Home Insurance Question from Carpentersville, Illinois
Answer given on October 10, 2018
If your insurance company denied a claim for damage to your roof due to wind and hail damage, you can get another estimate and review whether they agree to it or not. Most roofers will look at your roof at no charge and if they can find evidence of damage due to storms, they can contact the insurance company to review the denied claim. Go ahead and get the estimate from another roofer. If they support your contention of damage, you should call your insurance company and speak to the adjuster. If they still deny the claim, ask to speak to a supervisor to review the entire claim.
If your roof is old and there was existing damage to it due to previous storms, it may be difficult to get your insurance company to agree to pay for the roof to be repaired. However, you may still want to get the roof repaired or replaced as future damage will still be denied by your insurance company.
