steel customized bed, it is most likely that I would have also been a fatality when that motorhome hit me."

"Three houses on our block needed a new roof last year due to hail. The other 2 houses got some compensation toward their roof. Farmers spent $4500 flying an engineer up from another city to say our roof problem was not caused by hail and they reimbursed us nothing. When we talked to the agent he said the records showed we cost them $4500, but on investigating, he found out that money did not go to us. It is how much money Farmers spent to keep from paying us anything. That was our first claim in the 9 years we had our homeowners insurance with them and they went out of their way to keep from paying us one cent. We will never carry insurance with them again. "

"we had a total loss on our astro van farmers tryed to screw us at every turn - low value lying claims handlers - they jump into the policy appraisal clause rite away, wanting to sent out as indepentant appraiser we drooped farmers after 35 years of paying a premium and only a few claims - farmers is one of the worst companies out there they need to rate themselves as second class "
2007-05-16 20:34:17 EST

"Farmers has a problem with the payment plans, that no one seems to understand including the Agent. I get so many bills per policy that I can't tell how much money I'm paying and the premiums keep changing. No one can explain, now my agent has quit."
2007-06-01 13:25:54 EST

"great service, great agents, best service, very good muti-policy discounts and their home rates are unbeatable!!! I will never switch, my agent saved me over 500 dollars on my home insurance with better coverages!"
2007-11-14 15:03:02 EST

"We have been Farmer's clients for over 20 years. Earlier this year we had water damage due to a leak in our roof caused by a blown-off shingle. The repairs came to less than $2000.00. Our policy just went up 35%! 20+ years without a SINGLE claim and we're penalized $500.00 a year for 3 years. Plus, our agent is not very helpful and has the personality of a rock. I am currently getting quotes from other insurers. I've had enough. "
2007-06-05 17:41:49 EST

"I HAVE WAIVER OF DEDUCTABLE AND WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT NOT MY FAULT (POLICE) INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY THE $2500 DEDUCTABLE BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVER WAS UNDERINSURED. SHIFTING MORE THAN 1O VEHICLES AND HOMES TO ANOTHER CARRIER."
2007-06-27 12:55:50 EST

"I HAD A SEWER LINE THAT WAS IN MY YARD BREAK AND HE INSURANCE AGENT REFUSED TO EVEN COME OUT AND LOOK AT IT. HE STATED HE WOULDNT WASTE HIS TIME. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE HAD TO REPLACE 10 FEET OF SEWER LINE ON OUR OWN PROPERTY BECAUSE THE HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE BITES THE BIG ONE AND THEN AFTER THE CLAIM WAS DENIED MY INSURANCE RATE WENT UP.....CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!!!"
2007-06-27 22:41:13 EST

"I had my car stolen and that same day they had me in a rental and when my car was recovered everthing went smoothly from the adjuster to the clain to my car being repaired!"
2007-06-29 00:45:45 EST

"My agent was very nice until I had a claim. My house had a flood and he sent this adjuster who was very rude. He called and said right off the bat that he could not get out there for two weeks and that I could not clean anything up until he saw the mess. I obeyed and had to stay at a hotel because our kitchen and bedrooms were soaked. He told me that I had coverage for hotels and meals until he came out. He then told me that I should have cleaned up the house right after the flood and if I had, I would not have had the bills for the hotel and meals to begin with. By this time, there was a great deal of mold which he told me Farmers does not cover. I told him that the only reason there was mold and that I had to stay at a hotel was that he told me not to clean anything. He smirked and said that if I cleaned up the water when it happened then he could not very well inspect the damages and I would be unable to prove my claim but I still had a responsibility to clean it up imediately. I called his manager who promptly informed me that his adjuster was required to be out there within 1 day and so that it was not possible that he stalled for 2 weeks and that any delay was my fault. I explained that I had had the discussion with the adjuster at my agents office on the speaker phone and that the whole office heard the adjuster say that he could not get out there in one week. He said he would check into it. All of the sudden my agent and his staff started swearing that I was never even in their office. I used the contractor they recomended and his bill was 37,000.00 dollars!!! They offered me 5,600.00!!! and told me that they don't cover mold or hotels because I had delayed the claim. I hired an attorney, who states that he specializes in Farmers because they are the worst company in the country, who used a private investigator to find witnesses who saw me in the agents office and was able to get the contractor to admit that the adjuster had told him that he could not see my house for two weeks. We sued, Farmers tried to settle out of court and we refused, and I won the entire 37,000.00 and the Judge was so pissed off that he awarded me an additional 100,000.00!!! He stated that he had never seen such blatant fraud and actually ordered the Department of Insurance and the DA to look into Farmers. After the suit, the adjuster and agent began to call my house and make death threats. We had to get the police to trace the calls and figure out who it was. I have learned that the agent or adjuster has posted my name, birth date, and social on the web. I now have another mess trying to get this figured out. If you have Farmers, you are in trouble!!! "
2007-07-18 23:50:05 EST

"I feel bullied by Farmers - they did a drive by and demanded I replace my old shake roof within 30 days - I had already contacted to have it replaced a couple weeks after their deadline, but asked the roofer to do it earlier which they did -- however, there was an unexpected rain storm and the exposed roof leaked onto computer equipment. I filed a claim, but canceled the claim as the computer did work after it dried out. My premium went up due to the fact a claim was filed - even though Farmers never paid a dime and the claim was pulled. That's ridiculous! "
2007-08-02 12:50:28 EST

"delayed payment of claim Didn't pay the "fair market" value allowed in the policy"
2007-08-02 22:38:10 EST

"Low balled everything, mislead me when I made the initial claim. Hard to reach contacts, no help from agent."
2008-01-10 15:13:54 EST

"Tried to get my front windshield fixed - what a joke. Tried changing my address online and after I filled everything out I had to call my agent anyway. What a waste of my time. Think I'll try Amica."
2007-07-29 17:04:46 EST

"I just don't trust my agent. The rates change on me for no reason. When I ask her to clarify she blames the billing company. I have been wondering if she is stealing this money from me or it's actually a mistake. If I didn't constantly check my rates and how they change I wouldn't notice that every other month or so it goes up by 10 to $20. Once I talk to her about it, it goes back down. HUH? fishy to me!"
2007-07-30 03:02:08 EST

"I HAVE BEEN WITH FARMERS FOR OVER 10 YEARS! THE AGENTS ARE REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL."
2007-08-09 16:49:52 EST

"Seems to increase premiums despite absence of claims."
2007-08-16 15:42:43 EST

"Company good...agent not so good. Agent raised our deductibles each time we purchased a new car and because we trusted him we just assumed it was due to the increase in value in car. Once we realized what he had been doing he had made an additional $4,000.00 over 5 years. Check every bill and do not pay any bills from Farmers until you understand every dollar they are charging you and what it is for. Unless you have an extra $4,000.00 you don't mind parting with. "
2007-08-19 21:58:47 EST

"Very good agent. Was treated extremely wellon the 2 claims I have had."
2007-08-21 17:00:44 EST

"In my experience having a strong company is a must and Farmers Insurance is that. But the best thing about Farmers Insurance is my agent Len Stone. He comes to my house when so I don't have to get the kids in the car, he explains things to me in a way I can understand, and he always resolves my issues quickly and painlessly."
2007-08-30 19:11:22 EST

"Don't buy a new car they will not put new parts on it if it is damaged they told me to look at my policy as they do not have too. They will put used parts on a car with 2000 miles on it still with the paper tag!!! They are the cheapest insurance company around they skimp on the repairs to save money. Ask the body shops they recommend, they will tell you that they try to fix the cars as cheaply as possible not the correct way. They want you to put redone bumpers on that have already been in a accident and then been repaired and then put on your car, instead of putting a new part on or they will put aftermarket parts on your car. All the body shops I called hate Farmers because they are trying to compromise the repairs to save a few dollars. You will be making a mistake if you insure your car with them they will not help you out they are only concerned about making money for themselves they talk a good talk but they don't walk a good walk. Call State Farm they are great I called and asked them what they put on a car and they put new parts on a new car, that is what you have a new car!!!!!!"
2007-08-31 23:23:55 EST

"Very profesional, and quickly tackling issues."
2007-09-04 20:17:03 EST

"Farmers insurance has implemented claims handling with "helppoint" which in reality is helpless point or hell-point as they hire ignorant people who have no idea how to handle a claim, they ask questions that have no bearing on what you need to do. They need to go back to the old days where you call your agent and talk to someone who has knowledge instead of cheap incompentent labor who are not a asset to this company. But I guess the CEO has know idea how inferior his company has become they are worse than Progressive and they where the worst but Farmers has now surpassed the worst of the worst. The only thing this company is worried about is money not you your auto or house or life insurance. They work at cutting the costs to your auto and house they put inferior parts on your car and pay the least amount to your contractors so they will not put quality work out, I have talked to home contractors who refuse to work for Farmers claims as they will not pay for the work and expect unreasonable time spans. Do not make the mistake to insure with them as they will not put you back where you belong they will screw you as much as they can so they can put more money in their pockets."
2007-09-03 20:03:32 EST

"Farmers billing very hard to understand. I have found when you call the company it's hard to find someone who speaks english clearly"
2007-09-20 08:31:46 EST

"First they get you on board by barely bating their competitor then immediately jack you up and hope you're too lazy to switch back. Eager to total my car even though was in perfect driving condition. Offered to pay for the balance to fix the car, no couldn't do. Offered to buy back the car after totaling it, no couoldn't do, correction they would but for a handful of change. This insurance is definetly in for themselves and nobody else. Look elsewhere, there's got to be something better. "
2007-09-24 22:57:24 EST

"The worst service ever. Trying to get answers to questions is like pulling teeth. Requests for information, other issues go answered. One needs to call several times regarding the same issues... enough! We are moving on to another company. "
2007-10-05 21:38:47 EST

"Farmers billing practices were horrible, long turn around on simple questions.I feel very fortunate I didn't have to make a claim."
2007-10-08 01:03:05 EST

"All Insurance companies are the same, it all comes down to your agent. I am lucky enough to have a fantastic agent, which is why I don't shop around for other Insurance. Unfortunetely, they don't cover all of my off-raod vehicles."
2007-10-08 19:58:48 EST

"My agent is no help. Farmer's is happy to take our premiums but, when we had to file a claim, we had to fight to get paid. "
2007-10-10 18:52:07 EST

"I am one of the Angora Fire Victims. Every year I would contact my agent to make sure I had sufficient insurance on my 4 year old home. Every year I was told yes. My insurance was renewed only 5 months prior to the fire. Come to find out I was under insured by about 1/2 was were the other 25 people who had farmers that lost their homes. It is a pattern. Everyone needs to make sure that they understand what rebuilding cost in your area are so that you correct coverage. Farmers has made an extremely difficult situation more difficult. Do not believe that their ads. One last word, your agent is the person that you get your policy thru but they can not do anything to help settle your claim. "
2007-10-24 09:57:32 EST

"I have been a happy Farmers customer for over 10 years. Most of the complaints I have read on this particular website are claims that would not be covered anywhere and the average consumer has no knowledge of what is covered under a policy and assume the term "full coverage" means any and everything is covered. At the end of the day, agents and agencies define your experience. My agent in Arizona, Kevin Shelton, has always taken great care of me and was the first agent who ever explained liability coverage in an easy manner."
2007-11-07 00:22:56 EST

"This company scams people out of money. And provides no valuable service!!!!"
2007-11-07 18:02:19 EST

" Agent called after 11 months to tell us about repairs that needed to be made. He called two days before the deadline. Thank goodness I had already made the major repairs. Then the agent had the nerve to tell my wife we were the ones who were shady because we did not agree to overinsure the property!"
2007-11-07 18:11:36 EST

"What a bunch of morons!"
2007-11-07 18:42:03 EST

"I was very satisfied until this past week.Receive my 6 month renewal and ..my rates almost doubled...no accidents, no tickets, no claims, good insurance credit score..Only thing I was told was could be where I live...We have lived in the same placed for 9 years, and at times the rates went down not up..May get insurance through Costco..much lower."
2007-12-07 16:35:37 EST

"Get rid of the billing and maybe it would be even better."
2007-12-11 13:11:15 EST

"Our agent of 10 years was great at the beginning to build the trust and convince us that she's the right person to take care of our needs. And then she stopped being involved. Only time we hear from her or her office is to sell us more services. Never was there situations where we would review our current policies to see if they still match our lifestyle or stage in life. Not to mention Farmer's rates are more expensive in our area that the majority of other's we've looked at recently. We've told them we're looking elsewhere to cover our 2 cars and 2 homes, and now they constantly contact us to try to keep us as customers. They put a lot of pressure, guilt tactics, etc about how you shouldn't trust other agencies, how we have years of relationship (not that we really talked). I would expect that most agencies and agents operate in the same manner, so it's a matter of comparison shopping for the best rate and the best coverages"
2007-12-12 22:40:15 EST

"The dissasifaction is in dispute with the department of insurance. The company under valued the home to reconstruct, did not adhere to their own policy and provided poor service in processing the claim."
2007-12-25 21:17:34 EST

"I was involved in an automobile accident. When it came time to settle, the money simply wasn't right neither did the claims worker give me any specifics as how things are done as well as details to the amount of money I should (properly) be given. I really believed the company shortchanged me...correction, the company did shortchange me!"
2007-12-14 18:38:03 EST

"We live in Texas, and had a near-head accident with our Chevy Tahoe in Louisiana. Both my husband & myself have sustained injuries. Our agent is such a bonehead that his office staff told our attorney that we only had liability on our Tahoe, nothing else. WRONG!!! We had 100/500/100, including towing, personal injury, rental, etc. We ended up going to the agent's office to find out what was going wrong, and found out that we did have the correct insurance. We got the information that we needed from a (new) receptionist (they seem to change office staff about every 3 months). Not to mention that our agent is now never around to talk to us. Now, our adjuster is low-balling the value of our Tahoe. This accident was clearly not our fault (the other driver came into our lane), and I feel like I'm being persecuted! We will be taking our insurance elsewhere once our policy expires."
2007-12-24 17:41:49 EST

"I asked a question about my bill, and my agent said he does go over the billing with his clients cause it's too confusing for most. I think that is the agent who is too confused. After two months of getting no answer from my agent and promises that he told me did not materialized. The agency told me that there is nothing they could do and that I could file a complaint if I wanted to. I called the helppoint number and I called the area manager. The manager was much better in explaining the fees than the agent was. Two bad, though, I cancelled anyway cause the agent was either overworked or incompetent. Luckily I did not have a claim. Just a warning, the billing EZ pay is not EZ. As a consumer, I want to know what all those fees tacked on to my account is for. Stay away from this comnpany!!!!"
2007-12-23 11:51:48 EST

"Filed a theft claim with Farmers insurance. My home was broken into. I did everything that any reasonable person would do in the same situation - filed a police report. Despite having photographs of the items taken, receipts and serial numbers, boxes that some of the contents came with, it still took Farmers over five months to issue a payment for the damage to my house and for the contents. They stalled and delayed. They even submitted me to a "examination under oath" by one of their attorneys. After I answered the attorney's questions, the attorney recommended that they pay the claim. Watch out for this company. If you have a theft, you will most likely have to come up with the funds out of pocket until you can meet with their attorney who will then recommend they pay the claim."
2007-12-27 19:24:26 EST

"After not at fault accident, they doubled the premium."
2007-12-30 23:05:04 EST

"Farmers has treated me wonderfully! Great friendly staff and wonderful, helpful, claim services! Thank you FARMERS!!!"
2008-01-11 16:40:03 EST

"Farmers can't keep the policy's information intact from last to current renewal. Constantly losing discounts and have to call to get them back. Long time customer, but this has been happening at least last 5 years now. Tired of messing with it. Plus premiums took 80% jump for no reason. Clean record, no accidents, no claims, no tickets. "
2008-01-23 14:52:55 EST

"Rates goes up every 6 months for no valid reasons."
2008-01-29 14:49:42 EST

"Premiums have gone up as we have gotten older and drive less. Slow to pay for hail damage in the past and refused to pay for property damage from storms."
2008-01-31 10:15:25 EST

"Agent used strong arm tactics to get me to change from policy I have had for 23 years to the new generation policy written after the hurricanes."
2008-02-02 11:19:43 EST

"Speeding truck hit my car in a parking lot but Farmers said I was at fault, although I am positive it was NOT my fault. Because my car was far more damaged, they didnt want to pay, so now, they are saying I have to pay for the trucks damages, even though it was not looking at where it was going and hit me. I greatly dislike Farmers Insurance."
2008-02-04 20:50:22 EST

"Claims Representatives would not return my calls, and would not get back to me with answers to my questions. They sent me the incorrect documents for settling the claim 3 times!(once they were blank!) When The correct papers were mailed to me, I finally signed and returned the release and they mailed my check out with the incorrect ammount! (off by over $500) When I requested to speak to my agent, she was mysteriously "unavailable" for weeks and no one else would discuss my claim with me. This was a simple claim that took almost a year to clear up and I did more work and made more phone calls than Farmer's Insurance. I should have recieved a paycheck for all of the time and effort I had to put into this whole mess! Never again Farmers!"
2008-02-11 16:44:55 EST

"i finally faced the fact that i'm a grown-up and got some renters' insurance. it was a few years back and i went online to scout the options and farmers was the only one to follow up and contact me back. so for the past few years i've been paying $35-40 a month for renters' insurance and another $250 a year for earthquake insurance. then i moved. just four blocks east but i moved in september. i sent 5 different emails to my agent asking him to change my address. finally, when i was still getting mail forwarded to me, he told me to go online and do it myself. i tried. but since they had my address so screwed up, i couldn't get the account number to match any conceivable zip code and i couldn't do it online. in feb., when i didn't get a bill at all, i called them and tried to get it straightened out again and paid over the phone. and today i get a past-due bill with warning of cancellation of my policy and a late fee. i call them up again, and after waiting on hold forever, they take all my info again and then come back and tell me they won't drop the $11 late fee. (even credit card companies will drop a late charge if you ask nicely) the nice lady admits that it was their mistake but she still can't do anything about it. can you imagine what would happen if i tried to get money from them? this is all about me trying to give them my money! what if i actually had to file a claim? i went through costco's website and ameriprise will do the same coverage (actually a little more coverage) for about $150 less a year. and tomorrow i'll get a quote through my savings and loan."
2008-02-21 18:31:18 EST

"too much insurance speak in the policy, "Yes, we cover this and that: except for the following exclusions... A) this B) that"
2008-03-03 23:27:57 EST

"they would not pay the glass company I had do my windshield installation and I was left with the bill......"

"We canceled our policy with our previous company because they were going to save us money and increase our coverage. after a few seeks we were notified that our actual rate would be more than double what they promised us."
2008-03-08 06:01:31 EST

"Very unfair when determining value of a total loss vehicle. Opening offer was literally half what it is worth in reality, ended up settling for around 25% less than value of car, not to mention all the miscelenneous costs involved with replacing a vehicle. They offered far less than any other comparable insurance company would for pain and discomfort (a whopping $225 for a totalled, very violent collision, neck strain, chest pain, cuts, bruises) This company must be on the ropes financially to be so poor at settling claims. I checked their rating and they are far less stable than other companies. I'm shopping now for another company."

" I had an accident rear ended someone on the off ramp, while going less than 1-5mph. The person who was involved got a x-ray done a normal caution check. Turns out farmer charge me for a fault with BODILY INJURIES :( ...now it stays on my record as such and rates quoting me as $2200 a year. "
2008-03-24 16:14:35 EST

"My son was in a serious car accident. We hired and attorney. The person at fault was also insured with Farmers. Farmers cheated us out of our property settlement. Only giving us pennies on the dollar for our wrecked vehicle, which was a show truck. When it came to personal injury settlement they just dragged it out as long as they could. I also filed a complaint with the Texas Board of Insurance. That did not help either. I will cancel my policy in July and never look back. This company should not be allowed to operate."
2008-03-28 03:35:41 EST

"I got tired of the discount game they play. There are thousands of discount available and yet when I compared to another highly rated company, not only the insurance was cheaper but there were no concept of complicated discount. My agent kept screwing up my payment and coverage of policy and coverage of policy. I must have made at least 30 calls in 8 months of period. Although Farmers sounded ok company and premium were reasonable, I just didn't want to change the agent and stay with the company after having a bad experience with my agent."
2008-03-28 21:34:43 EST

"Paid claim and doubled our premiums!"
2008-04-08 13:11:14 EST

"Make sure only you or your immediate family members cook in your home. My Fiance accidentally had a grease fire that burned our stove and caused smoke damage. They would pay for it but then come after him for the money. Since we are living together and our money is pooled, I would be paying for my own fire. I have been paying premiums to this company for over 10 years and that is the service I get. Oh by the way, my insurance jumped to over 800.00 year for a 77,000 house in Arkansas. Double what my 110,000 house was in MO. Check your rates in your state it makes a huge difference."
2008-04-09 09:49:16 EST

"Avoid Farmers Insurance to avoid a major headache. In the event of an accident (that is in no way your fault) do not expect adequate customer service or a fair settlement. Expect to have to fight for months with no acceptible resolution or help from anyone, your claims officer, agent or their bosse). Don't expect them to have the correct information on your car, expect them to leave out expensive details on the build sheet included with your car (iv'e experienced this up to $3000!). My experience with them has been absolutly terrible and I can't imagine dealing with them again."
2008-04-19 11:27:30 EST

"THE RATES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY COMPETITIVE OVER THE 30 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN WITH FARMERS WE HAVE HAD TWO HOMEOWNER CLAIMS AND TWO AUTO CLAIMS. HANDLED VERY WELL."
2008-04-19 17:51:30 EST

"Farmer's did technically do "everything" they promised, but the settlement we received was substantially lower than the value of the vehicle that was lost. Our Farmer's agent was somewhat helpful, but unable to do much for us past the initial claim. So I suppose my dissatisfaction lies with the total loss department and the appraisers of the company."
2008-04-23 01:24:36 EST

"Prompt and courteous service"
2008-04-24 16:16:39 EST

"dropped my car insurance because of 3 small claims involving the hatch on my truck. And dropped my home insurance because it is vacant."
2008-04-26 22:10:07 EST

"They cannot be trusted. They make up the rules as they go along and it is impossible for them to tell the truth. They pay these people to keep from paying you what you are owed for your loss. Shop around and stay far away from Farmers."
2008-04-30 20:11:34 EST

"run away. don't look back."
2008-05-03 10:46:48 EST

"While all other insurance company lower price every year for their customers automatically, they raise the price automatically even I never have accident. "
2008-05-03 13:30:02 EST

"This is the worst insurance ever.. Farmer's really dissappointed me. It's like you paying for more hassle and trouble."
2008-05-03 13:41:19 EST

"I switched to another car insurance company that charged me $40 dollars less a month with better coverage. After cancelling my policy with Farmers they continued to send me an erroneous bill and then reported me to a collection agency. Horrible customer service from my agent and his superiors."
2008-05-13 15:52:35 EST

"We have 2 homes and 4 vehicles and in 10 years have never filed a claim. Yet everytime I get a renewal I have to pull out the old policy and compare, and EVERY 6 months they try to sneak in an increase, the most recent one being a $50 increase on a 6 month policy. We have NEVER asked for or received a penny from Farmers, and yet they continue to screw me instead of working to keep their perfect customers."
2008-05-21 16:28:51 EST

"Great company, love the personal feel. Sometimes service outways price... with Farmers I get both!"
2008-05-21 21:57:11 EST

"Farmers is by far the worst Customer Service we have ever experienced. And their billing procedures are confusing to the point of...we're done!"
2008-05-22 13:40:17 EST

"Just realized that I am paying more than double premium on my car insurance for over 2 years."
2008-05-23 17:22:24 EST

"Farmers Insurance raised my rates 60 days after securing my business without even telling me. I found out after auditing my checking account which they were deducting from. When I told them I wanted to cancel, they continued making deductions....all this without even a claim. STAY AWAY!!!!!"
2008-05-27 16:59:29 EST

"Farmers has a good structure and is a sound company with varied products. As with any company it is only as good as the employee handling the issue at hand. I have had good experiences: 2 different auto claims settled with in a reasonable amount of time and with a good explaination of the benifit the policy provides. It was not necessarily what I wanted, or felt that I was owed, but in retrospect it was a solid fair settlement. Both claims representitives were timely and respectful. The billing system is crazy! Fortunately my agent is very helpful and assist my wife in sorting out all of the mis-billings. I have a small car collection and Farmers offerers very competitive rates for the autos that I have. Unfortunately at the 6 month premium billlings I usually have to sort thru several bills, credits and re bills. This is my only complaint. Farmers offers a standard policy at a reasonable price-not the cheapest, but does have a good net work to tkae care of claims when they happen."
2008-05-29 01:09:49 EST

"do not use Farmers"
2008-05-29 11:00:54 EST

"We've had several claims over the years, but I think the most important part is to have an agent that is knowledgeable, gives you options, and advocates on your behalf. Our agent is that. Farmers is a good company, but like any big company, things sometimes get messy. "
2008-05-30 12:33:57 EST

"I had bene with them for years. When there was an electric storm and my light switches were blown out they paid for the work to be done with no ploblem. When the roof had wind damage on the roof their adjuster they sent out said that it was from old age. I did not agree with them. They refused to pay for the claim. I left and went to Allstate."
2008-06-01 00:08:01 EST

"I was told that Farmers would be there when I needed them. What a joke! Hail storm rocked our neighborhood and every house that was not insured by farmers has a new roof. I guess the storm was selective of which houses to hit. Mine still needs a new roof and I need a new insurance company. BIG LIARS!"
2008-06-02 10:01:29 EST

"Rates seem to be goinging up. Recently had an new agent take over. Communication very poor and service level has decreased dramatically."
2008-06-12 22:41:59 EST

"Claim filed for issue with our dog. He had escaped our fenced yard and ran towards a neighbor walking her dog. She qubsequently fell and supposedly blew her knee out. We think pre-existing condition since would never provide medical history. My dog did not bite or attack the lady or her dog, let alone lick, sniff, or even touch either one of them. Farmer's ends up settling with this later for $135,000+. What a joke!!! "
2008-06-12 09:13:48 EST

"My agent never made my requested changes to my policy correctly. He lied about getting a rebate when my home owners ploicy increased. He never returned phone calls. When I cancelled 3 ploiceies, they did not refund the correct amount on one ploicy. Again the agent was no help. I tried dealing with the headquarters, again after speaking with a manager who said he would call me back...he never called. I called several times again to speak with the manager, he was never again available and never returned my calls. I am filing a complaint with the IL Dept. of Insurance. STAY AWAY FROM FARMERS"
2008-06-13 17:24:35 EST

"Extremely expenseive agent makes a lot of errors rates go up without explanation"
2008-06-19 16:50:36 EST

"I had very bad experience with the claim process. they try to find ways to wash their hand off in most cases. in my experience Case 1: with a hit and run where the other person was caught, in spite of no fault on my side they increase my premium Case 2: my fault and i am still struggling with the claim process Case 3: windshield crack occurred due to stones from highway truck, when enquired with diff insurance companies pay for fixing small cracks to avoid replacing the entire windshield but Farmers refused to do so, the said i could get the whole thing replace after paying deductible for the same "
2008-06-19 18:48:19 EST

"After 8 years with this company I had to file two claims. Only after I filed the claims did I find out that in addition to the deductable also deducted a percentage for age of flooring, the loss was for water damage. Plus a deduction for the total loss covered insured amount. Ended up with $5,000. of a $8500 loss. Then my boat got inundated with rainwater from a winter storm and the $4,000.00 claim was totally denied due to no payout for water accumulation clause. "
2008-06-21 11:58:23 EST

"Years ago my insurance agent came to look at my new home and I was moving all the small stuff because my friends hadn't shown up and my Insurance agent helped me move the things we could carry just the two of us."
2008-06-22 23:08:48 EST

"worst "
2008-06-30 16:13:57 EST

"I have had my homeowners insurance for 22 years. One of the riders is earthquake which you can no longer get. Since I live in Seattle I would stick with this insurance company because of the earthquake rider. My auto insurance just went up again and this time a $33 a month increase. It seems every time I turn around it is going up. I have not had any tickets or claims in over 8 years. I have had a Farmers policy since I was 18 or going on 35 years."
2008-07-02 12:31:43 EST

"I am a current underwriter for Farmers and reading these comments are ridiculous. We do not raise rates for not at fault claims. We do not raise rates if you have a home claim and have had 6 years with farmers with no claims. Insurance rates are going up, that's the way it is folks! So are gas prices. Yes, some agents are awful, and I have no experience with helppoint, but some of these claims of rate increases are absolutely false. I love working, and having Farmers Insurance."
2008-07-10 12:16:52 EST

"My insurance premiums increase every 6 months. When I called my agent to explain why the increase he says it due to insurance rates going up. Add'l $150 for 6 months, that's a lot for 2 autos?? That's steep! I don't have any speeding tickets, accidents or any type of tickets. Also, they threaten to raise my homeowner's insurance every 6 months if I don't show them proof that I have an alarm/fire system. It's also ridiculous to pay a service charge each month $6.00 when they EFT my checking for the payment. "
2008-07-03 13:39:15 EST

"Had a front to front collision pulling out onto a main street. Police without investigation automatically placed blame on us. Farmers touted "HelpPoint" phone number did nothing but add to the confusion at the accident site. Car was towed to a body shop and sat there several days. This accident was 1000 miles from home. After I pushed and hounded the adjuster's office for over a week they decided to total the vehicle. The value they placed on it was more than fare since it was comparable to the retail price on a similar used vehicle. In reading many of the comments on this site I have come to the conclusion that how Farmers treats its customers is directly to the agent, adjusters and the rest of the people involved. Farmers would do well to hold their people to higher standards. It appears that home owners live nightmares when making a claim from the stories I've read. Fortunately I have never had to make a claim. In my investigation I believe that folks who are extremely satisfied with the rates may be mis-leading themselves since it is service when needed that counts. "

"Have been a customer since 1947 and filed only a handfull of claims. Even been with the same family (agent) since that time. Began with father and now with son. Having paid premiums for 60 years I thought I would get better service regarding a claim last year. I was involved in a care accident that was not my fault. Rear ended by an undocumented immigrant. Damage to both front and rear of my 1995 Ford Taurus which had less than 50K miles. It cost a little over $5,000.00 to fix and Farmer's only gave me $2,000.00. The adjuster was rude and did not return my calls. All calls were logged incoming and outgoing with my caller ID. She called me a liar and told me if I did not like her service I could complain. Well I tried but to no avail, my agent, nor any supervisor would contact me regarding this matter. My agent told me that I did not get replacement value on my car because it was too old and he would not help me because, and this I do not understand, he worked for Farmers and not me so he could not help me recoup any more money. It would be taking money from his employer. After 60 years of premiums, and probably putting this kid through college, I could not believe he had the gall to treat me like that. Upon reciept of my next homeowners policy I was surprised to learn that I had carpet, 2 car garage, 1&1/2 bath, and many other aminities that I clearly do not have. Just another way to get more money out of a senior citizen living on a fixed income. You might ask why I do not change insurance companies...I live in a flood plain and have carried flood insurance for 60 years, if I leave I will not be able to get flood insurance anywhere else. I am not happy at all in fact my children cancelled their insurance policies with this company because of this incident."
2008-07-14 09:46:10 EST

"This company has absolutely no character at all. They do not care about you, just about paying as little as possible. They change facts as they see fit, not caring at all about the truth. This company can rot in h***."
2008-07-22 16:17:33 EST

"Farmers sucks!!"
2008-08-01 14:47:23 EST

"Their billing system is awful. They bill one month ahead so that it always feels like you're behind...they send cancellation notices every month!! I'm sick of it! "
2008-08-06 19:40:59 EST

"Claim was processed smoothly. But i would have like it better if they were more proactive in communicating and keeping me updated."
2008-08-08 15:07:11 EST

"This is the most unethical company I have ever come across."
2008-08-11 01:30:17 EST

"was rearended by car while sitting at red light. car's driver was uninsured. my insurance co. let me file an accident claim, then through someone else, discovered claim is covered through my uninsured/underinsured part of my policy, so I refiled the claim (lower deductible), was told they aren't going after the other driver, so I'll eat the deductible. Now we are trying to settle, they have offered no money and are trying to get me to sign over my rights to my health insurance company due to the subrogation claim they filed! We were not at fault in no way. To top it off, I also discovered on my own that I need to file a "dimininshed value" claim, which they also claimed ignorance about. "
2008-08-14 16:12:33 EST

"Like most other people said...choose a different company! Had insurence with them for years and the one time I had a car accident (my fault) they paid very poorly...lowest estimate I received was $3500 to fix my car(from 3 diff car shops) and they would not give me more than $1400. The adjuster insisted that they used some "formula" to calculate the "accurate" cost of the repair. Well their formulas need to be updated since we're not living in the 1980's anymore. "
2008-08-26 16:32:22 EST

"Filed a claim on home that was denied."
2008-09-06 15:44:51 EST

"The Jury is still out about Allstate.I've been with Allstate over 30 years and I still don't like their pricing and deductions."
2008-09-11 12:17:48 EST

"Farmers double billed me for coverage that was pre-paid ... I took hours and heated arguments to prove my side of the story with payment history ... the repeatedly told me I still owed them for what had already been paid ... their accounting/billing is the worst! And then when I purposely let another homeowners policy end without renewing, they tried to charge me for a policy extension that I never authorized!!!!... after I refused to pay for the unauthorized extension, they sent it to a collection agency !!!! ... I am also EXTREMELY disappointed with Farmers claims service. A guy hit my truck ... I was found to NOT be at fault ... They totaled my truck (worth $9,000+) for a damage repair estimate of only $3800. Farmers then sold it as salvage for $4400. Farmers forced me to buy a new vehicle when all I wanted was to get my truck fixed. How can they total out a vehicle worth more than twice the cost of repairs? (it's obvious that after selling it for salvage, they saved themselves a few dollars on the claim ... but they've lost my business forever.) Because of the pattern of erroneous billings, worst claims service ever I would tell people to run from Farmers as fast as you can!!"
2008-09-16 18:22:16 EST

"It was the agent, not the ins company - my husband cancled my homeowners & he didn't tell me even though I am still at address. When I found out & renewed, agent asked it I still wanted the rider on our summer house - He had already sold my husband a poicy on the summer house & a seperate one for the contents as if he were a renter - it is community property. with the fees he was racking in he was gettng 4 times what the origonal policy was which covered bothplaces. There was a fire & my husband died - I did not know there was ins & when I asked he only told me about the one policy & I didn't know about the other until I got a bill for renewal. What a rip off!!"
2008-09-25 23:09:40 EST

"When I needed them most - for a claim on hailstorm - they came and agreed that there was damage to one side of my house so would only pay for one side of the house to be re-roofed and also one side to have new aluminum fascia with the remainder they would pay for a can of spray paint. Exceptionally poor claim service!"
2008-09-28 20:50:22 EST

"premiums keep increasing that it's like buying another car."
2008-09-29 16:53:37 EST

"Only take your money, but provide no service."
2008-10-01 01:00:58 EST

"We suffered an some fence, roof, tree, and minor water damage due to Hurricane Ike. Little did we know, we had a $10K deductible clause for hurricane damage. Our fault for not reading the fine print. 3 roofers recommended a new roof @ $9-$10K, insurance adjuster said it could be "patched" and quoted $2400 for all our damage. What a joke. This is the 2nd time this company has burned me. Will never do business with them again."
