"The time will come when you need to collect on a life insurance policy and at that point Massmutual will become a ghost in your life. Will not answer any questions and will make it extremely difficult to complete this progress. It's amazing how helpful they are when taking you money and equally disturbing how difficult they can make someones life when paying out the money. Very difficult to find someone to help and then tons of forms that get lost and have to be certified and sent and resent. They will tell you that legally they can take as long as they need. Be prepared to speak with an attorney."

"I have been permanently and totally disabled for 10 years and receive Social Security Disability benefits. I am now 60 years old. My spouse and I purchased life insurance and disability policies from Mass Mutual when we were in our 20's. I received the life insurance premium waiver until I was 60. At that time, the specialist I see for ONE of my impairments indicated that although I was disabled from the employment I previously had and was trained for, I could work at some job. The life insurance premium waiver is such that at the policy's anniversary date closest to the insured's 60th birthday, if they are not totally disabled, the premium waiver no longer applies. I was sent conflicting notices that were mailed over a week from the dates on the letter about the amounts I owed within a few days from the dates I received the letters. I had to pay over 400.00 immediately and then a month later, well over 1,000.00 to keep my life insurance from cancelling. Mass Mutual completely ignores the entirety of my condition and the fact that I have been determined permanently and totally disabled by Social Security, as the truth isn't in their best interest. Additionally, especially in the past year, any written correspondence from Mass Mutual is usually taking 10 days or more from the date on the document to arrive in the mail. Since many of those items require a response within a certain time, it is often difficult to meet that time frame due to their mailing delay. I used to give glowing reviews of the company and recommended the company to many people over the decades. I feel guilty about that now."

"My original company was MetLife now, they're trying to make us Buy their products, which are awful I'm too old to be stripped from a lower premium This company is like colonial Penn Crooks Thanks a lot MetLife you suck"

"I have seen cash value on my Whole Life increase just as it was Illustrated and the dividends have performed better that the advisor had in the Illustration. Seems like a strong company. I've been very satisfied"

"In 3 days it will be one month since all paperwork has been filed to receive my payment. I have been in contact numerous times abs have been told numerous times that I will receive my check shortly. Now they are changing my payment to direct deposit and charging me a fee for this. It has been three days and no funds in my account. Highly do not advise using Mass Mutual. Wondering if I wok ever see my funds"

"The application process is full of meetings and paperwork. The salesman kept saying "That's it nothing else is required." But would text or call me and my wife trying to set up another meeting because there was more paperwork to go over and sign. It is more of a hassle to get the policy than it was worth. They also promised that the quoted rate was the rate we would pay but again more text messages and calls to get another meeting and fill out sign more paperwork. STAY AWAY"

"Whole life and I was scammed into taking another policy out on the first one. Well 30 years later the policy has a loan balance of 50k. Great investment. MAS MUTUAL SUCKS"

"My first job provided a pension. Mass Mutual misspelled significant portion of address to confirm my annuity. I was lucky to receive the letter. It took 16 years to get my annuity certificate. Now that I am trying to collect they can not find my file. Every time I call their response time is 8 to 12 weeks. I get transferred back and forth. They are a joke"

"Bizarre underwriting processes and very vague explanations. I did not like to find out that typically Mass Mutual life insurance is sold primarily through brokers as a "financial planning tool" i.e. the financial planners don't want to plan tax strategy they want to sell insurance that is expensive but will PAY for estate taxes. Interesting marketing approach but not one that is very ethical."

"Dealing with Mass Mutual has been the worst experience of my life. Just when you need them they overwhelm you. They constantly want doctors reports from me even though they have releases. I am dealing with deep depression and bipolar disorder and they have done nothing but make my illness worse. When I go to my psychiatrist and other doctors they want me to have them fill out attending physician forms all the time my psychiatrist only gives me 15 minutes for god sakes leaving me no more time to care for myself. I wish I never bought the disability policy to begin with. I do not recommend them to anyone who does not want to be tortured. My doctors are getting fed up as well asking me didnt we just do one of these for you. Some are now refusing to comply telling me they have releases for this info if they want it."

"I filed a claim for waiver of premium on my life insurance policies after a diagnosis of motor neuron disease. The claim was handled promptly and efficiently. As soon as the medical records were obtained from the treating physicians the claim was approved I received checks refunding the premiums I had paid since the date of disability with in a couple of days of being notified that my claims were approved.I was also informed that I could convert my term policy to a permanent whole life policy and all future premiums would be waived. MassMutual has been a pleasure to deal withand I highly recommend this company."

"This is an extremely difficult company to deal with. We have spoken with multiple customer service agents to get information regarding our life policies.It seems that each agent gave us a different answer. They completely botched the closing and cash out of a life policy. It took weeks of time and hours on the phone to get their mistakes corrected and they still messed up the tax witholding. As a final gesture they sent a customer satisfaction survey that would not open. This has got got be the most confused company I have ever had to deal with."

"I have a disability policy with MassMutual and unfortunately I was hit by a car and badly disabled. Mass Mutual has made it extremely difficult to collect on my policy. I also have a policy with Unum and they have been a pleasure. DO NOT USE MASS MUTUAL"

"MassMutual steals your Life Policy that I have had since 1975. All on a letter I did not receive! Saved them money cost me a bunch ! They are not nice people !"

"We had to cash out the life insurance policy we had with Mass Mutual. They promised - several times - to expedite the process and overnight us a check (at our expense, of course). This was weeks and weeks ago, and we are still waiting. We asked what the holdup was, and they said that they are not legally obligated to process anything for a certain amount of time. So they are sitting on our money for no real reason. We are never doing business with them again. "

"I have had a disability policy for the last 15 years. This year, i filed a claim due to a permanent injury that prevents me from doing my work as before. I have been waiting for the last 7 months even though the policy says 3 month waiting period. they even had the guts to send somebody to see if my injury was real. Do yourself a favor, Just do not buy a disability policy from this company. YOu will regret it if you buy it and needs the policy."

"The best company in the industry. I did extensive research of other companies and I found this company to be the best with financial strength and client relationships. I have Disability and Life insurance with the company and I am also doing investments through this company with mutual funds and college savings and I am extremely satisfied with everything. I recommend this company to anyone."

"If you look at the rating of the insurance company then you will see why the are so good at what they do. It took me over a year to decide where to do my whole life insurance. My agent was through and when through an entire process with me before moving forward. If you look at their divdend payouts to their policy holders then you know that they are the best company to buy whole life with. I can highly recommend then and I would say that New York life was a close second."

"The company as a whole is the most financially and ethically secure company of its kind when researching others in the industry. MassMutual has made extremely wise, financial decisions when the market was/is at its worst in over 75 years and when other like-companies have had their ratings reduced, MassMutual has maintained their AAA rating which is critical in this economic downturn."

"I bought disability insurance from MassMutual over twenty years ago. I had two major heart reconstructions leading to partial disability. While the process of getting approved for benefits was frustrating, the company honored my claim and has been very helpful since then. For example, because my condition will not change, they no longer required monthly reports from my M.D. In addition, they have been very helpful in answering questions about my benefits. I would recommend MassMutual to any friend."

"I'm a dentist and have had their disability income policy for 7 years. I have filed a disability claim with them and although the waiting period from last day of work is 90 days , it has been five months and I still do not have a decision let alone payment, they've had all the necessary info and they just find ways of delaying it, last when i asked my claim adjuster for a deadline he yelled and said he could not give me one and it could be at least another month or longer and basically it takes as long as it takes. I have spoken to a well known insurance attorney and he told me he is familiar with Mass Mutual and they rutinely do this to their clients. They also have their own brokers that work for the company sell the policies and that agent made several gross misrepresentations during sale of the policy to me and several other colleagues at the time. I have seen people recommending this company based on their financial strength, but that has nothing to do with handling of the claims, on fact the more you deny and delay claims the stronger you will end up being as an insurance company. Please do yourselves a favor and do not use this company."

"For over a year, the adjuster has held up the claim process, requesting documents and claiiming she never got them or else requiring updates or claiming that the documents sent were inadequate. However, she would never explain why the documents were needed nor would ever state if other documentation could be provided in lieu of what she wanted. As it is, our file is several hundreds of pages with no resolution in sight. "
