Auto Insurance Question from Hoernerstown, Pennsylvania
Answer given on November 3, 2019
Most automobile insurance companies do not care where the driver's license is from, especially if you own property in the state in question, and the car is garaged in that state.
You can check with your auto insurance company about this issue. If you are insuring another car in the new state, and using the same insurance company, they should be agreeable to the situation, since you have a reasonable point for keeping the license in the current state, whether it is your principal residence or not. In any event they should be able to check on your driving record in any state, so they can keep up with your driving record in either or both states.
By keeping both vehicles insured with the same insurance company you may also be eligible for a multi car discount even if the cars are in separate states.
