"This company is the next thing to a scam. They have strung out my annuity pay out for almost 2 months. With every phone call the hold times get longer. Tax documents aren't even mailed on time."

"I paid premiums to this company for seven years, never missing or being late the entire time. My wife passed away on 12-15-2017. I contacted them that same day. Because I could not produce a copy of the policy, I was told I could not submit the claim on line and had to do so via mail. I mailed the complete application, including all requested documents on 12-21-2017. I was told that if the documents were in order, and the payment was approved, it would be paid in 7 - 10 business days. I heard nothing by Jan. 2, 2018 so I called. I was told the documents were received and everything seemed in order, and that if approved I could expect payment by 1-10-18 20 calendar days after mailing. On 1-8-18 I receive an email that the W9 I completed did not contain my social security number so the claim cannot be processed, even though my correct social security number was included on the application. I completed another W9 and sent it in that evening. I have communicated with three representatives of Protective Life Insurance including a supervisor who all say the same thing. Your claim will be paid 7 - 10 working days from approval of documents, and because the social security number was not repeated on the W9 that the 7 -10 business day delay starts over. Unbelievable that it took 18 days for this company to notice that the social security number was only listed once instead of twice, and that the only recourse is for a new form to be submitted and their 7 - 10 business days counter to be started over. It appears that delaying payment, and quoting standard delays, is a common tactic used by this company to hold onto the money as long as possible. The only reason to purchase Life Insurance is to be paid in the event of death. This company appears to not be happy with the profit they make by collecting more in premiums than paying in benefits, but rather wants to hold your money as long as possible to earn interest on money that is no longer theirs. Stick with a reputable life insurance company. Don't buy from these people, or their affiliates, unless you don't care if your claim is paid in a timely manner. Shame on you, Protective Life Insurance Company. You should be aware that these policies are purchased to cover costs such as end of life medical, loss of income, and viewing, funeral, and burial expenses. These expenses are incurred prior to, and immediately following, death. Holding on to beneficiaries money for over a month when all information was provided in 6 days is not honoring your obligations in good faith. In 7 years, you never once failed to take the monthly payments from my bank account on time, but when it is your turn to pay, you need over a month. Increasing your profit margin by delaying the only benefit you provide is simply wrong."

"Stay away from this company I had to contact my state Insurance Commissioner in order to collect on four separate claims. They lie, never return phone calls and provide false information when contacted by authorities. This company is a scam"

"I decided to cash in the policy. They didn't tell me all the forms they required. After e weeks I called and they said, oh, we were about ready to contact you. Said it had been 14 working days and they say they have 15 days then they told me I needed a W-9 and now the 15 day time period has started over. I request an ETA and they say fine and never provide it Now they won't answer calls Hold for the next operator. They don't want to pay you. They act like they don't have the money. I would never recommend these people"

"I asked for a term policy and thought that was what I had. Now, barely 10 years into my supposedly 20 year term policy I find out that the premiums we have paid which was exactly what they asked for in the policy has not been enough to keep the policy in force. I thought I was saving money but it turns out this was the most expensive mistakes I've ever made"

"Will be returning policy to company after reviewing it. Most states give you at least 10 days called a free look period. This policy is not worth anything. I requested and had written a 1 MM policy. Wanted 10 year term. Plain vanilla. They made it a flexible premium universal life policy instead with indeterminate benefit and values... NO thanks. This one has all kinds of fees attached tucked in back pages. They also added an arbitration addendum. again no thanks.. What that means for you non legal folks is that you can't sue them in Court. You'll have to go through the arbitration process first and you waive your rights to any jury trail etc. etc... My other polices from other companies that were also just issued don't have this... Wonder why needed it"

"It was extremely difficult to reach a live customer service representative... after dealing with automated system I was on hold for 20 minutes before finally being able to speak with someone. The representative was helpful though. "

"The customer service people who deal with claims are poor at best. They will put all the blame on you for a mistake that you should not have know about prior and warned for the future. The time delays are extreme over a month when initially i was told it would be a week. I have called over 9 times emailing and getting my own bank involved because of the issues. Horrible service will never go to them again. "

"Protective life has a number of disconnects within the company that all result in poor customer service. You get the feeling they just look as you as a number. They are slow to get back to you and never do they do the correct thing the first time."

"I am trying to collect on 2 annuities of which I am beneficiary. This company is completely unresponsive to any of my requests. It took 3 1/2 weeks and 4 phone calls before they sent me the claim forms. I filled out the claim forms and sent them in over a month ago. I have never received any further communication from Protective but when I call them to find out the status of my claim they tell me I filled out the forms wrong. I then correct the forms in the manner in which they instruct me to fax them back to Protective and again hear nothing until I call and am again told that I filled out the forms wrong. During my last phone call I requested of the clerk that was assisting me that she follow up with an email listing the instructions that we had gone over during our telephone conversation. She told me she did not have the capability to email. I then asked that she message me using the website. She again said she did not have the capability to message. I then asked her if she had the capability to tell me her name. She did but only her first name Kee-im. I am afraid that I am going to have to have my attorney contact this company in order for me to obtain my money but that will cost me several hundred dollars. I am a little concerned that this company may be on the verge of insolvency otherwise why would they throw so many roadblocks in the way of collecting on their policies/contracts. "

"customer service really lacks. They told me they would send out forms to remove our grown children from our original policy. Only half of what we needed were sent. 2 calls later I was told our premium would increase when we drop our children I would have thought there should been a savings or decrease of premium. I am now waiting for more paper work to figure out why an increase is justified. in their minds I can't speak for everyone but here in WI we take pride in customer service and honesty not to sure about this company."

"The customer service department of Protective Life Insurance Company is useless. They do not return phone calls respond to emails nor do they follow-up with providing information they promise to provide. The wait time for a customer service rep on the phone is at least 10 to 20 minutes which is usually time wasted because the reps are very rarely helpful."

"PL took over my life insurance policy from Chase Insurance lost the basis of the policy information as originally written and re-invented a policy to my detriment. The customer service grouop has been very slow and for all practicla purposes unresponsive to my complaints."

"I paid on an insurance policy for over fifteen years. When I missed the fact that my rate had been increased from 99 to 103.95 I received a letter stating that I would have to fill out a 20 page form to reinstate the policy. Mind you I had paid the 99 and just missed the 4.95. They told me there was no guarantee if I filled out the form my husband's policy would be reinstated. It was cancelled and I am telling everyone I know to NEVER sign up for Protective Life Insurance"

"My spouse past away due to a sudden illness after 9 yrs of coverage of a 20 yr. term life insurance policy with Protective Life. I submitted as the beneficiary for the benefit within the required time frame and the policy benefit was paid very promptly with a condolence call from the original insuring agent. Thank you Protective Life for helping me have my life run smoothly through my grieving process. "

"You pay up your premium and then when you get nearer to the end of life they start taking money out of your paid in premium until you have none left and then they can cancel your policy unless you start paying in premiums which can be over 100.00 per month when you are 64 years old"

"When reporting the death of my husband to claim benefits (paid premiums since 1993), after a week the company had to be called as paper work had not yet been received as they stated they would do. At such a time, to have to make repeated calls is beyond poor customer service to me as his wife, and surviving beneficiary."

"My brother has had $25,000 life policy with this company for over 40 years. He found out last week thru his agent that they are going to cancel this policy and he cannot get but $9,000. This is a rip off. He will be 70 years old in July and after all these years of paying they are going to cancel his policy. Something needs to be done about this. I gues they think they may have to pay off so they will cancel. I am contacting our representatives in Washington to see what is going on. I wonder if this company got some of the bail out that was past out."

"Purchased disability contract on auto purchase. 18 months later husband diagnosed with terminal illness with NO pre-exsisting condition of such. Protective life denied coverage based on him having an MRI for a pulled mussle 2 years prior to insurance being issued. DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM PROTECTIVE LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY...FRAUD"

"Purchased Protective Life whole life insurance policies for my wife and I in 1994. Initially there were high surrender fees and mortality charges. Surrender fees will be gone by next year. The cash values of the policies have increased by 4 to 5 percent a year. At this point after the "mortality and adminstration fees", the yearly increases to the cash value of the policies still exceed the cost of premiums I pay. Whole life policy is for the long haul. I'm satisfied that the policies afford the needed life insurance coverage, and an increase in the cash value above the costs. (needed the life insurance - bonus is being able to build a cash value over the long run) We're not planning on using the cash value of the policies as our main source of retirement income. There are other investments with better returns and much lower fees."

"During the recession of the 90's I bought a whole life policy from Potective Life. The coverage is $150,000 on me and $150,000 on my husband. They grossly misrepresented the premium I would pay in year 17. The premium suddenly increased from $80 per month to $480 per month. I am forced to drop the policy because of the exorbitant premium. I paid them without fail for 17 years and I feel unjustly treated. "

"The change in payment directives to different collection addresses from different states is a red flag. The manipulation and acquisition of other insurance companies, Chase Term Insurance in my case, is indicative of a classic buy and drop Wall street investment company. After researching available information on this company and it's so called subsidiary acquisitions, the vague and incomplete information afforded me was insufficient. I'm dropping this company as my term insurance carrier while I'm still in a position not to add good money to bad."

"I had a term life insurance policy with this company as an employee benefit. When I went to another employer, my representative asked if I wanted to continue the policy as my own. I said yes. After paying the premiums for two years, I found out from the rudest customer service person I have ever talked to that my rep had never transferred the policy to me from my old employer. Needless to say, I cancelled the policy. This company is dishonest and unprofessional. "
