"RUN, DON"T WALK away from this company. Their business model is to pay 50% or less of your policy limits after a catastrophic loss by delaying, denying and delaying some more until you run out of options/money. Took 20 months and cost over $100,000 for mortgage and attorney fees alone to settle at less than policy limits after a mobile home fire. This company will cancel your insurance after a claim of $25,000 or more. The bad reviews are true. Wish I had read them first. AR will destroy your life as you know it."

" Adjustor showed up at the wrong time, then he broke into my house by kicking in the front door. Then he left the house wide open and unsecured The damage to the door, the door frame, the glass and the lock that the adjuster destroyed, was the only thing the company offered to cover. The tub has a crack that goes down the center of it and it will not hold water anymore but they dismissed that as "rough wear tear". I am hopeful as I have a fierce attorney who is looking into these occurrences. "

"Burglery report to police 11/19 and sent independent appraiser out 2 weeks later. No show because he had a flat tire and got lost. Met him nest day and drove him to home. 1 week later he asked for pictures and police report from me. Another week and on 12/18 now a month I called insurance and they said they would get back to me. Getting the "brush off?""

"I have this insurance through Kay Jewelers My house was burglarized forced entry through a window THAT WAS LEFT OPEN FROM INSIDE ONLY thief knifed my window screen unlocked the spring and completely opened the window to jump into my home a police report was filed too. I submitted all papers to file a claim. Waited... waited.. waited... First time around they denied the claim stating that it was not a burglary because the window was left open and that one of the pages of the police report was missing.Contacted officer he sent me an email stating AGAIN that IT WAS IN FACT A BURGLARY submitted that email too resubmitted the COMPLETE report this time. Waited waited waited again received a letter denying the coverage one more time because according to them it was not a burglary it was only a theft because there was no forced entry My window screen was knifed then unlocked and removed to completely open window. That according to me and officer is a forced entryIt took them 9 months for this whole process I waited patiently and submitted all paper work as per their request. After calling today and being on hold for almost 1hr 1/2 they finally just decided they wouldn't help me they wouldn't cover my loss. All they told me at the end was "Is there anything else we can help you in?" I just told them to cancel my worthless insurance with them. Why pay 12 a month for an insurance that is not going to help you in any darn way Piece of crap Don't waste your money on them "

"Do NOT purchase I bought insurance for an 80000 Cobalt Boat through American Reliable and they want to deny the 1300.00 claim due to "operator error." I have had other boat insurance and never had a problem. Horrible customer service Look at the current ratings and save yourself some money and shop elsewhere"

"had water damage to my travel trailer over the winter the company is refusing to pay stating that I am NOT covered for leakage. I have paid them 300.00 a year for the last 11 years. The adjuster hired by themshowed up without a ladder tocheck for a roof leak spent about 3-4 minutes looking at it without even bending down and determined there wasn't a problem with the roof....but couldn't explain why the entire back wall was water damage. Adjuster definitely working in the favor of American Reliable"

"If you have a flood insurance claim with them make sure they paid you sales tax. They're cheats and don't pay it even though they are required to pay. I wouldn't doubt if they billed FEMA for it and kept it for themselves.And just like any other cheat insurance company they play the delay deny defend game. They'd rather go to court than pay out on a claim. Really shady comapny."

"They refused to pay a valid claim causing me financial ruin. Having no insurance is better than American Reliable. At least you could save the premium to help self-insure your property. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY FOR ANY REASON"

"This company sucks filed one claim on an accident with my well and they refused to pay saying it was going to fail at time anyway. They said I had previous failures which is not true I have the data. No correspondence or call backs 3 months to even try to get this resolved only to finally get a call back to tell me over the phone that they were not going to pay out. "

"Purchased motorcycle insurance for a price and they later sent me a bill for 3 times the amount. They changed our coverage without consent then when we would not pay the increased amount they dropped our coverage and would not provide a refund. Run from this company as fast as you can."

"Worst company ever...American UNRELIABLE....took several months to complete claim....If you have this company..get out now...If you do make a claim they will drop you right away... They just don't care....Assurant should be ashamed"

"I put in a claim in march of 2013. It's not July 24 2013 and I have only received one correspondence from this company in April 2013 stating they were waiting on additional information. Every time I call I can't get any information about my claim. They always say they will send a request to another department within thier agency requesting an udate and that's all they can do. I'm so fed up with this company. Please avoid this company at all cost. On top of all that I always speak to they same agent and she has a majoy attitude propblem."

"Had motorcycle accident bike was a total loss one month later still have not recieved any money.Being told now they do not have paperwork to issue payment.Paperwork they requested from me was signed for by them still no money"

"A cheap insurance company. They find reasons not to pay inspite of complete documentation of damages incurred. Rude brazen and opinionated staff are making decisions on denial. There should be class action lawsuits against them. "

"They found reasons to deny the claim poor workmanship deferred maintenance etc. they also completely ignored part of the claim. I am a disabled widow with no experience in dealing with insurance companies I had no help from my insurance agent or anyone else and American Reliable bulldozed right over me - they definitely took advantage of me. They cancelled me after they denied the claim and now my house is unlivable."

"We never receive notification of premium due. The only thing we receive is a notice of cancellation for "non-payment" of premium. We have the money to pay for premiums but are not notified when they are due. Even when we contacted the insurance company to try to correct this problem it has not been corrected. This is extremely annoying"

"The agent is largely responsible for my poor opinion, as they have never contacted me by phone to discuss my coverage in more than 10 years. However, now that I have a small claim, both the agent and the company are making it very difficult for me to recover anything. I am NOT PLEASED and plan to file a grievance against both the agent and the company."

"after being a loyal customer of 10 years And having NEVER filed a claim of any kind raised my rate by 30% the company I replaced them with was 50% less with far better coverage"

"I got the accident coverage and it really does pay 100% just like the agent said. Both my son and I were in an accident and American Republic paid the bill before I got a bill. Beautiful!"

"Thier billing practices are inconsistent. I never know wht my bill will be from month to month (or quarter to quarter) and they never seem able to explain the variations."

"I suffered storm damage to my home and called in a claim. Right off the bat, this agent had an attitude and acted like this damage was my fault. I have done everything they have asked and 10 weeks later we are still battling with this claim. So far they are only willing to pay half of the estimate for repairs. If you are insured by this company, I would recommend you change to another company before you have to file a claim and deal with these people."

"I've been on a quarterly payment plan since I started with this company a few years back. Now suddenly they want to put me on a eight week payment plan, because they said that we underpaid them. I never received one notice of a rate increase and the company which I got the Homeowners insurance through, said they showed no record of ever being sent a notice of a policy change. Now this company wants to charge me a pretty hefty rate increase to "catch up" on the so called late payments I never knew I had. I would not recommend this company to anyone. "
