Insurance Carrier: Auto Owners Insurance
My auto policy was due on May 12,2008. I notified my agent that I would not renew. I had liability and comprehensive on that policy. I took a policy with a different underwriter, Ins # 2. Ins # 1 sent me a statement, dated after May 12,2008, that my ins coverage would be canceled on June 12,2008 for non-payment. I filed a claim for theft loss on a truck and trailer, stolen on May 31, 2008. Ins #1 has denied claim, stating I had no coverage, letter stating June 12, 2008 was just a bill.

I'm not sure what the issue is. At the end of the original policy term the Auto-Owners policy expired. They'd sent you a non-renewal notice and the only issue is what expiry date was on that original policy. If the expiry was before the accident they are on the hook (assuming you were paid up to that point.) If you had policy 2 in effect at the time of the accident carrier 2 pays. You can't collect twice. As for fouled up billing, write a letter to the firm's General Counsel and complain -- I am not kidding.
