Company History: Colonial Life was founded in 1937 by Edwin F. Averyt and J. Clifton Judy under the name "Mutual Accident Company". In 1939 the company changed its name to the "Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company". The company began to introduce worksite marketing of voluntary benefits through payroll deduction in 1955 and in the 2000 they created their online enrollment system. Now the company has almost 80,000 business accounts and over 3 million policyholders nationwide.
