"True evaluation is how they handle claims. I have not had to file a claim yet."

"I had a hit-and-run which was captured on surveillance video. Mercury sent me to one of their recommended body shops for an estimate. They give me an estimate. After case was resolved I opted for a cash payout. Mercury sent me a check in the amount of the estimate, About two weeks later they sent me a letter saying they had overpaid me because the estimate had been revised and was about half the original amount. They demanded that I send them a refund. "

"I had Auto and Home with Mercury, with NO CLAIM, premium kept going up every year. I talked to my agent she asked me to talk to Mercury personnel direct, after a long wait, they said we increase to everyone with the DOI approval ..>I switched to Safeco and totally happy>Mercury is overrated they are really bad, criminal, run real fast from this money sucker"

"We've had Mercury for over 10 years. We switched to Mercury after observing their claim handling when we had AAA and were involved in a not-at-fault accident w/ a driver covered under Mercury. AAA was exceedingly negligent in their handling of the case and not for the first time either Mercury, on the other hand was courteous and efficient. So we switched our auto and home out of the useless AAA and into Mercury, and dropped our premiums significantly as well. We're fortunate to have a very good insurance agent, who worked closely with us to help optimize our coverage.>>Over the 10+ years with mercury, we've been involved in our fair share of accidents and mishaps, one of which we were at fault. In every instance, Mercury handled the claims process very fairly.>>All well and good. Unfortunately, now that we just bought a rather expensive car and are shopping for insurance, we're discovering that Mercury's premium for high-end luxury cars is significantly above what competing insurance companies are quoting for the same level of coverage. Hmmm....>"

"Process is cumbersome and there are frequent disconnects with them understanding or keeping track of communication and items provided to them for review. Claimant seems to do more work than they do."

" Why people buy Home owner insurance? To be taken care of when inccident happens, right? Mercury taking me to their attorney for examination UNDER OATH with some disgusting, irrelevant questionings. Like askingg the receipts of living expenses, household expenses, whether I rented out one of my room-how much was the deposit-when was it returned -when did you clean your house-where is the cancelled check- to name a few. They want me to hire my own attorney at my expenses. All we claimed after 8 years is that damage to our house exterior due to too much raining & "Station Fire." They are NOT treatening us like a victim but like a criminal. I would never ever recommend Mercury to any one. When you go to buy your insurance, you will be received like a king / queen only at the time when you go to buy insurance from them. When you file a claim, they treat you like a criminal. Is it 100 wrong. I would never ever recommand Mecury to any one. "

"My car was pushed off the road by teenagers launching water balloons from their sunroof of their car, while driving. My agent was worthless. He told me to get the police report, never mentioned a rental car, should have reminded me to report accident to DMV and had a major bad attitude, like I was bothering him with my questions. I will not be renewing my insurance policy with Mercury."

"We received a premium from Mercury totalling about $850 for 6 months for two Corollas. Each car was over $400. Two cars are not critical for us and we decided to sell one and save on our car insurance. When we got the new policy we found out that by selling one car we had saved less than $16 on the 6 month premium. "

"We paid into this insurance and because we live in Florida, they dropped us! I am angry because we have never in our entire life had a claim on any insurance. We weathered four hurricanes with no problem. These insurance companies suck!"

"The insurance adjuster found my wife completely at fault by statements alone. He completely disregared a police report which found the other driver 100% at fault. I would rather pay a higher rate than give my money to Mercury."

"Had 2 accidents with my car, first one was at fault, the other one was not. Took a while for the adjustor to arrive at the repair shop for the first accident, so it delayed the repair. Anyway, I experienced no other hassles on my claim for that first accident. For the second accident, I was not at fault but went ahead and had my car repaired the same day. I received the reimbursement for the amount that I paid within a week without any problems. They are also very quick in applying the credits to my account for any changes in coverage/policies. Would recommend to my friends."

"I have had Mercury insurance for about 8 years now and I haven't really had any issues with them. The only problems I ran into where with the "recommended" body shop I used once. But other than that I really can't complain. I have had collision and comprehensive claims and everything has turned out just fine."

"We've had our auto insurance with Mercury for over 13 years. During this time both myself and my husband have been involved in auto accidents. Mercury has ALWAYS been there for us. The service is top notch professional and they always make us feel important as a customer. I think it's important to get with the right agent. Ours is the best."

"Filed a claim to have a cracked windshield replaced. The company that they sent to fix it performed faulty workmanship. Now they want me to file a new claim stating that my car was vandalized, or they won't resolve the problem. Also, the original company they sent is no longer in business. Mercury - the place to go for insurance fraud!"

"Customer service is very important to us and Mercury did not provide good customer service. Even with a claim where the other party was at fault, we did not receive the service we should have. A customer should never feel like the enemy."

"I paid for my insurance in full for six months and 4 months later Mercury decides to send me a bill dated 3 months prior stating that I owed them more money. They claimed I owed them more money because my drivers license expired in 2006, which never happened, and that made me not qualify for a good driver discount anymore. My agent was extremely rude about when I questioned her about it and said that I had to pay it. Save yourself the time, money and stress by not going to Mercury!"

"New car stolen and recovered: they tried to replace the stolen interior parts (seats) with used parts from a junk yard. They dragged out the process and finally agreed to total the car and gave me less then fair value. Several years later they did not back me up on a rear end collision and were the opposing carrier as well. They were penny pinching and very unfair."

"When I had an accident and totaled my car, they paid me a fair price very quickly. It took months, however, to determine fault and it is not totally resolved over two years later."

"We were rear ended by an illegal alien, unlicensed & drunk. I suffered a herniated disk, my wife lost her teeth went into shock, my son suffers from epileptic seizures. Claim was made against our unisured motorist coverage almost two years ago and still no settlement. Had to hire an attorney to step in because Mercury fought us every step of the way. I am unable to work and on disability, my credit is ruined because Mercury has not yet paid the medical claims. I need either epidural injections or surgery and Mercury refuses to even advance the costs to undergo the procedures. We were with this company for almost 12 years and they have treated us like dirt. We highly recommend that anyone thinking about obtaining auto insurance through Mercury take the time to think again. This is a horrible company that thinks nothing of thier insured and only about their "bottom line". STAY AWAY!!!"

"They did NOT fulfill their mandate in holding me harmless as if the rear end accident had never occurred. The body shop recommended by them was atrocious. Had my car for over three months, tried to dicker around with "used parts" and the repair I would rate 2 out of 5. Like all insurance companies, they are all ok until you get to know them during a claim."

"A woman(because she was no lady) backed into my bumper on the rear passenger side in a parking lot. But because it was done at a very slow speed, the paint only cracked on the the tail end of my car. Mercury deemed the accident 50/50 after a scant inspection by a body shop they recommended. This person didn't even bother to take pictures (there were faint marks made by the other driver's rubberized bumper) and said "oh that's okay, we don't need pictures, Mercury will get all the information they need from me". The other driver's insurance at least took the time to really inspect the damage, bumper scuffs and take pictures. But of course they claimed it wasn't their customer's fault. There were cameras in the parking lot, but the adjuster told me that since it was such small claim they would not subpoena the video coverage. In other words it was too much trouble for them to be bothered by something so insignificant. The cost to repair the bumper was the almost the same as my deductible ($500), so yes I would definitely make a claim and have my premiums rocket sky high. Not to mention that it was tough to get a hold of my adjuster. I spoke to a machine more often than I spoke to a real live person. Sure, I'm as happy as a clam. I've been with them for over 4 years and they sure treat their customers well. RIGHT!! I WILL NEVER INSURE WITH MERCURY EVER AGAIN!! AND I WILL TELL ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO NEVER INSURE WITH THEM! THANKS MERCURY...FOR THE DIDDLY SQUAT YOU DID FOR ME, AFTER ALL THE PREMIUMS I PAID ALL THESE YEARS."

"The people in the claims dept lied constantly about the vehicle which was stolen. First they didn't know where it was until I told them. I live in LA, the vehicle was recoved in Phoenix. The Phoenix Police department called me to tell me where it was. I told Mercury. They advised that their "representative" in Phoenix would look into it. Two weeks later I called they said it was taken to their "place". I asked where that was. I declined to tell me. I went to Phoenix and found they had taken it from the original tow yard to a place where the Large sign in front of it said Auctions ever week> I called them from that place and again asked where the vehicle was. They said their representative hadn't looked at it yet. Then they changed their minds and said the vehicle was "total". I rented a trailer for the car I had driven to Phoenix, towed it back to LA, with the vehicle they said was totaled. Had the vehicle inspected by a shop they recommended. This shop said the estimate for repair was over $4000 and since this was more than halld the value of the vehicle, it was a "total" I have no idea where that "rule" came from. I did not total the vehicle. Had it repaired at a different shop. Sent Mercury the bill, including the charge for Hotel Bills in Phoenix, the bill for the trailer rental and Gas to go to Phoenix and back. It took a lot of phones call to get this done. The vehicle is in prime condidtion now as it was before it was stolen. Obviously my Experience with Mercury was a real I opener. Especially after I watch TV commercials in which Mercury advertise the "lowest rates". You be the judge. "

"After being in a hit and run accident that was not our fault a Mercury agent claimed our vehicle totaled. They refused to pay our claim sighting it was the other parties insurance was responsible. Luckily we had the other parties plate ID and we did all the investigative work and found that they had no insurance. Mercury then said, OH! that's different. One year later we received a check for the totaled vehicle. Yes, it took a year."

"The adjusters are not very bright. One adjuster was supposed to reimburse me for my rental fees and they changed the tax rate to a lower rate because they THOUGHT I lived in a county that had the lower tax rate because of the area code of my work number. They should pay me for whatever I paid. In addition, my residental address was in the same county as the place of business where I had paid for the rental. That is so nick picky. I understand that cost reduction is important, but over tax? That is just lame. You have definitely lost a customer."
