"we had Amica for our Auto and home for 15-16 years. It was the company the previous owners had and our first home. Knowing nothing about insurance, we decided to stay with their company. After a straight wind storm with hail came through and damaged our roof. Our neighbors, 2 on one side and 3 on the other side, all had their damaged roofs replaced. The Amica adjuster came out and confirmed the hail damage but stated they wouldn't cover it because the shingles had been recalled. Something we knew nothing about and wouldn't have any way to know either. We escalated the claim and another supervisor came out and again said they still wouldn't cover the roof regardless if we had no way to know about the recall. Our neighbor had his roof done at the same time ours was done initially with the same shingles and his insurance co was replacing his roof. When I mentioned this to the adjuster I was told maybe I should have had THEIR insurance company I never filed a claim or had a late payment or anything with Amica until this event. I canceled my insurance with them immediately and would NEVER go back or recommend them to anyone."

"Watch our for bait and switch on Homeowner's policy. We had a prior insurance company that used a company named Mueller to asses the cost to rebuild our home. They came back at 443K. Amica used the same company and because they applied a formula to Meuller's estimate they tried to force us to insure the home for 650K. When we complained, a manager took it down to 560K and when we wanted to insure it for 473K well above the Mueller estimate they refused to continue the inflation protection endorsement. They wanted an additional 385 to insure the home at their figures. I've reported them to the NH Department of Insurance - Beware of this company"

"Amica has insured my personal automobiles since 2007, my home since 2012, my three rental properties since 2010, and my personal umbrella since 2011, and will continue to do so. In March 2014, I was involved in an automobile accident and seriously injured. In September 2014, I spoke with the supervising adjuster who was assigned to handle my possible claim for Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury. In March 2016, I settled my claim for Bodily Injury with AAA for 500,000.00. In June 2016, I spoke with, and wrote, the supervising adjuster, indicating that I was presenting a claim for Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury, and my belief that the value of my injuries, damages, and losses past, present and future sustained as a direct consequence of the March 2014 accident might exceed the amount of my Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage. In March 2017, I wrote to the supervising adjuster and demanded to settle my claim for Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury for the 1,500,000.00 policy limit. In April 2017, the supervising adjuster called to inform me that Amica was able to accept my Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury policy limits demand. I would like to thank Amica for its Mission Statement, always putting me first in this claim, and supervising adjuster for her exceptional customer service and professionalism at all times."

"After a bad experience with a major insurance company that spends huge amounts on TV ads, I got a quote from Amica. I saved on premiums, the policy was 12 months rather than six, and at the end of the policy I get a dividend check since it is a mutual company. A few months after I signed up I collided with a wayward deer. The adjuster came to my work to check the damage and the claims process was complete within a week. I added two teens to my policy - one of whom totaled my car in a no fault accident. Once again, the claim was resolved in a few days Even with the accidents, premiums have gone down annually as the teens became older and stayed accident free. Amica is a great company"

"Been with them 30 years. Only two smaller claims on autos, a hail damage roof replacement on homeowners. In all cases, received prompt, courteous service, they took care of everything, and paid claims in full. One of the claims made against our auto policy was by another driver who was at fault. They straightened him out and made sure his insurance paid us."

"I was called 10 times being chased down because they wanted to talk to me. I wrote back and emailed asking if there was a problem. Then I said more than once please send me a letter. 34No we just want to check in, will have customer service reach out to you again34. Well 2-3 months later- today I answer that call. I had a Minor- fender bender 6 months ago. This person dogged- me to say34You need to watch your points because in the future because Amica won39t insure you.Okay you have to harass good customers Bye."

"Their adjuster had a bathroom vanity torn out and cut through a wall to find a leak which showed up in the floor. Replacing the vanity was a major problem, and had to paint the entire room due to cutting a hole in the wall. They found nothing. I call a leak detector company and the wax ring the toilet sits on split. A $3.00 item. I paid my $1000.00 deductible and they said they paid $1500.00. My premium went up for 5 years. My argument that their adjuster needs to be adjusted got me nowhere. They insisted that because they paid out money, my rates went up. Still hold how I was treated against them, but have stayed with them. Just finished looking through a long list of insurance company ratings and they are the best, with one exception, which I am going to check out."

"As a middle aged couple,we have NEVER had an auto nor home insurance claim. No tickets, violations, both retired drive less than 5,000 per year, pay entire premium in advance, etc.>We also own our cars and home, with no loans and mortgages.>Sounds great, huh?>For AMICA to agree to insure us, they insisted on doing an internal inspection of our home, because it was an "old home" 1964 and they had to check how we "kept things.">Obviously, this is not appropriate, not has it ever happened to us, or anyone else we know..even those with AMICA living in homes well over 100 years old>SO outrageous...they just lost GREAT customers Don't make our mistake. "After having our home auto and umbrella policies with Amica just over a year the company decided there was "too much activity" on our ranch we have horses. Amica no longer wanted to cover us even though we had paid our policies up ahead of time. So we canceled all policies and went with a company that has been in business working with farm and ranches that have horses for MANY years. Amica sent us a refund check for the amount we paid ahead on our policies. As time went by we found out that we still owed 16.60 to Amica I don't know why they didn't deduct that amount from our refund check but oh well. I sent a check for that amount but they have no record of it. On the same day that we received the bill for 16.60 Amica sent us to collections for that amount. I sent a SECOND check to Amica today this time by certified mail. ALSO when we switched to our new insurance company the agent went over our old policies through Amica and discovered that Amica had not covered everything that was supposed to be covered. If you sign on with Amica be certain to go over everything in your policy with a fine tooth comb In our policy they missed little things such as stating we did not have smoke detectors when in fact we have six and they completely neglected to include our shop a big 70' by 100' steel building. Please be careful if you go through Amica."

"I have had Amica auto insurance for 15 years. Always pay premiums in full up front and have never filed a claim. Several years back I got a speeding ticket. I was speeding to avoid a serious accident because of another driver's actions. I pleaded "guilty with explanation' and the judge gave me a minimum fine. Amica however didn't want to know about my explanation. They merely charged me an additional 160 more than my court fineeach year for three years on my policy. That was the legal limit they could charge or I'm sure it would have been more. My annual policy cost has increased every year since I began with them the last three years more than 15% per annum. I don't trust them in the least but did some exploring for cheaper rates and came to believe that most insurance companies are in cahoots. Is a 15 reduction worth the hassle? The devil you know...."

"Amica uses bait and switch tactics. They quote your policy have you switch to their company then "discover" additional reasons to drastically increase your rate. I had read this from other reviewers and thought they must have had extenuating circumstances. But I went with Amica because the "friendly customer service" and the company did exactly what I feared they would. Another disappointment with Amica is the "friendly customer service". Once you sign with this company you will spend days trying to get someone back on the phone with you. That's a huge indication of how they would handle any claims you would file."

"We've had Amica for 5 years with auto home RV and an umbrella policy. I've paid them over 13000 to date and I have cost them nothing. No claims so far. Basically they have gotten 16000 from me totally for free. Each year they send us a renewal for home insurance that is considerably higher than the previous year with various numbers adjusted so that the increased premium is not easily compared to the previous year for the same coverage. Our property miraculously increases in value by 20 or 30 percent every year according to their "calculations". They also keep jacking our premium up irrespective of property value. They just quoted me a jacked up premium at 20% higher this year for the same coverage as last year. They get nervous and sound like they have something to hide when I talk to them and they refuse to be reasonable. They apparently don't like repeat business from good customers who never file claims. I am dumping them. "

"The company was great until we filed our second claim due to Hurricane Sandy. The first was Hurricane Irene. My husband and I are going through a divorce and Amica used that ammunition to put us through numerous unnecessary hoops. We had an adjuster an engineer and examinations under oath all with a denial because my husband did not tell the truth as I was getting the house and he didn't want me to enjoy it. I feel they knew this and put us through this stressful situation. They did not pay the second claim even though their engineer said the damage was from the hurricane."

"Recent hail storm several roof replacements in a large subdivision. Not ours...AMICA adjustor said no recent damage only previous damage. Even though covered with AMICA for 10 years no claim was paid. Same company fought us on an auto claim as well had to hire attorney to fight for fair treatment."

"I was extremely happy with Amica until I got a rate increase based on my credit rating. First of all they draw directly out of my bank account so how does that warrant an increase? We have never missed an installment so why the increase. You would think after 3 years I would be considered a good customer. So keep in mind your credit rating when it comes to rates. We all know after the big downturn in the economy most credit scores decreased substantially."

"Prompt and courteous customer service. Resolved a car liability claim we had very quickly. What I do not like is their opaque pricing strategies it is hard to figure out how much you pay for what parts of your policy and the persistent rate increases on the homeowner's insurance. Turns out that they overvalued the house by about 20% and it kept on going up every year. I had to review the house value over the phone to get the premiums back to a reasonable level. I found that strategy of increasing home value a bit underhanded."

"I have been an Amica customer for 40 years car and auto. It has been a point of pride that I have been with company for so long both my marriages combined are 38 years. So when we had 38" of snow this winter my huband noticed that my garage roof was sagging in the middle. So with the utmost confidence I called Amica. An adjuster was sent out he filed his report. All a sudden Amica is sending an engineer to check the garage. I was happy at first thinking that the engineer would know everything wrong with my garage. My husband's first words were "they are going to screw us". When I questioned the claim handler his exact words were "just because you have been a customer for 40 years and recommended us to other people you think we should just write you a check". I was so upset I started crying. Today the claim handler called and said No we aren't going to pay money on the claim. Why well he said that it was natural settling or wasn't build right wasn't quite sure why it's saggy only that this wasn't covered. Then tells me that the engineer went to the townhall and found a picture of my house from 2001 and after blowing it up really large they can can see a sag in my roof. I had a new roof put on 5 years ago and no one mentioned a sag. You can see that the weight of the snow pushed the wall between the garage doors off the foundation the garage doors can't come all the way down. I can't tell you how upsetting this has been to me. Something's you just depend on and I for 40 years thought that was Amica. Amica is not the same company that I knew. I can't explain how upsetting it is to lose your faith in a company that you have done business with for 40 years."

My son was backing out of a tight space and scratched the car next to them the other persons insurance company gave them a 1685.00 est Amica upped the est to 2010.00 so it would become a major accident on his record every accident over 2000.00 is considered a major accident. Lady I spoke to tried to brush off as not a large increase then realized her Math was off and would have a supervisor contact me to discuss. "I had two homeowners claims this year. The 1st one they were okay but the 2nd one they were terrible and paid very little. In both cases they never sent a claims adjuster to the house. They would not cover any of the landscaping and they applied my 500 deductible to both claims and four months later they just sent me a letter saying that they overpaid me by 200 according to their auditors. On the auto they charged me a late fee when my bank told me the check was processed a week before it was due. Been with them over 10 years and this is how they treat a loyal customer? Are they cash strapped or something because they seem to be anxiously looking for monies?"

"Im not sure what has happened to Amica. Maybe im having bad streak but their premiums seem to keep going up by an amount inversely proportional to their adjusters customer service and claim handling experience. Using their preferred vendors is like watching them write blank checks with no explantion or check on the work necessity. Exceptionally shady and not good for your policy premium. What they pay will pay back in premiums. Do not do it and if you do make sure you stipulate no work to be done unless authorized. Theyd rather throw money at a problem than deal with it in a logical manner.I have been with them for 25 years. In the past 3 years my rates have gone through the roof and what was special about the company as far as being a premium service is gone."

"I have file no claims for auto or home. I have a stellar credit rating. I have one vehicle that only I drive. I have no tickets and no accidents. Despite this last year they raised my auto insurance over 200.00. So I cut coverage to get in near what I was paying before. Now they want to up my premium almost 300.00 for auto insurance. I havent gotten my renewal for my home yet but I expect that will also go up because that happened last year. It seems like bait and switch. They gave me a good rate the first year and then jacked up the price following that. "

"My premium has escalated every year often dramatically ostensibly based on the rising cost of rebuilding in my area but it turns out that their estimated cost was not based on sound data. I discovered this only when I obtained a much lower estimate from a competitor which triggered Amica to send an inspector and recalculate their estimate. The lesson learned is you need to question their estimated cost of rebuilding frequently at least every 5 years and shop around among competitors. Loyalty does not pay."

"Insured with Amica since 12/04 (7 Years)for Home, Auto & Umbrella. First claim this year for crack in windshield glass. Auto renewal policy now includes charge for glass replacement which used to be included without charge. And, Homeowners (no claims ever) increased 32%($707). Notwithstanding this Recession and no inflation (in building materials or labor, in fact deflation), they have increased the replacement value of my home over 28% in 6 years. I think all the insurance companies play the same game. One needs to switch companies every couple of years to get the teaser rate."

"When we applied for an Amica auto insurance policy, we provide all the requested driver and vehicle information to the agent and were assured of a start date for our coverage. We spent several hours locating, scanning and E-mail all the additional information that the agent asked for so that we could qualify for all available discounts. We were repeatedly assured by the agent that there were no additional hurdles to obtaining a policy and that coverage for our family would start at the first of the month. We made plans accordingly. A couple of days later, we received a terse E-mail stating that our application had been denied by underwriting because one of our kids had received 3 speeding tickets over a 3 year period. We had informed Amica of these tickets when we applied for the policy. No other explanation was provided and no apology was forthcoming. We currently have coverage through another insurance company that seems to have a clue about customer service."

Even during my retirment I stayed with the company despite how difficult it was to have such an expensive policy. I never filed a claim but thought I would be treated fairly if such an need arrived. It did -- very poor treatment. They covered nothing, took their time in returning my calls and were very slow in following-up the verbal denial in writing. All these years I thought I had a relationship that involved me "insuring" their support during a crisis -- all they thought of me was a policy -- quick claim denial."

"We had Amica insurance. Never again. We were driving on I-290 and were hit by a tire that fell off a large tractor-trailer truck. Essentially, Amica blamed my husband for the accident. He has a meticulous driving record, and he certainly was not charged in the accident by the police. The tire came rolling and bouncing down the highway. He maneuvered incredibly well, but we were hit in the front of our vehicle. We ended up having to pay much more for car repair than we should have. We advise everyone against doing business with Amica. Their policies are unfair to the consumer."

I have five cars costing over $7K/yr. Although I had a clean record for about 20 years the prior three years there were 3 minor fender benders (Amica paid no more than $1K out of their pocket) and 3 moving violations. This seems like a lot but two were in a parking lot and one was low speed impact in rotary. Right after they dropped my coverage my wife was in an accident. Because of the low coverage it cost me $8.5 K out of pocket. AFter 23 years of paying thousands of dollars and a very clean record for the majority of the time they dropped my coverage and left me vulnerable. I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!"

That amount would have raised my rate $500 a year. I brow beat my agent into calling my witnesses and lowering the pay out to some $300, which wouldn't raise my rate. Still it was a fraudulent claim. After I made 20% payment, they reinstated, told me they would take care of RMV so my plates were not revoked. Came home from vacation last night to find a letter from the RMV notifying me that my plates would be canceled effective today. Called Amica immediately - was told not to worry - I could drive the car. So I drove the car to work - only to recieve a call from Amica today telling me the plates HAD been revoked. I have spent the whole day on the phone with them trying to resolve this. They keep telling me I am all set, yet I have yet to recieve written confirmation. I will NEVER renew a policy with them. (None of this even touches on the fact that I don't think there website has been updated since 1991. They continue to move away from local offices that know their customers to customer service centers that are based on life referrals and bugging you to buy and spend more and more. If you get a Representative that knows what they are doing, they still have to send it to whatever state you live in to fix anything. I think that knowing your customer is much more productive for the customer then a company wanting to make so much money that knowing the customer does not matter any more. "

Amica paid a claim of 5500. More than 1/2 was for a car rental. we questioned them and they had no answers for us re: this hight rental car fee they paid out. Then months later she claimed injury. at the time of the accident she jumped out of the car and yelled at my husband. We learned that she never went to a doctor for nearly 6 months and she was in a 2nd accident 2 wks after my husbands unfortunate incident with her. Amica paid out an extraordinary amount on this claim as well. When asked why they said there was little evidence for paying the claim but it was a nuisance and they preferred to pay it. AS GOOD CUSTOMERS WE FELT LET DOWN. They paid on illegitimate claims to make there jobs easier and so they could raise our rates. We thought they would be our advocate they were not. "

The auto claim has been like pulling teeth to get the adjuster to communicate clearly and to approve repairs that will leave my vehicle in similar condition to what it was before the wreck. The staff at Amica did not explain how much different ***and worse*** the auto claims process would be vs. a home claim. I asked for a supervisor and was told there were none available. I have reconciled myself to Amica leaving me with a poorly repaired vehicle that I will have to sell as soon as I can get it to a different mechanic who can do additional repairs to make it driveable and sellable. I'll try USAA or someone else. I have loved Amica for years but for years I haven't filed an auto claim. This sucked."

"My wife and I have had auto insurance with AMICA for over 15 years, hence, tons of money paid. When cars were new and had collision insurance AMICA paid, however for minor accidents where the car is not totaled($6,000 or less)AMICA pays the bill but then surcharges you an exorbitant amount for a long time. They basically recoup every penny they paid you through surcharges so you are basically paying for the damage yourself. What is the point of carrying auto insurance if you basically pay the bill yourself anyway?!!!"

We have NEVER filed a claim..NEVER!! Last year my policy went up 33.00 a yr. I accepted that. I wrote it off to inflation. This year it went up 234.00 that's unacceptable!!"

"Well I have been with this company for a long time - over 10 years. I had 2 car accidents in that time - one I was not at fault and AMICA did very little to get me the value of my car that was totaled. The second time I got repairs to my vehicle. My main dissatisfaction comes when I tried to bundle my car and home insurance. I spent 3 weeks! trying to get AMICA to confirm and in the end they said they dont insure duplexes - now I am screwed with my closing date - definately going to drop my car insurance by them and make sure everyone knows they are slow and don't really care about their customers"

"Amica has a wonderful rating mainly because they only sell to 'O" risk drivers meaning that if you have moving violations on your driving record they will not risk taking you on as a customers. This is smart business however it really makes the truth on their rating suspect. For the perfect driver...Amica is your company...however know that they will drop you the second you become a normal driver. "

"As a LONG_TIME customer of Amica, I have seen the best and more recently the worst of them. Overall, we have had great customer service and on the few rare occasions when we had a claim, they were more than fair and very prompt in settling the claim. Recently, their desire to grow has led to more impersonal service and big increases in rates even though we have had no claims in over 15 years. I NEVER would have thought of shopping our coverage until this year when my exchange of letters with senior management confirmed (for me) they are no longer the company I have loved for over 30 years. They state they have to get bigger to be competitive but in the process are at high risk of destroying what made them great - careful underwriting and great client service. I will be very sad to leave but I am resigned to the fact that they are well on the way to becoming just another big insurance company. "

"Cheap isnt always the best. I switched to amica because of their "good" rates and they were highly reccomended. I was hit by an under insured motorist in early july! It was well over a month before my car was repaired, which is fine, considering the damage. But when amica agrees to send payment within 24 hours of completion and doesn't.. then who's the liar? (read the pamplet it clearly states it) When you call the claims office to find out whats going on, you are sent in the black hole of voice mail. i left several messeges for the person i was to be speaking with and never once recieved a phone call back. finally talked with some random person who couldnt tell me anything because that's not their department... i had been given the run around for 5 weeks and nothing had been settled yet.--- and my car was REPAIRED!!! If Customer satisfaction is what got them the highest ranking with J D Powers, what a croc. "

When they did they were way over what they originally quoted to me. I will see these people in court. They cannot be trusted as a Company. Their ethic is take all we can get without a word!"

"We are the subject of an open claim, which at present is entering it's seventh month. Mostly, the local office is not helpful in solving problems and offering information and assistance. It's riddled with stupidity and corruption too. 1. The Branch Manager, serving as our Adjustor, directly ordered a Vendor to sand a pre-finished floor that resulted in it's receiving a seven inch by five inch gash down to the plywood. The Vendor had 25 years of experience, and KNEW that our floor would be damaged...his defense was that he was "ordered to" sand the floor to repair it. This information was revealed by a local office employee, IN FRONT OF WITNESSES ! 2. The first adjustor or record was a trainee, who in the course of their work, falsified documentary photographic evidence of our initial claim. This same adjustor had NO evidence of our Claim, at all, as a part of our claim file ! 3. The same branch manager, above, admitted to me that a Vendor did work on his mother's home. Alone this is innocent, but when the same Vendor destroyed our kitchen floor, it takes on sinister least to me, when the office staff is hypnotized by the Vendor, into taking their side in the resulting dispute. 4. During a time when we lost use of our kitchen and basement where our clothing washer/dryer was, the adjustor didnt care to tell us that we were eligible for Loss of Use coverage, to cover meals and cleaning costs. We had to go to the home office to find that out, and the home office emailed the adjustor to tell us. YES, overall they have a good policy but our local office is a NIGHTMARE, full of, seemingly, malicious non-helpful people. JD Powers would Croak if they heard the details of our "experience". "

We have been hit while parked, no moving accidents, no one hurt. I can only imagine what a claim for personal injury would be like with Amica. "

"I started the policy in 2000. At that time, I was under the age of 25 and my premiums were very high despite my excellent driving record. Amica gave me the lowest price for my age and so they earned my business. Nearly ten years later, I am still with them. I've had one claim due to vandalism while visiting friends out of town. It was handled exceptionally quickly and repairs were done by the best, not the cheapest. Amica is tops in my book! I only wish they offered health insurance..."

"We had hail damage to our roof (but no leaks) a few years ago. We didn't notice the damage, but our carpenter did several months after the event. We notified AMICA, they sent out a claims agent right away, and promptly sent us a check to cover the repair. The check amount was actually more than the repair cost, but when I contacted AMICA to inform them of this, I was told that it didn't matter, and we pocketed the difference. A great company. I've compared other policies, and AMICA has consistently provided us a very good rate. When I've received lower quotes, they've been from companies with poor customer satisfaction, according to this site."

"Upon selling me a policy, my sales rep moved away and nobody contacted me to let me know. I only found out six months later when I called the 800 number with a policy question. Also, one month the check for my payment was not received. Nobody called me; Amica simply cancelled all my policies and sent me ONE letter in the mail to let me know (I was reinstated, but drove without insurance for several weeks). Amica's coverage for personal property, such as jewelry, is very low ($1500, and this is their "premium" policy). Prepare to pay through the nose to have everything you own scheduled separately...what is the point of this insurance, since their exclusions include so many items average people are likely to own (cameras, artwork, jewelry)?"

"I recently suffered two spinal injuries in an auto accident where I needed to have two separate spinal surgeries with titanium plates implanted. I have nerve damage in my left leg leaving me permanently disabled. I put an under-insured claim in with Amica, my own insurance company. They hired a "high-priced" insurance attorney because I had a million dollar insurance coverage. Due to my large insurance coverage, my own insurance company, Amica, fought me tooth and nail until they finally won the claim. I ended up only receiving 5% of my total coverage for all of my pain, suffering, surgeries, and permanent disabilities. They also refused to pay my lost wages which were included in my insurance claim. I have been paying my premiums all along but when it comes to collecting from Amica, they will fight it until their own client loses his suit. I am very dissatisfied with Amica as they did not even stand by their own client trying to settle the case fairly. If I could do things over again, I would NEVER have chosen Amica as MY insurance company. They collected and cashed all of my premium checks but refused to offer me any compensation when it came to settling my legitimate claim. I hope that everyone who reads this will think twice before signing up with Amica. I only wish that someone else warned me that I am not in "good hands with Amica." "

I was told the laws had changed in MA and even though my claim was several years ago, they can and did charge me retroactively, even though they told me they wouldn't at the time of the claim (I asked specifically about this). The surcharge will cost me thousands of $ more than the actual claim paid out."
