"I have cancelled the policy and I am still getting charged. No one picks up phone and no body replies to emails."

"they scam the customers by hiding the service fees from the contract information. Later when you want to file a claim they mention the fees first to deter you."

"They will quote you and give you insurance at a very cheap rate and 3 months later send you a bill for thousands of dollars more a year 3000 on my case a year. When you cancel as it was my case they will prorate that price for those 3 months and take at least close to 2k for the 3 months of insurance that they were so generous to provide you. Apparently all of this is legal. We will see."

"Take the worst stereotype of insurance company dragging their feet to avoid payment multiply by 10 and youll start to get a feeling for the morass that is First Americans claims process. They are truly hideous to deal with."

"I have never filed a claim but based on their lack of normal business practices I have wondered how well a claim would be handled. I pay my insurance premium every six months. The first time it came up for renewal I received no notification that the payment would be taken from my checking account and they simply canceled the policy until I called and asked why the cancellation notice. My car insurance is through Geico and I get an email weeks in advance stating that on a SPECIFIC date the payment will be deducted from my account. The customer service person told me that it is First Americans practice not to send renewal payment notices. Hmmm... So I register my policy on their online site. I know that my next payment should be coming up. Does the policy information reflect the next due date or the amount NO. It shows the payment from the last six month renewal as being the next payment with a zero balance. Go figure. I call customer service. The woman is nice and obviously trying to help. All she can tell me is that my policy is set to renew on the 20th 2 weeks from when I called but she cant tell me the amount of the payment as that information wont be available until the payment date. She doesnt expect there will be a price increase. Lord almighty What a scam. How is a person to know what money should be allocated for the insurance premium They dont know the policy renewal rate two weeks away from the renewal date Guess what. Im going to another company that can provide better service and seems to know more about what the hell they are doing. My guess is that these folks would try to get out of paying a claim anyway they could. Cheap rates arent everything."

"Do not buy insurance for appliances. I have been without heat for 2 weeks with 4 children. They denied my claim stating my motor was damaged by the "metal : filter. I should have changed the filter and used disposable. My unit is 2years old. I am trying to get someone to fix but cannot afford. Received a call yesterday that they reviewed my case and will send someone for a second opinion. The contractor was ready for his check and was paid on the first meeting. I DO not have any faith in them and do not believe they will send a second person. To be denied again NO Way. They are not reputable and after reading reviews looking for another company to give spend my money with. I have told friends, neighbors and coworkers of my bad experience. I have had to purchase 3 heaters to keep the bedrooms fairly warm in 16 degree temperatures. What a shame."

"After submitting a claim for an accidental stove top fire, we have experienced a long waiting period towards a final resolution. During the claim process, First American notified us that their view of our incident was not an accident and due to negligence. Although they are continuing to process our claim, they have indicated that our policy will not be renewed next year and we are to find another insurance company. Our view is that although the fire should have been avoidable we would have understood a premium cost increase instead of a cancelation. It did not make sense. We are still waiting for resolution on our claim since 9/22/08 submission date. The claims representative was very helpful and provided good customer service."
