"Our local agent is extremely helpful, however, the claims department have been sending me on a wild goose chase for a week, including sending me to a no longer opened rental place that they said they called for a rental car an hour before I drove down there. I have had more problems with this single claim than I have with any other claim combined. As long as you dont have to handle claims daily, the local offices take great care of you."

"Been a State Farm customer for over 39 years After two act of God incidents and a burst pipe resulting in minor claims, State Farm is not renewing my Homeowner's. I will be pulling all my other insurances out of State Farm immediately. This is not how to treat long term customers. State Farm is not a reputable company."

"State Farm has done everything they can think of to not cover our car being damaged. We have been with them for over 3 years and only had one claim from a year ago when we hit a dog. They made us jump through hoops with that too but eventually it got handled. We have had several things happen to our cars over the last year that indicate someone has been vandalizing our vehicles. We never made a claim or reported it until recently because we had no proof and the other issues were able to be fixed by my husband and a family friend. However, this time someone pulled our transmission plug halfway out, leaving obvious scoring on the plug and surrounding area. This is not a part that just 'falls out. When we had the car towed to a shop for the trans, they could not work on it because they could not lift it because there was frame damage. We thought the frame damage may have been from the dog a year ago, so they reopened the case completely separate from the transmission claim with the old claim number and everything and sent a person to look at the car and verify if it was related. The car was never lifted and the trans was never looked at by State Farm. Only the frame was inspected and had pictures in which you can actually see a straight cut part way through the metal next to the rust from even more vandalizing but of course they missed that. We had the car towed to the original shop that found and informed us of the transmission vandalism so that they could give State Farm their first hand account and professional opinion. They decide to call the shop instead of actually go out there, claiming the inspector person had already determined that the frame and transmission were wear and tear damage and they were not covering it. What How is rust in the rear responsible for a plug being damaged leading to leaking fluid leading to damage of the interior of the trans Not possible. They also tried to say that the shop said that they told her person who was supposed to look at it for State Farm that it was not vandalism. This was an outright lie as we had talked to the shop ourselves who said they had in fact talked to State Farm and told them the truth which was that it was not possible for the damage to be wear and tear. We have had to talk to over 20 claims specialists which requires us to tell the whole thing all over again just to have them treat us like crap and be extremely rude every single day for over a month, as if we've done something wrong. Safe to say we will NEVER be using State Farm again and will tell anyone we can to avoid them."

"Car was totled according to them. Was told they would send a check to my agent, never did. Finally on 617 I called and was told the check would be sent via next day to my agent. A letter took 4 business days to arrive and no check. Agent called and was told their mistake and the check would be sent next day. Called 3 days later to find out the check was still sitting there. Next day will be 2 weeks. Even my agent said the claims department LIES."

"Had a major theft of nearly everything I own. Most of the tools, test equipment was in like new condition. Had a policy with 26,700 coverage. About 60,000 worth of equipment was stolen. State Farm excessively depreciates it and claims it is only worth 16,000 . State Farm just lost a class action law suit in California for doing this to other people. Great company until they have to pay out"

I have NEVER not paid In this case, I paid the premium in Dec and the next isn't due until 31419- today is 21419 so how am I late they have raised my rated 3x in the past 6 months yet I've had no claims they hate when you actually USE the insurance. My agent as usual lately, I got their answering machine 215pm and left a message with no call back yet. I am FED UP"

"Resident of central Texas State Farm denied my roof claim after two home inspectors and two roofers confirmed it had hail damage. State Farm adjuster couldn't see it. Sad to say they are as bad if not worse than Allstate. Maybe they should use their advertising money to pay their policyholders' claims."

"They simply won't budge on the value of my car that they totaled. I produced quite a bit of evidence that I keep my cars in near-immaculate condition, but State Farm said that none of that counted. One owner Doesn't count Detailing every year Oil changes 3x as often as BMW says I need to. Doesn't count I've been on the phone with them for hours. They said that Texas law prohibits them from giving me even a penny more. I said so if I post this on social media, it's correct to say that the State of Texas restricts you Well, not exactly. So, if the state doesn't restrict you, we can negotiate the value of the car. No. It's fixed. This is not the insurance company I had 30 years ago. They have changed--and for the worse."

"State Farm decided they would DROP our homeowners insurance after we filed 2 claims that were over a YEAR apart. Both of the claims were completely out of our hands and were caused by Mother Nature and then another party. How greedy does an insurance company have to be to drop you after ONLY two claims Just goes to show that the insurance business is NOTHING but a scam and run by the worst of the absolute worst human garbage this planet has to offer. DO NOT buy anything from State Farm."

"State Farm is garbage. Their lower tier employees are trash. This is a real person giving a real review. I had them for about 13 months from 713 - 8-14 and I had 2 auto policies with them as well as home insurance. For no reason atvall, and I mean literally FOR NO REASON whatsoever, they booted me from their coverage. I had just sent in payment for both vehicles and about a week later they sent a letter saying my coverage was being terminated. This company is a rip-off and will lowball each and every claim they get. Stay away"

"I have had State Farm Auto coverage for 30 years and am very irritated with them right now. On Monday, August 6, my car was totaled by a hail storm. I filed my claim Monday night. Other insurance companies have set up places for people to bring their vehicles for claims. Not State Farm. I have called them several times and all they say is We will call you in a few days. Well, I need my car claim taken care of now, not in a few days or whenever they feel like calling."

"They don't want to pay claims. I had a small water leak inside my home and because it was a small one that did lots of damage over time they did not pay it even though I had been with them over 30 years. They sent me a copy out of their policy that said they don't pay for slow leaks. It was in my shower and there was no way you could tell."

"What ever happened to State Farm... once upon a time they were a good and reputable company, now its all about the Benjamins. Recently, my step daughter was hit from behind by a driver that was pulling into a gas station at a high rate of speed and probably not paying attention. My stepdaughter was slowly backing up at the time as she is a safe driver... no accidents, no tickets, after logging 10,000 plus miles. She was backing up after seeing that it was all clear, but she did not see the rapidly approaching vehicle that was turning into the lot at a high rate of speed. She heard a beep from the back-up camera's warning device and quickly stepped on the brake to stop she was moving at approximately 2 miles per hour, backing away from a gas pump. The car that hit her was going somewhere between 15 and 20MPH or possibly more. There was damage to the back bumper of her van... minimal, but visible. Approx. 900 worth of damage. The women who hit my stepdaughter's van apologized profusely... and said she was sorry for hitting her... and that she had insurance that would pay for the damages. She handed over her insurance card also State Farm to exchange information and then left the scene, and once again apologizing for the hitting her... and said that she had to go. My step-daughter called our insurance agent immediately from the site of the fender bender... to start a claim and report the incident. She also called my wife and I... and we were all on the line with her and our agent, as my stepdaughter gave a detailed statement about what had happened. It was a multi-way conversation and the agent said that it would be handled quickly and professionally. Then a State Farm agent called her later that day at the house to review her statement about what happened and take it for a second time. My wife and I are both witnesses to that phone call. My stepdaughter told the agent that she was very slowly backing up, 2 MPH.. with her foot on the brake...heard a beep, came to a quick stop and was hit from behind by car that came in at a high rate of speed. I thought it would be a quick resolution, but it was not. After weeks and numerous calls to various claim agents to find out about the status of the claim, State Farm agents claimed that my step daughter never gave a statement. They also said that she was at fault. But how could they determine fault if they claim she never gave a statement So she had to call again and make a statement for a third time... and then, with another agent, for a fourth time over the phone. State Farm insisted that the liability of the accident was with my step-daughter as she was backing up and insisted that I pay the 500 deductible as the van is insured under my name. I asked that they review the case given that she said she stopped and was hit from behind... and that the vehicle entering the gas station parking lot came in at a high rate of speed. The State Farm agent said they would look into it once my stepdaughter gave a statement about what happened for the record. Note that I am furious at this point as she had already given four statements to the claim agents. Weeks later, they had to interview her yet again this time making a recording of her statement, as they said there was no record of a statement ever being given. then they informed me that her statement had not changed... This was odd, as they claimed that they had no prior statements. So, here we were, going on 7 weeks, and five statements given to agents... and still no definitive resolution. My stepdaughter had to call one more time and give yet another statement to a claim agent higher up in the corporate food chain... some sort of team leader. In the end, State Farm insisted that the fault lie with the person backing up... even if they came to a stop, and even if they were hit from behind. That's Ridiculous Shoddy and incomplete accident scene investigation is very common with State Farm from what I am told, and this was a convenient excuse for them not to pay the entire bill to fix the van which is in perfect shape, save for the damage from the accident, and an excuse for them to raise their rates.. which they did. Look, it's not about the money. I had been with State Farm for a long time with three vehicles insured and a homeowners policy-- a loyal customer for 35 plus years. I've paid in approximately a quarter of a million dollars in insurance premiums over that time, and had very few claims... peanuts... and paid my deductible without ever complaining. Given that my stepdaughter is relatively young and now had an accident, our insurance premium on the van just doubled... and all after being a safe driver and having someone hit her from behind. The company loves to raise rates in this way, its a scam. So many people warned me about State Farm over the years, and I didn't listen. Now that my step-daughter has an accident on her record, even though someone hit her from the back, and now my insurance rates will be affected. I would have accepted a no-fault find here... but they would not even consider that. They made the decision based on what's best for them... what will earn them the most in terms of revenues based on rates and whatnot. Their Claim Agent Team Leaders are all about making the company more money... doing what's best for them. It's really unfair, especially for someone who worked so diligently at being a safe driver... completing driver education and the State Farm safe driver program for young drivers with flying colors. In my opinion, State Farm Insurance is all about the money... but they will no longer get any of mine... and my step-daughter will never forget the outcome of this claim. I have switched companies and encourage others to do so. Stay Away From State Farm Buyer beware Rates are much better elsewhere anyway. Try Geico, All State, Progressive or Farmers for quotes... they are all way better companies from what people tell me... and from what I've read. Should have looked into switching companies long ago, would have saved a bundle. State Farm's services are way too expensive, and their supposed multi-car discounts are a joke. So many people have told me about their dealings with State Farm, and that they are a corporation that is money driven and dollar-sign oriented. They seem to care more about maximizing their revenues and profits than about people. My step-daughter and I feel that we were treated unfairly. To top it off, when I cancelled my auto policies with them, the secretary was rude and sarcastic. The more I read about their company, the more I find negative comments about the way they do business, and the way they treat people. Their claims department was horrible and the experience of dealing with them was very negative. This thing dragged on for almost two months. I'm writing this, so others can be aware of their priorities. Who's got your back when it comes to Auto Insurance Not State Farm... that's for sure."

"I had home insurance with State Farm. The home was owned by a girlfriend and myself. I paid all the insurance premiums and was on the policy from day one. We had a storm damage claim after 10 years of coverage. My girlfriend told State Farm that I no longer was a co owner of the property and State Farm canceled the claim checks and reissued them in just her name. I fought with agents all the way up to the CEO of State Farm and got nowhere. I would never use State Farm again"

"They quoted a UTV incorrectly and after 5 months of insurance premiums paid, they told me prices were not correct so they charged me for back payments. I told them I should not have pay back premiums because the person writing it up put ATV instead of UTV. I would think the VIN would red flag clerical errors. I did not get a call back from our local agent like I was told I would. I hope others get told the correct amount for the insurance so 5 months later they won't have to pay back premiums."

"After three years with State Farm, I needed roadside assistance. In his pathetic, bumbling attempts to fix the problem he failed -- I had to do it myself the next day, the mechanic broke the driver's side adhesive between the window and the actuation slot. It's a simple repair, less than 100, yet BOTH State Farm and their subcontracted roadside assistance company continued to pretend to be as nice as could be while utterly FAILINGREFUSING to fix the damage they caused. Hence my opinion of State Farm as LIARS, CHEATS, and THIEVES."

"Denied my first homeowners claim after 22 years because my fridge leaked and ruined my hardwood floor, but apparently overnight is immediately enough. Basicly told me I would have to walk in with water all over. It leaked about 2 cups every time the ice maker kicked on, about every 2 hrs. According to them this isn't sudden enough to justify paying the claim."

"My recent auto claim process was worse than I could ever imagine. I never received an accurate repair estimate or cost to replace my vehicle. State Farm inflated repair costs to total a vehicle. My body shop found over 800 costs in the estimate for damages that could not be identified. Despite 5 requests, State Farm refused to correct the estimate. They were not using Missouri law excluding airbag costs in their calculation. The representative had no idea. The value of my vehicle was never calculated correctly. The first valuation only considered one seller. When I visited the dealer and talked price I was told they rarely make discounts as large as those shown on the appraisal. Closer comps I had identified and provided were ignoted. The second request included only two comparables, one more than 850 miles away State Farm refused to consider nearby vehicles I identified which were exact makemodelcoloryear and very close in mileage. And worst of all, every time I would advise of these issues they were never documented so each contact was starting over. I was forced to settle due to duress of needing a car to drive. This is how they treat a customer of 35 years"

"I had a claim on water damage and after they sent an adjustor out with NO communication about it further, and they did not address 2 of the things i asked them to, they just mailed me a check. The paper that was sent along with it to supposedly explain what it covered, was filled with insurance jargon and some of them just had initials. ExampleRAR was to remove and repair. How was I supposed to know that I don't work for an insurance company. When i called to talk to someone, the guy acted like I ewas an idiot for not knowing what he heck it was talking about. Still don't have anything fixed and it happened in january. No help at all. The first person i gave my claim to gave me a long and detailed explanation about this company that did nothing but check to see if there were matches available out there for flooring. I never recieved any info about it. After I recieved the check and called, that guy said they do not search for matching flooring, the only thing that company does is give them a cost per square foot for the flooring you have. Which they then depreciate, even though it was just over 3 years old. So they don't cover the actual cost of getting a new floor. My agent has changed so many times in the 3 12 years I've had it, I didn't even know who it was. When I figured it out, no communication with agent at all. Currently lookijng for a new company based on customer satisfaction."

"I have a house in North Carolina that has been for sale for the last five years. A renter was in an apartment above the garage until two years ago. The garage with the apt. Is not directly attached to the main house. My realtor promised to take care of the house since I live in another state in the West. My landscape person noticed a leak at my well and in looking for a way to shut off the pump he went into the garage and heard a drip from the apt. upstairs. Low and behold, he found the apartment totally covered in MOLD. The damage from the mold is so extensive that all furniture is destroyed and the whole apartment must be gutted. Wonderful State Farm will NOT cover any of the damages. Their reason is that it has been a long standing problem drip from the shower and they do not cover maintenance problems. Why do I have insurance I have been with State Farm for over 40 years and have never made a claim on any home insurance. In those 40 years I owned a large ranch with 11 buildings and State Farm has received over 400,000 in insurance premiums from me with 0 claims. I am outraged and will be dropping ALL my insurance with State Farm. Do not buy any of their insurance"

"Hail storm 2 years ago , an adjuster came from who knows , I wasn't home when he came , he said my roof was fine it wasn't leaked water and I told him that , he said he will replace siding, but not whole house ,just front , one side and back. The other NO and that one was the worst side , hold on , they would put a siding on but I would have to call a painting CO to come and paint my siding. Like we are not busy enough , and to paint my deck . nothing worry with deck. So I have had roofing and siding company come out , and the price they are giving me is way more the SF gave me. So I keep looking and more of the same , now my 2 year end on May 5th . haven't done it yet cause they look at me like I am crazy. I called the claims guy a few time but nothing. What happens do I lose that money what about if there is another bad storm and more damage do the pay for that too , or no since I haven't done anything form the 1st time."

"MY RECOMMENDATION DON'T BUY STATE FARM On two occasions, 2 years apart, my car was struck by another vehicle, State Farm never contacted the other carrier, I did all the work to recover damages - repeated calls to State Farm were met with we are working on it, no need for repeated calls. Finally I received a letter from State Farm stating since I did call their closing the case And when I was rear-ended the other driver said I backed into him on a 6 lane road but did not what any money that would be insurance fraud, so State Farm said I had to prove he hit me. When I said that 1200 worth of damage to my truck trailer hitch and bumper was my proof, they said prove that it wasn't damaged previously I have been with the company for 20 years and never caused and accident. They only care, in my opinion, about money."

"I am on disability and my husband gets paid every two weeks and of course we have our regular household expenses but the main thing is my husband hasn't worked since April 26, 2016 due to an accident on his job then he had back surgery on June 26, 2016 and has not returned to work as of this time. Basically we are living from check to check. This morning September 29, 2016 before daybreak a terrible thunder storm came up abruptly and lightning struck something very close to our garage where we live which is another long story. The boom was so loud it shook the building and the flash of lightning was extremely bright. My husband, mother and I got out of bed and smelled smoke, my husband hurriedly got dressed and began checking things then went out side and he came back in crying due to the fact that the loud noise had frightened our beagle so bad that he had a heart attack. He went back outside to check on things and found that the electric fence for our horses was melted, insulators had been blown off the fence post, the electric fence box had melted then he came back inside to check thoroughly and found the cordless phone partially melted, the tv, cable box does not work and the washing machine smells like smoke when it's turned on. After doing all this he called State Farm claim office and spoke with a lady and she asked all sorts of questions that he answered then he left to go get the necessary items to repair our electric fence and he went by our local State Farm office and was told we hadn't had homeowners or vehicle coverage since August 2016 and we haven't received anything in the mail stating this. He was basically told that we would have to Eat any losses. I would like to know why we were not notified of the issue What has happened to customer service among any service providers It really breaks my heart to know that this is what is becoming of America"

They are just too eager to go through their script, you ask them back simple questions, they don't know the answer. Most of the time you'll get, that's another department, I'm in a different department or some other senseless, asinine, annoying answer that's obviously coming-from somebody clueless."

They change your deductible without your knowledge, We sold our boat, cancelled the coverage, in the office, and found out 6 months later they put it back on and charged us for it and would not give a refund. After a fire in an outbuilding, they cancelled our homeowners insurance."

"Wife hit a deer and totaled her car. Called insurance man, got estimate, and was told it was a total loss. Insurance man said we would get a packet in the mail with all the documents we needed to process the claim. Got the packet in the mail missing half of the required documents. Called State Farm and was told I didn't need some of the forms. A couple of days go by and I haven't heard anything from them, so I call them back. Now I need those documents I was told I didn't and they have to UPS them to me. A few more days go by and I get the documents, fill them out, and mail them in. A few more days go by, still no calle-mail from them. I call again and am told they got the documents and if everything checks out, payment will be issued the next day. I call the next day and payment will now be issued the next day. I really believe State Farm needs to handle everything by themselves instead of using 3rd party claims teams. It is really frustrating to be told something different each time you call."

Victims of a head-on collision with at-fault driver insured by State Farm as well. Injuries are permanent and lifelong. There will always be pain from injuries. More surgeries may be necessary. In 1997 I purchased my first home. At the end of 2014 there was a storm that came through causing hail damage to my siding and roof. State farm came out on Sunday morning and agreed with the damage and stated that they would pay. Talk about bad luck about 5 hours after the adjuster left my home caught on fire. State farm and fire department did a investigation and determined it was a faulty battery charger and they would be going after the company. Then state farm notifies me that I would be dropped. Reason??? two claims in one day.....Really??? But then they try to talk me into keeping my car policies with them. Oh and by the way once a company drops you they consider you high risk.....Going to cost me thousands of dollars extra a year now. Thanks State Farm..."

I had been haggling with the claims adjuster for 5 days about my total loss valuation. It did not include everything I believe it should. The adjuster refused to include the registration costs of the vehicle. I referenced law 10-4-639 in Colorado which states insurers should pay the registration fees. The adjuster still refused to cover $560.66 that I paid in registration fees. He pressured me into taking the offer without the registration fees. In other words, he broke the law"

My e-mails always get forwarded to one of her staff members. I thought agents were knowledgeable about all aspects of insurance - but this one isn't. The claims process was a real headache because I relied upon what one of the staff members told me to do BEFORE I filed a claim. Turns out, that was bad advice, and then I was in the end of the field as far as getting contractors lined up to do the work needed. A real mess - would not recommend this company to anyone."

"We have been with State farm for over 25 years made a couple claims. This year we bought a used rv toy hauler the frig caught on fire and did some damage it was a recall but we never got a recall cause we bought it in Dec, of 2014 and it caught fire in April 2015 luckily no one was in it and got hurt. State farms policies state they are not liable for any defective parts but will assume responsibility for the damages it causes, so they would take care of the damages but not replace the 5,000.00 frig but they couldn't move forward because they didn't want to contaminate the evidence because they wanted norcold the refrigerator company to except responsibility for all of it. So instead of having it repaired and doing a suborgation on it they did nothing. Meanwhile we were out 240.00 a week for motels cause my husband uses the trailer for his work plus still having to make payments on it. We called state farm repeatedly had to speak to numerous people that could not answer anything honestly, they never returned phone calls we had to all norcold and get the ball rolling. The man from norcold said that state farm wouldn't return his calls and that he had to start doing emails so he would have records of trying to reach them, what a frigging nightmare Finally in Nov, they release the rv dealership to start working on it, we picked it up in Oct and found out then state farm was suborgating it why did it take 6 months???? They are just wanting to get their part of the money back so they are not out anything but what about our money?? and the crap they put us through my husband and I have had several heated discussions over this it has become a bad subject needless to say. State farm is trying to get our 1,000. deductable back but what about the 7,500. we were out let alone we missed the whole summer and didn't get to use it for recreation let alone what we bought it for.We cancelled all of our insurance with them, we are over 50 so we went to aarp and it was a fraction of what they were charging us so much for loyalty we thought they was giving us a good deal but instead they gave us the shaft"

SF decided that it was not technically a flood situation, but that I didn't have adequate drainage for the water that flooded, er, I mean entered, my house. On the other hand, when things happened that they had to cover, they did not raise our rates outrageously and over time the rates came back down. "

I called to file a claim on it and was told that I would have to file on my homeowners policy by 2 different "Team" members. One said he had been in the collision department for 2 years and no one had ever filed a contents claim. Mitchell valuation sent a value on the camper, subtracting options that are actually on our camper significantly reducing the value of our camper. You can't negotiate with anyone, we go through email and they continue to ignore all the options I sent them, while still subtracting them from the comparison campers. It's been over a month and no settlement in sight. They don't answer emails, I always include my phone number but they don't call. There is no attempt to settle on their end. I haven't had problems with the car insurance claims, but the only claim I made for the house was for the damage to the roof and aluminum siding from hail and wind. They sent a 21 yrs. old from Wisconsin to Ohio to tell me the damage wasn't from the storm but from someone walking on the roof. It's a 1/2 story house and I'm over 60 years old. No one has been having any parties on my roof. It is too steep to stand on. He did acknowledge the dents in the siding and the metal roof vents. I got a little over $400 to pay for over $5000 bill. And that's just for the roof. I don't know what the siding is going to cost me. Yeah the company has a lot of money. That's because the collect but don't pay out when they should. I later found out they are known for not paying for the damages from a very reliable source. Look elsewhere friend. Keep shopping. I am. "

I recently realized how high my State farm Insurance was getting and shopped around to other companies our three vehicles and home owners insurance. No one will touch us because that one accident showed up as three accidents. Two accidents a week before that never happened and the one accident that did happen. Now without a police report available I can't fight this thing even though my local rep said it was their fault for getting both the dates wrong and the number of accidents. "State farm is a scam. They said that they could not give any more discounts for us. We were with them for 20 years and still paying almost 450/Mo. for insurance. Since we moved they wanted to raise our insurance to 575 or so just because we moved to Texas from Kansas but before we moved they promised us that our insurance would go down. Well it went up. Before we moved we paid our 6 month premium in full and lost our money. We ended up getting dropped due to no payment. We took the receipt to them and they said "I'm sorry about that I will get that fixed right away." She left and when she came back into her office she told us that she would not be able to give us all our discounts that we had prier to there mess up. But they did finely find the funds so that make it all ok right? So our insurance is going from 450 to just over 500 just because y'all lost our payment? All they could say was we are sorry. Well to me that does not justify them messing up. Just before we moved we ended up totaling our car because someone in a truck rear ended us. My wife had to have surgery and other medical needs and i lost my ability to speak and most of my memory. Due to that wreck I am unable to work now and they were only willing to pay out 36000 total. All we were asking for is 50000 total after lawyer fees. After all the issues with state farm we dropped them and went to allstate and that dropped our insurance from 575ish to 275/Mo. The bad part is that we even added full coverage on my truck full coverage on our new jeep and liability on my bike. I would say if you are with state farm switch to allstate and save money."

"I have two major issues. The first was a claim. I had an obvious key mark on my car. It was several circles about 1 inch in diameter. The adjuster said it was my door hitting some kind of wall and the door moved in a circular manner making the mark.Next. I had a more expensive sports car. I was told that the premium won't go down each year due to depreciation. Okay fine. However I switched to a less expensive luxury 4 door Japanese sedan. My premium for collision went up How did that happen? Well my agent couldn't tell me. This car is also among the safest cars according to my research online. I concluded that they just want to keep increasing my premium each year regardless of the car I drive. Bs"

"In March 2014 I was involved in a car accident which i was not at fault. I am suffering an injury that has caused for me to receive surgery and I currently have limitations of lifting and is in need of home help services and my vehicle was damaged and deemed a total loss by the collision shop that attempted to repair it.I was told that since I did not use their select auto company that I was on my own with the repairs. The vehicle is not drivable I had to volunteer surrender my vehicle back to the finance company. At this time I have not received any benefits from my claims they will not even reimburse me for my home help services in which my doctors have given them a script that indicates I qualify and is in need of the service. It has been a long 7 months and they refuse to meet my needs. This is my first and only claim that I have ever filed since I started with them 8 years ago. Once my claims are settled when ever that is I am switching A.S.A.P And I was told by others that this insurance is the worst in Michigan"

"Two years ago they increased our premium on our home 20% just because they could. We have had no claims in 11 years of being a policyholder with State Farm. Two days ago we received a letter from them that stated the premium will increase another 10% this year. Because this exceeds the rate set by the NC Insurance Commission State Farm wants us to sign a waiver saying it's okay for them to charge us more than allowed by law. Yeah right."

"I was rear ended about a month ago while waiting at a stop light on an off ramp. I had not experienced anything like this before so after I called the police I called my insurance company. I had many questions but unfortunately did not receive very much help. They did get a rental for me and helped guide me to a preferred body shop but outside of that I was on my own. I had just purchased my car about 6 months before the accident. It had 24000 miles on it when I purchased the car and was still under warranty. So I asked about diminished value of the vehicle and they seemed annoyed when I asked out it. I explained that there was over 10000 worth of damage to my vehicle and said this shows up on car fax. Their response was "who looks at the car fax". Finally they told me to bring that up with the other insurance company. When I explained that I felt like there werent helping me they said that the accident was not my fault and they had to work extra hard to cover the claim for me. In the end they told me I should have contacted the other insurance company. I asked them if I should call the other insurance company in the beginning and they told me they could not answer that question. They have been talking in circles this whole time and Im beginning to think I would have been treated better by the other insurance company. Definitely switching as soon as everything is settled and never going back."

After 48 years with State Farm and one claim for 375 43 years ago they cancelled my policy. I attempted to reinstate but the premium quotes were nearly double what I had been paying. I called Geico and to my surprise was able to more than double my coverage limits for less payment than I previously had at State Farm Now you know. "

Sixty days later I get a letter stating that the policy would not be renewed because of the claim filed. WHAT CLAIM? I asked a question decided the deductible would be more that it would cost to get window fixed. Now I'm told it can't be removed because claim was started when I called and asked question. I didn't even call claim office. I called my agent and the call rolled over. Now I'm getting all kinds of run around. Asked for this policy in writing and noone seems to know where to find in company rules that an inquiry can turned into a claim on a whim."

"When tenants all but destroyed my house State Farm really put up a fight to not pay out for the repairs but when the same tenant LIED about an injury supposedly incurred on my property they were quick to say they were going to pay him off. I insisted they investigate and because they actually investigated they found the guy to be a fraud and his attorney dropped him. And then State Farm forbade me to ever rent out my home again or they would drop me. I sold the home and no longer needed the insurance. My daughter and I moved in with my parents. I need their help because of her disability while I return to school.I've had State Farm since I was 15 years old. After some 20 odd years minus an insignificant speeding ticket or two over those years I was involved in two minor fender benders approximately 11 months apart so they dropped me. I was quickly reinsured with another company. This was a few months ago. Today they called my parents to tell them they are sending a letter that we must all sign agreeing that because I don't have State Farm insurance I can't drive my parents' vehicles. This is just a kick in the stomach and completely absurd to me. Their vehicles are so run down that my parents more often rely on my vehicle to get around - I very rarely even need to drive their vehicles unless I'm dropping it off at the mechanic's for them.I need to pick up my life insurance through another company because it seems to me that should something happen to me State Farm has no intention of paying out."

"I have been a long-time Insurance customer of State Farm. I have had my cars house and condo insured through State Farm.Recently I've been very annoyed.I bought a car back in January and requested to get it insured. I also sold one of my cars and asked to get it removed. Two weeks later no insurance card and the online account still shows my old car is insured and my new car is not.So I contacted my agent who said it take 7-10 business days. Okay fine I wait some more and two weeks later 4 weeks from when I asked for the changes still no sign that I'm insured on my online account or in the form of an actual insurance card.So I contact my agent again and she said that she pushed it in back in January and that State Farm must be backlogged. Backlogged by 4 weeks to insure a car and remove a car from the policy -- what's wrong with this company? This is 2013... everything is electronic these days.Anyhow so I decide to wait some more. And now another two weeks have passed 6 weeks now and still my old car is on my policy and my new car is not insured.Of course my agent assures me that even though my new car doesn't show up on my policy I'm properly insured. Unfortunately I'm expected to have faith that I'll be insured should I get into an accident with no written proof from State Farm that I'm insured.Getting a car insured should not take over 1 1/2 months in the year 2013. Maybe if we were in 1913 I'd understand if it was a long-drawn process where several underwriters and whatnot needs to approve of it. But geez this is 2013. I'm trying to insure a 2011 Mercedes. I'm a 37 year old driver and have never had one claim against State Farm Insurance for the many years I've been insured with them. How hard can this be?"

"I have been with this company over 25 years. I filed my first claim after over 19 years with the company during a windstorm which was deemed to be a federal disaster and received only a couple thousand dollars to patch a roof when a tree branch speared it. Over 6 years later I filed a claim for a broken water pipe. They stated they would not tell me whether or not it was covered until I opened a claim. When I did they denied coverage for the water pipes but paid about 3000 for wood damage. They also required that I open a second claim no second event just a second claim for additional wood damage charging me a second deductible as well. Then the sent me a notice of non-renewal because I had "too many claims" -- a total of 3 which should only have been 2 in over 25 years. The total paid on my claims was 6500 - a fraction of what I have paid them over the years. I have also had car insurance with them all this time and have NEVER had a car accident or any incident other than the replacement of my windshield when a construction truck threw a rock on the freeway. Great company - no loyalty on their part whatsoever refusal to pay when there is a claim and then making it hard to get more insurance. "

When I paid only liability it was 97 a month. I got a new car and got full coverage and it is now 180 a month. I am 19 and just recently filed my first claim. I got hail damage on my Car and called her and she sent me to a state farm catastrophe center. In less than an hour they gave me an estimate for the damage and wrote me a check. It was very EASY. "Area was hit with widespread hail storm in 2009. Over 90% of houses in our area have had roofs already replaced by insurance due to hail damage. State Farm did pay to fix the the flashings gutters downspouts flues and holes in vinyl siding but after several rounds of adjusters inspectors and agents we finally got a measly 175 out of them to replace our hail damaged roof. Incredible that SF found no roof damage but the storm punched holes through my siding and two independent sources have told me I have hail damage to my roof. So that leaves me stuck with the remaining 7000 if I want to fix my roof before it leaks. I could sue them but the odds of getting any money out of the ordeal is minimal and life is too short for that. I am just going to switch insurance companies at this point."

By summer nearly everyone in our street had a new roof or was under contract. Except the State Farm customers. Since the storm our roof has begun to leak quote from adjuster hail doesnt cause leaks and ice is soft and this was pea sized hail. All lies. My daughter even took photos of the hail 1.5-2. The reason State Farm has annual multi-billion dollar profits is because they are excellent at collecting your premiums and then are not there to pay out under contracted losses. Isnt that we we buy insurance in the first place My warning to you do not pick State Farm."

Not only are their premiums twice as much as the competitive market rates but the company immediately began threatening to cancel our coverage when our house was burglarized. The only customer care that I received is a number of phone calls to convince me that I should raise my coverage amount thereby increasing the already too high premium. Two weeks ago I received a terse letter from State Farm notifying me that they decided to cancel my home insurance coverage. No reason given. No option to appeal. No anything. They were very efficient in notifying my mortgage bank that they are canceling the coverage so that the bank could panic and warn me that I better get a homeowners insurance or else. The agent had already given me the go-ahead to get repairs and rental but claims had to make things difficult. They change their rules when it suits them and make up stuff just to get you out of their hair. "This company even you provide them with the appropriate paper work will not just wiggle but worm their way out of paying. My husband and I have never missed a payment and when we filed for a hail storm and the damage is evident they bring up all kinds of excuses. On top of the excuses they state that we would have to pay up front certain cost but with prove that the work was done which we did pay and proved that the work was done as any reasonalbe person would expect they keep their word and reimburst the cost they go back on their word. I think a lawyer is in order and whoever monitors these companys should take a look on the activities of this company. I dont know much about the law but ethically this company is truly a rip off. Please if you read this heed the advice and do not contract this company as your insurance provider for home or anything else. Thank you for rading."

"This company puts warm and fuzzy folks on the retail end and has good marketing good neighbor family safety. On the claims end you have compulsive liars and will face a wall of denial plausible denial altered recollection and bizarre and conflicting reasons for denying your claim or paying little or nothing in my opinion. They actually are a causal factor in making vehicles unsafe by denying costs and claims to make vehicles safe and have them inspected post collision. The agents say one thing covered and claims adjustor say another not covered. It is a actually a good business model--take in claims and pay out very little or nothing on valid claims and delay or fight them till hell freezes over.I wish I could invest and profit from their methods because I have sent them money for years and know if something happens there will be two accidents 1 the actual accident and 2 the tragedy of trying to collect from State Farm. Guaranteed. If you have ever worked with them on claims you know there are two tragedies --the accident and trying to work with them."

If ppl are having problems getting them to settle claims it has to be because they think its a phony claim. I found my house had been broken into and several high dollar items missing from my living room monday morning. By Tuesday afternoon State Farm settled my claim 4700.00and mailed my check out the next morning. The first time my computer shut down. Found out it would be more to fix than replace. I called State Farm and the next day I picked up a check for enough to replace the computer then some. I love them and would recommend them to everyone I know. "

While I was sitting there pending the State Road Worker to clear my auto to proceed another Auto came from behind me on a straight stretch of road rear-ending me pushing my auto right into the State Road worker..The Other driver also had the very same Insurance Agent and Insurance as myself State Farm.. The other driver was cited by the State Police and found At Fault...Nevertheless State Farm claimed that since my auto was struck I was now considered a HIGH RISK I never had an accident nor even a parking ticket in my 18years of driving.. I had been with State Farm for 18 years.. State Farm Increased my Auto Insurance 8 times my normal rate... Since I had all of my insurance through State Farm State Farm also even increased my homeowners insurance 8 times my normal rate health insurance 8 times my normal rate etc... It was insane...And to top it off It took State Farm over 8 years and a Court Order to settle not ONLY my claim for the other driver hitting my auto from the rear but the State Road Worker even had to get a Court Order also.. Trust Me.. You DO NOT WANT State Farm as a Neighbor They are NO GOOD "

Much later we had flood conditions and my roof leaked and caused a lot of damage I was told that my roof damage by water was not covered but the hail damage was. I tried to explain that how would I know I had a leak caused by hail until it rained. My response was read the fine print, knowing hail damage occurred was my responsibility even though my roofer sided with me State Farm Was NOT there again. I have many other stories just like this one. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. My pool equipment was damaged recently and the only thing that State Farm covers is if hail damaged my equipment, and nothing else. What are the chances of hail doing this. I was paid promptly and fairly for the totaled car. The other two vehicles were fixed at a place of my choice and State Farm paid the repair facilities directly. Since none of these accidents were my fault, there was no out of pocket expense for me. The stolen vehicle was paid for after 4 weeks, which is State Farm’s policy, since they would not want to pay for a vehicle and then find it immediately. The price was very fair and they politely negotiated with me when I asked to have them consider some additional add-ons I had made. In fact, since the vehicle was only three years old and had extremely low millage, the payout was actually what I originally paid for the vehicle new, minus sales tax; I was very pleased. The home claim was also very fair as well and they replaced everything that had been stolen! "

The accused me of having pre-existing damage and initially declined to repair the front end of my car when I was the 2nd car in a four car accident (and pushed into the car in front of me). State Farm created tremendous delays in the repair process by not showing up in a timely manner to reinspect the car and continuing to delay the process to wear you and the repair facility down to accept their lower estimate (and a lower quality of repair)."

I had one auto accident during a heavy rain storm and my wife was involved in two accidents, both not her fault. We had one claim on our home, after a hail storm damaged our roof and cost about $2,200.00 in repairs. We had a $500.00 deductible so they covered $1,700.00 We moved out and are currently attempting to sell our home, State Farm refuses to cover our home while it not occupied. Five years later he totaled his own car.. Both occurrences State Farm paid less then 90% of the cost of replacement. The comparables were bogus. Had there been a single comparable auto for sale we would have purchased it. We had to put a couple thousand dollars with the payoff amount to replace the cars."

I faxed and I faxed and I faxed prior proof of insurance, still wasnt good enough, called my old insurance company(state farm did) to verify I had insurance for the dates they wanted(a year back) I replaced vehicles since that policy. gave me a hard time because the cars I have now werent insured(didnt own them then) gave me a hard time about proving people didnt live in my house..I dont know the people..I hit a deer, they cancelled me..for running the deer down and hitting it on purpose...I have been waiting a very long time for my check to fix my car..I cant get comp. and collision on it till the repairs are done...there were several other outragous things with state farm...would i recommend them to anyone NOT IN THIS LIFE TIME OR THE NEXT..and if anyone thinks any part of this is un true I can verify each and every word I just wrote"

Was concern so I had Goodyear check it out because it had a noise but the adjuster could not hear it. The used part they got had a wear out balljoint in front tire. The front tire may have fallen off. Goodyear found that the front Strut was damaged and making noise they. SF wants me to paid for the part and they paid for installation. "

"I have had State Farm Insurance on my autos since 1995. I also have a couple life policies and I used to also have health and home owners insurance. I recently placed a claim through my car insurance policy. I have not even had an adjuster assigned to my claim and I am already treated like a criminal. The claims representative that I had to deal with was not only rude but was accusing me of trying to put a claim through a policy that was not mine. I gave him the policy number thinking he was looking at the wrong screen and he reassured me that I was the one that was wrong. I told him I had my insurance card in front of me with my name on it and he told me I was wrong and that was not what he had on his screen. I cannot understand why I am being treated so rudely by my own insurance company. They never have a problem collecting my premiums or increasing my rates when they felt in need. Why should I pay an insurance company like State Farm to take my money on a monthly basis and then feel intimidated when you need to put a claim through. If this is how I am treated when placing an auto claim, I would hate to see how my relatives will be treated if they would unfortunately need to put a claim through one of our life insurance policies. I am so unhappy right now, I wish I would have invested all these years with a more reputable company. The ironic thing is that there slogan is "like a good neighbor, State Farm is there". I have had good neighbors and the customer service I received today was far from what they preach during there commercials."

I am 63 days into a claim (my first after 23 years of being a State Farm insurer), after two assessments, and a structural engineers study, I am not able to begin repairs. The initial check recieved was unsigned, and totaled less than 1/2 of the repair costs. My assessor "lost" his cell phone and was unable to respond for days, and a second "assessment" harrassed my contractor over price (without concern of the house being properly repaired) and provided an increase of the assessment insuffiecent to begin repairs. I received a call today that they would like to send another assessor. Well after spending three days of my time, working with contractors to for quotes, and the resultant assessment costs being insuffiecent to start reconstruction, I am getting an attorney and going to the state insurance commisioner. State Farm, no way, these people either do not care about there customers, are complete amatures, or are totally incompetent. Otherwise, I like statefarm. I stay with state farm because my reprentative is very honest with me and there are no gimics!"

"After tornado damage they would not cover damage to a section of the roof that did not apear damaged. The section of the roof leaked like a sieve and state farm suggested it was a workmanship issue. This is wrong becouse the roof was 12 years old and had never leaked until the tornado passed by. When i expained to the local ageant, he said he could not help me becouse he is not an employee of state farm."

I think this would happen with any insurance carrier. Now my rates are very competitive with other respectable insurance carriers. You really need to have a good agent who will be honest about all of the discounts. State Farm is a discount game. If you are not getting all of the discounts for which you are eligible, you unnecessarily be paying much higher premiums. One of the people appeared to act as an adjuster; said he would write up and send to me a claim estimate. Did not state his position with the company; did not introduce himself, or leave a card. After two weeks, a new group came out; no introductions, said were to measure and order the window and would be 4-weeks before delivery. After 2-weeks still have not received the estimate for repairs; I had to secure my home and had the door replaced and paid out of pocket for it. Recently my homeowners rates have been increasing rapidly, (no claims), compared to what other companies seem to offer for comparable coverage. I also find it insulting that with claim free and multi-line discounts they are still hundreds of dollars higher. Suspect that there is an actuarial table somewhere that says if minimal claims in 35 yrs then he is probably due to file so lets jack the rates and take the money and run. Even though they have always been there for I can not longer afford double and triple the rate of their competitors. I would have paid more, just not that much. Feels like a divorce."

We were tolded that our roof was defective because support brackets were missing. Therefore they would not pay to have it repaired. The area of the roof they had removed, leaked. We ended up having to replace the decking shingles and repair the ceiling inside. So in my my opinion State Farm spend more money to get out paying than it would have cost to fix it. And in addition they just added extra expense to us. We had been with State Farm for 25 years. "

The coverage is lower than quotes I am getting from other insurance companies, and the costs are lower at other companies as well. This was a monor bumper to bumber accident. No privious accident and no violations."

Every claim I ever had, they were immediate, pleasant and once, replaced stolen car stereo (son's) with BETTER quality than he had before. If you develop a relationship with your agent he will not do you wrong. Check around, there are plenty out there and only go with one you like."

"For years I have had my premiums automatically deducted from my bank account. I called my agent to stop the auto deductions as I wanted to control/pay the monthly premium myself with my bill pay bank account. I was told I would have to pay an extra month premium up front in order to do this. When I asked why I was being penalized for just changing the way I make payments the answer was "its company policy". I have stopped auto deductions with 3 other companies and not one of them asked for money to do so. Is this legal and what is going on?"

"My local agent is totally off the ball. She e-mails me thinking I'm a POTENTIAL client and not a current one, that my policy is about to expire when it's not, and telling me sob stories about life insurance and how I should have it even though I have it through work and I'm 29, single and in perfect health. I'm really annoyed and will probably switch as soon as my policy is up."

"I've always heard they were a great company. Apparently I did not do enough research so part of the blame falls on me, however there were specific examples used to explain what was covered such as a rental car and deductiable information. The information shared with us was very different from that of what was put into play when we needed to file a claim. Upon pulling out the agreement, they were right, technically. That's all a company needs, is a technical truth and you have nothing to stand on. SHame on me for trusting them, shame on them for taking advantage of us. I should note that the problem in this case was with the local agents, not necessarily the company as a whole. I'm currently in the process of pulling all insurance from them and moving to another company."

"I am very upset with State Farm. We recently bought a house and had a water damage claim 11 months into the year. We called and asked if we needed to file a claim or wait(it was just cabinets). Well the lady told me to file, so we did. Sure they were fast with getting an adjuster out to us and sending the payment in the mail, but 2 weeks later we got a letter saying they were canceling us.. Very upset. Isnt that what insurance is for? Isnt that why you pay the premium and deductable. For things like these. IF youve been with State Farm for years, then sure they're great. I would not reccommend them to any new home buyer or persons looking to change insurance."

Their rates have gone up sky high even without the 47 percent increase they wanted and didn't get approved for. Had I known they were so much higher than other insurance companies I would have canceled them myself years ago. "

"State Farm isn't a bad company. A lot of the good/bad experiences users have with SF (and a lot of other ins companies) can be traced back to their agent and the way the agent and their offices handle interactions with their clients. My agent is alright, but a number of factors led me to switch my auto insurance to GEICO. I would have been willing to continue paying the 20% premium of State Farm in terms of auto insurance if they could competently configure my policies and remove my parents from them-- after 10 years of owning my own vehicles, my mother and father (who are divorced) were both still on my policy. Contacting the agent's office, they pointed their fingers at corporate, who were also unable/unwilling to correct the problem. Their renter's insurance is well priced and provides great benefit for the cost and I would recommend it to anyone looking for it, however, I am reluctant to recommend State Farm as a whole because of their inability to manage products added at different times."

"Company was O.K., though somewhat expensive for the 10 years I was with them. However, when I bought a new house, my agent took it upon herself to cancel my homeowner's insurance within a few months, claiming that the presence of trees in front of the house were a hazard and that it needed a new roof. Of course I removed the trees, but there is nothing wrong with the roof as an inspection revealed. I obtained new insurance for home and autos without problems, but there was no reason for the hassle in the first place. I paid for better service than that. To top it off, the agent never bothered to cancel the policy on the house I sold. The actions of the agent were impulsive, uninformed and reek of poor customer service. Ultimately the company is only as good as the agent. "

"Home owner rates jump every quarter without even a claim. They say because it's the inflation factor built in for cost of materials and labor if so, should your house need repaired or replaced due to an unfortunate problem would occur. It's quite interesting that your home doesn't grow that fast for the actual value of the property. I feel it's another way to stick you for more money. I am now shopping for home & auto insurance. I've been with State Farm for over 20 years with my autos."

My medical is paid out of my policy and I am about to be released after six months of treatment. They call me every month and see how I'm doing. They told me that I could have massage or orthopedic consult if I wanted it. Overall I'm very satisfied. "Like most insurance companies, State Farm will make it pretty hard to get a fair claim, if a claim is filed. Also, I felt that they unfairly decided not to renew my homeowners policy, after a claim was filed for a theft. The claim was not settled for more than 9 months, and required hours and hours of work on my part. Some of the claims adjusters were helpful, and some of the senior claims adjustors found clever ways of minimizing the actual claim, by finding clauses that the agent never told me about, regarding what was covered, and what wasn't covered. Hope you never need to file a claim."

"State Farm...don’t even try! I had a water leakage coming from the water filter behind my refrigerator and the water went down the subfloor into the crawl space area. A section of the laminate floor was damage due to water absorption. We were out of the house for a week. When we came back we notice the damage and call the State Farm agent. He was very nice and told me that it should be cover...Wrong! The inspector came and denies the claim base on the exclusion for “continuous or repeated leakage or seepage of water.‣ ask for the definition of "Continuous" since for me that mean something that goes without interruption and under that meaning then NO WATER LEAKAGE AT ALL WILL BE COVER. Of course, that’s not the spirit of the exclusion but try to prove You will need a lawyer and yes you will win the case, but if , like in my case, the damage was less than 2,000 and I have a 1,000 you really want to go thru all the trouble of layers and suing? State Farm knows that if suing will not make a cost-efficient move for you they will deny your claim even if you are right. Conclusion....DON'T EVEN TRY. Like me...check another company."

I reviewed the documents and contacted my rep. and mentioned my concerns, they advised to follow her written instructions on the form, (I did so). Two weeks later the corporate office rejects the forms for the same issues I mentioned before returning the forms to my local rep. After confronting State Farm claims adjuster and questioning how the bum was injured we found they did not question the bum and was going to pay out $13,000. for medical with no questions and no hospital report or bill since he never went to a hospital and was able to drive his bike away. The state farm agent openly said "We would rather pay him off then have to go to court since it would cost us money even though it may not be true" We intend to file a complant with the department of justice. Being that I had to shop for a new Home Owners policy, I also move 7 other policies from State Farm to Nationwide."

"I am an independant adjuster. State Farm is a great company and if they don't pay your claim, it simply isn't covered. If there is way to cover the damages they will pay them. I find it amazing that people will belive a roofer over an adjuster. Roofers MAKE MONEY by selling you a roof. I've NEVER met a roofer that didn't think a roof was hail or wind damaged. Just ask a barber if you need a haircut. Same thing. As an indpendant adjuster, I get paid based on what I pay you. The more I pay the more I get paid. Why would I deny a legitimate claim?"

"I have been insured with State Farm Insurance since 1980. I have never had a problem with them. Whether I am filing a claim or just trying to find out general information, their service have always been exceptional. I was a victim of hurricane hugo in 1989 and the speed and professionalism in which state farm handled my claim exceeded my expectation. While all of my neighbors were experiencing problems with their insurance companies in filing their claims, State Farm was vigoriously proceesing my claims to insure all my repairs were done on a timely basis. These are the reasons, after 28 years I am still with them and have no intention of leaving them for another insurance company."

"An individual turned right on red in front of me. I honked horn and he hit brakes to force and accident. My bumper barely made impact. Two different people stopped and offered to be a witness. The highway patrol issued the other driver a summons for failure to yield on a right on red. We both had State Farm, I for 20 years. State Farm took 4 months to resolve and pay to fix my bumper."

I did hit her so fair enough . . .except now she said she was hurt. SF didn't even question. Total bill was around $5000 and they raised my rates $33 a month so they are not even paying for claim - I am. "

"14 years and not single claim on our house until this spring when severe weather ripped off a large number of shingles off the roof. Many other shingles were bent, etc. State Farm refused to cover it saying the roof was not installed properly 14 years ago. My State Farm agent was rude, confrontational and also felt it necessary to give me a political lecture on this years presidential election and how Obama supporters were idiots. Needless to say I was shocked and appalled by this behavior. He offered no help and was definitely not like a good neighbor. He also told me my deductible would go from $1000 to 1% of the house value. After 14 years, we're done with State Farm."

"Never filed a claim, however in reviewing a lot of comments negative and positive, one important thing to point out is state farm is a mutual company. They are not owned by shareholders, they are owned by their customers. GJ Mecherle designed this company to be customer focused and fair for each risk. If the company profits, the owners recieve dividends! Customers are the owners! I advise to read the policy and know what is covered, and keep in mind regardless of how long you've been with the company they have to be fair with everyone according to the policy"

We did that and oh what an unapologetic mess they made of it all, last month I think I got mine sorted out, but the way I ve been treated, Ive just been taken for granted, and I am shopping around. My son his is still not sorted out 6 months later and he has had about enough- would I now recommend them to anyone no, previously I did and look what happened."

However I felt my rates did not come down with time since they attached the stigma of a claim against my name even though both accidents were not my fault. I keep getting much lower rates elsewhere, but I am sure those are teaser rates , waiting to be hiked at the first accident. AT tleast here , with the auto, I am in a plan where I will not get a rate hike if I get an accident or ticket ie. my first ticket is forgivable. "

I provided all the requested information in July, March of this year I get a letter from State Farm stating that my coverage was not being renewed, agent had not done anything about changing the policy type back in July, yet it is my fault.... What a joke.... Wife had policy for income coverage, due to illness etc, after it was discovered she had cancer, SF did pay out on the policy, however the agent's team thought it was fantastic that SF paid out on this policy, and was it not great. (Apparently they thought it was good to have some one get Cancer, when I asked what they meant by that they didn't have much to say). After 15 + years I am taking my little book of business else where. "

"I live in Arkansas and my roof was damaged in the two storms in April/May. Three of my neightbors had their roofs damaged and 2 of them were compensated by their insurance company. Another one agreed to pay only 1/2 so he said forget it and dropped his insurance company. I had water stain on my dining wall so I asked a roofer to come out and gave me an estimate. He came out and immediately said my roof suffered hail damages and he showed me the spots where they were hit. Next day I called the claim office a week later they sent out the adjuster who's in Tulsa. The adjuster said to come on Thursday and he showed up on Wednesday so I didn't even see him. He concluded that my roof suffered from heat blistering instead of hail damages. He came out 2nd time to meet with my roofer and still concluded it's heat blistering and so they refused to repair my roof. I called another roofer to get 2nd opinion and he said the same thing as the first roofer, hail damages. The 2nd roofer looked at the whole roof whereas the first one only looked at the spot where the water stain is. I called the claims office and they said it's still denied because they don't believe it's hail damage. I said I can provide them pictures to prove it and they said they wouldn't evaluate my claim since they already made up their mind. The adjuster who came out didn't even look at the water stain in my dinning room. My agent called and said SF will setup a conference call so the adjuster, roofer, and I could talk. Well the adjuster called a few days later and said "Sorry, we can't do conference call. It's a waste of his time since they don't believe it's hail damage." I called my agent and he told me he would talk to different adjuster but after couple times he basically told me the same thing the 1st adjuster said. If they can't even send out an adjuster to meet or even attempt to conference with the roofer and me I have to say that's the worse kind of service I've seen. They told me to get another opinion from a structural engineer but I have to pay the fee. I said screw you, I am not going to waste my money to hire a structural engineer when they can just send out their adjuster to meet with the roofer. They said they don't trust the roofers I told them well I don't trust your own adjuster anyway. The adjuster I talked on the phone with didn't want to anything. I asked him to send/email the pictures of the roof he took. At first he denied to do that saying his system won't allow him to do that. Fifteen minutes before that I asked him if I could send him pictures showing hail damage to his email adress and he said that's fine but now he said he couldn't send those pictures he took to me. Then I asked to fax them to me, he said he didn't have color fax machine. I said then fax me the black/white. Finally he did. The pictures he took only showed the area around the water stain/leak. He didn't take picture at other places on the roof. I am looking for another company. State Farm will do anything to get out of paying claim. This is my first claim ever and I already experienced horrible service. I can hardly image what the next one will be like."

"My Insurance Agent does take calls if she is in the office. If not, she has hired an assistant that answers policy questions correctly and returns calls within one business day. The only issue I had was receiving a few advertisements about banking and investing with State Farm. I received the mailings for about one year the first year I was a policy holder. Now I do not get the junk mail. A plus I'll share is that about 18 years ago, I was involved in a bad auto accident that turned out to be my fault. State Farm hired and attorney for me and defended me in court. The attorney was excellent. I was sued and then the charges were dropped. Eight months later State Farm would not renew my policy. I did not try to renew my State Farm policy for about 8 years. When I decided to try to get a State Farm policy, they took me back at the best price I could find for the coverage I have. To me, State Farm forgave my past mistake and now provides great service. I hope this advice helps, especially anyone who may have had an experience like mine in the past. "

He put his hand on hood of my car and rolled away w/o even being touched other than his hand on my hood. Long story short...he went to hospital and put in claim against my insurance co. and he knew exactly how much to put down....just enough to get S F to pay and not do an investigation. I believe they paid him $4,000.00. I wasn't even sighted for a hit and run but yet S F still paid him. My rates did not go up. They really are the best ins co out there and would recommend them to anyone. Just read your contract and if in doubt have someone knowledgable explain it to you. I have and know exactly what i'm paying for. Don't complain unless you have a legitimate gripe. It doesn't do others any good if you make a false report because you don't understand your policy. "

"We've had home owner's insurance with State Farm for over 35 years and never had a claim. Last summer, our house got struck by lighening leaving 4 large holes in one section of our roof. We asked State Farm to send an adjustor out and they refused to do so 3 times. Instead they wanted us to get 3 estimates to fix the roof then pick a contractor to do the work. After getting the first estimate, they gave that contractor the OK to repair the roof though that contractor is not the one we wanted to do the work. Because the roof was 18 years old, and the replacement shingles could not be matched to the existing roof, we opted to have the holes repaired and the entire roof reshingled. We have replacement coverage however State Farm refused to even consider that the shingles would not match and nit-picked that the contractor was installing $100 of sheeting membrane for the affected valley as the lightening damaged the existing metal flashing in the valley. Their reason was that the membrane wasn't on the roof to begin with totally ignoring the fact that the roofing contractors don't use metal flashing anymore and, even if they did, that flashing had to be replaced. Furthermore we were told by the adjustor's manager that we were 'out of line' in getting our roof repaired without State Farm's approval and had they known the extent of the damage, they would have send an adjustor out. Once again, ignoring the fact that we asked 3 times for an adjustor to come out. It reached a point that we felt that we were being harrassed by State Farm. To say that the agent and the adjustor's manager were rude is an understatement. We do not know if we will stay with State Farm. We have no sense of security now that we know how they handle claims. They should change their slogan: Like a good swindler, State Farm is there."

"I am reluctant to reccomend State Farm upon hearing that after switching my auto policies from The Hartford to State Farm, after ten years with The Hartford, that it appears that after the current Home Owners / Hurricane & wind poiicy expires in '08, the chances are pretty good that we will not be renewed and will have to seek Insurance with the State funded Insurance Co."

"When I had a tiny fender bender I went to a top notch collision company. For this claim he said not to even file with my insurance. He also told me state farm was the best and would permit the new parts to be put on my new car unlike discount insurance which requires USED parts for your new car. Some discount insurers do not NEGOTIATE discounts for repair up front they simply pay less. With some discount insurers you are getting nothing but someone that pays less? So the next fender bender I took to the same top notch collision company. They have a million dollar paint shop. Since they are pre-certified with State Farm I merely paid my deductible. They pre-matched my bumper color, and pre-ordered the part, so all I needed to do was leave the Cadillac during one day for a few hours. I did not have to get estimates or any of that. My car was repaired in a couple of hours, not days or weeks. And once a year I can go to the local office and get a nice ATLAS. Just ask. "

"I have had State Farm for 15 years. When my teenage children started driving, we had several claims to make within a two to three year period. I was afraid State Farm would not renew our policy, but they did. Our agent said it was typical for teenagers to have several accidents. Five years ago our neighborhood had hail damage. State Farm was readily available to replace our roof without hassle. Six months ago we had a leak in our bathroom causing home damages of over $10,000. Working with State Farm was painless. They worked with me, gave me advise when I asked for it, answered my calls promtly, and paid my bills in a timely manner. Three months ago, I had hail damage to my car, again, State Farm was there to assist without problems. State Farm charges more money than some other insurance companies but it is well worth it to me. I would recomend them to anyone. "

If you are a bad driver or expect good coverage for nothing go elsewhere. If you are a good driver and are willing to pay for good service and helpful agents, use State Farm."

Odd that they did consider the wood on our deck to be damaged by hail and paid to have it re-finished. "

"Get a second appraisal/opinion on repairs after an accident. I recently had a very bad accident. Everyone who saw photos of my vehicle after the accident automatically said the vehicle was a total loss. The day of the accident my vehicle was towed to a "certified" State Farm repair shop. They were adamant that the vehilce was not a total loss. After 5 days of disputing this, State Farm stopped paying for my replacement rental vehicle. I then had the vehicle picked up by another "certified" State Farm repair shop. This shop found the car to be a total loss."

"State Farm has a Very poor claims department with very unethical tactics on a total loss of auto. Agent took Three days to call me after claim was placed, only after I left a message. Then the agent could not help with the difficulties of the claim process and the unethical total loss unit in Colorado. I have been paying Premiums to State farm for 22 years with out any claims. If you do the math that is about 40,000 Dollars over time, with Higher Premiums when younger to lower premiums as time went on. They will be losing at least 8 Auto policies and Four Home Policies. "

"I had State Farm for my Auto Insurance before and they were OK, but I filed a Hail damage claim on my house and they refused to pay. Every other house on my street that did not have State Farm got new roofs from Insurance settlements, so I'm left to believe that the Hail didn't damage my house just all my neighbors? At this point I will probably have to pursue legal action, which will take time and money. All insurance companies are not the same and State Farm is down at the bottom. "

"We havde had homeowners insurance, auto, umbrella, boat and second home insurance with State Farm for 30 years. With no homeowners claims and in all that time. State Farm has cancelled our homeowners policy because we are within 2500 feet of a body of water. Not even taking into consideration that we have paid homeowners for 30 years - no claims during hurricanes, Northeast storms because we are very high up. In addition we are not looking for flood. But we are now faced with looking for homeowners insurance. Who would figure that they would do this to long time customers but loyalty doesn't matter."

In fairness, my agent was very helpful, and in the end, we were satisified. I agree about monthly statements. I can never figure out why they go up by odd amounts. But they do keep going up, and the explanation, if there is any, is vague. After moving out of state, we are unhappy with our new agent. We are current insurance shopping and after over 20 years will likely leave State Farm. "

The mortgage company did not go according to the account number but the name. Now I am having trouble with my agent, the State Farm home office trying to get this mess straight. When I called the home office, I was told that my policy number was correct, but the number that was billed belonged to some one else. This should not happen with an insurance company. It is taking a while to get this mess straight. In the mean time, my home owners policy was cancelled due to non payment. Also, cost is quite a bit higher than other insurance companies with same AA Best rating (if you go by that)."

"Claims people are rude and always claim that they have taken a class in subject that makes them think they are an expert. The class I believe they take is how to not pay a claim. Must verify everything they say with an independent expert or a little research to make sure you are getting your claim handled properly. It only takes about 15 minutes of homework to become more knowledgable than any of their adjusters."

The water came in, ran down the inside of the garage wall to the sill, then ran along the sill and caused warping and discoloration to my hardwood dining room floor. Since the water ran down through the garage, there was no evidence of the issue from the inside of the house. One day I looked behind a chest freezer in the corner of the garage and found the damage and was able to figure out what was happening. Needless to say, after two adjusters looked at the situation, they came back with a $1,500 offer above my deductible...leaving me about $5,000+ in the hole to have it properly fixed.
