Company History: Austin Mutual was founded in Minnesota in 1896 under the name State Farmers Mutual Hail Association of Minnesota. Only in 1930 was the name changed to Austin Mutual Insurance Company. In 1974 the Austin Mutual Windstorm Insurance Company merged into the Austin Mutual Insurance Company; in 1999 the Waseca Mutual Insurance Company merged into the Austin Mutual Insurance Group. In 2012 the Austin Mutual Insurance Company became an affiliate of The Main Street America Group. Now the company serves over 95,000 policyholders. It has been listed on Ward's top 50 property/casualty insurance companies in the US list for three years straight. This streak has placed the company in the top 2 percent of the best-performing property and casualty carriers.
