"Humana Medicare Advantage Medicare Part C or Humana Gold Plan is a waste of time, money, and patience. This company does not even deserve a single star and if it were possible to give it a quarter star, I would. Do Not Use This Company no matter how desperate you may be for a Medicare replacement plan. My recently deceased mother had a contract with Humana's Medicare Advantage Medicare Part C Plan. Ever since her death, they have been denying every claim submitted to them for every possible and impossible reason they can find--duplicate claim on the very first claim submission, not a covered service inpatient stay, outpatient radiology services, etc. , other insurance there is none, not a contracted provider provider says he's contracted, hospice not for the dates of service involved, missing information, etc. On top of that, several previously paid providers contacted me demanding payment in full for claims that had been previously paid by Humana because after my mother's death Humana went back to them and demanded the providers refund their Humana payments claiming those claims had been paid in error. Calling the company's 800 number resulted in my being on the receiving end of being hung up on, told they ...could only talk to the member despite the member being deceased, could not talk to me without a court order does not exist, etc. They also have copies of every legal document I have showing I am the legally authorized contact person. My mother paid those premiums faithfully and on time every single month so making this behavior beyond reprehensible. At this point, total billed charges are unknown but I am currently aware of bills from multiple providers totalling more than 45,000.00 and expect more to crawl out of the woodwork as this drags on."

"Every time I get a new prescription, Humana Health Care of Texas always has to ask the doctor questions which prolongs the filling of the medicine. Last time this happen with my daughter having an allergic reaction and NEEDED the medicine. I called them and they said they wanted to question the doctor if this medicine was right for the illness. So rediculas they want to play doctor remotely without seeing a patient. I ended up buying the prescription outright for 13.00 Worst insurance Ive ever had in my life and do not recommend."

"Two times, I have had prescriptions that were in the 800.00 range. Both times before filling these scripts, both t I've called Humana to see if they would reimburse me if I paid out of pocket. Both times, I was told by the most incredibly inept representatves that if I paid out of pocket, i would be reimbursed 75 % because I had tried all other medications for the ailments that I had, and because of that, I would be reimbursed. The first prescription took me 4 months to get reimbursed because Humana Managers would come up with some lame excuse why they wouldn't reimburse me. I'm now battling the second prescription that cost almost 900.00, which I called Humana first and of course was told since it was the last medication to try for ailment, I would be reimbursed 75 %. That was the beginning of April, almost 2 months ago . Now a Humana manager is saying the medication is not approved by the F.D.A.. I showed my pharmacist the email saying this. He laughed and said if iwasnt approved by the F.D.A. he couldn't dispense it. It is truly pathetic, criminal and in this case, according to the governing board of insurance companies, illegal. They are investigating Humana cause I have all e emails with this bogus claim. Don't worry, I'll get my reimbursement. You just have to send All your evidence to the governing board of insurance and they'll jump right on it. I was told by a very high ranking member of this board that Humana is BY FAR , THE WORSE INSURANCE COMPANY WHEN IT COMES TO LIES AND DECEPTION.. they just hope you give up and they won't have to pay.They are awful, spiteful, criminals who should not have a licence to sell insurance. Unfortunately, they are the only insurance company that my job offers. You'd do better dying in a cold, wet drain then to have Humana as your insurance company."

"Most of humana's employees are incompetent liars. I use my old cellphone to record all conversations with them. They will suddenly become more helpful when you tell them that you have recorded all communications with them. It's the only way to fight back for the illegal and unethical treatment. I have been through 2 evil health insurance companies and I figure it's time to let a new one screw me over. Medicareless doesn't care and makes it difficult to file complaints."

"I had a physical done in December. I got medicare because of a kidney transplant in October a few months before. Medicare wouldn't pay for my physical because it wasn't their special physical you are suppose to have as your first one with Medicare. NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS. Since Medicare didn't pay for it Humana should have. They refuse to because Medicare should of. I explained to them that I didn't get the service that Medicare pays for. I am still dealing with it almost a year later. They are giving me the run around for 300. And of course I have already paid my drs office for it because they were going to turn it into collections. They ask for information from Medicare and they want me to appeal it and everything I give them is not what they needed or what will work for them. So they are just giving me the run around because they don't want to pay for it. NEVER GET HUMANA"

"Ridiculous Denied legitimate claims for treatment had to file appeal - no communication from the on this. Dr listed as in network on their site then they try to say he is not. Denied coverage on MRI Scan even after they preauthorized it. Customer service reps. uninformed and can't even answer the most simple of questions without having to put on hold for extended times. Then when transfering to another dept. the phone system immediately cuts you off and recorded message saying transfer did not go thru , hang up and dial again Total BS Avoid this company if at all possible"

"It took 5 weeks to get information for a specific test and all of their in network providers for it are hospitals so that means a higher copay. The customer service is laughable, they are ignorant of the benefits. Phone connection is horrible and the website chat offers nothing. The only way to get anywhere is to contact the corporate office by email so you have written proof. The stress from trying to deal with them is enough to make you sick. They also ignore questions and everyone one you contact gives a different answer. That company is evil in my opinion."

"The company wants to tell YOU when they will refill your prescriptions. Ive got prescriptions come to me broken pills, broken to the point to where they are powder. You call to tell them and they complain. This has happened again and I hope others see this. I need the complaint dept but dont have the number."

"Uninformed staff. Denial for services which are clearly covered under the Plan Provisions. Delayed attention to 72 hour appeals to their Denials. Hours on the telephone more than a dozen people in transfers and consequent hang-ups or loss of connection during transfers. No major Case management. There is no direct number or name available to deal with and no one knows who last spoke with a client in a particular matter because no Humana Staff is required to electronically sign their entries. Having worked for Humana, I know that all electronic entries are signed through a 3-4 ID number which identifies the person making the entry. Humana is even frowned on by HCA Hospitals here in Las Vegas. Humana is a Healthy person's insurance which is expensive I suggest HMOs are more reliable than Humana any of Humana's Plans yes we will change as soon as this drama ends and we have an outcome negative---litigation will follow... positive,. Let us get the heck away from this Outfit because the next time they may well kill us. I can maneuver around in the Healthcare world. I shudder to think what someone without this ability or an aged person who did not have anyone to battle with these incompetent Humana employees. No this 'Humana Insurance Company is a nightmare'... "This is the worst health insurance in America. Do not ever sign yourself or a loved one up for this insurance. It should be ILLEGAL what they do to their customers. They deny payment on almost everything. They kick very sick people out of the hospital or skilled care before they are able to care for themselves. They are in my opinion the DEVIL"

"They tell you lie after lie. Tell you that u can disenroll from plan within 7 days but they just substitute a different policy when you do. Even called disenrollment center numberto make policy was not enrolled, given confirmation number and then called back because thought about first policy that I canceled the day after it was issued spoke with lady whose name did not give me but I called to make sure that the policy was no good and that I had a disenrollment from both policies. Well lady reassured me of disenrollment from both policies but can't go back to medicare yet without bunches of more head aches and had surgery scheduled but none of that matters cause humana gotta me too. Don't talk to No One about insurance thru Humana Stay far far away."

"I contacted Humana and asked if my doctor was in their network. They said yes, and even their online system said yes. I went to my doctor...they said no. So now I am stuck with insurance I am not going to use for the rest of the year. I can't afford to see a doctor off network because I am paying an amazing amount of money to no doctors in network. Humana is a horrible joke."

"Hard to get an ok for treatment like therapy, you call a number they put you on hold and you never talk to same people. We got the hmo plan big mistake we did not change this year because of preexisting condition. Guess what without notice our rates went up 400.00 a month and we r now paying 1200.00 a month for horrible insurance. They loose claims on purpose to drive you nuts. Then you cannot change because it is not in the open enrollment time. Why don't they make health insurance like homeowners ect so that if you don't like them you can change to something else. It makes sense to do it that way so it would open up competition not only for customer service, but for rates too. RIDICULOOUS stupid company HUMANA........if I can I would love to SUE You>>"

"They are the worst company, I have ever dealt with. They have one "Customer Service" telephone, which is terrible, the staff or phone help is incompitenet, if you are lucky, will be transfered at least 3 to 4 times, and still not get an answer to your question. There web site is VERY unfriendly, I am a senior, and things are gettting somewhat difficult for me, the part D coverage is terible, and on top of it all, truly you will get close to 75 pounds of mail from them, pages, and pages, of un-understandable stuff, and no help, STAY AWAY from Humana, especialy if you are a senior, with no one to help you. VERY BAD COMPANY, the only thing the customer service staff can say is, " I'm sorry " " I'm sorry " " I'm sorry " " I'm sorry " " I'm sorry "..............."

"They lied to me that my plan will not change in 2016 if I keep paying increased premiums $650.00. I took my kids for dental cleaning and oral exam and what a surprise - I got a bill for over $300 because preventive dental care is no longer covered by the plan... It's outrageous"

"Rude, very hard to get answers to your questions, took me over a week to register "my humana" account. They put you on hold and you sit forever, sometimes you are cutoff before anyone ever answers. Haven't filed a claim yet but already dreading it, from the many negative comments I have read online about how they treat their customers. Can only hope and pray for a better service than those poor people have had."

"They actually credited my Payment to another subscriber with a similar name. They would never listen to me when I called. They thought I was on Medicare and urged me to cancel my insurance with them and when I filed a claim they refused to pay it. They refused to believe that I was not on Medicare. They steadfastly refused to refund my payment that they took out twice and gave to the guy on medicare and when I proved that they took the money they fused to issue a cheek until they found where they put the money, I told them to look at the medicare supplement account of the other guy withe the similar name and they blew me offthat is exactly where they put the money. They finally issued a refund check to me but they sent it to the guy on medicare even after I told them my correct address more times than I care to remember. After over 80 hours on the phone and 5 months elapsed time, I received a check from Humana. They aren't fit to insure hamsters, much less people. They do not listen, nor do they care. Avoid them like the plague."

"I cancelled my policy the beginning of March with Human / Marketplace and you deducted money from my account and continued billing me for months. You are "REFUSING" to refund my money. "I had a Medicare Advantage plan with Humana. I moved from Florida to Illinois. They were not helpful at all with the process. I almost could not get any other insurance because Humana would not cooperate. They are a bunch of idiots. I would never recommend them to ANYONE EVER"

"Humana quoted individual and family deductible on my policy. Usually once a family member meets the individual deductible they start paying benefits. On mine they said 1 family member had to meet the family deductible I have looked and looked and can't find that on any coverages they are selling Stay away from Humana They don't pay claims"

"Humana told me that my Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy is my primary carrier in fact my BC/BS policy expired on Jan. 31 2014. They continue to deny my claims even they know they are my primary health insurance carrier. They collect their premium but deny my claims. I this is tantamount to fraud on their part."

"I have Humana for dental only. They denied a claim AFTER they pre-approved it. I appealed they admitted they were at fault but refused to pay anyway. They refuse to transfer you to anybody who can help. They made me fill out the same forms multiple times as they were "misplaced." They seem to have incentives to deny legitimate claims. Would not recommend them for anything."

"I have Humana Gold Plan I was in a major auto accident on April 8 I transferred to Fort Worth area and took Humana Gold Plus as my insurance plan I have a wonderful primary care doctor but They have been trying for the last 2 1/2 to three months to send me to a surgeon They have set appointments up which I have gone on only to find out they do not take Humana Gold plan Humana sent me up with a registered nurse Caseworker to help me She said I need medical attention right away She has not been able to help me find a surgeon in my area that takes Humana Gold plus plan I called the servicemembers number Only to been given a list of doctors for me to call to make an appointment with And these doctors do not take the insurance plan they're not general surgeon there gynecologist Humana tells me to turn it over to the doctors for them to find me a surgeon They are frustrated because the provider list that they have they do not take Humana insurance I have tried to talk to Humana membership services about this only to get more frustrated with no help I am in need of medical attention and no way insight through Humana to get it This company does not care about its members "

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had complications from the surgeries. Humana started sending me letters reviewing each claim and denying them. So not only I'm i dealing with a major health issue I am having to fight with Humana to get them to pay for the medical bills. This is a horrible insurance company."

"Even though providers which supposedly accept Humana are listed on the Humana website it turns out that most of them don't. A large amount of time is spent phoning individual providers/practitioners and asking if they accept Humana with the majority in my area Austin TX not accepting it. Some companies have said that they are not allowed to accept Humana in Texas period."

"We were lied to by the agent. Totally misrepresented - told we could see our doctors as they are in network. Wrong they are not in the PCP's network. I fell and hurt my knee-PCP office would not make me an urgent appt. I got terribly sick with a sinus infection-PCP office would not make an appt because I had not been seen by this doc yet. Doc won't refer me for knee injury she wants to shoot me up with cortisone - NO WAY I have no diagnosis and she doesn't have xray vision. I need to see my cardiologist she told me to wait as my diabetes is out of control. Wait??? I need other exams - she turned my requests conveniently around into "wait" - I don't see her again till Sept. I can't wait. Someone told me ONLY sign up for an HMO if you are healthy and pray you don't get ill. I think that we are thought of as expendable - which is a horrific way to feel as we age. She put me on a combo of diabetic meds and I researched them - warning increased chance of heart attack and stroke. HIGH increase. I stopped one of them. So now I am back to square one making dietary changes for my diabetes can't exercise knee is all screwed up. I call them Un-Humana Gold Plus HMO - there is no one to talk to no one to help us. We are being held hostage by an insurance co that doesn't care about anything but money."

"Humana told my pharmacy that I can only take half of my medication prescribed by my doctor. Apparently it is fun practicing medicine without a license.Also their communication center is absolutely horrible. After waiting a week for their answer on a very specific question I got the following answer I did not make any changes to this whatsoever Dear insert member name Thank you for your recent inquiry submitted through the Humana Message Center.Thank you for contacting Humana to receive guidance when you need it most. If you have further questions please continue to use the Message Center or call our Customer Service Number on the back of your member ID card. We are available Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST. CCS NamePurely a copy and paste job where they did not even bothered to fill in my name or the answerer's name. Also could one get any more generic by not answering anything at all?I'm amazed by the incompetence. I would not recommend it to even my most bitter enemy."

"Last year I had 2 ER and 1 urgent care visit related to kidney stones. I have a 5000 deductible of which I paid in full while Humana covered te rest plain and simple. But this year after Obama care hit I've had nothing but problems both with billing and claims. I chose this insurance because of its maternity coverage which I'm told is only covered in my state of CO. Many claims including routine labs at various months of pregnancy have been denied. Customer service can only tell me these claims were denied because they were given the wrong codes from the provider. These codes are standard and universal across the board with OB providers. They will find any reason not to pay. Billing has been an even bigger nightmare...double drafted my checking account last month admitted their mistake and refunded me half within 10 days. I called the day before this months draft confirming the amount to be drafted and was promised what happened last month would not happen again. Was alerted by my bank today that they did in fact double draft agin causing my checking account to overdraft resulting in 105.00 in fees. I'm 6 weeks away from delivery and maternity leave. My broker has said that in 15 years of practice he's never seen such gross incompetence and they are by far the rosy insurance company to del with. Wish I was warned before I accepted the policy. Stay far away and never allow auto withdrawl from your account. It gives them too much control. "

"Re Humana Gold Plus HMO-went to my PCP and the PCP recommend lab work and sent my steps down the hall to lab at the her office. Lab was out of network and claim denied. I trusted the PCP to direct me in network since it is a HMO. Now I owe the entire bill. I should have stayed with Medicare.These doctor's are cheating people out of covered charges by sending them to offices that they have connections with. It should be illegal."

"Was told in November 2013 that I could shift policy principal to my wife in February 2014. Confirmed in December 2013 sent transfer request in mid January 2014 as directed. Told on Feb 3 2014 that they changed their policy in December and would not transfer principal after 12/31/13 and that their staff was misinformed to tell me otherwise. They took payment out of my bank account for February and I cancelled policy. Still waiting for refund of February. I call them every 2 to 3 days and get plenty of apologies and re-application for refund. Humana is the worst company of any kind that I have ever dealt with in 40 years. They are not credible. They will not put anything in writing and they will not connect you to a supervisor they're always busy or unavailable. "

"I have Humana Federal Advantage for my dental coverage. The plan was great for my family when we lived in Washington DC but now that we live in South Carolina it has turned in to a problem. Every time I call Humana to verify that a dentist on their website of participating providers is indeed participating/preferred they give me and the dental practice a different answer. I have actually voice recorded these conversations where the same person gives me contradictory answers in the same conversation. Call and speak to another Humana rep and I got yet another answer. Finally I asked for an answer in writing "is doctor 'A' a preferred provider or not." and Humana refused to give me the answer in writing or provide me with a list of names in writing of which dentists I could go to. Of course before any of this happened all five of my family members had already started a treatment plan since Humana and the dentist both said they were participating but now I get to wait and see what happens next with my claims. What a JOKE. Human won't put it in writing b/c they have no intention of standing by their word."

"until this year Humana Gold took very good care of me as far as what the doctors asked for until I went to fill my oxycodone and no pharmency would fill the script. Humana refused to pay there part as they did last year.This is a tier 3 drug and I had to pay 40.00 dollars a month were now I had to pay 600.00. I am a 100% disabled veteran with little income"

"Best is customer service. I've had need to call twice. Both times my problem was resolved while on the phone call. Agent is always cheerful helpful.Had heart surgery. When I went to pay off my portion of hospital bill the cashier told me she wished she had my insurance b/c it paid almost everything."

"Doctors that were "in network" one year were not the next and I had to pay 50% of costs. The only hospital on Whidbey Island was "out of network"Drugs that I had to pay for were not tallied into my costs when Humana sent out the monthly totals for payments. I was denied coverage for a drug even though they had sent me a letter agreeing to coverage. Their explanation was so convoluted and dishonest I gave up.How they could be rated at 86% is beyond me."

"submitted 5 claims and spoke with rep at customer service 5 times. said I had primary insurance thru another company. I retired and took medicare thru Humana on 3/1/13. I have had no insurance except Humana since 5/31/13 and all of my claims have been after this date and they are still saying they are not primary. Can never get a person in charge and they simply will not pay. I have filed a complaint with Medicare insurance commission and Sen.l Lindsey Graham. This is simply medicare fraud by a private company. They take your money but give NOTHING in return DO NOT USE"

"Humana Gold Plus HMO Is the most troublesome health insurance co. that I have ever delt with . They require pre-autherizations for absolutly everything including many Rx refils and have denied payment for them. I am being forced to to without medications or chance buying them "on the street" Meds that I have taken for years. They have no regard for patients. I am considering a class action or personal law suit and would love to make contact with others whom Humana is abusing including doctors who hate trying to work with them. Humana dares to disregard licenced physicisions recomended treatement. I believe it borders on criminal action."

"They can't even communicate with their own people I called to say I had tried to send an email and their server failed to respond 12 times causing me to be kicked off the site. Wanted to email because the last time I followed their instructions over the phone I spent 9 months fighting the resuting denial. When I called to report the website problem - the "customer service" person said he couldn't contact people in other departments to tell them to fix the website - but he could connect me to them so I could do it. "I have humana insurance through my place of employment and have had nothing but problems. i had gallbladder surgery and the claim was denied because they said the hospitalist that i was seen by in the hospital was out of network. WHAT? even though they say they know its beyond your control they still make you fight for it and it takes months of calls and appeals they also are supposed to pay 100% of preventative exams such as mammograms and pap smears but when i went to have a pap smear they said the lab that it was sent to was out of network and denied payment and it would have to be appealed. "My biggest concern with Humana is the fact that they are cutting reimubursement rates to their providers. Cutting the rates of those who care for us leave us with less educated less experienced providers to choose from. "Claims process was absurd. Frontline staff immediately denied and the appeal process was a nightmare. They never let you get past the front line staff to see or talk to someone that can make a call. Took me 1 year and countless days of calling to finally win out. After they paid it out a year late they put my account on hold a year later based on the same claim they said they should not have paid. I have to stay with them because I am a State employee and they are in the States pocket KY. Bottom Line Read the reviews and avoid at all costs. "Humana is cutting back on all its Medicare benefits for those enrolled with Humana HMO. They used to have about five dermatologists MD and now they have only one about twenty miles away and its a Physicians Assistant and it takes about two months to get an appointment. "Humana will use every excuse from pre existing condition to failure to receive pre authorization to deny claims. I have never in my whole life been so aggrivated with any one company, I feel my full time job now is to call Humana daily to get another claim paid. Most recent pre authorized for Cardiac Cath was admitted, now they say they will only pay half because no in patient authorization was requested. Stay away if you can, if you cannot, make sure of all authorizations for procedures before having them. All calls to them should be recorded, not only in writing but by way of voice recorder, each rep will tell you something different, without the voice record you could have no recourse."

"My employer offers Humana as our provider for health ins. I had a 30 day waiting period before benefits kicked in. "My wife a very healthy person had an OB/GYN infection 10 days after we got this policy; her doctor gave her an antibiotic resulting in an ill reaction to a medication given to her (Levaquin). Her condition went from bad to worse very quickly. Humana thinks we lied on our application so they did a health review. She has been seeing the same doctor for 15 years. It would take a 6th grader 10 minutes to determine her state of health but 6 months later Humana decided she is healthy. But is still looking for preexisting conditions, meanwhile the bills are due. As you may know today’s medical insurance is filled with Co-Pays, In Network Deductibles, Out of Network Deductibles, Pharmaceutical Deductibles and Co-Pays and so on and so forth resulting in a great deal of money we must pay many people. We have paid $6000 a year for insurance premiums, $4000 in deductibles, $1600 for the Ambulance, $250 for (Metronidazole and Levaquin) that we threw away and on and on...... and now I have to pay what Humana said they would pay. This is a piss poor business decision on Humana’s part, they collect $6000 annually in premiums and won’t pay the final $4500 for a very healthy family that had an allergic reaction to a medication and today I stopped premiums to them and applied to another insurance company. Now I ask, what is the difference between the horror stories we have with Health Insurance Companies and the horror stories we here form socialized medicine countries. There the Government sends you home to die here insurances companies send you home to die. Up until now I have not been an advocate of Obama care but Humana has changed my mind! "

"Had a Humana HMO and it was great. Hardly paid anything out of pocket at all, other than my copay. Drug benefits are not the best, but still a good value. Never had any trouble with any claims. Only reason we dropped Humana was due to a ridiculous price increase this year. Wife stayed the same, but my premium jumped by over $6,000 for the year. Simply outrageous. Lost a very satisfied customer over the hike."

"I have Humana as my medicare provider. I have not experienced any problems whatso ever. I went to this site to check out regular helth insurance for my wife who is not yet 65 and is presently insured with BCBS. BCBS sent us a letter that they were raising her rate in June by 18% and so we are now shopping for more affordable coverage. I was surprized to see so many people who took this survey who were dipleased with Humana. Maybe they are OK for Medicare but suck for regular health insurance. "I must agree with the others that Humana (I'm in Illinois) is very difficult. They truly will do whatever they can to not pay a claim, or at least to hold up payment of a claim. I believe they intentionally make it very difficult! At this point, I am hardly surprised by anything they pull. I am an employer and they dropped our coverage because they didn't receive the check that we mailed. They didn't even notify us that they were dropping us. (Actually, they did. They mailed out a letter saying they hadn't received our payment and dropped us before we even received the letter. That's just the way they are.) I have no problem getting through to a live person b/c I skip all the prompts, and the people I speak with are very friendly. As one employee puts it "Too friendly. Like it's all part of their game." But it still doesn't make up for the basic way they do business, or the fact that the reps generally can't explain why they've denied a claim or done something else inexplicable. I definitely would not recommend them."

"Humana is the WORST insurance company I have ever dealt with. I have dealt with many as I used work as a representative in a hospital and used to call for authorization for many companies. My husband has horrible knees and has had one surgery last year and one coming up this week. Also in the last year my daughter had to have surgery on her hip. With the 3 surgeries, they had to each have an MRI. All 3 MRI's had to get authorization and took at least 3 weeks for authorization. While my daughter's surgery was authorized, the brace that was required would take 10 days. She had to have the brace for immediately after surgery and would not be authorized in time, even though they could look and see she was having surgery. This was a 3 month processes to get her MRI and surgery scheduled. I just called them for a perscription override and they denied it for no reason. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. They are rude and do not in anyway respond to any complaints. Their review process is a joke. The make it almost impossible to file a complaint. For your sake, do not go with this company. If you are an HR administrator who makes decisions, do not use Humana. Your employees may never forgive you. I hope this review adds to your site and gets people to avoid this company. I see their adds about Medicare prescription plan and I want to throw something at the TV. I hope no senior is coned into their plans. "

"Humana seemingly looks for any reason, even if bogus, to deny coverage. After seeing a podiatrist, Humana twice denied my claim, alleging that the podiatrist was not in their PPO network, even though their representatives twice admitted on the telephone that the physician was in their network and they could not themselves account for their company's denial of my claim. Finally, after months of persistence, much run-around and many broken promises of corrective action, Humana finally paid the claim. More recently, Humana denied coverage of an orthopedic visit because they deemed the "most likely" cause of the condition diagnosed by the physician to fall within the terms of a vague exclusionary rider. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! I cannot disrecommend Humana health care insurance strongly enough. "

"Our family switched to a High Deductible Health Plan with Humana after premiums on a Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) PPO became too expensive. Our premiums are now around $400/month for a family of four vs. $1200/month with BCBS. We are now able to put the savings from our premiums into a Health Savings Account that we utilize for payment of medical expenses. Even if we hit our $5350 deductible each year, we are still saving money. And Humana has been great to deal with. They are timely and accurate in their processing. Their website is user friendly and I have had no issues. The main problem has been the lack of understanding of HDHP's on the doctor's administrative side. Typically, I end up underpaying after an office visit and then receive a bill in the mail once the claim is filed. Oh well, just leaves the money in my pocket longer I guess! "

"Humana inherited my Medicare Advantage policy from the defunct MD Medicare Choice. Thery informed me that all the terms of contract with MD Medicare Choice policy will be enforced. But to the contrary, when I went to a network specialist, they demanded referral by my PCP and also a $35 co-pay. MD Medicare Choice policy allowed me to self-refer to sp[ecialists on network, and the specialst copay was $20. I believe that Humana is going to collect at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in this additional $15 copay, cvontrary to their agreement, and someone should bring a class-action against them!"

"I had an over $20K surgery pre-approved and everything got paid and processed quickly and I was just out my $1K co-pay. The prescription coverage is a little whacky, but luckily I don't take a lot of meds. I think with any insurance company your experience will depend on many factors. I have the national open POS plan paid 100% through my work. I've never had to get a referral and have not had any claim denied (yet). Sadly they are raising our rates and my company is thinking of switching. If so, it would be the 3rd insurance company in the 3 years since I've been here, which shows how messed up healthcare for small businesses is."

"I put my pregnant wife on the insurance that my company offers. She did have health insurance prior, so there is no lapse in coverage. When we switched her over, we made sure she can still see her OB/GYN. The rep on the phone told her that she wouldn't need the referral. She's almost due and now they're saying that her OB/GYN can't see her without a referral. To top it off, the morons at Humana changed my PCP to some other A** C**K that I didn't ask for. The only thing Humana does right is take people's money."

"With many claims still being rejected by Humana especially the one since January 2007 with my daughter's visit, it came to a point that they rejected a claim from a doctor I visited since last year who was/is in humana's network but humana says "no" while humana's website clearly shows the doctor is in. They are coming up with every possible reason to reject claims. It seems like they just simply rejects anything and make their customers to call in. Then, thet start looking into issues why they rejected. They rejected pretty much every blood tests I had and etc."

"Humana runs a complete racket on policy holders. They refuse to cover bloodwork that is done WITHIN NETWORK. They claim to give discounts for out-of-network providers, but they do not. Majority of the agents that work at the call center try to fake you into thinking that they care about you, but all they care about is bleeding you dry. Not only this, but I recently found out that Humana has found a way to make my deductible renew TWICE A YEAR! If this isn't illegal I don't know what is. I dread calling the call center for anything because I know I'm just going to end up being angry and disgusted. Do yourself a favor--if you are thinking about Humana and have a choice (I do not b/c it is the only plan offered where I work and I am not married), CHOOSE ANOTHER OPTION. Humana will rob you blind; the ex-president herself quit the company because they reward agents who find the best way to screw their loyal clients out of thousands of dollars. "

"Humana is the worst insurance company I have had to deal with!!! My son had surgery, that was pre-approved, and after the fact, was later denied by Humana. They are not concerned with their policy holders, just emphasis on their bottom line. "

"I had major surgery at a Major Teaching Hospital in Chicago. I stayed used all Net-Work Providers. The claims were paid according to Plan Benefit Document in a very timely manner. Then, after I got home, a Nurse Case Manager called me to make sure I had everything I need. She was so nice and was very informative abouot the Programs I didn't know I could use, like help with lossing weight or having my own PErsonal Nurse to call. They were great to me. "

"Humana has twice take more money from my bank account than was authorized (by me). 4 times in the past year I made a payment online, and recieved a verification # only to later hear (from Humana) that no payment was recieved and no record of the verification # exists. Luckily, I have not needed to make a claim -- I feel certain now that such would have proven difficult or impossible with Humana. I have cancelled my account and am looking for a better company."

"I've been insured by Humana for 2 years. Thankfully, I never had a major claim in that time. BUT BE WARNED: The price you see quoted is only good for 12 months. They have raised my rates over 25% per year (from $66 in Jan '06 to $102 Jan '08), and that's even after I moved to a higher deductible plan! It is disgusting and frustrating how these businesses are based on bait and switch pricing, and then DENY DENY DENY all claims. (No wonder we have so many lawyers in America!) Don't buy Humana insurance if you have the choice! But then again, they all seem to play these games."

"I signed my 75 year old mother up for Humana part D in November. Jan. 12th sent in prescription renewal, called and called got the runaround that they were swamped and never got her prescription. Dr. faxed again and again, finally filled part a month later and now two months later the second 1/2 of the prescription. Their reps claim they will call back, but never do. I will begin looking now for a new plan for next year."

"1. Almost impossible to talk on the phone to a live person 2. Sent in a prescription, no e-mail notifying they received it so I was out on a limb. Did they receive my presciption or not? There was no e-mail saying they received it. How was I to know its status? I called and checked on line which said no claims. However, on the phone a live person said "Yes, it has been received." No e-mails informing me when it will, or was sent, as promised also by live person on phone. 3. Wanted to refill a prescription, informed it was too early. But stopped at that. Last insurance company took the request anyway and sent me the pescription when its time came due, also informed me when it would be sent. Humana told me nothing."

"The customer service is abyssmal. It is nearly impossible to navigate their 1-800 number. Once you have entered your social security number at least 5 times, it hangs up on you. They took 6 months to send me my insurance card, and in teh meantime, they gave me incorrect information so I could not submit my claim. I have been very frustrated with the amount of time I have wasted with them, trying to call them and get my insurance card. It is a complete headache and I would not recommend this to anyone."

"I have an HSA (high deduct) policy and the first claim, which I must pay out-of-pocket, immediately triggered a review. When I called to inquire about the reason for the review, all I was told was that there appears to be some diagnosis that was not disclosed on my application. They refused to tell me what it is and demanded all my records for the past 5 yrs. Until they evaluate my diagnosis and treatment no claims will be paid even if unrelated. To make matters worse the doctor has dragged his feet supplying me with my charts. My beef is that Humana requested no records during the application process and by TN law can put an individual under review anytime during the first 2 yrs. It appears that I have paid over $3000 during this year for a policy that is useless. Probability is they will either rate my policy now and place a rider on my medical condition for a couple of years which is controlled by medication or worse...drop me. If that happens then I will be unable to obtain insurance. Personally, I believe the company has scammed me although it is all within the law. Buyer beware!!"

"The Humana process is unreasonable and very time consuming for authorizations. The customer service rep's are not friendly and wish to take up a lot of your time. Their computer systems are extremely slow and they need to be patient/provider friendly. Humana likes to keep money to themselves by requiring petty medical information that's not pertinent to the patient's needs. Humana doesn't care about the patient but they care about the dollars in their own pocket. "

"Humana, like many other large Insurance carriers, gives you the run around! I have been struggling with Humana for four months to get an Out-of-Network claim settled. First, I was told all I have to do is submit the claim form to Humana once I got the bill. Humana claims denied it saying it had to go through APS to get the "proper codes". APS processed it, payed jack sh**, then did nothing more. Three weeks later, I had to call Humana and APS to find out that PAS did not send information to Humana for settling the claim, I of course have to do all of the work! The cost of services was about $5,000, hence why I am going throught he motions to get this settled! Hopwfully before retirement in thrity years, it will get settled!"

"I agree that Humana will use any excuse not to pay claims. I spent all year fulfilling my obligation by paying out to meet my high $2,500.00 deductible. Now that I've reached my deductible, Humana is denying many of my claims. I had surgery a few weeks ago and even though I met my deductible the surgery is going to cost me a fortune because Humana is denying many of the claims. I'm getting nowhere with their customer service so have had to write letters of appeal. Humana is so bad that I am thinking of changing jobs so I can have better health insurance. With all the money I've paid out this year, it's like I don't even have health insurance!"

"Humana is the worst insurance company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They do everything they can to try to make it difficult to use your benefits. It almost seems like they operate just like that insurance company in John Grisham's book "Rainmaker"...deny, deny, deny. I have spent a month trying to get reimbursed for physician's visits for my sons, includuing their prescriptions and my youngest's nebulizer (18 months old and needed a breathing treatment...I had to pay for it myself b/c Humana denied coverage but when you try to reach a person, you can't). After I finally received the checks for the prescriptions they denied wrongfully (still fighting for the nebulizer reimbursement), now they've denied to pay for my husband's prescription. I can not imagine what we would do if we had someone who had serious health problems. If you have any choice in your health insurance, STAY AWAY FROM HUMANA!!!"

"Beware!!!!!!Employers selected this company, Not us.Runaround on everything...will hold up or make up something to make sure claims are denied. Some of the claims personel are rude and untruthful. Write everyone's name you talk to and get reference and Fax numbers.LOTS of luck!!!!"
