"The condition of my home, roof, close trees, extra items outdoors, is the same as previous yeara insured with farmers. I just receoived a notice I am being dropped for being older along with other items that were the same for many years. This is a long time, years, with the same insurance company. I have never filed a claim for the 55 years in total my home has been insured. I questioned filing a claim for a 500 tree that a neighbor cut down on my property. My agent said if I filed a 500 claim my premiums could be increased so I didn't file a claim. They took thousands of dollare from me for premiums over the years Now that they are canceling me I am canceling them with a request of a months premium be returned to me. They will probably state they cant do that if I read the small print."

"Wanted to consolidate Insurance policies. Farmers agent gave nice speech about great service. Put three rental properties with them and an Umbrella Policy. Agent told me to be sure to cancel my policies with old carriers. He tried to get us to move our primary residence and another rental to a Farmers but I declined because they are in a high fire area category so I didnt want to risk losing coverage. Left those and auto with Allstate. Other rental properties were with different insurance companies because Allstate is cutting coverage in California. Anyhow, just got letter from Farmers that theyre canceling coverage due to the type of roofing on the rentals. Properties have flat roofs. Enclosed was letter saying I might get other coverage through agent. Fortunately, I hadnt canceled my policies with old carriers so I will stay with my old Insurance. Stay away from Farmers."

"I was rear ended 1st by someone also insured wFarmers. They never reimbursed me 850.00 for the rental car. I had to go to court for my neck and back injuries. They only paid part medical and I was awarded 1,500. Must of had a head injury, I was still insured wFarmers 3 years later when I was rear ended again by UI driver going 50mph. After physical therapy and 3 years treatment, I had to go to court to try and get a settlement, for more than 500.00 they were offering. They are only paying for 3 months of 3 years of treatment policy is up to 300,000. Farmers is claiming pre existing conditions. They are using the 1st collision lowballed against me, leaving me with medical bills and no ongoing treatment funds and award me 2,200 for my pain and suffering. My back will never be OK. Also never reimbursed me for the tow with my roadside service. 216.00, They are paying 3 months medical on the 3 years treatment. Nothing for mileage or gas for appointments. Nothing for medical supplies 60.00 tens unit back brace 30.00. Refused a rental car and left me stranded for 4-6 weeks wo a car Collision was very painful, but really doesn't compare to the pain that Farmers causes. Advice, steer clear of Farmers insurance"

"Used to be a Farmers agent. Drop em fast all they do is raise rates. They look for every reason to deny policyholders claims and payout to people filing claims on your policy even if not at fault then they blame you and raise your rates. Their underwriters and claims folks share one brain which is to get as much money out of you as possible without providing anything. At least a stripper gives you a lap dance."

"Twice I was lowballed on two claims. ist was hit by also inssured Farmers driver. Ended getting 1,400 for whiplash after 3 years treatment. 2nd hit and run much harder than 1st. They denied UI claim due to pre-existing medical. Lowballed me for the 1st, then used it against me on the 2nd Total different injuries, but they denied claim. Received nothing for 3 years medical that will continue most likely the rest of my life. Horrible to deal with from start. Only pre-existing condition was keeping Farmers insurance. Steer clear of them."

"This company stole my money. They issued me a home owners policy and then canceled a month later saying the fire line score is too high. My refund check came in at 12 what I owed. They basically stole my money. It was obvious they intended to just take my money and then cancel. Avoid this dishonest company like the plaque "

"Been with farmers over 18 years never filed once sept 10th hurricane caused lots of damage to my home Paid a couple Thousand A year for premiums for 18 years .....insured past 100.000 for home damage They gave me not one penny for damages to home. This was my first and only claim. Farmers only want you're yearly premiums and do not pay for damages to home after huracanes. Farmers policy is geared to collect yearly premiums.and denieing claims. my advice. Get a lawyer and file suit against farmers Insurance company.don't let them just take your yearly money and do not give you your just compensation on claims as a first time claim after 18 years of paying on insurance thousand dollars a year. Farmers bought foremost insurance company in the year 2000. And both named company's are geared to take -yearly premiums, and deny claims. More people should file laws suits against these insurance company's ."

"Worst experience ever with Farmers Insurance. Have always liked them until now. Had a leak in a very tiny crawl space that we could not have known about at all. Floor started to sag and called to file a claim. Ooooops, there is a clause for that. Of course there is Seriously, paid in thousands of dollars for something I am forced to carry and the one time I need them. NOT there. Complete and utter crap. Now we will have to spend around 7000 to fix the issues on our own, yet we still are forced to pay their premiums each month. I think I am going to put a giant sign in my pasture on the road about this so everyone can know what kind of garbage company this is. I will blog about this on every site I can as well. No help when you need them."

"Farmer's Insurance Co. of Illinois did not provide adjuster w knowledge of calculating volume of water held in pipes when determining claim win 1 yr. of claim. Did not pay on damage covered in policy for replacement value of any household item except coffee table. Parents paid policy for 42 yrs. with only roof damage claim two decades prior. Provided everything they asked for listings with values, pictures and did all measures they suggested to prevent further damage. I had 4-way telephone conference pointing out sections of policy that covered each every question they had regarding parent's claim. We all agreed on all points of coverage for claim, but, in the end, they did not pay for any content replacement except a wood glass coffee table. Due to letter from Farmer's saying 3000 allowance for carpets, I replaced 3000 worth of carpets only to have Farmer's change their mind and not pay for carpets. Parents rec'd enough for repairs only. Content coverage is required even though replacement coverage of policy is not honored Sent letter saying no legal recourse after 1 yr. from claim date. Suggest CEO send out inquiries about satisfaction later than he does in the claim process for true data. Read satisfaction chart, not just review stars when looking for insurance company."

Nearly every house and apartment buildings have had new roofs. So what's Farmers problem they take your money for coverage but you get nothing in return. Terrible insurance they need to take those lying commercials off.>>>>"

"I've been with Farmer's Insurance for many years. I carry alot of insurance. Their price are not competitive. I've changed agents 4 times because they are either on the golf course, away from the office or at a conference. Many of the phone staff at headquarters and the loyalty team are nice and knowledgeable. I found a company that is rated 1 in insurance and will change my auto and personal umbrella policy. Even with the multiple policy discount I will save close to 900.00. I recall when Allstate increased their prices without warning. I left and never returned. I will do the same with Farmer's as soon as I can. "

"I've cancelled all of our policies with Farmers. I'm 58 years old. My husband Is 59. We've had Farmers my whole life. My father was a farmers agent. My brother in law was a Farmers agent. I've had it with them. Out of the 40 years we've had them we've never ever had any claim on our cars or home. We have no tickets or accidents. I've never ever had a ticket or accident yet our insurance was through the roof for the worst coverage. We have spent a fortune with this company and have decided we have had enough. We went with a really good company and have saved 1,000 a year and our coverage has doubled. I hate to say this, but we feel we were screwed all these years. Happy we switched."

I Have used them since I was 16yrs. old and I am over 55 now They have a great HELP LINE that is answered 24hrs a day for claim service or if you need roadside assistance. I Have unfortunately used both over the years, a claims rep for my car or home has always been out the next day, and I Have never waited more than 15-20 minutes for roadside assistance. "

"I have been with Farmers for literally 42 years We have house, 2 vehicles, 2 motorcycles, 1 toy hauler insured with them. It seems they were fine for years but in the last 10 years or so I have not been happy with their service or their rates. My rates have literally gone up 30% from March 2013 to February 2015 on my house premium. We have had 2 claims on our house- one back in about 1990 for damage from a horrible hailstorm, and about 5 years ago for a leaky pipe going into our house. I had to fight TOOTH NAIL to get them to do anything on the leak-they said it was due to "wear tear" on a copper pipe. The total claim was 1,800. Have been ticket free for years yet my auto motorcycle rates continue to go up despite the fact they are all paid for and not fully covered, and the vehicles are old, 2000 Durango 1997 F-350. Just had a "review" a couple weeks ago in which we stated our concerns, he said he would see what he could do get back with us....haven't heard a word. I am switching, they are total rip-offs, uncaring, scamming I believe borderline at least fraudulent. No more loyalty here, screw them, I'm done"

They have increased their homeowners rates over 30% in a 2 year period. They have also increased their auto insurance rates to for their loyal customers. I filed a claim because the inside roof of my car was wet from some leakage. The adjuster came out and looked and then later I was offered 1850 for the car if I kept it and 2250 if they took it . I think that was more than fair. The claims adjuster was a little snippy at times when I asked him about the rent a car part. They said they paid me 500 dollars for that because I didn't take a rental . He wasnt really rude but wasn't the nicest either but overall I"m happy with what I got and I still have my car. "

"I had farmers insurance for over twenty years. Farmer's insured everything I had - 2 homes 3 cars 3 life policies on family members a boat a motorcycle and an umbrella policy. I filed two claims on a home in those twenty years - the problem was that both claims were filed within 12 months of one another combined claims of 17000. Wind damage tree fell on house and hail damage to shingles. After that they would not renew my home insurance. My neighbor was my Farmer's agent. He was completely embarrassed by this company. Apparently the company has changed and long time agents are quitting Farmers at an alarming pace. Farmers service and reputation has disintegrated over the last decade and agents can no longer look people in the eye after discovering how this company treats people. How can a company treat a long time customer in such a manner? Farmers rates are higher than most. However I am the type of person who will pay more for a service if I am receiving value and know that the company will be there for me when I need them. I mean that is what insurance is all about. I was literally dumbfounded at how casually and uncaringly Farmers cast aside a twenty year customer relationship. Two claims in twenty years - really? All they could explain was I was high risk because the claims fell within 12 months of one another not 2 claims in 20 years. Farmers made me feel like a fool for trusting them with protecting my family's financial well-being. The reality is that Farmers is no better than the cheapest insurance I can find on the internet. Shame on you Farmers and shame on its CEO Paul Hopkins for allowing Farmers to lose what had been a solid reputation. Good luck competing on price with all the low cost providers because that is all you have left to differentiate yourself in the market place I suspect that you cannot compete on cost. "

"My parents had Farmers on their house for as long as I can remember. Don't recall them ever having any problems. My wife and I bought their house a year ago after my mom died and stayed with Farmers up until last month. At that time Farmers contacted me and told me it was about time to renew the policy and that the rates were going up. That was an UNDERSTATEMENT The premium for the home insurance went from roughly 1900 all the way up to 4800 per year They told me that if I added my autos and stuff it would lower the price 'significantly'. So we had them quote the house our 2 rent houses and the autos altogether to see what kind of 'significant' savings we would get. Well for our home the 2 rent houses and 4 autos they wanted almost 11k per year. WHAT????? We immediately started shopping and ended up with a rate that was about 1/3 of that for everything plus added a boat and a trailer on to the deal. Farmers is nuts with the prices they are trying to charge. Needless to say we have dropped Farmers like a hot rock and we will NEVER go back to them. "

"I HAD auto insurance thru Farmers and had automatic payments set up. A couple days ago I checked my account online to find that Farmers had taken 650.00 out of my checking. I called the insurance agent to find out why and was really shocked and disgusted to hear his answer. Farmers will raise peoples rates to get them to drop their policy. I asked the agent why they didn't just call me and tell me they didn't want to insure me anymore and he said "Yea they won't do that." So what it boils down to is they did not want to insure me anymore so instead of dropping me or notifying me in any way they decided to take more than half of my money out of my account less than a week before Christmas. It's definitely morally wrong but how is this even legal. I have not had any speeding tickets or made any claims so their is no reason for this. Truly disgusted about this and would not recommend this company to anyone ever."

I told him that it was none of his business and to stop the new bills that were being sent by Farmers. Farmers cancelled the policy but tried to bill me for 30 days because the Farmers agents in Cincinnati are saying that I have to prove to them that I have purchased insurance from another company. Then in year twenty-one one of the cars was damaged by a hit-and-run the damage was more than 2000. Because that car was only worth about that amount I filed only a claim for the windshield because it is against the law to drive with a broken windshield. With the 250 deductable the amount they were to reimburse me was a tiny 150. They REFUSED. DENIED. This went on four months. They were extremely nasty and whenever I called they behaved as if they didnt know what I was talking about. Because of the stress they caused me I decided to file a claim for the full amount before I thought Id be nice and just live with the body damage They DENIED that of course and continue to deny it. I want to say that the reason we went we an expensive policy like Farmers is that should anything happen I DID NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS Weve given this company a lot of money and they have done nothing for us. They finally paid but no where near what the damages were. The 2nd claim was for a bathroom where the commode leaked between floors. Both minor claims totally 7k. I had a leak in my ceiling during the storm the ONLY LEAK Ive ever had in the 4 years of living in the house. The claims adjuster said that the damage isnt covered because my roof doesnt have direct storm damage that can tie into the leak. I have been told that I have hail damage on my roof. Plus my entire porch roof was ruined and also my kitchen roof which is flat. This investigation is ongoing so right now I am very dissatisfied because the first claims adjuster said I said my roof leaked before like I would ever say that and so they arent replacing my roof. I called and asked for another claims adjuster to come out after I had a contractor look at my roof etc. The contractor said he would come out when the new claims adjuster came. "Experienced a claim from excessive snow and ice damage from the winter storms of 09 /10. I was told by the adjuster that Farmers would not cover the loss. Their reason was the type of construction of the roof and the pitch of the roof. The roof was new in 03. The weight caused the sheeting to cave. The agent would not stand by his client as he said,"Thereis nothing I can do." the office staff said to take it to the state insurance board.I believe Farmers on their recent TV ads fail to mention the most important part of Farmers University. That is to graduate, they must always take the position to deny, delay, and dishonor the people who have a policy with them."

I cancelled the end of Jan. 2010. My homeowners insurance was an automatic withdraw from my checking account. After I canceled I recieved a bill for $27.12. I questioned how I could have a bill when it was an auto payment. The only answer I ever got was we must have ended the auto pay before we collected all of the premiums. "Clog in drain line;laundry tub filled with sewage and overflowed into basement. Farmers sent a cleanup company and then adjuster came to check their work, etc. They agreed to pay and replace carpeting damaged in basement. Adjuster then took photos of every possible issue, none of structural damage, and now they want to cancel my policy. Instead of doing what she came for, I left her alone to do her job, and this is what I am left with. I would have been better off to pay for cleanup myself. Now, I have to remedy some ridiculous things (stated by two separate professional carpenters) in order to keep my homeowners. Once this stuff is settled I plan to switch to anyone but Farmers. My agent is a very nice lady but somewhat ineffective. "

Auto policy goes up (until I got tired of them and went to Geico at a 50% savings) now the home owners policy went up but no reason given for the increase. Called around for quotes and found quotes from 361.00 to 988.00 (farmers is 927.00) using my farmers as a benchmark. exact same coverage but huge difference in price. After all these years I would not recommend Farmers and their supposedly great service. "

"They do not insure against any occurrences except those caused by sudden and unexpected incidents (fire, for example). In the case of a water pipe bursting, they paid for the repair of the room, but not for the pipe because they do not insure the "systems" ie, electrical, plumbing, etc. In the case of a drain in the interior of the house failing they refused to pay for any of the damage because they claimed it was a gradual leak, not a sudden problem, even though the moldy wall became evident suddenly (within 24 hours mold appeared on the wall where it had been clean the day before). This is because people do not like change in their lives and name recognition. They loose an addtional 5% but they are making so much more money on the ones who stay. They are going to keep increasing rates over and over agin untill the majority of their customers have had enough. When they start loosing an addition 20% or 30% they will back off."

"When I signed up with Farmers, they gave me terrific rate quotes on both a home and auto policy. After the underwriters reviewed my policies both the auto and home rates went up 25% or more within 1 month of starting my policy with them. Some of the increases were due to some discounts that were not applied because the company did not obtain some information they needed from me. When the information was supplied, a portion of the rate increases was brought down. The remaining rate increases were due to a difference in a judgement call between the agent and underwriters. Apparently the underwriters did not agree with and respect the judgement calls made by the agent. To say the least, I felt I had been scammed by being promised low rates and once I signed up the rates went up 25% or more within 30 days. I immediately found another, higher rated insurance company and cancelled my policy with Farmers. Do not use Farmers, all their reviews, I have researched, are lower than average in comparison with other insurance companies. "

The insurance company said that I was not covered and my agent told me that I was covered. I was sued by customer and I in turn sued the company and lost because they said that I wasn't covered. Under errors and ommissions I should have sued the agent because he kept telling me that I was covered. Till this day he is still saying that the insurance should have paid me. I don't know who was at fault but I don't recommend this company to no one I know. "Our HOA has insurance coverage with Farmers. There are 3 units in the HOA. Over the twelve years our coverage has increased from $ 1000 annually to $3110 currently. This insurance is for buildings and director's liability only. Each unit must additionally get coverage for the interior of the unit. There has never been a claim and Farmers has steadily "decreased" the areas formerly covered (e.g. total removal of "any" type of water damage coverage). So while the rate has gone up, the "insured" benefits has gone down. This is not acceptable. We are shopping for a better policy and a more customer friendly company (is that a contradiction in terms?)."

I called our agent earlier this week to get an up dated quote, and I was told that it would now be 2,008.50 for 6 months. Just to let you know we have had 0, no fault claims, we have had 3 weather related claims. We have had 0 claims on our home 0. I was injured in the accident and promptly supplied Farmers with all the medical bills and other information that they requested. Six months and the third adjuster later, they still had not settled my claim. In the last 5 months they have made blatant bookeeping errors causing ME to have to call my bank calm them down, hand deliver payments to Farmers only to have Farmer's bookkeepers CONTINUE to make errors AND then send angry notices to ME like it's my fault! After being with them for 30 YEARS one would expect an apology and a quick fix. Hardly. Not only no apology but their errors finally caused my policy to somehow automatically cancel so now I have to send more checks to essentially re-apply with them. After 30 years Farmer's bookkepers have exhausted me and with no apology or gesture on their part they have made the company cold as a refrigerator door. My advice, if your insurance company spends more time telling you what they CAN'T do for you, look for a company that will spend more time telling you what they CAN do for you. Ultimately, the losses totaled over $75,000, and Farmers took six months to finish claim payment. Inexcusable. Farmers is slow, uncaring, and the adjusters clearly hold Farmers interests far above the insured's. They used to be a good company, but no more. Although Farmer's always billed us promptly and processed our payments promptly, when we finally needed the service for which we have paid handsomely -- namely, payment of a claim for an auto accident -- they told us our policy wasn't in force. They weren't able to give us an explanation as to why, although they admitted to cashing our checks. In the meantime, they have initiated an internal "investigation" into our claim -- leaving us and the other party unable to have our cars repaired. It appears that we will be required to use our savings to pay for the other party's car repairs -- and initiate legal action to collect from Farmer's. Run far, far away."

You know what we got from Farmers--$1800.00 for "remediation". Not to mention that when we bought our home 14 years ago, they have raised our rates every years since then by an average of ~24% per year! In 1995 our premium was, now get ready, $384.00. Since then, it has gone up to an astounding $1,716.42, an increase of 347%! If I didn't know better, I think they have been blacklisting us since the claim filed in 2001 because when we try to get insurance with another company, we either get turned down or get an outrageous quote. "In November 2007, I was hit by another car in a parking lot. I was told that I would be accepting respnsibility for the accident-before I even had a chance to tell my side of the story! I was also told if the payout to the other driver was more than $400, I would lose my good driver discount and my rates would increase 35%. I argued that it was not my fault and was told "Fine. I'll tell him it was his fault if that's what you want." Way to work for me-a loyal customer of over 12 years with her first claim. Fast forward to April, I got a call from the gal representing me in the arbitration case because my original statement either did not record in the first place or they lost it, so she needed me to redo it. In between all of this, my husband died (of natural causes) while driving home. The next morning, first they called to speak to him, and then later someone else called demanding to know which repair shop to tow his car to because I HAD to repair it and it had to be moved right away because it was costing her too much money for it to stay in the lot it was towed to. "I **LOVE** Farmer's Isurance. During Hurricane Ike, our house was severely damaged (over 100K in structural damage, 20K in emergency water mitigation, over 100K in contents) and as the house was unlivable, we moved to a temporary house and Farmers is paying for our stay. The hurricane hit on Sept 13. I contacted their claims department and the operator routed me to their "catastrophic" division given the size of the damage. As promised, I had a response back in less then 4 hours. We had an adjuster on-site the following Tuesday. Everything went and is ging smoothly. they have been fair, responsive, polite and have gone to extraordinaly lenghts to educate us on what to do as this is our first claim on something of this magnitute. The agent was helpful but the company (Farmers) is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. I looked around at all the other homes in our neighborhood and talked to people at work. While everyone else waited for a week (or weeks), we had the fastest response. One of my colleagues is still waiting for an adjuster to visit his house and it's been almost 4 weeks since the hurricane. The agent makes a great difference. The company too. I read the comments here and I am shocked about all the negative comments. If you are looking for a company to work, I highly recommend Farmers. In all my interactions with them, they have been extremely fair. I Re-read most of those negative comments and I appreciate why people are complaining but in most cases, it is either their own fault (let coverage lapse, bad communication, etc.) or a bad agent (cashed the check but did not upgrade the policy). God Bless!"

Our fault for not reading the fine print. 3 roofers recommended a new roof @ $9-$10K, insurance adjuster said it could be "patched" and quoted $2400 for all our damage. What a joke. This is the 2nd time this company has burned me. Will never do business with them again."

Exceptionally poor claim service!"

"Farmers double billed me for coverage that was pre-paid ... I took hours and heated arguments to prove my side of the story with payment history ... the repeatedly told me I still owed them for what had already been paid ... their accounting/billing is the worst! And then when I purposely let another homeowners policy end without renewing, they tried to charge me for a policy extension that I never authorized!!!!... after I refused to pay for the unauthorized extension, they sent it to a collection agency !!!! ... I am also EXTREMELY disappointed with Farmers claims service. A guy hit my truck ... I was found to NOT be at fault ... They totaled my truck (worth $9,000+) for a damage repair estimate of only $3800. Farmers then sold it as salvage for $4400. Farmers forced me to buy a new vehicle when all I wanted was to get my truck fixed. How can they total out a vehicle worth more than twice the cost of repairs? (it's obvious that after selling it for salvage, they saved themselves a few dollars on the claim ... but they've lost my business forever.) Because of the pattern of erroneous billings, worst claims service ever I would tell people to run from Farmers as fast as you can!!"

Had insurence with them for years and the one time I had a car accident (my fault) they paid very poorly...lowest estimate I received was $3500 to fix my car(from 3 diff car shops) and they would not give me more than $1400. The adjuster insisted that they used some "formula" to calculate the "accurate" cost of the repair. Well their formulas need to be updated since we're not living in the 1980's anymore. "

"Have been a customer since 1947 and filed only a handfull of claims. Even been with the same family (agent) since that time. Began with father and now with son. Having paid premiums for 60 years I thought I would get better service regarding a claim last year. I was involved in a care accident that was not my fault. Rear ended by an undocumented immigrant. Damage to both front and rear of my 1995 Ford Taurus which had less than 50K miles. It cost a little over $5,000.00 to fix and Farmer's only gave me $2,000.00. The adjuster was rude and did not return my calls. All calls were logged incoming and outgoing with my caller ID. She called me a liar and told me if I did not like her service I could complain. Well I tried but to no avail, my agent, nor any supervisor would contact me regarding this matter. My agent told me that I did not get replacement value on my car because it was too old and he would not help me because, and this I do not understand, he worked for Farmers and not me so he could not help me recoup any more money. It would be taking money from his employer. After 60 years of premiums, and probably putting this kid through college, I could not believe he had the gall to treat me like that. Upon reciept of my next homeowners policy I was surprised to learn that I had carpet, 2 car garage, 1&1/2 bath, and many other aminities that I clearly do not have. Just another way to get more money out of a senior citizen living on a fixed income. You might ask why I do not change insurance companies...I live in a flood plain and have carried flood insurance for 60 years, if I leave I will not be able to get flood insurance anywhere else. I am not happy at all in fact my children cancelled their insurance policies with this company because of this incident."

"I am a current underwriter for Farmers and reading these comments are ridiculous. We do not raise rates for not at fault claims. We do not raise rates if you have a home claim and have had 6 years with farmers with no claims. Insurance rates are going up, that's the way it is folks! So are gas prices. Yes, some agents are awful, and I have no experience with helppoint, but some of these claims of rate increases are absolutely false. I love working, and having Farmers Insurance."

"Very unfair when determining value of a total loss vehicle. Opening offer was literally half what it is worth in reality, ended up settling for around 25% less than value of car, not to mention all the miscelenneous costs involved with replacing a vehicle. They offered far less than any other comparable insurance company would for pain and discomfort (a whopping $225 for a totalled, very violent collision, neck strain, chest pain, cuts, bruises) This company must be on the ropes financially to be so poor at settling claims. I checked their rating and they are far less stable than other companies. I'm shopping now for another company."

"Had a front to front collision pulling out onto a main street. Police without investigation automatically placed blame on us. Farmers touted "HelpPoint" phone number did nothing but add to the confusion at the accident site. Car was towed to a body shop and sat there several days. This accident was 1000 miles from home. After I pushed and hounded the adjuster's office for over a week they decided to total the vehicle. The value they placed on it was more than fare since it was comparable to the retail price on a similar used vehicle. In reading many of the comments on this site I have come to the conclusion that how Farmers treats its customers is directly to the agent, adjusters and the rest of the people involved. Farmers would do well to hold their people to higher standards. It appears that home owners live nightmares when making a claim from the stories I've read. Fortunately I have never had to make a claim. In my investigation I believe that folks who are extremely satisfied with the rates may be mis-leading themselves since it is service when needed that counts. "

"My insurance premiums increase every 6 months. When I called my agent to explain why the increase he says it due to insurance rates going up. Add'l $150 for 6 months, that's a lot for 2 autos?? That's steep! I don't have any speeding tickets, accidents or any type of tickets. Also, they threaten to raise my homeowner's insurance every 6 months if I don't show them proof that I have an alarm/fire system. It's also ridiculous to pay a service charge each month $6.00 when they EFT my checking for the payment. "

(even credit card companies will drop a late charge if you ask nicely) the nice lady admits that it was their mistake but she still can't do anything about it. can you imagine what would happen if i tried to get money from them? this is all about me trying to give them my money! what if i actually had to file a claim? i went through costco's website and ameriprise will do the same coverage (actually a little more coverage) for about $150 less a year. and tomorrow i'll get a quote through my savings and loan."

"Company good...agent not so good. Agent raised our deductibles each time we purchased a new car and because we trusted him we just assumed it was due to the increase in value in car. Once we realized what he had been doing he had made an additional $4,000.00 over 5 years. Check every bill and do not pay any bills from Farmers until you understand every dollar they are charging you and what it is for. Unless you have an extra $4,000.00 you don't mind parting with. "

"Seems to increase premiums despite absence of claims."

"In a claim, was changed from one person to another, to another. Settled claim without contacting us. Cost us money, plus a lot of time, out of pocket - without being at fault"

"I feel bullied by Farmers - they did a drive by and demanded I replace my old shake roof within 30 days - I had already contacted to have it replaced a couple weeks after their deadline, but asked the roofer to do it earlier which they did -- however, there was an unexpected rain storm and the exposed roof leaked onto computer equipment. I filed a claim, but canceled the claim as the computer did work after it dried out. My premium went up due to the fact a claim was filed - even though Farmers never paid a dime and the claim was pulled. That's ridiculous! "

"I just don't trust my agent. The rates change on me for no reason. When I ask her to clarify she blames the billing company. I have been wondering if she is stealing this money from me or it's actually a mistake. If I didn't constantly check my rates and how they change I wouldn't notice that every other month or so it goes up by 10 to $20. Once I talk to her about it, it goes back down. HUH? fishy to me!"

"Tried to get my front windshield fixed - what a joke. Tried changing my address online and after I filled everything out I had to call my agent anyway. What a waste of my time. Think I'll try Amica."

"We have been Farmer's clients for over 20 years. Earlier this year we had water damage due to a leak in our roof caused by a blown-off shingle. The repairs came to less than $2000.00. Our policy just went up 35%! 20+ years without a SINGLE claim and we're penalized $500.00 a year for 3 years. Plus, our agent is not very helpful and has the personality of a rock. I am currently getting quotes from other insurers. I've had enough. "

"Farmers has a problem with the payment plans, that no one seems to understand including the Agent. I get so many bills per policy that I can't tell how much money I'm paying and the premiums keep changing. No one can explain, now my agent has quit."

"Three houses on our block needed a new roof last year due to hail. The other 2 houses got some compensation toward their roof. Farmers spent $4500 flying an engineer up from another city to say our roof problem was not caused by hail and they reimbursed us nothing. When we talked to the agent he said the records showed we cost them $4500, but on investigating, he found out that money did not go to us. It is how much money Farmers spent to keep from paying us anything. That was our first claim in the 9 years we had our homeowners insurance with them and they went out of their way to keep from paying us one cent. We will never carry insurance with them again. "

"I was the victim in a car accident. Since one of the drivers was underinsured and the other driver has not yet been assessed a percentage of blame, my underinsured/uninsured coverage is paying and will reclaim their costs from the other insurance companies. The only part of my insurance that has been working so far is the PIP part. The other problems are: they are using their "special adjustment program (Colossus)" to calculate the value of my truck - their most recent offer is about half what it will cost to replace the truck and they are giving little consideration to the custom bed we had made in Oklahoma and drove down to have it installed. I told the adjuster if he sent the check, I would send it back. They have now hired an "independent" appraiser. We'll see how "independent" he is. In Washington State we are allowed to hire an independent appraiser, too, at our expense of course. The next problem was they weren't going to cover the loss of the personal items that were in the truck or in the two toolbox compartments on each side of the flatbed. My agent said it was "just your loss". It turned out after talking to the PIP department adjuster (the one helpful person) that the personal property should be covered by my homeowners policy (also with Farmers). So far we are looking at two $500 deductables - one for the auto, one for the personal property. The final blow was I had borrowed a flatbed equipment trailer to haul the six 1,000 lbs bales of hay I had just bought and was hauling home at the time of the accident. They informed me that since the trailer was not owned by me or a family member the policy had a $500 limit for the loss. The trailer's value is $8,000 and they will pay the owner $500 for the "utility" trailer and out of the goodness of their heart they did pay the towing bill on the trailer - from the accident scene to the wrecking yard and then to the owners property - which was almost $1,200. I have two horse trailer endorsements that I pay year round and a farm endorsement. I would never have thought I wouldn't be covered for the trailer. My agent told me that I had to look at it from their point of view. I borrowed the trailer and didn't tell them and I wasn't paying a premium on it. I told her to look at my point of view. I insured two trailers and only used one of them four times last year, yet I paid premiums year round. This whole situation is not over since the wreck occurred the middle of March. One other bit of information. The adjuster told me that they would put a claim in against the other insurance (or both if the other guy is assigned fault) and if they got more than they paid me I would get the difference. I wonder who does the accounting on that one. This was a tragic wreck two people died and the remaining driver had serious injuries. He is still not home yet. Dealing with Farmers has had a negative effect on my health. I already had high blood pressure that was controlled and stable for the last several years. My doctor has over doubled the amount of blood pressure medication to try to keep it down. I did tell the adjuster that just being fair with the truck and trailer would still be a lot cheaper for them than if I had died in the wreck. If the truck wouldn't have been an F350 with that steel customized bed, it is most likely that I would have also been a fatality when that motorhome hit me."

"If you have ever considered getting insurance from Farmers Insurance, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. What commodity does insurance deal in anyway? Trust... trust is the commodity of the insurance business, and Farmers Insurance can only be trusted to do one thing. Take your money with a smile, then cut and run when the chips are down. After 15 years of faithful payments to Farmers Insurance, my wife and I accidentally missed one payment and were left high and dry when we were involved in an auto accident. We immediately got current with our payment but were told we were out of luck. I can understand where they're coming from. It's big buisness and we were just another small fish. We continued using Farmers for our Insurance just long enough to research other companies. Then we sent a letter cancelation when the coverage date expired. Months later we recieved harassing calls and letters from International Association of Commercial Collectors Inc. telling us that we were delinquent for a payment in the amount of $30.17. When we contacted Farmers to ask them what these charges were for, they informed us that after our coverage expired, they had, out of the "goodness" of their hearts extended our services and were charging us for that extra service which we did not ask for and had previously asked to cancel. Funny that they didn't have such good intentions when we were in need (the accident totalled about $2,000.00). But now that we were no longer doing business with them, they decided to charge us for services we did not use nor did we ask for. It's kind of scary when you think about it. They can arbitrarily give you services that you don't ask for, and if you get into an accident they're not involved, but if you aren't, they write up whatever amount they want and stick it to you. Farmers Insurance... You can kiss my @$$."
