"They wouldn't cover a biopsy because I was short the 6 month waiting period and it was concerning a reproductive organ. Apparently reproductive organs are considered completely irrelevant pesky and unnecessary to cover. "

"I have been trying to reach this company for the past three days. They do NOT answer their phones. I get an automated "We are experiencing extremely high call volumes. Please call again later" response and then the line goes dead. They rejected a claim for a physical BUT my policy clearly states I have full coverage for preventative services which includes a physical. Thinking the doctor's office may have just coded it incorrectly I called to have the code verified. It was correct. IF I ever reach this company I am cancelling my policy. Earlier today I was so frustrated after trying to reach the company for several hours that I signed up for alternate health insurance. I am so DONE with this company "

"High premiums-high 10000 deductible-rate increases 20% a year...and everything is out of pocket.goes towards deductible My bank account is dwindling down paying premiums have to go to FREE Health Fairs for flu shots blood tests... or hassle getting coverage. Dr. recommends certain tests...but cannot go because all bills are out of pocket I can't afford it. Waste of Money. Obamacare better be better than this. Golden Rule/ UNH stock price keeps going higher...they collects premiums- don't pay for anything for anything except basic wellness. What a profitable business BIG RIP OFF Obamacare better STOP this Financial Abuse by health insurance companies NOW"

"Goldenrule denies claims when they know and state that they have inadequate medical records rather than requesting more records. Even if the customer gets then gets the records for them they force the customer to appeal the decision."

"In April 2012 I received a letter from Golden Rule stating that they were raising my rate 16%. In July of the same year I was refunded 7.4% of my premium for the prior year since the company did not spend 80% of premiums for healthcare expenses. In April again this year I have been informed by the company that my rates are going up an additional 16%. I am terminating my policy and will go without health insurance."

"This company is the ultimate feet draggers. They do everything in there power to not pay a claim however legitimate. I paid years of premiums to this company and when I finally did file a claim for an illness they did everything in their power to refute it. Please take my advice and get any insurance but golden rule."

" Just facts.1.While a representative and I have not set up a date for premiums to be withdrawn from my accountmy account was charged and it resulted in multiple overdraft fees.2. Initially I filed the application with the United Health and expected this name to appear on my credit card statement but instead the application fees appeared under"Miscellaneous Items" 2 weeks later.I did not know that it was the United Health. I called the phone number listed along with the transaction and it turned to be a third party customer service. ThenI called my credit card company and blocked the account. "

"I have been insured with Golden Rule for 19.5 years. All preventive care is out of pocket. The deductible / premium when I purchaes the policy was 500 per year/ 43.50 per month. Now the deductible is 10000 per year and the premium is 256.00 per month. They have never paid a claim and Golden Rule sent me a letter stating that they were terminating my coverage and a thank you for your past business. when I called to ask why the rep. informed me that they no longer sell policies in my state. Actually they stopped selling them in 1995 and grandfathered the existing poliies. Now that they are accountable under the health care reform I suppose they rather cancell policies than actually PAY for health care coverage. "

"As far as covering medications Golden Rule wildly ranges on what medications it will cover from generic to name brand run of the mill to exotic. As an example my policy covers the generic Ambien with my payment being 15. It would cost me 120 for the generic Ambien CR 2.5 mg more than the generic Ambien. Id hate to find out what serious medications would cost me with this ridiculous company. Dropping. "

After going to my first visit I find out that NOTHING is covered except walking into the office. Everything else is COMPLETELY up to me to pay -god forbid you actually need the doctor to talk to you or run any tests."

"Not only did this company weasel out of paying for claims, but when I canceled my coverage through their automated system, they continued to charge me for THREE months past the cancellation date. And continued to give me a hard time about canceling when I called back to report the problem. They are refusing to refund the money they took from my bank account although those charges are for the months after my policy was canceled. Fraud at its best."

Told me it would $93.00 a month but after review they upped it to $140!!! I am a very healthy, fit person with very few claims through out my life. Im 31 years old, non smoker, athletic. They said due to medical history a rate up has been added! Scam! Suck you in with a low number and rate up your account!!! Stay away!"

"The people that I consulted with before turning in my application told me that because I am young and happy I would have no problem obtaining health insurance. They were very wrong when the application process took over 2 months and my application was denied because the underwriters declared that there was not enough information to accept the application. This is after I confirmed with my physician that the entire medical record was provided and a letter was written explaining what information was "missing." This is not a customer friendly company."

"The insurance card is very confusing and will cause you considerable trouble. On the front of the card it has United Healthcare and that is where a lot of places will send your claim. However, it has to be sent to the Golden Rule address on the back of the card. So we had to call hospitals and doctors to resubmit because we kept getting bills that said we had no insurance. Also, this happened even when we told them to make sure they send it to Golden Rule address. I feel that this is a scam to get out of paying bills. They think people will get tired of the hassle of resubmitting and just pay the bill (which I have done a few times). We cancelled our policy after one year with them and I do not recommend this insurance company at all. "

"We bought this policy because it was very affordable, but it has increased EVERY 6 months anywhere from $50-$70. Always the same letter...increased costs...nothing to do with your claims...increased use and higher charges..new technology blah blah blah! It is a high deductible plan (5000!), so we basically pay for any appts or meds we need. It is very upsetting to keep getting these letters! We were able to find alternate insurance for the kids and now my premium is as much for me and my husband as it was for the WHOLE FAMILY! Time to move on and stary this application process over again with a new company..."

"Be prepared to fight for months about any benefit your policy might claim to include. These guys deny anything and everything they can and they need very little justification to do so. I was in an extremely violent car crash that has left me (at least) temporarily disabled - the emt's at the scene refused to take me to a hospital that I knew to be in-network due to the nature of the accident and I ended up in the only true trauma-center in my city...long story short, that hospital was not in-network and as a result, my surgery and everything associated with my recovery has been initially refused - which means a fight, resubmission, etc. All of this equals massive stress - just what someone who cannot work, has a 4-month old child, and may never walk again needs, right? If you've had a good experience with this company, great for you, but maybe you should check out the comments from the 60+% of their dissatisfied clients. Clearly, you were lucky. Avoid Golden Rule like the black death, which they do NOT cover, by the way."

"My Golden Rule premium was so high I started searching for another HSA policy. I got a quote for another Golden Rule policy from an insurance broker that was MUCH lower than my current GR policy premium. However, Golden Rule refused to process my application because I have a current GR policy. According to GR, I'm stuck with paying 360% more (this is not an exaggeration!) because they won't let me have their other cheaper policy. When I said to their rep that it didn't make sense that they would rather lose me as a customer than make an exception, she essentially said, "yes." "

"They solicited my business, and as we are currently in an outrageously expensive risk pool, I considered it, asking, "Is there any point in even making an application, with the history of cancer." The agent replied that guidelines said symptom-free for two years with that cancer was acceptable. After an arduous application process, in which they tried to hide the fact of a $3/month add-on charge. They application comes back with only the non-cancer spouse approved. NO information on what the individual premium would be, and news of yet another add-on charge of $10/month for billing. These guys are crooks. The whole industry is rotten to the core."

"Golden Rule have unfairly cancelled our 5 month baby Sasha's insurance due to a 'pre-exisiting condition' that we knew nothing about when we applied and has no known affects on her health but may (very small chance) affect her own offspring. As a result of this cancellation we cannot get health insurance from any insurance company!! My perfectly healthy daughter cannot now get any insurance at all...this is nothing short of criminal, how any company or government can inflict this on our babies is just unthinkable. We are now faced with paying bills that we thought we were insured for and had paid the premium on and a daughter who at a very vunerable time in her life is uninsurable...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!"

"GMAC/Homesite received a check from my escrow account on 12-24-08 - then cancelled me in 2/09. While I'm still trying to get the proof from my mortgage company/escrow account, they send a refund check for my earthquake account (which was part of the escrow payment). They will not process or reinstate my coverages until I send them proof of the payment. And say I must re-apply for coverage with them and pay again. Every year, they either bill the wrong mortgage company or say they haven't received the payment. No one should ever apply with this company!"

"I have a high-deductible health insurance policy with this company. I live in a rural area, where health care providers and costs are uniform over 100's of square miles. I moved to a new zip code 4 months ago. However, my caregivers, the hospitals I use, and all other aspects of my health care remained the same. Nevertheless, they used this as a pretext to raise my premium by by 18% and gleefully told me that they can raise my rates even if I move across the street, if it puts me in a new zipcode. They do not have any mechanism for internal review of this. So I will contact my state insurance commissioner about why laws allow such capricious approaches to defining insurance risks. "

I can't imagine what a hassle it must be to actually file a claim with Golder Rule.I would be faced with a mountain of head aches instead of getting the care that I would need."

"Low balls initial premium and after 1 year starts raising it every 6 mos about 15%. I had them for a few years about than went on the employer plan. Changed employers and had to get my own coverage again so I went with Golden again. Guess what, the quote was nearly the same amount as when I started with them years earlier and now it's back up to the amount it was when I left them. It's all a gimmick and all the others probably do the same thing, we're at their mercy and the government allows the practice to continue."

"We have a high deductable at $10,000 and Golden Rule to pay 100% after that. We participate in a HSA which we pay into each month. We used the money out of the HSA bank to pay for regular doctor visits and prescriptions. We never thought we'd ever meet the deductible. Then our daughter of 5 years old was diagnosed with Leukemia. CANCER! We have met the deductible two years so far and I expect to meet it probably another two. Golden Rule has paid every claim after the deductible 100% as the claim states. They cover EVERYTHING from doctor visits to prescriptions. Since one parent is also on the policy, the deductible is already met, that medical coverage is taken care of as well. This has been one heck of a way to experience what having insurance means. I would also like to note that we know other families with children with cancer who have 80/20 plans. They are paying way more than $10,000 a year in medical bills! Also, since the hospital is aware of our high deductible they were gracious enough to discount their charges. I highly recommend Golden Rule to anyone who does not have coverage or is self-employed. I can't say enough about this health insurance. I am proud to pay it every month because in our situation, they have been wonderful. They take care of claims as stated and we have never been questioned. by the way, our daughter is in remission doing well through chemo and the rest of her treatment. God is awesome! Good luck to you."

"This is for all the people out there that do not know what a deductable is. Get the lowest possible deductable on any insurance that you buy, otherwise you are throwing your money away. Put the $250 per month in a savings account instead and pay the discounted medical bills if and when you get them. Do the math, Stiches while insured will run about $850. If your deductable is $2500, you will owe $850. Broken leg $1800, you will pay $1800. If you do not have insurance, most hospitals have a discounted rate program that will reduce the bill by 30% - 40%, unless you are rich and do not get approved. How often do you get stiches or break a leg? Once every 5 years? 5 years of saving $250 per month for medical emergencies will give you at least $15,000 in the bank. That will pay for 2 arms, 2 legs, and a stich job. I only have insurance because I have a high risk job and my premium is only $185 per month with a $750 Deductable."

"The policy I have has a $5000 deductable and after that everything is covered 100%. I met my deductible once and the policy paid all in excess of the 5000 without question...prescriptions, doctors, hospital. The only problem is the premium has gotten to be $600 a month for just me. I'll be shopping for a new policy this month. "

"Golden Rule paid for bypass surgery. They handled my claims according to their policy benefits. I was pleased with their payments. Other complainers either didn't understand their policies and/or in some cases appeared to misrepresent the facts. Golden Rule in my experience lives up to their namesake. Only complaint is concerning their premium rates which do rise higher than perhaps normal after first couple years. "

"They cover NOTHING!! You have ridiculous deductibles to meet and then even after you meet them you still have to pay full price for things. My prescription is not covered unless it's over $60 (which it is $57.99) so they pay nothing. If for some reason something happens and you need a different prescription that you did not need when signing up they will not cover it. It's a joke. I would never reccomend them to anyone!"

"This company is a joke. They are liars and thieves. They have raised my premium 100% in three years with the excuse of "in order to provide excellent health care" There coverage is little to nonexistent. I have been forced into a policy with a 3000 deductible which is nearly impossible to reach since they don't deduct from the deductible many out of pocket expenses that that the insured pays. Now as far as customer service goes. Expect to get treated like dirt after you have waited on their toll number for 20 minutes since the thousands of dollars policy holders pay them each year does not entitle them to contact customer service toll free."

"For those seeking HIGH DEDUCTIBLE PLANS: beware! "PLAN 100" for FAMILY is a scam! You will never be able to meet your deductible unless 2 of the members of your family pay the deductible at the same time (same year). For example: if you are severely injured and pay well over your deductible you will still not be covered, because another member of your family has to meet his/her deductible, too!!?? Basically unless you and another member of your family are injured at the same time and fully pay the entire amount of the deductible together, no one is covered... Their policy is very tricky and it's not clearly stated anywhere. I was lucky to find out that by asking them a lot of questions at the time of my application was submitted. Another point: although I chose to withdraw my application same day it was submitted they still are going to charge me without my formal approval for the first month, and only then refund me with a check... Another thing is: Mandatory participation in FACT, which is $3 a month subscription for a membership in a company that specialises on discounts and gives you some sort of discounts on eye and dental care (which I wouldn't need). In overall this all looks pretty bad to me... Considering that PLAN 100 is a very popular plan I can only hope those poor victims will find out about this before they spend 10th of thousands of dollars..."
