"I have been with California Casualty for many years, and until needing to utilize the insurance this past year, it was great. My experience has been frustrating, at best. Renter's Insurance After loosing 90% of my belongings in a Uhaul Theft, it took over 6 months for my claim to be paid, and for that, I ended up having to do the leg-work. It wasn't until I filed a complaint with costumer service that my adjuster responded and my claim was completed. I literally had to take several days off work to deal with the aspects of the claim this adjuster was not doing. In fact, I was told on multiple occasions that the issue was LAPD. After multiple days of tracking down the missing police reports, and a called in favor, the records showed that California Casualty had not submitted a request for the Police Report at all. After weeks of further delay, the request had still not been received. On top of the run-around received when I did actually reach my adjuster, there were several times in which I would call daily, multiple times a day, and not receive a response for weeks. I am grateful for the lesson in maintaining Renter's Insurance. HOWEVER, the mishandling of the claim, was mind-blowing. I was close to getting a lawyer, and threatened such in my costumer service complaint, which got the claim resolved. The amount of time taken off work to handle the claim, and the outrageous amount of finance fees paid on credit cards while awaiting the payment seriously makes me wonder if I ought to have gotten a lawyer involved. Lesson Have Renter's Insurance with a reputable company, rather than a company known for prolonged wait times and most certainly the run-around game. My experience with CalCas was nearly as traumatic as the theft itself, and the delays left me tens of thousands of dollars in debt waiting for the payment on the claim that was covered. There is a reason I had an insurance policy of 50,000 in case of such an emergency, such as fire, massive theft, etc. What ought to have been a relief in such an event was a massive headache for which I am still paying down the excess interest-related debt from the massive delay."

"On my first year renewal, they tried raising my premium by 2,400. They did several things to try and justify the increase such as changing the number of miles I drive without my knowledge, they added a moving violation to my wife's record that did not exist. The phone rep I spoke to said she was the highest person I could speak to about these out and out fabrications. Extremely untrustworthy company. We will be letting the union rep know about this and encourage them to stop referring members"

"They truly are a TERRIBLE terrible company You do get nice customer service people sometimes but as far as actual customer service and fallow through go, the worst We switched to them because they offered special rates to RN's and for teen drivers but then after they signed us up and took our money for auto and renters they found issues that they kept trying to get ME to get all this info on for them when it was actually there job to verify and do... Back and forth for 1st 3 weeks and then they finally said do it or we can't promise your coverage we offered you blah blah blah.... I finally called them out on it and told them I would be changing companies because I was over it and I just wanted the policy I paid them for to cancel at end of the paid for month.... Finally they called back saying auto is good till 31st but under writing decided to cancel your renters effective TODAY even though I paid for it in advance Now I'll have a 4 day laps.... DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE"

"This is the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. I have had a multi policy with them auto, motorcycle, home.>>I began having issues with them in January 2015, when I began having structural issues with my foundation. I put a claim in with the company, and they sent out adjusters and inspectors but ultimately denied my claim. I ended up having a friend who is fully licensed and bonded due to the necessary repairs for me at a cost of $3000. Normal cost for this type of repair is about $8000.>>Today, I received a letter with a "Notice of Non-Renewal". The insurance company was not renewing my home owner's insurance because they "allegedly" sent a letter to me in May of 2015 asking for proof of repairs. I never received a letter from them, nor did they bother to notify me of this during the many times that I called them over other issues I was having. Not to mention, its ridiculous that they would deny my claim and then demand proof that I paid out of pocket to fix it.>>The customer service person was rude to me on the phone, as they usually are, when you're not on hold for over a half hour. If you select the call me back feature, no one calls you back.>>I have also been trying to add on a policy on my wife's engagement and wedding ring. I have sent them copies of the jewelry appraisal reports three times via fax, and they claim to have never received them.>>Other issues that I have had with this company include misspelled names on the policy, the wrong vehicles insured on the policy how is this possible?>>After my recent phone conversation with them, I am done with this company. I will be cancelling all my policies with them and going elsewhere.>>I recommend everyone else to do the same. Due not be duped. For a company that specializes in insurance for civil service people law enforcement, firefighters, teachers, etc, they do an awful job. If I was as bad at my job as these people, I would have been fired long ago. ADIOS"

"I had my car repaired after an accident, The person who came to see my car was very nice, but that's where the good ends. I come to find out that somewhere along the line someone from California Casualty listed my car as salvaged to the DMV. This prevented me from registering my vehicle. Wow how do you make mistakes like that? Then in order to try to fix the problem I had to write a legal style letter dictated by the DMV and then get California Casualty to sign it and spend my work time in Line at the DMV twice for hours to fix something that I did not do "

"Same yourself the money and headache and don't choose California Casualty for your insurance company. I have had them for 5 years and just now had to file a claim with them. I could never get ahold of the person who set up my claim after I intiated one. Their appraiser constantly lied to me and the body shop causing a 3 week delay. No one I talked too from my insurance company would take responsibility for dropping the ball. Plus I was charged additional charges from their delays. California casualty lacks customer service skills and professionalism."

"We were evacuated for a week during the disastrous in Colorado in 2012. California Casualty was amazing. While our home did not burn, we did suffer severe smoke and ash damage. While people we know with other insurance are still in lawsuits over failure to pay a penny, California Casualty paid to have the outside of the house and deck power washed, to have the insulation taken out and replaced, a full cleaning of the heating and cooling ducts, and covered loss of food when the power was cut for five days and items and food we needed to purchase while out of our home. Their claims people, process and payout was quick, painless and very fair. I wonder about some of the examples I a reading from others because I would rate California Casualty with an A."

"I was broadsided by a car who was backing up at a high rate of speed after having rear ended another vehicle . Police reports for both accidents found this party to be at fault. I contacted California Casualty and told them of the accident and gave them the police report numbers. They did nothing to help me on my claim . I had to obtain the police report myself and contact the at fault 's insurance company . Luckily they accepted liability based on the police report because California Casualty said they would have to do a more thorough investigation than the police before they could authorize payment for my vehicle to be repaired and for me to have use of a rental car. It would appear that this company is all too happy to collect premiums and doesn't want to pay for valid claims ."

"Horrible claims process. The adjuster makes decisions without communicating. They tend to use contracting agents and switch contacts on you throughout the process. They are low cost low value and clueless regarding customer service. Steer clear of this incompetent company"

"They have no follow through the tow nd road side assistance that was sold to me as a replacement for AAA road side service stranded my wife with the children along side the highway for more than 2hrs and coast me another 200 dollars out of pocket for another. I've been told that all the paperwork is in to insure a vehicle and later tht day after the vehicle has been driven advised that it's still not insured Becuse they are waiting for paper work. The same paper work that I ws told was in."

"POOR CUSTOER SERVICE. I was treated like a criminal. The agent put me on hold to critique the photos of the damage and than accused me of trying to claim two different incidents. After some thought I guess it benefits the insurance company if they can deduct two separate deductible's at 500 a piece. Was interrogated for over an hour finally hung up the phone. "

"I think it is the exclusity California Casualty offers that appeals to me. Since they only service educators firefighters law enforecement nurses I think my needs are being met with this focus. When I saw the negative feedback on this site I wondered why no one had a possitive experience. I concluded that only the people with a negative experience went here but was happy to see people with experiences closer to my own on the California Casualty Facebook page."

"I was recently in a car accident and totaled my car. I have now been waiting for 3 weeks to even get someone to make an adjustment on the vehicle. I have called about my car over a dozen times and I have only gotten one phone call in return. They never seem to be happy that they are dealing with my situation. I have yet to see what the settlement will be but I they already claimed that my car had 20000 more miles on it than it actually does. Very Frustrating"

"I just moved to Nevada and called CalCas for an auto quote for my wife and me. I am a teacher and should expect "deep discounts" for being an educator. They quoted me 3744 for a policy. I was flabbergasted. I was told that insurance in Nevada is expensive. My wife called Geico and was quoted 800/yr for a more comprehensive policy. I called CalCas back to see if they made an error and they had no idea how Geico could be so low. Deep discounts my rear end. They are ridiculous."

"There is no issue with the dollar amount of the settlement they offer but they are excruciatingly slow in processing. It has been six weeks since my accident and a week since my car repairs were completed and they STILL havent sent a check for the amount they authorized"

"All my claims have been handled well. No stress at all. The most recent claim was for a damaged bumper which was replaced and while I was hanging out in the body shop office the shops claims processor who has a lot of experience told me that California Casualty is much easier to deal with than the other companies."

"I have always found the help I have received on the phone very good. The only issue I have had was the claims adjuster was from another state and he took a bit too long to come out and look at the car. All repairs were covered, it took a little longer than expected."

"This company has improved since first joining them. I was very unsatisfied initially and expressed to them that I would cancel the coverage, but they convinced me otherwise. Since then, the company has improved their customer service and has a more orderly and efficient automated telephone service when making contact. I like the one year policy term as opposing the 6 month term offered by most insurance companies. The E-Z Pay plan helps, as well. "

"Representative gave wrong information concerning policy. I was without insurance and the company read were the representative had stated that I had until Nov. 11 to pay premium. I was so upset because this was information that I did not ask for it was given to me and the next representative along with supervisor would not insure me until the next morning. I have recommended this company to many teachers but when they left me without coverage last night I was very disappointed in the company and their service when it was obvious that the mistake was on their end."

"I have been with California Casualty for almost 13 years, I had to file a claim on my home in 1997 and my car was totalled in Feb 2001. In 1 hour a tow trck was at the scene, and in 2 hours I had a rental car. I was back to work 10 minutes later. An adjuster looked at my car the next day and phoned me at work to tell me it wastotalled. He asked me to get the title and send it to the company, He yold me what the valuee of the car was they sent me half of that amount immediatly so I could place a down payment on a new one when I found one. When they received the title in their office I got a check for the other half, The company was wonderful, and still is. "

"I was with California Casualty for 6 months. I was satisfied with their service UNTIL I changed addresses. I moved just 10 minutes away from my old address, and California Casualty told me my rate would be increased to 40 dollars more monthly. When I spoke with customer service, they were very short with me and very rude. They gave me no legitimate reason why it would need to increase that much. I would never suggest them to anyone after this experience, unless you plan on never changing your policy plan. Go with Progressive instead. "

"If you have an accident with a California Casualty customer, get your self a lawyer. It took me a year to collect on a totaled vehicle. The police and the insured both stated that I was not at fault but Califonia Casualty did everything they could to delay payment. I eventually started legal action against their insured driver and then they finally paid up. My insurance State Farm was no help at all during the whole ordeal."

"After our son rear ended another vehicle, we tried to reach a settlement with the other driver on our own. When the driver tried to charge us nearly 3 times the value of his bumper, we went ahead and filed with Ca Cas. They took the information from us and quickly assumed the claim and settled with the driver for the amount we origianly were going to pay him. No problems what so ever and it did not raise our rates. Have also filed a claim on our home owners policy. Was handled very well, repairs were done and contractors paid in a very timely fashion with minimal interuption to our family and home. When reading reviews, keep in mind, why file a claim if it is someone elses' fault that their insurance should pay for."

"2 years ago I went to get in my car and there was a car hitting my front bumper. So I immediately got out my camera to take pictures since the car was on top of my bummer and did damage to my front bumper. I even got video tape of the car hitting my car along with the license plate number and visual picture of the person. CC told me that I would still have to pay even though i had video, pictures and phoen calls from the person. It was absolutely ridiculous!"

"In June 2008 I was hit in my car by an 18 wheel semi truck. The driver was cited, and I figured that this was an open and shut case in regards to how my claim would be expedited. But this was farthest from what I experienced. The claims adjusters were incredibly rude and not understanding. I was leaving messages and not having them returned. They provided no clarity about the claim, nor a timeline of when it would be resolved. My claim was being passed along from agent to agent to agent. I even had an attorney for my 3rd party claim to help iron things out and was listed as main point of contact, as due to my injuries, I was left with speech impairments, and when I could speak with an agent, I was left with extreme mind fatigue. The agents coordinated poorly with my bank, my GAP, and probably with the other insurance company, which was Hartford. People would tell me they couldn't understand why it took so long for me to get a rental car and for the claim to be processed. People would tell me I should of had the claim resolved within a month and already have another vehicle. However, California Casulty was disorganized, sloppy, and when I told a couple agents that I was dissatisfied and felt I was being treated unfairly by them, both agents, at different times, spoke condensendingly and rudely to me. My accident was on 6/4/08, and the claim was not fully resolved until the end of August--over 2 1/2 months. This was the only comprehensive and collision claim I filed while with the company for over 8 years, and this was how I was treated. Dealing with customer service was always a pleasant experience, but dealing with claims was a nightmare. Due to this, I am actively seeking another auto insurance company. And on top to this, I had in recent months come to find out that I've been paying too much in premiums for mostly basic coverage. My advise to anyone is to not sign up with this company. I hope they go belly up with the rest of the economy--they deserve it."

"I have had to file a claim as my car was literally blown up by St. Louis city due to what I have been told was a combination of gas leak and electrical short circuit underground resulting in and explosion launching a manhole into the underside of my car giving lift-off and totaling it upon landing. I thought this would be easy for my insurance company to take care of and make sure that I am taken care of, WRONG!!!! They are the most condescending, patronizing, manipulative, disrespectful and just plain rude group of people I have ever, EVER, dealt with. To this day, I have not received a check for my totaled vehicle and they still tried to send me a bill and deduct an auto-payment for a policy no longer in effect for a total vehicle. After weeks of inaction I inquired about my claim, when I stated that I didn't agree with the quote they were suggesting, which was in fact less than 1/4 of the value of the vehicle, I was rudely told to pursue prohibitively expensive alternative solutions that would result in a even lower amount for me to use to replace my vehicle. Trust me, from my experience I can tel you; NEVER, EVER, EVER get insurance from them. They are the absolute WORST insurance company ever! You will get exhibitions of highly unprofessional and childish behavior instead of the service you paid for. The can be summarized in one word, TERRIBLE!"

"My husband and I have been with Ca sualty for about 15yrs now. I filled my first claim about 3 years ago when my SUV was broken into outside of my dentist office. The service was fair although we will never again go with their AutoBody Shop recomindation. This year my husband filled a claim for his motocycle. While parked in a shopping center, someone hit/dropped it (?) causing damage on one side. When my husband called in the report he had the rudest person he has ever delt with on the phone taking down the information. They made him feel like he had done something wrong. It took WEEKS of going back and forth with the claims adjuster for the claim to get settled and the bike repaired. My husband and I had auto withdrawn payments set up. When we called to inform them we changed banks we were told that they do a 10 day pre withdrawl and that they could not update the account in time causing an NSF fee on our old bank. I gave them a credit card to charge the now due premium but had to send/mail them the new bank info. Not only did they attempt the auto deduction again with the old bank but they did it two more times AND sent me notices in the mail that unless I paid the premium they would cancel my insurance... my NSF fees went OVER 300.00 and they refuse to be responsible for any of it. The right hand does not know what the left hand is obviously doing!!!! "

" I bought a car in 2008 and got a ticket for going 60 in a 65. I found out they were charging me 8 grand per year to insure my car. I put in a few phone calls to other companies and was quoted at a much lower rate. (2-3 grand per year). Their service over the years have been great. But this time they were rude, and seemingly uninterested in keeping my business by negotiating a better rate. "

"Our family has been with California Casualty for about 15 years. They have consistently given us excellent service. Example: my son bought a 1980 Firebird Transam on eBay for $500 that was mid-restoration--still needed paint top-coat and leather repair. It was hit and totalled 20 minutes later as he drove into the DMV to register the car. We had not even added it to our policy yet. California Casualty told me that it was automatically on binder with default of comprehensive and collision and that they would cover it. They knew what he had paid for the car and offered him a settlement of $800. I pointed out that it was a classic car, not a junker. They then put it through their classic-car valuation process and paid him a $2,700 settlement. Hard to argue with that! They treated my other son very well in a claim he had, being very patient with his less-than-responsive communications, and persisting in getting his car repaired properly over a 12-month period. California Casualty rocks!"

My car has been sitting at the collision repair company for three weeks and all they get is a song and dance but no action from California Casualty. It appears they are ripping me of for the damages done in the accident. There is a police report filed, a simple accident on icy roads, I don't get it. They are extremely unprofessional. Don't get insurance with them!"

"Code of Ethics is a joke very unprofessional - not prompt - not friendly - and NOT HONEST. Vehicle was damaged by one of your clients - 2 weeks ago - and I still haven't been able to get a rental car."

"I have had to file two accident claims with this company. During the first accident, the person I worked with was very unhelpful, blaming, and arrogant. My second accident was dealt with by much friendlier people, however, it has been 31 days since the accident, and I am STILL without a car, STILL without ANY money from them (even though I was told they sent out the check 7 days ago), and STILL have not had my totaled vehicle paid off by them. This is a horrible company. They are very inexpensive but the quality is also at stake. "

"Of course, if nothing ever happens to you, you are happy with your insurance company. Unfortunitely, when something bad happens you expect your insurance company to be knowledgeable and helpful. This company was neither. I have already canceled both my home and auto insurance with them. Good luck if you have this company and have a loss."

"DO Not use this company!!!! My car was broken into the dealer showed them how it was broken into and they said I falsified the claim eventhough I have a police repoort to prove it."

"On more than one occassion, the person on the other end of the phone did not even know I had a policy, even though the premiums were always paide. I even recieved mail stating that they wanted my business back when I never cancelled the policy! Further investigation by CC revealed they had somne major internal communication issues."

"extremely poor communication; makes assumptions about what should be done without consulting customer; jeopardizes customers case with responsible party and refuses to accept responsibilitiy for its errors; collusion with other insurance company(ies) at policy owners expense; rude, defensive and belligerant when confronted"
