Consumer Complaint:

On July 30, 2008, I called Travellers Insurance to make a payment because my regular monthly premium was due in August, and I had a balance left for July. When I called, they informed me that my auto insurance had been cancelled. I never received a cancellation notice, because I would have  paid this balance before my insurance was cancelled. I feel like after being a regular customer with them for over 5 years, they should have notified me. So now I am being charged $45 per vehicle for lapse of insurance that I was not aware of until I received a notice from our local DMV. If you would please let me know if there is anything I can do to where I do not have to pay this fee. Thank you so much for your help in this matter.

A letter to their CEO would be all I could suggest. If it lapsed, the state imposes the fine. Personally, I have seen more and more of these complaints arise recently -- and what is probably needed is a system to assure delivery, rather than stick checks and letters in the mail.
