"This is the worst insurance policy I have ever had I purchased a Disability policy. When I unfortunately developed Stage 4 Cancer MetLife denied my claim even though I was extremely ill, couldn't work at the time, and Social Security Disability approved my claim which was a very thorough process. The denial letters were a joke, if a doctor wrote one day that I was feeling better that day, and the next day wrote I was feeling horribly, MetLife cut and pasted she's feeling better into the denial letter. It's unbelievable that they are getting away with this. I suppose they are making a lot of money selling disability insurance policies and not paying their claims when the people are too ill. Perhaps they are counting on people feeling to sick to even find an attorney and fight them, especially in the case of cancer... MetLife has very good lawyers and some of the disability attorneys don't even want to oppose them in court because it is too difficult based upon their vast monopoly... I mean resources...., which is a horrible injustice for all of those who need legal representation."

"Its been a month since the accident. I've spoke to about 5 different people. I still have received NO information as to the status. They are the absolute worse people I have EVER dealt with."

" Took two years to settle a simple claim where I got rear ended by someone. That person also had the same insurance. I even turned them into the State Board Of Insurance. I will not recommend them to anyone."

"Stay away from this company in Texas. Nobody cares Insurance Agent office one mile away never came to even see the property for a $55000 Claim. Threaten with Arbitration is the only reason the claim got completed. Even the Senior Adjuster was over ruled."

"Metropolitan Life is my disability insurance company. My doctors will not release me to work due to medical issues. However about every 3 months I have to go to battle with MetLife to prove once again my disability. I have Parkinson's Disease incurable and progressive. "

"I had been insured by Met Life for over 10 years for both Auto and Home insurance. Our area was hit by a hail storm that damaged the roofs of many homes in our neighborhood. The majority of homes received new roofs including all homes surrounding ours. I could tell by the attitude of the first insurance adjuster that our roof coverage would be denied he was very apologetic about the situation seemed to know the outcome of our claim already. I asked for a review by the regional adjuster again coverage was denied. Of the dozen plus homes in our neighborhood that received roof damage only two homes were not covered for roof damage sadly both insured by Met Life. "

"Never ever ever allow them to tell you anything you can not independently verify in writing. Never sign anything without this verification in writing and always fact check everything. They are getting away with this because few people take the time to hold them accountable. Always do your homework. "

"They raise my homeowner rates every year 336. more than last year for no reason other than they can. I have no claims and great credit. I think that Insurance companies think we are too lazy to shop...just easier to pay the bill. Not this time"

"Ive been with MetLife for over 6 years on both Home and Auto insurance.Had roof replaced after a hail was handled very professionally.Had my minivan totaled no fault very good experience with this too.The only beef I have are the premiums growing higher than I expected - x2100 in 6 years"

"The insurance company determines what dollar amount is owed period. There is no flexibility. My kitchen cabinets did not warp from the water damage until after they thoroughly dried which was after the insurance check had been issued. So I had to pay for new cabinets myself the insurance company would not change their original amount. The check issued was not enough to cover all the work gutting haul away costs. My insurance rates immediately went up though this was my one and only claim in 12 years. The adjuster was pleasant."

"We purchased Long Term Care Insurance from Met Life 12 years ago. A few months ago we received a letter that they no longer sell this type of insurance but will honor present subscribers. Yesterday we received a letter raising the rates so significantly that we cannot afford to keep the policies. Do we have any recourse? Will any attorney take a class action suit against this company? "

"Metlife dental is great. Metlife homeowners is terrible, they will go out of their way to deny a claim & bring in out of state experts to make sure they get what they want which is to payout zero."

"Had major water damage to home. Claims were paid timely, representative was extremely supportive and helpful in getting us through the process. Covered the repairs, contents and a place to live until the repairs were completed. Very satisfied with service."

"Their adjuster was very rude and unprofessional. My own chiropractor can attest to their unprofessionalism. You think your insurance company would help think again. It only takes one bad worm to ruin an apple. Be aware of home policy specially theft and robbery. Have your jewelry insured separately. Use a video photo and appraise it for your own record."

"Very deceiving billing. found less expensive insurance and canceled, paid for last month and out of no-where company came back and told me I owed more, becuase of express it billing installments. Company reported to collections with no notice."

"I would like to know why the Illinois Dept of Insurance approved the MetLife group the right to raise the Long Term Care Insurance Policy. The annual premium rate went up approx 18%. They said that the state of Illinois dept of Insurance allowed them to raise the rate. I would like to know who allowed this and who is on the commitee to permitted this to happen. I would also like to get a copy of the decision and how they have the legal right without notifing the public of this action."

"After more than 25 years of paying premiums to this company I finally had a "no fault" claim. An oak tree fell on my car totaling it. I had nothing be run-arounds, file update errors, claim reversal information, disinterest and misinformation throughout the entire claim process. "

"I had a WONDERFUL experience with MetLife Auto & Home! I had a wreck, called into claims, had an adjuster out & by the end of the week had a check sent via FedEx for my totalled vehicle. They paid my medical bills, a fair amount for my car, and I got a call confirming everything worked out for me. I WILL NEVER LEAVE, they have fair rates, they go up just as often as they go down. Things cost more, but the benefits of the policy far outweigh any slight premium increase. VERY HAPPY!!!"

"They lie, they cheat, they steal. They sell you something and then do everything they can to keep you from using it, even up to the level of having to take them to court. They have lost a number of lawsuits over deceitful claims and they use hypotheticals to close claims. IE., Doctor do you think this person could work if they got better...you do...good, case closed. "

"I have had a few times were I have needed to file a claim. I was not satisfied on either claim. It is a cat and mouse game trying to contact an agent. I actually never recieved a single call from my agent from this most recent claim. I will not be renewing my policy come May. I want a company to make sure I am worth the call. "

"We have paid auto insurance to MetLife for 30 years without any major claims. Now our renewal just arrived with a 40% increase! Contacted them and were told that the WA. state has OK'd insurance rate increases. ?? Our best guess is that my spouse turned 65 last mo.and now with both of us over this age, we're considered a high risk. I call it AGE Discrimination. Beware of aging and getting on a fixed income! Our reward for keeping Metropolitan in business for 30 years, HIGHER RATES !!"

"Horrible customer service - representatives in claims were rude to me and didn't return phone calls - I also found out claims rep was misleading (lying) to me - I found this out when I spoke with a rep that was at my work. What they do should be considered criminal - AGAINST the law!"

"I've been with them for 10 years and never had a claim. And then they kicked me out just because my daughter who is not covered by my insurance borrowed my car for two days and got into accident. This is a terrible company."

"If you can get through their phone maze they answer questions and do their job. But the Met Life Rep will go through all your policies before making the changes you ask for even though nothing has changed from the last time. (2 weeks) Very annoying. They will drop you like a rock if you have 3 accidents in your family even through you have been a client for 30 years. Where did all my money go?"

"I bought a $50,000 life insurance policy they claimed dividends were applied to the premium and you paid the difference. After paying the premiums they told me to pay (premium less dividends)for many, many years, they billed me over $6,000.00 and said I had to pay it if I wanted to keep my policy. So I didn't pay and they cancelled the policy. I wouldn't have anything to do with that cheating company. I won't even be an AARP member because they use MetLife."

"Never get involved in a car accident, hmm, that is hard to do, but if do get involved in one, watch out for Metlife, they will blame you for everything even if it was not your fault. They treat you like they are the masters and you are the dog. Good luck"

"I got very good service over many years. I had a major claim and got prompt and fair payment. When I was sued for pain and suffering by the driver who caused the collision, Metropolitan provided me with a good lawyer who took care of everything. My only complaint is that, after the recent deregulation in Mass., their rates seem to be higher than most."

"I have been with Metropolitan Direct for almost 10 years. Until this year (2008), their automobile insurance rates have been the cheapest I have been able to find and I shop for rates every year. I have had some billing issues with Metropolitan over the years, but their representatives have alway been curteous and helpful. I have also had some claims and never had a problem getting them approved."

"Had lightening hit house. I had to make claims adjuster come to my house to view all the electrical equipment that was not working any longer. They wanted me to disconnect everything and bring it to a repair shop to see if it was repairable or replaceable. I had 17 pieces of equipment to bring in. I refused, that is why adjuster came to my home. He sent list of model #'s to Insurers World Evaluation Servgices to research how much they could find replacements for the unrepairable items. when I received list and amounts I was simpley amazed at how low the price was. I called the company and asked where I could find all these pieces of equipment for such a low price, I looked on the internet and electronics stores all around me and could not find a price that low anywhere. They told me that They could find them and I would have to buy them through their company ( sounds like kick back to me!!!) I asked them how long it would take to get a piece of equipment and they told me "Maybe 7-10 days if not longer.". It has been at least 2 weeks and I havent received a ck or anything so I can start replacing my stuff. I have been fighting with the claims adjuster because I want to go and buy the stuff, Bring it home and hook it up. I don;t want to be in convenanced any longer. I have to call another supervisor today to what is happening with my claim. I had a MAC computer that was fried, (they made me take it to Apple to confirm) apple gave them what it would cost to replace the computer. The adjustor told me that they were going to pay for the new computer. they sent a statement that they would pay, minus the depreciation of the unit. When I receive the computer send a copy of bill and they would send the depreciation $ back to me. I don't understabd how come there has to be so many transactions. They know what it going to cost (adjustor also called apple Himself to verify price) why can't they just give me the cost. I payed my premium and now they don't want to do their job and give me what is owed to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Slow to pay on claim. Regularly receive conflicting information from representatives. Prices higher than other companies. Paperwork is unbelievable. Every minor change involves multiple mailings of multiple pages each. What a waste of environmental resources and money!"

"We have been with Met for nearly 3 years and thought everything was fine. 9 days before closing a sale on a new home, we get a call saying Met has decided not to insure our next house. I was frantic! We thought in the previous month when we called about getting coverage, everything was fine, but apparently they changed their mind. The reason was given that we had too many claims (we had not had a claim in 2 and 1/2 years). Too make things much worse, they called back the next day and said it was all a mistake and said all would be fine with our new home. So, I canceled with the new company we'd just found. Well, today, I got a call that they won't insure our home unless we take a $5000 deductible instead of the $1000 that we were wanting and told we could have yesterday! If you go with met, know they will drop you for no reason and treat you terribly in the process!"

"During a windstorm, a tree fell and hit my in-ground pool electricles, heater, pumps, etc....causing in excess of $10,ooo in damage. I called it in and at first was told (by 2 people) my liability would be the deductible. Then the adjustor got involved...he depreciated the costs to fix the pool by 10%/year it was installed. I asked him where this 10% figure could be found in my policy...nope it was not there! He suggests I research the internet to find the tables...well, an hour later and nothing! Am I surprised? No not really, but I will drop Met Life shortly."

"I had a claim submitted to them recently some one hit my car in the parking lot. It was a hit and run, and i filed a claim. They came to do smaple test on my vehicel to find out if the vehicle wa hit by another vehicle and the person who came after taking the sample dropped the sample on the drive way and i asked to take a new sample and the answer was they ran out of samples and said will come back and take one. Apparantly they said they came backa dn took the sample when but i supect she sent the wrong sample and the result was they said i hit a construction building and got damaged so not covered. And that was not true 100% and I argued and finally they said they will pay only 50% but i feel they are very unreliable. There is no prooven way to get any claim straight forward with them. "

"The days of the neighborhood agent for Met have long gone the way of personal service. Very difficult to even talk to my agent on the phone. Requested an in-home appointment to review current insurance coverages and to add life insurance coverage ... but, was told to make an appointment at her place of business. Average satisfaction with claim response (1 homeowner's and 1 auto). Home owners insurance premium increases excessive. Don't understand the lack of service for a client that insures a home, condo, and four vehicles!"

"Had to file a claim for a totaled vehicle. Metropolitan paid absolute top dollar with no hassles for a older mint condition convertible. Replaced the car with equivalent for the money paid. Fast payment, had wreck on Saturday, had check the next Friday. Also had occasion to recently file with Met for tornado damage; again fair payment very quickly. I've had auto claims with other companies where the other person was at fault and it was like pulling teeth to get anywhere close to the actual damages."

"I had a wonderful experience with MetLife, both in sales and service. My agent is local and I can call him anytime... no 1-800 INDIA or www.wherever. My agent is my "neighbor" and that is how I like to do business. I found there are a lot of fly-by-night insurance companies out there, but I only trust one's that have been through it all... MetLife is top-notch."

"I met with an accident not at my fault. I filed a claim for the same. The claim handler was very rude and never took interest in solving the claim. When I call, it always goes on voice-mail. She didn't inquire for police report on our behalf and I had to contact the police department on my own. Lot of my time was wasted. I had to coordinate myself with the party at fault instead of her working for us. So in short she never worked for us and I only did all the things for my claim. Fortunately, I got my money paid by the other party. Be CAREFUL when buying met-life insurance. "

"Metropolitan decided to get out of the Florida market, rather than make the adjustments as requested by the State of Florida. I understand it was a "greedy" business decision, but do not think their long-standing customers deserved this type of service. I hope metropolitan goes belly up in the next few years in response to how they treat their customers. "

" I HAD THE UNFORTUNATE EVENT OF TEARING MY ROTATOR CUFF. UNFORTUNATLY I PAID A PREMIUM TO METLIFE FOR SHORT TERM DISABILITY AND THEY MAKE IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE MOPNEY YOU DESERVE FROM THEM.THEN MY JOB SENT THEM AN EMAIL STATING THAT THEY DO NOT WANT ME TO RETURN TO WORK UNTIL IM 100%. THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM. BECAUSE OF THEM I WENT 10 WEEKS WITHOUT A SINGLE PENNY FROM THEM AND I AM STILL OUT OF WORK AT THE PRESENT TIME AND NO MONEY IN SIGHT FROM THEM IF IT WASNT THE OMLY INSURANCE THAT MY JOB HAD FOR SHORT TERM DISABILITY I WOULD NOT STQAYB WITH THEM AT ALL. THEY ARE HORRIBLE AT GETTING BACK TO YOU WHEN YOU WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO THEM, THEY DONT CALL BACK AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE ALSO. "If they can't find anyone to blame for an accident, they'll blame _you_. After a hit-and-run auto accident, MetLife said that their "investigators" had determined that I had crashed the car myself and was filing a fraudulent claim. I had to go to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office to get someone at MetLife to consider my claim seriously. Two years after the initial claim, I was reimbursed, less deductible (and two years' interest on $9K)."
